ROYALS GO TO BALTIMORE, DON’T FULLY CAPITALIZE
Game one:
WP: B. Singer (10-9)
LP: B. Zimmermann (8-9)
S: J. Staumont (30)
Orioles SP Bruce Zimmerman only made it 4+ innings, getting roughed up for six runs on nine hits.
Brady Singer would go six innings and allow only one run. The Orioles would get within striking distance when Trey Mancini hit a two run HR in the seventh to pull to within 6-4, but the Royals would add a run in the eight and win 7-4.
Game two:
WP: D. Duffy (7-7)
LP: A. Plutko (11-8)
Joc Pederson’s solo HR with two outs in the fourth out the Royals up 1-0, but Cedric Mullins tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
In the sixth inning, the Royals would load the bases with one out for Joc Pederson. He jumped on a first pitch fastball from Adam Plutko for a grand slam, putting the Royals ahead for good, as they win 8-3 for their fifth win in a row.
Game three:
WP: Z. Lowther (1-1)
LP: B. Keller (10-11)
S: C. Valdez (29)
This time it was the Orioles jumping out to an early 3-0 lead off of Brad Keller, and extended it to 7-1 after just 2.1 innings pitched.
Jakob Junis would come in and pitch the last 5.2 innings scoreless, but the Royals could only get within 7-4.
Game four:
WP: J. Means (4-8)
LP: K. Bubic (9-9)
S: C. Valdez (30)
The Royals went to the ninth down 5-2, and put runners at second and third with one out. Salvador Perez took a pitch and hammered it to deep left center, but it died on the warning track, just feet away from a game tying HR. It became a sac fly, and Jorge Soler grounded out to end the game.
For a team battling to make it to the playoffs, this was a frustrating series. When you win the first two of a four game series against the Orioles you would like to come away with more than a split.
