Re: My little brother is this game’s target audience
It's not a franchise mode though so I don't look at it the same way as if I'm trying to build something long term. I should have specified franchise instead of saying "any game in a sports game."
What usually happens is I start a franchise and have to sim games and eventually I just don't finish the season so something like MTO is appealing because at least I'll get to the end of the season.
Better clarification?Last edited by AUChase; 04-19-2021, 11:43 AM.Comment

Re: My little brother is this game’s target audience
The way some on this forum seem to try and diminish the players of the other modes is a little tiring at times. The holier than thou, "we are the real baseball fans" gets annoying.
It would be like the Out of The Park Baseball gamers dismissing the players of The Show's franchise mode because they apparently prefer the pretty graphics over the franchise depth of OOTP.
I'm 56 years old. I was in the stands the day Lou Brock broke the single season stolen base record. I still have (somewhere) playoff ticket stubs from the '82 playoffs. And I have only played DD and RTTS in '21 so far.
Come down off your pedestals and realize that the mode a person chooses to play in this game does not define them as children, or "not real baseball fans".Comment

Re: My little brother is this game’s target audience
lotta people care about not only Lou Brock, but even still, the likes of Bob Gibson, Ozzie Smith, Stan Musial, hundred of others. enough so that the developers think they are important enough and still relevant to be included as integral part of Diamond Dynasty
baseball is meant to be played 9 innings.
You guys are insulting OP when much of you are in the sams boat. You guys are unicorns this games target audience has a low attention span and is hooked to DD.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Hey, way to completely ignore the point of my post to simply say that, as a baseball "purist", you don't care about hall of fame players.Comment

Re: My little brother is this game’s target audience
The point is that those who want shorter/faster games are ruining it for those that want full 9 inning simulation type games. I’m all for people being able to play how they want with different modes. But obviously Sony is catering to the impatient masses.
I hope some day in the not so distant future that big publisher will green light their own triple A MLB game. I don’t even care if it’s EA. SDS seriously needs competition to keep them on their toes and not get even more greedy.Comment

But you’d be an absolute fool to assume DD didn’t change the direction of this franchise forever. Now whether that change is for the positive or not is up to the individual player to decide.
Most franchise guys are just fed up. A lot of us have stuck with this series year after year. Me personally since ‘06. And we have been completely left out to pasture as if we don’t matter.
The difference is I stopped caring last year and have just accepted it for what it isComment

Re: My little brother is this game’s target audience
I think The Show offers a comprehensive suite of modes to allow players of all shapes and sizes to enjoy playing a great baseball game.
My gripes this cycle have nothing to do with March To October, or Diamond Dynasty.
Now let’s not pretend that Diamond Dynasty is not the primary focus of development in this game.....it is. Road to the Show has been vastly changed in terms of allowing you to play the mode traditionally which has been an offline single player career mode and now it has been merged/married or whatever you want to call it into my ballplayer which is used online in DD.
So there are some very unhappy folks with the design direction a beloved mode and arguably the most popular mode this game ever has had has taken a turn for the worse not better.
It is well known I play offline franchise and love the gameplay every year. Franchise mode for me has always been very solid.
But two things were taken away and SDS still has not explained nor committed to any of it returning.
Y2Y and SOTS (on next gen consoles).
I do not blame anyone that plays the game the way they love to.
I blame the trends and demographics in gaming for the lack of focus on the mode I enjoy and I still have not gotten a clear answer from anyone why they removed two HUGE key franchise features from the game. Actually make that 3 features (roster importing vaporized a decade worth of classic rosters).
That is incredibly disappointing and not typical of this studio.
I also do not like the condescending viewpoints of some so-called hardcore franchise players.
Everyone enjoys the game the way they want. But when features that are critical to your enjoyment are removed without hearing reasons???
We have every right to question it and be upset about it without getting snarky responses from elitist posters here or trolls.
The forum here is not what it once used to be.
My 2 cents.

I agree completely with you on the part that we shouldn’t throw insults or dismiss the feelings of people who play other modes.

I understand the love of franchise mode here. I am not so blind to see that the mode has received little attention in comparison to the other modes. I understand the frustration.
I was simply saying that some of the posters here, and I did not name names, want to dismiss every DD and RTTS player as some type of lesser baseball fan or that they are a child with a short attention span, simply because their definition of a fun baseball video game does not include franchise.Last edited by Dolenz; 04-19-2021, 01:57 PM.Comment

Re: My little brother is this game’s target audience
A little time looking outside of OS might not be a bad idea sometimes too though. Helps to get a different perspective sometimes.
There’s room for all different play styles. Now, whether or not the devs do enough to touch each of those groups is debatable (and we know how that would go here, haha) but I’m all for the options being there for people to play as they choose.

You'll have to point me to the part of my post where I was being foolish and stated that DD has not impacted the other modes.

I'll simply never understand the mentality of these companies.
They're eating 2/3 of their favorite meal... Robbing a bank, and only taking half the money.
I understand why they gravitate toward the pay-to-play modes. No need to explain it. Without a ton of effort, they could satisfy a portion of their audience that they have deliberately alienated. They practically go out of their way not to.You want free speech?

Re: My little brother is this game’s target audience
Love it or hate it, DD is VERY well done. It's slick, and shows a love of baseball.
Also, unlike EA and other companies that do modes like this, SDS has consistently made it easier to unlock things without spending money.
And this coming from a Franchise guy who's furious that RTTS was completed nerfed and Franchise basically untouched. (Love the depth chart and jury's still out on the new trade logic, but other than that it's the same thing.)Comment
