Cardinals drop series to Braves, trail Brewers by full game

The Cardinals (43-29) dropped yet another series in June, this time to the Braves in St.Louis over the weekend. The Cardinals now trail the Brewers by a full game in the NL Central and the Cubs have officially made this a 3 team race as the calendar is about to flip to July.

The struggles continue for the Cardinals this month. Dakota Hudson won the series opener Friday night, pitching a great game holding the Braves to just 2 runs on 7 hits. The offense generated just enough offense to earn the victory. After this the offense would again become stagnant.

Jack Flaherty got the ball Saturday night, as he tried to earn his NL leading 10th win of the season. But Flaherty just didn't have it allowing 5 runs on 8 hits over just 5 innings of work. He did strikeout 6 but also walked 4. The bullpen would go on to allow another 4 runs as the Cards were dominated by Max Fried and the bullpen to a 9-0 loss.

The series finale, Levi Prater got the ball and while he pitched well, he would earn his first loss (3-1) after giving up 4 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings. The bullpen would again allow 4 runs and the Cards would again be shutout, this time 8-0.

The Cardinals need to find an injection of offense somewhere. Depth is a growing concern for the organization right now, as they are getting little to no production from their bench players, or guys recalled from Memphis, outside of Levi Prater and his pitching.

With the calendar turning to July, the trade deadline being a month away, and the Cardinals finding themselves in a 3 team battle for the NL Central crown, it may be time for the Cards to address some of their needs.

The Cardinals will be back in action Monday night as they welcome the White Sox to town for a brief 2 game series.

Cardinals re-sign free agent Matt Carpenter to one year deal

The Cardinals have re-signed Matt Carpenter to a one year $4M deal yesterday. The 36 year old will join the Cardinals Monday evening in St.Louis when the Cards host the White Sox.

Carpenter played well last year after being put into the starting lineup when Harrison Bader went down early in the season and Tommy Edman moved to centerfield. Carpenter hit .246 with 16 homeruns and 42 RBI's.

Carpenter is being brought in to hopefully help add production off the bench for the Cardinals who view depth as an issue as we move towards the trade deadline. Carpenter will be a prominent left handed bat off the bench that can also play 2B, 3B, and 1B to give guys days off.

Edmundo Sosa was optioned to Memphis to make room on the active roster. The Cardinals are high on Sosa, but believe he needs to get consistent at-bats to help his offensive struggles, and hope to cut down on his strikeout rate by being a better contact hitter.

Carpenter will join Marwin Gonzalez on the bench as the backup infielders. Gonzalez was signed in the offseason to essentially replace Carpenter who mulled retirement after the 2021 season.

This is likely just the first of several "roster balancing moves", as stated by the front office. I would suspect any future moves would come via trade or waiver claim. Some internal roster shuffling is expected as well.

What's going on CB - I enjoy this thread very much, so thank you.

Quick questions: Do you use auto or manual fielding, and did you use an OSFM roster or a San Diego studios one to start your franchise with?

        Thanks,

          Thanks for reading

I use manual fielding. And I used the base roster that released with the game, and made my own edits (no attribute changes)

Hey guys brand new to the forum. Finally was able to get my PS4 setup at my new place so I can start a Franchise. I'll be using the Texas Rangers, figured they have a good group of core young guys should be a fun rebuild. Might play around with the uniforms a bit. Ill be using the extra innings rule and will sim most of the games. I'll play the first game in every division series and against teams with winning records. i'm going to try and do series updates but that might change with my schedule. Hope you guys enjoy!

Because the game is built for their own base roster, not for rosters from the vault, and because there's only 90 (93 in 21) roster spots. By creating a player, the CPU has no way of knowing when that player was actually signed or drafted, which I feel like is the main issue with the back end of this game.

Roster sharing is great, but it's also one of the main reasons why you pretty much have to run your franchise with 30 team control. Kinda sucks, but it's the only real fix to roster issues in the game. Consider that in real life, there's usually 1-2 players DFA'd a day...the CPU doesn't really mess with their 40 man roster, which causes a log jam that affects their ability to add these top prospects, leaving them as open season when it comes to the Rule 5 draft.

                    ROYALS HOST FIRST PLACE YANKEES

                    Game one:
                    WP: M. Minor (7-6)
                    LP: J. Montgomery (8-6)

Alaberto Mondesi led the second off with a HR against Jordan Montgomerie.
The Royals added to the early lead with a Whit Merrifield RBI double. In the third inning, Mondesi would drive in another two, this time on a double. Ryan McBroom would single Mondesi in, and Michael King would replace Montgomery. On his first pitch to Merrifield, Whit would triple, scoring yet another two runs. Alberto would ground out, but the Royals held a 7-0 lead against the Yankees.

Both pitching staffs would be good after that half inning, and the Royals held a 7-0 lead through 7. The Royals desperately needed a pitcher to step up, and Mike Minor did that today. He went 7 shutout innings, allowing just one hit.

The Yankees finally got on the board, when the umps missed a called third strike that would have ended the seventh, but instead gave Clint Frazier another swing. He turned around a Daniel Lynch fastball for a HR.

                    Game two:
                    WP: C. Kluber (14-5)
                    LP: B. Singer (8-8)
                    S: C. Green (35)

Brady Singer notched a quality start, giving up just two runs over six innings, but the Royals offense was shut out by Corey Kluber, and the Yankees win 3-0.

                    Game three:
                    WP: J. Kowar (1-0)
                    LP: G. Cole (11-4)

Jackson Kowar gave up a first inning solo HR to Gleyber Torres, but struck out Judge to end the inning.

The Royals got the run back on a Jorge Soler rbi double off of Gerrit Cole in the bottom of the inning.

After the Yankees added a run in the fourth, Seuly Matias hit his first career HR for the Royals in the bottom of the inning, a two run HR that out the Royals ahead 3-2. Merrifield would add a two run HR of his own and the Royals took a 5-2 lead over Gerrit Cole.

It wasn’t a pretty start for Jackson Kowar, as he gave up ten hits in just five innings. He did however limit the Yankees to two runs on those hits, limiting the damage masterfully.

In the sixth, against Jonathan Loaiiga, Seuly Matia would hit his second career HR, this time a three run HR. The inning got away from the Yankees quickly as the Royals put up a 7 spot to take a 12-3 lead.

When it was all over, the Royals were victorious 16-4, a day after they were shut out. Rookie Seuly Matias ended up with two HRs and 6 RBIs.

                      ROYALS HOST FIRST PLACE CARDINALS
                      Game one:
                      WP: C. Martinez (7-6)
                      LP: B. Keller (10-8)

Brad Keller got rocked in the first two innings, giving up a Dylan Carlson grand slam in the first inning, and a Paul Goldschmidt three run HR in the second.

The Royals tried to keep pace, getting a three run HR from Joc Pederson and a Salvy RBI single off of Carlos Martinez. After four, the Cardinals held a 7-4 lead.

After loading the bases off Keller again in the fifth, Jakob Junis came in to face Andrew Knizner with two outs. Knizner singled in a pair before Junis could end the inning.

The Royals never threatened to score again, and the Cardinals won 9-4. The only bright spot was Jakob Junis pitching the last 4.1 innings to save the bullpen.

                      Game two:
                      WP: K. Bubic (8-7)
                      LP: M. Mikolas (8-10

In the second game, it was the Royals offense that went off early. Jorge Soler hit a two run HR, and the Royals got two more runs on a Seuly Mattias double off of Miles Mikolas.

The Royals would jump out to a 9-1 lead over the Cardinals in the first six innings, and hold them off 9-5 to even the series

                      Game three:
                      WP: G. Gallegos (8-2)
                      LP: J. Staumont (4-4)
                      S: A. Reyes (27)

Mike Minor went six scoreless, but left with the game still 0-0.

The Cardinals would immediately jump on Scott Barlow, grabbing a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Justin Williams.

In the eight, the Royals drew even when Hunter Dozier drove in the tying run on a sac fly.

In the top of the ninth, Harrison Bader doubled off of Josh Staumont with one out, and was driven in on an Edmundo Sosa bloop single. Staumont would get through the ninth, but the Royals would be down 2-1.

The Royals would get a two out single from Soler, but he would be stranded to end the game. The Cardinals win the series.

The Royals record is 64-53, now three games behind the White Sox.

                        Detroit Tigers MLB 21
                        Motorcity Baseball

The year has arrived, 2022. The year Tigers fans have waited for. After a 74 win season in 2021, Detroit looks to break .500 and the playoff drought of 7 years. The Division is always the goal but the Wildcard seems more doable.
Miguel Cabrera comes back for season 20 and his 15th in Detroit. He is 3 HR's short of 500 and 36 hits short of 3000 after missing the final 7 weeks to an MCL sprain. Akil Badoo looks to continue making his presence known after a 22 HR's, .307 avg ROY season.

Detroit only made 2 moves besides resigning their own. A signing of Miguel Rojas to a 2 yr, 8 million dollar deal to help the infield and most shockingly, The Tigers brought back the Detroit hero, Justin Verlander after 5 seasons away on a 1 yr 10.5 million dollar deal. His deal is questionable because it pushes Matt Manning back to AAA after 7 appearances, 12 innings and a 4.23 ERA. But if he regains his form he becomes the number 1 for this staff and could even be a mentor to Casey Mize and Matt Manning.
For now Manning will be joined in AAA with Daz Cameron and highly touted Spencer Torkelson who is expected to make his debut early this season. Riley Greene will start in AA with The Erie Seawolves.

Welcome to the 2021 Texas Rangers franchise

To start off in spring training the Rangers made a couple moves: singing Pablo Rodriguez and Ken Traxler two game generated players. one A Potential and that other B potential SP one being 18 and the other 20. Figured I'd take a shot and see if any of those guys would pan out. The Rangers also signed Edubray Ramos to a 2YR 2.8M contract with a club option.

The Rangers then decided to trade for Chance Sisco of the Orioles sending Ian Kennedy and a lower level prospect for him. They brought him in to platoon with Jose Trevino and let Sam Huff develop in the minors along with Jonah Heim.

Opening on the road at Kansas City for 3 then back home against Toronto for 3 as well

ROYALS PLAY COSTLY SERIES AGAINST HOUSTON
                            Game one:

                            WP: G. Holland (2-3)
                            LP: K. Emmanuel (5-2)

Kris Bubic got through seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, but departed with the score still 0-0 as Astros pitching was just as good.

In fact, both staffs were terrific, and the game was scoreless headed to the bottom of the ninth.

Facing Kent Emmanuel, Michael Taylor laced a double in the gap to put the Royals one hit away from victory. Hanser Alberto followed up with a single, but it was hit to soft to scored the runner.

The Astros went to the bullpen for Zack Greine, facing Nicky Lopez with runners at the corners. On a 2-0 count, Greinke threw a curveball that Lopez smashed into left center for the walk off.

                            Game two:
                            WP: J. Verlander (9-6)
                            LP: G. Holland (2-4)
                            S: R. Pressly (41)

Ahmed Rosario wasted no time against Jackson Kowar, doubling on the first pitch, and he would be driven in on a sac fly from Michael Brantley in the first.

Carlos Santana would come through for the Royals in the bottom of the first with a two out double to score a run, but Salvy would get thrown out at third to end the inning.

After both teams trade runs in the second, Salvy hits a sac fly in the bottom of the 5th to put the Royals up 3-2.

The Astros began the sixth with a lead off double by Yuli Gurriel, which chased Jackson Kowar from the game for Kyle Zimmer. Chas McCorrmick would single in Gurriel, before he was driven in by a sac fly from Jose Altuve to put the Astros up 4-3.

The lead was short lived however, because Seuly Mattias hit his third HR of the season (solo) to tie the game.

The game would continue to be a back and forth affair. After walking Yordan Alvarez, Greg Holland hit Alex Bregman with a pitch. Holland would then get back to back swinging strikeouts. Chas McCormick would then single to RF to drive in a run but get thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double. The Astros had taken the 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

Whit Merrifield would kick off the half inning reaching via a Bregman error, than Alaberto Mondesi would single. Salvy would smash a ball to the third baseman, but be thrown out at first, however both runners would move up. With first open, the Astros would intentionally walk Jorge Soler to load the bases for Carlos Santana. It would prove to be the right call as Santana would ground into the killer double play.

In the bottom of the ninth with a runner at second and two outs, Soler hit one to the warning track for the last out.

                            Game three:
                            WP: K. Emanuel (6-2)
                            LP: J. Junis (7-3)

The game was scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, until Jorge Soler doubled and was driven in by Joc Pederson.

The Astros finally got to Brad Keller in the sixth when Yordan Alvarez singled in a run to tie it at 1-1.

Lance McCullers would go seven innings to Brad Keller’s right, with both starting pitchers allowing just one run apiece.

Julian Merriweather would come out for the ninth, and was greeted with a first pitch HR from Carlos Correa. The Astros would add another run to take a 3-1 lead to the bottom of the ninth.

Merrifield and Mondesi were both retired by Ryan Pressly, but Carlos Santana hit a two out double in front of Jorge Soler. Pressly challenged him with a fastball and Soler hit a no doubt two run HR to tie the game at 3.

The game would go to extras and Josh Staumont would pitch for the Royals. Myles Straw would single in the auto runner on a bloop single. Staumont would then strikeout the next three Astros to sent it to the bottom of the 10th.

Salvador Perez would pinch hit and hit a drive to CF that was tracked down, but Seuly Matias was able to advance to third. Hanser Alberto would now pinch hit for Nicky Lopez against the left handed throwing Kent Emanuel. He too would hit a drive deep into the outfield that was ran down, but was able to tie the game at 4-4.

The Royals would send their third straight pinch hitter to the plate, this time Ryan McBroom, and he doubled. Merrifield struck out to end the inning though, and the game went to the 11th.

Jakob Junis would come into the game for the Royals, and with one out, Ahmed Rosario would single in a run to give the Astros the 5-4 advantage. Junis would retire the next two to send it to the bottom of the inning, the Royals needing a run.

Alaberto Mondesi would lead the half inning off by dropping down a bunt to advance Merrifield, but Bregman couldn’t field it cleanly and he was safe at first. Carlos Santana would come to the plate and strikeout, bringing up Soler. Mondesi would steal second, but Soler would go down swinging, bringing up Joc Pederson, who walked.

Bases loaded and down by one, it was rookie Seuly Matias at bat. On a full count, Matias put a perfect swing on it, but it was directly at Jose Altuve would caught the ball to save the game.

Danny Duffy has been reinstated from the IL. Jackson Kowar has been sent to triple-a Omaha.

                            Game four:
                            WP: K. Zimmer (5-0)
                            LP: J. Verlander (9-7)
                            S: J. Staumont (26)

Bad news strikes for the Royals, as Alaberto Mondesi had to be removed from the game after a double due to injury while running the bases. The trainers think it could be a serious sprain.

In the bottom of the fifth, down 2-1, the Royals loaded the bases with one out for Hanser Alberto. He would hit a sac fly to tie the game.

In one out in the bottom of the eighth, Nicky Lopez broke the tie with an RBI single off of Justin Verlander, pitching in relief. Michael Taylor drove in a big insurance run, driving in McBroom, who had to be removed after the play because he too was hurt while sliding into home.

Dozier would then drive in a run to give the Royals a 5-2 lead, which the Royals would hold onto to win the game, but they’ll wait to talk the trainers to see at what cost.

*Alaberto Mondesi has sustained an ACL sprain and will head to the 10 day IL

Ryan McBroom though, has a broken hand which will require surgery. He will be headed to the 60 day IL.

INF Lucius Fox and OF Kyle Isbel have been called up to the Royals

The Royals are now 66-55, just 2 GB of the White Sox for the division and currently holding onto the second WC spot. They will now go on the road for series against the Cubs, Astros, and Mariners.

ROYALS MAKE RARE TRIP TO WRIGLEY
                              Game one:
                              WP: A. Chafin (3-3)
                              LP: K. Zimmer (5-1)
                              S: D. Winkler (18)

A rare trip to Wrigley for the Royals started off with a monster solo HR by Carlos Santana off of Cubs starting pitcher Justin Steele to lead off the second inning.

The Cubs would tie it with back to back hits by rookies Drew Ferguson (first career hit) and Trent Giambrone off of Mike Minor.

The game would remain 1-1 until a Jason Heyward RBI double off of Kyle Zimmer out the Cubs ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth.

Carlos Santana singled with one out in the ninth and was lifted for Jarrod Dyson, who stole second. He was advanced to third on a Michael Taylor single. Dozier hit a fly ball that appeared to be deep enough to score Dyson from third, but Jason Heyward would gun him out at the plate to end the game.

                              Game two:
                              WP: G. Holland (3-4)
                              LP: D. Winkler (2-6)
                              S: J. Staumont (27)

Both starting pitchers were outstanding. Brady Singer went 6.2 innings, allowing only one run on four hits. He was out-dueled however by Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks, who worked into the ninth with a shutout in tact.

8 innings should have been the end for him however, as Santana and Soler reached with one out in the inning.

The Cubs would stick with him however to face the man they traded to the Royals at the deadline, Joc Pederson. After a lengthy battle, Pederson walked to load the bases with one out.

The Cubs would bring on closer Dan Winkler to face rookie Lucius Fox, looking to make an early impression for his team.

Fox would come through with a sac fly to tie it (and give him his first career RBI).

In the tenth, rookie Seuly Matias would single to score rookie Meibrys Viloria to give the Royals a 2-1 lead. Then it was rookie Kyle Isbel singling up the middle for his first career hit. Merrifield would single in another run, and the Royals took a 4-1 lead, which is what the final score would be.

                              Game three:
                              WP: A. Alzolay (6-13)
                              LP: D. Duffy (6-6)
                              S: R. Wick (12)

It was another pitching duel, as Danny Duffy and Adbert Alzolay got to the sixth with the score 0-0. Joc Pederson was the one to break the score, homering to put the Royals up 1-0.

Duffy took the mound in the sixth band was still pitching well, but an error by Lucius Fox allowed the tying run to score.

Duffy would then get a routine ground ball for an inning ending double play, but once again the Royals rookie committed a costly error, this time throwing the ball into the dugout, allowing two more unearned runs to score.

Down 4-1 late, Joc Pederson would go deep again and so would Dozier, but they fell a run short and fall 4-3. Danny Duffy takes the loss despite pitching 6 innings without allowing an earned run.
