Yeah , I mean the things in this post are probably true.

But gameplay is the most important thing to me and I love actually playing games in The Show.

I remember not liking the hitting or pitching mechanics in 2k.

They never felt right and remember there being an overabundance of meatballs and homers.

But it's been basically a decade since I played it.

But I really don't remember it being well received so I was surprised to see people thinking back on it fondly.

I feel the same way when people bring up the ETX NASCAR games that everyone trashed for being broken and buggy at the time now say they prefer them over Heat 4.

I absolutely agree that I miss the days of competing major franchises for every sport. Competition definitely drove innovation which is sorely lacking in the stagnant franchises that are left standing.

Re: Compare And Contrast: Things MLB 2K13 still does better

A lot has already been said but here's my 2 cents :

I have played the mlb 2k series upto the final version.
I think they did indeed do some things better.

Presentation is without a doubt - for me - the nr 1 thing they did better.
Another thing was the colors. They had a lot more pop and were more vibrant than the show....back then.
Now the show has fixed the colors, commentary however is still very stale.

Another thing i like was the gesture pitching from 2k. At that time the show did not have it, and on top of this the show's pitching motions were not that good. You could see the ball morphing from the pitchers hand, like it was missing a couple of frames.

I also liked that 2k had the play now games, which matched the actual scheduled mlb games of the day. The show did not have this at that point.

But : 2k games felt at some points very unfinished / rushed. The gameplay in the show was to me a lot better, which was a shame cause 2k did a lot of things very well.

You can see in today's the show that they took a lot of things from 2k, that's why competition is a good thing.

But as said, for me the Show improved on a lot of things making it a great game.
I'm just sticking to '20 even though i have a ps5 due to the fact that they deleted y2y saves and have limited sounds of the show.
I will be happily playing '20 on the ps5 with all the great classic rosters.

2K gameplay was pretty brutal besides the pitching. That said their presentations were far superior. In the end though we can all agree the more the merrier. There needs to be competition. I recall leaving a store with mvp,2k and all star baseball and the guy looking at me sideways at the counter haha

The most nostalgic about this thread is how it brings me back to remembering how close minded some folks on this forum can be in regards to other baseball games.
Just because you enjoyed doesn't make your opinion fact. I for one have never played the show till this year so my comment wasn't a diss to the Show. I fondly remember 2K baseball for what it was and it died a slow and terrible death its last few years with gameplay glitches that made the game unbearable to play. Since that last year I was baseball-less on my Xbox.

Thank you! The person that you are referring to is one of those folks who would latch onto a game and bash the others without every playing them. The use of the word trash says it all about that mindset. It's edgy to call something trash nowadays. I guess they get cool points from the internet.

So then you feel everything on the OP's list is "unbearable" or "trash"? I find that hard to believe is all. I understand not enjoying the game as a whole. I personally never played it again either once I got a PS3 in 2012, but the point of this thread is to try to glean the few things that 2K actually did pretty well in hopes they could someday be added to The Show. Just saying something like "the entire gameplay was unplayable trash" doesn't add any sort of value to this thread and also makes a person seem rather close-minded towards progress.

It's sort of like dismissing an entire restaurant because you found one you liked better, when in reality the one you dismissed had a few hidden gems on the menu that would make your favorite restaurant even better if they were added to their menu and then they even elevated those items to the next level.

The Show used to do that quite often with various features from 2K (real time presentation, analog controls, Live rosters, custom cameras, Player Lock, more fluid pitching deliveries and pitch breaks, etc), but unfortunately the competition disappeared. Thankfully we're seeing some of that feature elevation come back with Pinpoint Pitching and Stadium Creator this year.

Don't forget. 2k6 had the world baseball classic.

I've played hundreds of games of 2k13, and unless you can cite the unbearable gameplay glitches in the game, I call bunk. I've already ran into many in The Show 21, such as crashes where the game just stops progressing and everyone stands around, and I've had to close the game out and restart it. Annoying? Yes. Unbearable trash? No.

Oh man...I was getting sort of grumpy going through this thread, and this absolutely made me smile.

I'll never understand why people argue about the nostalgia of others.

I'm a 41 year old guy who works in law. I save the bigly words for clients. Would you like me to use more formal synonyms that cater to your dialect?

I can break it down for you as best as my memory allows.

One thing I can remember is once you get a good grip with pin point pitching, you can pretty much master the mound. The only time you'd have trouble is in tight spots when the ball cursor jumps all over the place. I had to create house rules to get walks. Even then, I decimated foes with my #1 and 2 pitchers out of my lineups. One thing that did feel good with 2K was the disparity in pitchers. Put in a weak reliever and watch him get lit up.

Hit location was sparse. Outfielders were jogging. Teams didn't feel much different from one another in user controlled games. Graphical glitches that made fielders behave all sorts of weird ways. Bugs messed up stats as well. Exact replica of 2K12, menus and all.

If you loved 2K13, more power to you. That was the last MLB baseball game I had the chance to play and it was ruined by 2K. I stuck to an older version for my fix for years. (2K11 maybe?) I've never played the Show till this year so I cant comment on previous versions.

all pretty good games, too. High Heat's franchise mode, All Star Baseball's realism, etc..a good time for baseball gaming. MVP goes unsaid.
