Does this incorporation with DD (that I have zero interest in ever playing) mean that I have to play RTTS the way SDS wants me to play it?
Couldn’t have said it better myself. When I play I don’t want to be Crash Davis banging around the minors for years, I want to be Babe Ruth circa 1927 or Barry Bonds circa 02.

    And yup,

Damn I was just about to order the Jackie edition so I didn't have to wait 3 more days, but thank God I read this. Man I wanted to play with that stadium creator no I'm going to wait until it's patched or goes on sale. Boo SDS Boo.

No they don't. They want non-DD players to touch DD. There's nothing pushing DD players to play franchise, for example. They don't remove core DD functionality in order to make DD players try RTTS. The pushing is all in one direction, the one that makes them money.

Then there's generally a rather gated story mode for your first year before it expands out further to just playing games. If you just head online, that's a separate thing now where you are stuck in Rookieville before being able to go to The City.

I 100 percent understand the desire to immediately go to the money-grab thing, but this to some extent just has to do with trying to tie every mode together so peeps check out every mode. It's what 2K tries to do, it's what Madden tries to do now. They want people touching every part of the game as these these games continue to just get bigger and bigger -- and as much as maybe peeps want to do deny it, they do get more and more complex. Their reasons are more than just money going this route, albeit money obviously is delightful and nice.
They want everyone to have to go to DD because of the card system as they have pretty much messed every mode in this game trying get people hooked on there money making scheme !!! There is no defending them anymore as they have made it abundantly clear with this game that you will play and grind or pay money too speed it up ... If I wanted to pay money for cards I’d buy real ones !!!

Pretty much. In DD, they let you play the mode however you want to play it. You dont have to use your ballplayer in DD if you dont want to, there's nothing actively pushing you anywhere else. Yet in RttS, your ballplayer is tied to DD. Equipment and such, things used to progress your ability, is tied to DD. In MtO, your reward at the end of you win the World Series? DD content. DD was talked about in literally EVERY SINGLE STREAM of theirs.

They try to tie all of their modes to DD, and if they cant, they dont improve on those modes, make them lifeless, and then cut them because nobody is playing them. Like of course nobody is playing those modes, you dont make them worth playing!

These pay-to-win card modes have practically KILLED sports gaming.

I guess this is the end of people bringing up the telemetry data as an excuse for why they do what they do. They've deliberately crippled the most popular mode in an attempt to force people into dd. And as is becoming their mo, they've hidden the fact in pre-release to trick people who pre-ordered.

                Not surprising.
Sport genre has become a card collection game.
I blame gamers as much as the publishers.
It sadly looks like the trend is not slowing down.
People keep paying every year. It will only get worse.

                  Re: Help Navigating New RTTS

I'm both a DD and RTTS player and absolutely hating this. I just unlocked a perk pack. All cards are "increase this, but decrease this"
It's like I'm being penalized for advancing. That makes no sense.

I usually make a catcher. This system has it where my fielding through perks increase, but my hitting decreases.

If I pick slugger it makes my primary position a 1st Basemen. I get perks that increase my power but decrease my contact and reaction.

They absolutely butchered the feces out of RTTS this year.

Okay..roughing out it out. It's get worse.

I'm lost with this mode now. I'm a catcher. Just got the final archetype perk from the missions and it makes my primary position out of the 3 "slick fielding" selections a SS, CF, and 3B with catcher being my second position. When I go to the Tatis Show Icon up in the right hand corner, and bring up my player card, it has me as a SP.

Whatever SDS is trying to implement here is a failure so far. I thought maybe if I got to the archetype perk selection it would make my RRTS better. It's not. You're being penalized for progressing.

At this point it's just anti-consumer practice. Removing the option to have multiple players in RTTS it's one of the biggest offender i've ever seen in a sport videogame. For the love of baseball gods, we're up to the point we can't play offline modes without dealing with gambling and slot machines. It's a disgrace. Even on Reddit, which is really into DD, players can't believe what they've done.

I’m going to make a franchise RTTS and not even bother with this. on PS5 the load times are decent enough where going in and out of the menus aren’t too much of a pain. (Though on PS4 that is definitely a bit of a struggle)

Does anyone have a good progression system?

Before the first game it gives you this option.

Unfortunately, the first time you load up RTTS (literally the very first time you start the mode) is the only time you'll be prompted to edit your repertoire.

I made the unforgivable sin of not selecting the precise pitches I wanted the first time I booted up RTTS, and haven't found an option to edit the repertoire since (even when creating new RTTS save files).

I think SDS literally gives you one chance to select pitches for your universal "Ballplayer" avatar.

...a "universal" character has options set from within a game mode...

In which universe does that make sense?

It's super misleading too, because I went in thinking that you'd have that chance per RTTS file or per "Loadout"...

Nope. Once. Then from there you gotta wait for the nonsensical training days and hope to get the proper pitch replacement for the proper slot.

i.e: I started with sinker, slider, 4-seamer, but was planning to switch to 4-seam, 12-6 curve, cutter/slider/split

It would be a nightmare having to wait out the proper pitch replacement options on the required # of training days to get the repertoire I want.

I even thought I could sim through a month+ to do it, but I got a grand total of 0 training days when I simmed a month into a new RTTS file. I have a sickening feeling that in-season progress might be tied to your "Ballplayer" avatar, to "balance online play" in DD (would ring a loud NBA2K bell if the case)

Other possibility is that simming to advance does not activate training days, which would be a variant of the same ****** up situation

I think the ironic part about people going to this is that DD is like the least pay-to-win mode out there of any card mode. Most of us on here don't spend any money because there's no need, and there's even less need now than ever before this year because you can get any reward in the game now by just playing a bunch.

Peeps can have whatever theories they want, but if that's the theory people go with, then SDS is just sort of bad at its job since DD isn't that sort of bleed-you-dry P2W mode.

I think the better theory would just be to say they didn't read the room right for what peeps wanted out of tweaks to the mode.

But how many stubs do you earn per hour of RTTS? High demand diamond equipment (and I assume traits) are expensive.

And let's be honest here, the marketplace and buying of stubs is preying on the impatient among the players.

Well then I would say they're trying to get money out of RttS players in general rather than using DD as the vector to do it if you want to stick with that line of thinking. Because, again, DD is not really a P2W mode unless you want to make it that. 2K yoinks money from peeps in their career mode (especially out of the gates), and maybe SDS wanted at least a taste of that action etc. -- if you want to use that theory.
