2021 Baltimore Orioles Around The League Update

Dodgers dominate 2021, break regular season win record

The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed a hard to beat record in 2021. The defending World Series champions finished the year with a record of 117-45. The 117 wins breaks the twenty year old record of 116 which was held by the Seattle Mariners from their 2001 season.

The Dodgers will look to repeat as the Champions and will start their run against the winner of the NL Wildcard game between The New York Mets and San Diego Padres

2021 Baltimore Orioles ALDS Game 1

Means Shelled, Bieber solid as Indians take game one

John Means was less than stellar (5 IP 11 Hits 5 ER) in game one of the ALDS between Cleveland and Baltimore. His outing started off poorly as Cesar Hernandez took a high fastball deep in the first inning.

Jorge Lopez would come in the sixth and hold the Indians scoreless for the remainder of the game but the damage was done as the Indians held on to a 5-4 victory.

2021 Baltimore Orioles ALDS Game 2

        Final Score

        CLE-3
        BAL-1

Orioles face 2-0 deficient as offense sputters

The Baltimore Orioles have had a season full of ups and downs offensively and thus far, there have been more downs in the postseason. The team could only manage three hits in game two of the ALDS. One of the three was a solo homerun by Michael Brantley but even that couldnt energize the rest of the team as Baltimore fell to Cleveland in the series 2-0.

Baltimore will now travel to Cleveland to try to avoid elimination.

The Cubs keep rolling along, but so do the Reds and Brewers with just 1 game separating all three at the top of the NL Central.

          Standouts:

Kyle Hendricks has 4 wins and a no decision with a 0.86 WHIP and a 1.16 ERA. He's pitching to contact which is working for now with the 4th ranked defence behind him ... though, at some stage that luck will run out.

Rex Brothers has been dominate out of the Bullpen. The clever lefty has appeared in 11 games, throwing 11 innings and is still yet to allow a run, and has only allowed 3 hits in that span while striking out 14 batters.

Thairo Estrada who was traded for as depth and insurance in the infield has made the 3B spot his, hitting .347 well into the 2nd month of the season, driving in 12 RBIs and stealing three bases. Pitchers can't seem to get him out as he has a 14-game hit streak and counting.

Willsson Contreras is raking. Batting .286 but with a OBP of .417 9 HR and 17 RBI's he and Estrada are making up 85% of the cubs offence. Which is a worry, when/ if they slump who will pick up the slack.

Defensively Jason Heyward and rookie Brandan Marsh have been excellent in the outfield. Denying extra bases, throwing runners down and denying runs everywhere.

Marsh is batting a useful .270 too which keeps him as the everyday centrefielder (for now) while Happ and Hermosillo platoon out the LF position.

Standings after 50 games sees the NL Central as the closest and maybe most competitive division in Baseball through the first two months.

          NL Central

          Reds 30 - 20
          Brewers 30-22 (0.5) GB
          Cubs 29 - 21 (1.0)
          Cardinals 28-24 (2.0)

Orioles avoid elimination as bats come alive.

There will be a game four! Baltimore hit just .177 through the first games two of the ALDS but the bats came alive in game three to a tune of 16 hits and 11 runs.

It appeared that the teams struggles would continue through the first two innings as Zach Plesac came out dealing. Something clicked in the third as Plesac worked himself into trouble (2 walks). The Orioles lineup made Plesac pay for his mistakes with some well hit balls that knocked in four runs. From there, the Orioles would never look back.

The Orioles also got a stellar pitching performance from rookie, Conner Greene who needed just 73 pitches to throw a complete game. The only run given up was a homerun to Franmil Reyes in the bottom of the 7th. In total, Cleveland was only able to get three hits off of Greene.

Game four will be played on Tuesday with the Orioles again trying to avoid elimination With Matt Harvey on the mound. Triston Mckenzie is set to pitch for Cleveland.

Starting my 30 team control franchise with a Cubs Emphasis. Goal is to GM the 29 other teams and play a few games each night across the league, but play 162 with the Cubs.

Spring training has wrapped and here are some notables:

Freddie Freeman - Resigns 6 years for 186 million

Albert Pujols - DFA’d and granted outright release. Albert is expected to monitor contender’s needs and make a decision closer to the ASB

Universal DH - A silver lining of the Covid 2020 Season, the NL will utilize the DH in 2021 and beyond

I hadn't updated in a bit because well, I was pretty frustrated, aggravated, upset, etc.....

The other day I wanted to view something that I couldn't see in my current save file (please carry over more information) so I uploaded an old save file (the one right before offseason began) so that I could view what I wanted to see.

All good until I realized the other day that like an idiot I saved it over my current save file thus wiping out everything that had happened in the offseason and now having to start over. Only silver lining is this save file is after the postseason concluded so the Dodgers still beat the Astros in the World Series, but everything else, signings, trades, etc..., are completely gone. :

I was so upset with myself that I actually considered not continuing and just stopping. But we all know I love the game too much (both baseball and the Show), so I am starting over trying to forget what had happened and treat it as "fresh" and "new" but its been difficult.

Anyways, just wanted to vent/share my frustrations and that if I update and you see different things happening, its because I didn't pay attention and even worse, something I always do but hadn't of late, is backup save files to the cloud.

I could kick myself, and did a few times, but once again the 2022/2023 offseason is about to begin. Just need to forget and carry on.

                    Sigh....

I've had some seriously bad luck with Max Fried. In his first start of the year on April 3rd, he had to leave with an injury in the bottom of the 4th. He was able to make his next start on the 9th, but had to leave that start with a different injury after 6 innings. Doesn't make his next start until June 4th. Gets hit by a line drive in the 5th and has to leave that start.

57 games into the season, and Max Fried has just 13 innings pitched. He'll be out 1-6 days with a bruised forehead, so hopefully he'll make his next start. But it's kinda wild the bad luck he's had. Especially considering I've been really healthy besides that.

                        September 15, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL

The Chicago Cubs ended their three game skid Tuesday night at Wrigley Field, besting the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-2. The Cubs, who had lost four of their last five games entering the game, jumped out to an early lead when Kyle Schwarber belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning off of Pirates hurler Jameson Taillon. Schwarber homered again in the fourth inning as the Cubs notched their 97th win of the year.

"We needed to get back into the win column," said Scharber after the game. "We've been tough to beat all year and we know that as the season ends we need to carry this momentum into the postseason." Schwarbers two home runs were his 38th and 39th of the year, leading the Cubs.

Jose Quintana tossed 5 2/3 innings, earning his 12th win of the year. The Cubs southpaw surrendered two runs on five hits.

Ian Happ and Victor Caratini, who was recently activated from the injured list, also homered as the Cubs move one step closer to home field advantage in the National League Divisional Series.

With just ten game remaining in the 2020 regular season, it's is almost a foregone conclusion that the Cubs will face the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS. With the Dodgers, who currently hold the best record in baseball at 102-49, are likely to have a postseason matchup against the Wild Card, while the Cubs and Braves will be left to face one another. The Braves have faltered over the last week and have currently dropped their last five games. With the Braves at 88 wins, the magic number for home field advantage for the Cubs in the NLDS currently sits at 4.

When asked if he'd consider resting some starters over the final two weeks of the season Cubs skipper David Ross had the following to say. "It's always a fine line when you're in a position like we are. Obviously, it's a good problem to have, for the most part. You want to maintain your momentum going into the postseason but at the same time you want to make sure guys are at 100%. We may look to give some guys a little extra rest but they can also expect to get plenty of innings as we move to close out the season."

Another 3 game series with the Brewers coming with the Cubs one game ahead of them and tied with Cincinnati for the lead of the NL Central.

Game 1 was a chippy affair with both teams using their number 5 pitcher. The brewers dominated early with Adrian Houser on the mound getting lots of hard contact, but straight to fielders, meanwhile their bats were wearing down Chicago starter Justin Steele who took 54 pitches to get through the first three innings.

Top of the 4th it all caught up with him as the Brewers batted in three runs after a walk, an error and a base hit to Garcia. With 2 on and 2 out, Eduardo Escobar cleared the left field wall with a raking bomb to put the brewers up 5-nil.

Cubs hit back immediately with solo home runs at the bottom of the 4th to Ian Happ and Jason Heyward.

Heading into the 7th inning with Brewers up 5-2, Cubs reliever Alec Mills blooped a ball over the 1st baseman's head. Leadoff Nico Hoerner drew a walk before Joe Panik caused a throwing error at 3rd base to 1st to load the bases.

Batting number three due to recent hotstreak and hot hitting, Thairo Estrada cleared the bases with a hard line drive into the gap all the way to the wall to tie things up at 5-all.

Both teams were chewing through their bullpens after the starters failed to make it past 4 innings.

entering the top of the 8th and with the literally unhittable Josh Hader warming up in the pens, the brewers turned to Brad Boxberger who struck out one and got CF brandon marsh to flyout to deep centre.

Gregory Polanco came in to pinch hit for righty Matt Duffy. Polanco is only batting .217 but does have 9 HR and 17 RBI's. He lifted Boxberger over the RF wall and up into the cheap seats on a first pitch fastball that carried 453 feet.

Cubs closer Rowan Wick sat down the Brewers 1-2-3 for his 8th save of the season and keeps his ERA at 0.00.

Series resumes tomorrow with teams turning to their Aces, Kyle Hendricks (1.98) and Corbin Burnes (1.23).

Thairo Estrada will take a 14 game hitting streak into the game as he's batting a tick under .400 in late May.

                            Speaking of estrada ...

does anyone know what's up with the regression in the game? how does it work?

Estrada is 25 years old, B rated prospect batting .383 and has been batting over .400 for close to two months.

Yet he has regressed 1 point right across every single metric? Which doesn't seem accurate, realistic or tbh, fair.

How you guys counteract that kind of unrealistic regression?

I thought i would manually add the points back, and then maybe raise his potential to A+ to stop it from doing the same?

Meanwhile someone like Jason Heyward, 32 years old, C-rated potential and batting below the mendoza line has not shed a single stat point so far?? the whole system seems inaccurate, but tbh i have no idea how it works?

O's blank Indians, push series to deciding game five.

The stage was set in a game four on a chilly 48 degree night in Cleveland. Matt Harvey was making his first playoff start since 2015 and if his regular season success continued, he could relive his past success while a member of the New York Mets. That dream would not become a reality however as Harvey exited the game in the third inning after suffering a strained bicep.

Jorge Lopez who started off the year as a starter, was sent down to Norfolk after some struggles and brought back in September would come into the game and pitch very well(4.2 IP 2 H 0 R 3 SO).

Both teams struggled to get much going on offense but a four run fourth would propel the Orioles to victory. The scoring for the O's started after back to back doubles by Michael Brantley and Ryan Mountcastle. Later in the inning, Rio Ruiz would do what he does best as he crushed a ball over the right field fence for an additional three runs.

The Orioles held the Indians to a total of three hits for the second game in a row and the offense did what was needed as the two teams now head back to Baltimore for a series deciding game 5.

**side note, in this series I noticed Cleveland has Josh Naylor and Bo Naylor (17 yrs old on the major league roster...wow!) who are brothers. It's always cool to see family in sports and in the last game, they were batting back to back and Bo got his first postseason hit.

In other news, the Yankees closed our their series with the Astros and await the winner of our series while the Dodgers and Cubs are set to face each other in the NLCS.

I appreciate yalls replies. Fluffy, I play on hall of fame and use directional hitting so that may explain how ive done as well as I have with the Orioles. Still, its been fun and challenging enough. Our closer had 50 saves so there were alot of close games mixed in through the season.

For your question about regression, I really dont know much about how it works. I usually just take the losses and gains as they come. I do think I remember seeing something about the coaches having an effect on that but im not sure.

Setting up a grandstand finish for a date with teh yanks, hopefully.

cheers on the info, re regression... coaching makes sense as having an impact

i'd love to know exactly how it affects the game engine.
