Another year
Hey guys so I’m having issues with hitting. I dont know what hitting interface is the best to use. I am using guess pitch. I know its not what ppl used but there a method to my madness. I guess fastball up and if its not there i sit till i get it. I notice i do draw walks but I’m not getting a lot of hits. My pitching is awesome no issues there but hitting is a problem.do you guys have any tips and what interface are you using for hitting.Tags: None -
Re: Another year
My personal preference for all modes:
Wide cam or Show '15 cam
Legend difficulty
Zone hitting
PCI: circles/regular/starfighter
70% opacity
Inner and Outer reticle fade
I play offline modes as well as DD/online ranked and consistently do pretty well. Once you learn to hit with zone on Legend you'll be tough to beat.

Re: Another year
I became a drastically better hitter when I shut guess pitch off. No problems hitting here so far (knocks on wood).Comment

Re: Another year
I’d recommend turning guess pitch off. Because I feel that it’s better for myself to learn to read pitching coming off the hand and deciding in that second if the pitch is hittable or not. But I’m always kind of guessing or anticipating which pitch or location the pitcher will throw it. Same as real life I’d imagine.
My problem is usually missing meatballs because I’m not anticipating balls down the middle. But I think that happens in real life too.Comment

Zone seem like everyone uses cuz it give u variety of hits which i want but my reflex isn’t good. I’m 35 lol. Is there a spot i can just sit on and swing or that not how zone work?

Re: Another year
My advice is find a hitting cam and settings that you are comfortable with and stick with it for a while (a month or 2) switching makes it hard to get use to seeing pitches. Limited your swings to one spot in the zone(break the strike zone into fours) until you get 2 strikes. Once you learn how to cover small parts of the strike zones you can open up to covering 2 zones either look high or low. It’s a process it takes a lot of AB’s and it’s always going to be frustrating it’s baseball baby! If you want to become really good at hitting zone hitting is a must you have more control.Comment

Re: Another year
I think it’s bad because it’s like training wheels so to speak. You can’t train yourself to read the ball out of the pitchers hand and judge for yourself if you should swing for it or not. Back in day when it was introduced I thought it was cool but I eventually turned it off because it wasn’t really like real life. It felt like cheating to me.Last edited by BlueSkies77; 04-18-2021, 02:41 PM.Comment

Re: Another year
Gonna just add my recommendation as everyone else in turning Guess Pitch off. You're doing yourself no favors in only waiting for fastballs middle-high.
The only way you'll start hitting better is if you get better at reading the pitch when it's leaving the pitchers hand, as many in this thread have already pointed out, as well.
So the best option for you right now is to use practice mode. I know most people hate the monotony of practice mode, but now that they've introduced custom practice, it's more useful than it's ever been. I've already used it myself a few times.
You can choose from every pitcher in the opposing teams rotation to bat against, you can choose any batter from your selected team's lineup and bench to bat with, and you can select which pitches in said opposing pitchers arsenal that you want them to throw.
If you want to work on hitting specific locations in the strike-zone, you have the ability to select any and all nine zone locations for the pitcher to throw to. If you leave the strike-zone locations empty, the pitcher will throw as if it were a game situation -- mixing up locations, pitches, as well as throwing outside the strike-zone. And, of course, you have the ability to change any options you want in settings -- including camera views -- to try different settings.
One thing to note when entering practice mode, you start out in pitching mode. Pause the game, choose Practice Type, and simply select Batting to bring up the Pitcher/Batter, Pitch Requests, and Pitch Locations menu. Then press Start/Options to begin.
This will not only help in giving you a stress-free environment to really pay attention to the ball when it's coming out of the pitchers hand, but it will give you the added ability now to choose specific locations, pitches, pitchers, and/or batters you have trouble with.Comment

Re: Another year
I would advise using Dynamic Difficulty and starting on Veteran. Use zone hitting and turn off the PCI and also everything else except the strike zone. Use MLB The Show 15 or wide camera and adjust it so the top of the strike zone matches up with the top of the pitcher cap. Only use a power swing when ahead in the count.
You can pretty much see the pitch without being distracted by guess pitch and all that jazz. You can also judge balls better.Comment

Re: Another year
All these years I have just user the X button to swing (center swing I guess you’d call it). There’s a great variety of hits. I play on AS, default sliders. I never use the power swing button. Has worked for me.Last edited by KnightTemplar; 04-18-2021, 06:10 PM.Comment

I would argue that it is best to start on a difficulty that suits you until it becomes too easy. For me, I hit better on legend than the easier settings because the pitch speed is more natural to expectation of what the pitch speeds should be on different pitches. On Allstar and lower, I swung early on 100mph fastballs. It does me no good to adjust to that and then move the difficulty up.Comment

Re: Another year
Another tactic is you can keep the pci in the middle of the plate, and make small movements to the area where the pitch will end up. Also don't forget to use contact hitting instead of normal as it has a much bigger zone that is covered and timing is more lenient.Comment
