April 29th Philadelphia (12-13) vs St. Louis (14-10)

The last game of a 4 game series and Philadelphia was looking to split it. Aaron Nola vs Dakota Hudson in the rain. The action began in the 2nd when Andrew McCutchen was safe on a throwing error by Molina. The Cardinals paid for it on the next pitch when Didi Gregorious hit a monster shot to left, 455 ft. Paul Goldschmidt came up to bat in the top of the 3rd and hit a homerun of his own to tie the game, but that was the last run St. Louis would score. Not so much for Philadelphia however as J.T Realmuto singled and a double by Segura scored Realmuto to take the lead. An Andrew McCutchen homerun, Rhys Hoskins RBI along with 8 k's by Aaron Nola sealed the deal and secured the split. The Phillies look to close out April 1 game over .500 with a win tomorrow in the home opener against the division leading New York Mets.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

I played with the universal DH on the last two years, but went back to traditional rules this year. Man, I didn't realize how much I missed the strategy. Definitely happy to be back playing NL style baseball.

Trying to win my fourth straight after dropping the first two. Battled back from a 3-0 deficit against Scherzer to tie things in the 8th. And then Panda hit a pinch-hit, three-run bomb in an eventual 7-3 win.

We're 4-2 as we get ready for our first homestand of the year.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

I've been itching to start my franchise but I know I have a lot of work to do. Equipment edits, missing players, durability edits, lineups/rotations. I've been waiting for the roster update to kick it off but I want to get started already. DD is getting very frustrating (I try to at least make it to WS once just to get that banner for my Universal Profile).

I also, want to get my RTTS Franchise going. My plan is to do one with a SP with Pinpoint Pitching and another with a slick fielding Lefty power hitting first baseman

Hey guys, I couldn't figure out where I could ask this so I thought I would give it a shot here.

I am trying to trade for Teoscar Hernandez in my Padres franchise but cannot figure out what a fair value for him would be.

          I am using https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/ as a reference.

According to this Paddack + Pham is sufficient for Teoscar but I feel like it isn't enough. Anyone have any insight on this?

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

I picked up The Show 21 on Xbox last week, and this is my first rodeo since whatever was the last installment on the PS3 five or six years ago. Honestly, it’s basically like riding a bike for the first time in years. While I’m sure the game looks nicer and has more modes and such, it’s still The Show, and still fun as heck, and I feel right at home with it already. I’m right back into franchise mode where I left off all those years ago.

After just completing a 4 game sweep on the road at Oakland, my Detroit Tigers have gotten back over the .500 mark with a 9-7 record to begin our 2021 campaign. Sadly, this is currently only good enough for 4th place in the tightly contested AL Central.

Overall, I’m pleased with the start. The first few games I was having trouble finding my patience while hitting and my timing pitching. I struck out too many times and swung at too many pitches outside the zone, and I released the ball either too early or too late while pitching. Naturally, repetition helped the process along, and I’ve gotten into a better groove offensively and on the mound, although I’m by no means an expert, and I fear that just like in real life, my ball club leaves a lot to be desired in the talent department compared to much of the competition.

As far as the roster goes, the only player I added to the roster at the start of the season was closer Shane Greene. He was a Tiger the last few seasons, but was traded to the Braves midway through last year to my dismay. When I saw that he was available as a free agent in the game, I made some room for him on the main roster and signed him to a 3 year deal. He has been an absolute stud out of the gate with 6 saves in 6 opportunities so far.

I've actually had a couple of short term injuries out of the gate, and have been fairly vigilante about substituting players regularly and trying to keep guys fresh. So, that's why even the bench players have similar numbers as the starters. I like to rotate regularly.

There are a number of players in the system who are currently playing for the Tigers in real life, but due to Spring Training results, are currently playing for the Toledo Mudhens in my franchise. The most notable players include pitchers Tarik Skubal, Jose Urena and Buck Farmer who are off to great starts in AAA ball. Notable position players who are currently on the Hens include Christin Stewart and Jacoby Jones, and they appear to be off to solid starts as well. I figured I’ll assess the club at the end of April, and decide who all we need to move up or down at that time. Perhaps at that point, I’ll provide an update here as well.

I’m enjoying this thread quite a bit, and it’s good to be playing The Show again for the first time in ages. Thanks, fellas.

The Reds lose their first series of the season in a bad way. Arizona SWEPT the Reds with great pitching and huge power offensively.

                0-6 L (Miley 2-1; Bumgarner 4-2)
                5 - 12 L (Gray 1-2; Gallen 4-1)
                2-4 L (Castillo 3-3; Weaver 3-0; Soria S,5)

Game one saw Bumgarner pitch a complete game shutout! I managed only 3 hits and struck out 12 times.

Game two saw Sonny Gray only last 2.1ip as he gave up 8 runs, 7 earned and was yanked. They hit five homeruns with Calhoun blasting two of his own. He crushed the ball all series and I had no answer for him. Gallen gave up 3 runs in 5ip.

Game three the Diamondbacks finished the sweep. Weaver went 6 innings with 6k and giving up 2 runs. Their bullpen held us scoreless the final three innings to finish the sweep.

Up next for the Reds is a final series of the month of April vs the Braves at home. They are 17-13 sitting 3rd in a very competitive division from top to bottom honestly.

We will be looking to bounce back from getting swept. Our division lead has shrank to only 1.5 games up on the Brewers. I will post of team stats and league leaders after the month is over.

Cardinals option Jordan Hicks to Memphis..Recall Seth Elledge

The Cardinals have optioned RHP Jordan Hicks to Memphis and recalled RHP Seth Elledge. Hicks has struggled thru the first three weeks of the season with a 9.49 ERA, a WHIP of 3, and he has surrendered 4 homeruns in only 2 2/3 innings of work, although he's appeared in 6 games.

The final straw was the series opener with the Phillies when Hicks came into a one run game (Cards trailing) and proceeded to give up 4 runs on 2 homeruns without recording a single out.

Hicks will go to Memphis to try and sort out his mechanics and see if he can't return to form.

Seth Elledge was close to making the roster out of Spring Training, but the club opted to kept Ponce de Leon as a long relief/spot starter in the early part of the year. Elledge hasn't allowed a run in Memphis thru 6 innings of work and has only given up 2 hits. He has 14 strikeouts versus just one walk in those innings.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Completely agree. I haven't started my Franchise yet because I'm wanting to get a few more exhibition games in to feel comfortable with the mechanics (I'm new to The Show on Xbox and have little kids, so between the learning curve and my limited window to play, it's taking longer than it normally would).

I'm hoping with the dynamic difficulty I can get these realistic results you guys are seeing.

Reds vs Braves game one saw two teams both with three game loss streak. Unfortunately the Reds couldn't hold back the Braves, as they take the lead late and give the Reds their 4th straight loss.

Started off well scoring one run with 4 hits after 2 innings. Matt Schrock with the RBI single in the 2nd.

That would unfortunately be all we score as Max Fried and the Braves bullpen shut me down. Fried only went 5 innings, but Tomlin, Dayton, Minter all going 1 inning only giving up one walk and no hits innings 6-8.

Acuna with his league leading 10th homerun in the 8th gave them a 3-1 lead late. Martin with his 7th save to give the Braves a needed win for them. Game two will see Soroka on the mound vs Lorenzen who is currently the best SP performance wise I think so far for the Reds.

Just an unbelievable amount of bad luck for the Cardinals in my franchise continues.

They have been without Harrison Bader for 24 games still on the IL for 26 more days. They lost Dylan Carlson for the season after 20 games with a torn ACL. And NOW the last game vs the Padres they lost Matt Carpenter for 1-2 months with a dislocated shoulder, AND LF Austin Dean, who was called up when Carlson went down is now out 1-2 months as well.

They have the worst record in baseball, sitting 9-22 and already 9gb in the division end of April. As a Reds fan and franchise with them I am loving it lol. But I don't want to get too confident cause injuries could happen at any time to any one player. Sorry, Cardinals fans but in my franchise your team is in the ****ter [emoji1]

Game 2 of the series was a good pitcher's duel between Soroka and Lorenzen.

                              Soroka with 6ip 3er and only 3k

Lorenzen also with 6ip giving up no runs on only 3 hits and 5 strikeouts.

Hoffman came in and pitched well in the 7th. Trying to rest my bullpen I pitched him in the 8th where he gave up a 2 run homerun by Acuna to make it 4-2.

Antone got the last out in the 8th, and Garrett gets his 9th save of the season with a flawless 9th. Reds win 4-2 and breaks the 4 game losing streak!

Game three of the final series of April:

What a wild back and forth game this was. Wade Miley who started the season so well until his last couple starts he showed gave up some runs. This game the Braves jumped out of the gate the top of the 1st.

Acuña (again) with a leadoff homerun. 1-0 Braves. Two singles by Freeman and Albies, a strikeouts of Ozuna in-between. Then a 3 run no doubters by d'Arnaud who was 2-11 in the series to that point. 4-0 Braves before I know it.

Bottom of the First Joey Votto hits his 5th of the season to cut the lead to 4-1.

Charlie Morton locked us up from there. He went 6ip 5 hits 2 runs and 6 strikeouts.

Dayton comes in the 7th inning with the Braves up 5-2.

Senzel pinch hits for Schrock. Hits a single to lead things off. Naquin then singles and now runners on the corners. I pinch hit Mike Freeman out for Kyle Farmer vs the lefty Dayton.

Farmer singles to left field and brings in Senzel. Score is 5-3 now with two on and no out.

Top of the order is up now with Winker. He blasts a no doubter deep right field and we now have the lead 6-5!

We take that lead to the 9th inning with Garrett is in looking for his 10th save in as many opportunities.

Whadya know, top of the order leading off the 9th. Acuña for a THIRD time hits a first pitch homerun and the game is tied 6-6.

Freeman with a double. After strikeouts of Ozuna and Albies, d'Arnaud doubles to right in the gap and gives them the 7-6 lead. First blown save and loss for Amir Garrett.

Braves take the win and the series. Up next for us is a long 10 game road trip in Washington, New York, and Colorado. Hopefully can win 6 of the 10 and no worse than .500

Next post will be the monthly stats and leaders after the first month of the season.

The first month of the season has ended for the Cincinnati Reds.

Reds lead the division with a 17-13 record. Slumping lately with a 4-6 record our last 10. The Brewers (16-15) are second and 1.5gb. Cardinals are 10-22 and on a 3 game win streak. Long season but a rough first month for them.

NL East sees the Mets lead with a 19-12 record and only a .5 game up on the Nationals (18-12). The Braves (19-14) are 3rd in a super tight division.

NL West with the Dodgers (18-12) with a 2.5 game lead on the Giants and Dbacks, both 16-15.

In the AL East the Red Sox (20-13) lead the division by 3 games on the Rays. The Yankees (13-19) sit last in the division.

AL West have the Rangers (18-12) lead the division over the Astros (17-14) and Mariners (18-15).

This is mostly just me always wanting to pitch to contact so much. This is also why we are last in strikeouts. Can't get many Ks if not willing to give up more walks.

                                Strikeouts: Rockies 214
                                Reds 183 (30th)

Like usual in this game lol, I lead the league in GIDP already with 30.

Other random things are Reds are last in assists by a large margin. Lack of ground balls and not sure there's much I can do other than consciously pitch lower in the zone. Going to try.

Reds are also bad defensively with 19 errors, tied for last. And last in fielding %. Suarez with a bunch at SS this season. This also of course has led to low number of assists. Ground balls on the left side can be an adventure. Enjoying the challenge and frustration lol.
