Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

And we did exactly what we had to do. After splitting the first series we ended up sweeping the Giants winning 7-1, 7-2, 4-0 to improve to 5-2 on the young season. Hosmer after a horrific 0-12 start to the season came alive and now is now hitting .286 w/ 3HRS. Next up is an interleague series vs Texas, where SD always seems to have something magical happen against them. Still need to get Myers and Machado going.

Playing 1 game of every series.

The Philadelphia Phillies look to finally end a 9 year playoff drought. Only the Mariners have gone longer without the playoffs.
With a strong starting pitching staff of Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola, paired with the heavy bats of JT Realmuto, and Bryce Harper. Throw in the Sacramento native Rhys Hoskins for good measure and there is no reason this team shouldn't be competing for the playoffs every season. But then you remember the relievers and it suddenly all makes sense. The Achilles heel of the Phillies is that bullpen. But today is a new season and with the necessary adjustments, hopefully this team will be competing with the big hitting Braves and billionaire Mets for the playoffs and a chance at World Series glory.

Philadelphia @ Atlanta: Not much to say about the series opener against the Atlanta Braves. A 0-0 game through 9 after Zack Wheeler pitched a gem. 7 innings, 9 strikeouts and 1 hit by Acuna in the 5th. His teammates were seeing the ball but left 8 runners on base.
With a runner put on 2nd to start the 10th Philadelphia could do nothing until the final out which was at home plate. A double by Realmuto sent Andrew McCutcheon for home but he was tagged at the plate for the 3rd out within inches of the plate. Atlanta came up to bat and Acuna did Acuna things. With 1 out he hit a bloop single to center scoring Dansby Swanson.
In total Philadelphia 8 hits, 0 runs. Atlanta 2 hits, 1 run and the game. Braves remain in 1st place at 7-3 while the Phillies drop into a 3 way tie for 2nd with New York and Miami at 5-5
Breaking News****The Philadelphia Phillies have looked to shore up the bullpen by signing free agent Robert Osuna to a 2 yr 18 million dollar deal after losing in 10 to Atlanta yesterday.

Two solo homeruns by Jonathan Villar and Michael Conforto in the 2nd opened the game up for New York, as Zack Wheeler struggled early. Michael Conforto then came up in the 4th and did it again. It was smooth sailing for The Mets until the 9th when deGrom finally showed he was human and gave up 3 straight hits, a double to Bryce Harper, a single to Hoskins and a double to Andrew McCutcheon which in turn scored Harper and Hoskins, making it 3-2. Lugo was called in to help save the game and quickly got a groundout and strikeout to end the game.

Cardinals sign Greg Garcia to one year deal

The Cardinals have signed veteran IF Greg Garcia to a one year deal worth $2.1M. Garcia was signed to provide MLB ready depth for the infield as the Cardinals have seen the injury bug strike the organization early in the season.

Garcia will head to Memphis to start out, but could be brought up to the majors before the end of April depending on how things go over the next few weeks.

The Cardinals typically don't make roster moves, aside from due to injuries, this early, but with the lack of MLB ready depth amongst infielders, the Cardinals were proactive instead of reactive this time around.

Welcome back Greg! I always loved him. Reminded me of Aaron Miles. Very versatile and a true pro when it comes to being ready off the bench

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

I am in the middle of a 4 game series against Philly now. Hoping to finish last two games tonight to update my Reds franchise. Wheeler did beat me last game going 6ip giving up 3 runs.

One thing I would suggest in this game for more realism and difficulty is to help the AI manage their bullpen.

After reading your post I saw the inning DeGrom had in the 9th. I just immediately thought how I would've switched sides and pulled him after giving up that first hit. Wheeler in that last game I played against was at 103 pitches after 6ip. The AI put him out there only up 5-3 to start the 7th. I felt this was dumb and pulled him.

I know, not for everyone to do but it drives me nuts too much when the AI leaves the SP in too long, and especially more common is them leaving RP in too long. Kinda tedious but not really. I enjoy the game much more doing it. I wish they could fix the AI bullpen logic but I don't see it ever happening cause it's always been bad.

Series number 2 is in the books for the Braves! We took 2 out 3 from the nationals. We won the first game 3-1. Won the second game 4-1 and lost the third game 2-4. Acuña is maintaining a .416 average, Travis d’Arnaud is hitting .450 and Austin Riley has been a good hitter so far, hitting .318 with 2 home runs.

Overall, the gameplay just feels different a little bit, in a good way. And I’m having a blast even with these broken rosters. I plan on sticking with this roster and going through each team and lowering the amount of A/B prospects.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Finished the four game series at home vs the struggling Phillies.

                    4-0 W (Castillo 2-0; Velasquez 0-3)
                    5-7 L (Mahle 1-2; Wheeler 1-2)
                    3-2 W (Lorenzen 2-1; Moore 0-2; Garrett S,5)
                    4-3 W. (Miley 2-0; Nola 0-2; Garrett S,6)

Moustakas, Saurez, and Votto carrying the team offensively this series. Castellanos had I believe one hit all series. Barnhart was solid, but these three were knocking in every run it seemed.

The Indians with the big move of signing Robert Osunam who immediately step into the closer role. They SP and bullpen is by far their strength. They are 10-7 loo, looking, up at the surprise Royals off to a hot 12-4 start. The Ohio cup will be fun as I look forward to the match up vs Cleveland later in the season.

Meanwhile the Reda are 10-5 a d 2.5 games up on now the Cubs and Brewers, who tie for 2nd with a 8-8 record. Up next for us is a continuing home stand as we host the Giants in a three game series. The Giants wow are 10-6 leading the division. Dodgers sit 4th with a 8-8 record! Craziness going on all over the majors in just two weeks into the season.

One of the most stranger and luckiest wins I will ever see or have in the 2nd game. It was a pitching duel between Sonny Gray and Brandon Woodruff.

Woodruff had a no hitter going and in the 6th inning he walked the bases loaded with two outs. Moustakas comes up and I hit a grand slam for my ONLY hit of the entire game lol. The back end of my bullpen has been really dominate early on this season, so with Gray going 7 innings I was easily able to hold them down for the win.

Moustakas to be fair is my hottest hitter so it was just one of those things. He came into the game leading the team in average, homeruns, and RBIs. He now is hitting. 289 6 HR and 16 RBI to lead the team in all categories.

We took sole possession on the division lead with the series sweep and with a 7-4 record we stay home for a long four game series vs the Phillies. They are struggling early sitting last in the East at 3-9. Remember, Realmuto is on the IL so that will definitely hurt their offense and chances of winning consistently.

                        Cards drop series to Marlins

The Cardinals (3-3) dropped their series with the Marlins in Miami.

The Cardinals won the series opener on Monday 9-6 as the bullpen rescued Kim who struggled in his first outing of the season. Kim gave up 5 earned runs on 10 hits over the course of just 4 innings. The bullpen pitched 5 innings of 2 hit, 1 run ball to help the Cardinals secure the victory. Paul DeJong (3 RBI) and Tyler O'Neill (4 RBI) were a wrecking crew with the bats.

Game 2 saw Miles Mikolas get his first start of the year and he went 6 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, but would earn the loss. The offense just couldn't get the key hit in this game, as the Cards fell 4-3 to the Marlins.

The series finale saw Dakota Hudson get the start in replacement of Jack Flaherty who is currently on the IL. Hudson went 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 9 hits and Ponce de Leon wasn't much better though he did eat up innings to save the pen. The Cardinals fell 8-2 as the again, the bats were silent.

The Cardinals will head home for their home opener in 2021 on Thursday afternoon against the undefeated Brewers (6-0). Adam Wainwright will fittingly get the ball for the home opener, as he tries to bounce back from a rough outing in Cincinnati.

                        Projected starters:

                        Adam Wainwright
                        Carlos Martinez
                        Kwang Hyun Kim

I plan on running a Tigers, Orioles, and Giants Franchise. The reason for the Tiger is obviously due to being a Tigers fan, and the Orioles due to Trey Mancini, and the Giants due to Drew Robinson. I know they're all rebuilding teams, but that's what makes Franchise fun.

I'm just about to ready to go with my 2021 Braves.

Is it sad I've had the game for two days and have yet to actually play a game? I've spent all my time in Franchise getting everything set up. Edited equipment and potentials for my Braves (Ramos and Dean are not top prospects) and made a few balancing fixes for the CPU.

Going to start out on default All-Star/Directional/Classic/Auto. I had a lot of fun with the universal DH last year, but we're back to traditional DH rules this time around. Manfred doesn't exist in my universe, so no runners on second to start extra innings.

Going with the default roster, so my Braves are already a bit different from the real ones. Sandoval, Nate Jones and Adrianza aren't on the 40-man, so I'll have to make some moves in spring training if I decide they belong on the MLB roster. Thinking about bringing both Shane Greene and Tyler Flowers back as well.

The Royals bring an interesting squad into 2021. With the offseason additions of Santana, Benintendi, and Minor, this team may be able to surprise. The Royals will look for a rebound season from slugger Jorge Soler who struggled in the short COVID year after blasting 48 HR’s in 2019. Adding Michael Taylor strengthens the OF defense, and Mondesi and Lopez form one of the best defensive SS/2B duo’s in baseball. Wade Davis is back in KC looking to rediscover some old magic after a rough 3 out of 4 years away.

Competing in the AL Central won’t be easy, with the rising White Sox adding CP Liam Hendriks and SP Lance Lynn. The Twins added SS Andrelton Simmons, and even though the Indians parted with Lindor, Hand, and Carrasco over the offseason, they aren’t going to roll over, its still a competitive squad featuring stars Shane Bieber and Jose Ramirez.

                              Opening Day Preview:
The Royals will kick off their season at Kauffman Stadium with a 3 game set vs the Texas Rangers. KC will send 24 year old Brady Singer to the mound to face the Ranger’s Kyle Gibson.

                              Notes:
Royals Sign RP David Robertson to 1Y 2.8M Deal
The 35 year old Robertson, who was limited by injury to just 6.2 IP last year, will join the KC bullpen for opening day looking to get his career back on track and provide a needed boost to the pen.

                                -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philadelphia came into this game having won only 3 of 10 and reeling. The 7-5 St Louis Cardinals, along with Kwang Hyun Kim came in to pitch a gem. Tyler O'Neil provided the offense with a solo homer in the 2nd while Harrison Bader had 2 diving catches and a web gem robbery at the wall of J.T Realmuto's possible 2 run homerun. It seemed anytime Philly put good wood on the ball, Bader was there to handle it. Zach Efflin was unfortunately paired with the loss after 6 innings, 7 hits and 1 earned.
