I finally decided on a team. Started with Minnesota on Thursday. Simmed the first 10 games and played 1 game from every series then on. I just finished May and am having a blast. Found some decent sliders for my skill level and ridins rosters with a few tweaks to potentials as I heard they increase pretty drastically down the line. Battling it out with The White Sox for the division. This Tiwns team can rake. but if it isn't a homerun we aren't scoring because aside from Buxton they're SLOW and OLD. Don't think we have a WS team as anytime I come up against Chicago or another top team we end up on the losing end, usually because of my 3-5 starting pitching. Having fun though as Cruz has 12 Homeruns, Buxton 6, Sano 8 and Josh Donaldson 11. the rest of the team maybe 10 as a group though. Will get through this season and then the real strategy begins. Do we keep the aging vets around, will they retire? I have 2 or 3 decent prospects in Kiriloff and Lewis but besides them....leaves little to be desired. So many ways I can go with this team. Haven't been this excited for a franchise run through in years.

I'm semi fictional myself. Take a team a relocate, change the uniforms, sell off most of the existing players and wipe the slate clean. Build it all from scratch. Man the first year of that franchise is rough.....but its all mine and when it starts winning its pretty satisfying.

Re: For the indecisive franchise guy
Waiting on TrueSim to release their rosters & pondering who I will take for 2021. I usually am pretty quick to deciding, but this year, I'm having some issues.
Yankees - Gold standard of baseball, but just can't put it all together. They've been "talented" for what, four years now? G Cole is the only arm in the rotation you can consistently trust, but evident by Kluber's no-no...there's talent. I like the idea of bringing up Delvi and Clarke if the rotation struggles... On the lineup side, not a single starter is trustworthy to make it 150+ games, meaning depth (which has decreased), will be questioned again. Couple this with a surging Toronto, dangerous Rays, and surprise Boston, and it's not the same AL East as it has been.
Astros - The 'Stros are the team everyone wants to lose (including me to a degree) and taking the enemy is sometimes fun. I don't see why people count this roster out after last year's woes in the reg season...they nearly went the the World Series... There's a chance their rotation gets Verlander back as well, which means you have two Cy Young caliber pitchers at the top, McCullers, Pressly, and a plethora of great bats that can easily lead the league in AVG, HR, and RBI. The A's are really the only team standing in Houston's way of another long post-season run.
Brewers - The Brew Crew are an easy team to understand as it's easy to identify who their quality players are & are not. Yelich is due for a comeback, Hader is great, Woodruff and Burnes are All-Star caliber, and Kolten Wong is a fantastic addition. The Cards, Cubs, and Reds, will be tough outs in the Central, but Milwaukee seems to get it done year after year. Turang is a good prospect to take over SS and they have a good OF prospect as well who could come up in a few years. There are holes, but it's a high ceiling low floor team.
Athletics - This was the team I thought I wanted to use, but this roster scares me. It scares me because if Chapman or Olson get injured, this lineup looks very iffy very fast. The rotation is suspect as well since literally every one of their starters can be 2.50 or 5.00 ERA type guys, but they do have a great bullpen to back it up. Defense in Oakland is probably the best in the AL, if not the MLB (sorry Cardinals)... I am still considering these guys.

It would be nice to know if year to year saves were coming back in 2022 so I could decide if I am playing for this year or the next couple.Comment

Astros If there was real life booing in this game, the Stros would be kind of fun. I've always wanted to play with Verlander, but was never a Tigers or Astros fan, so I just haven't really ever got to that point. If you play with some sort of "No top 15 free agents will sign here for X number of years..." house rule, it could be a fun 'Chise.
Brewers If they fixed the infield dirt in Milwaukee (I think they said they did in 21? I'm still playing 20, so it's a big no for me), then this would be a friggin' fun franchise to role with. Yelich, a rotation that is extremely solid on the top end, some fun role players through the lineup, and a horrible division would be interesting. Plus, the farm is absolutely bottom 7 or 8 in baseball, so trying to build that, stay on a strict-ish budget and improve the roster would be a ton of fun.
Athletics You're 100% right. I feel like it'd be kind of fun to relocate the A's and build a new stadium, but I also kind of like the fact that O-Co (Or whatever it's called now), is kind of a barren wasteland. Watching Puasson develop would be solid as well.2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

Re: For the indecisive franchise guy
Firstly, I just want to say thank you for everything in this thread. I’ve been a long time reader of the site and finally felt compelled to join. I feel like franchise players in all games are a dying breed. On top of that, being an Xbox player this is my first baseball game since 2k12 and I’m enjoying my experience with it but still feeling overwhelmed by the game as whole because everything seems so new and I’ve been playing a lot of Diamond Dynasty and kind of surprised by how fun its been with no money spent (comparatively to other games where its clear you need to really spend money to compete).
That said, I think I’m getting ready to start my franchise and you have all given me some good ideas. I really liked the house rules a few posts back because I definitely feel like its going to be too easy to out smart the CPU trade wise.
Im thinking of playing with my Cubs to start. They’re just my team. I think it might be interesting to see what could happen if I can keep the core together (which is sadly evident that it wont be happening in real life). Or maybe I can keep Baez and Rizzo but lose Bryant to free agency because of the season he is having. Maybe trade him at the deadline and try to spend a couple years beefing the farm back up to make another run.
I’ve also really considered the Blue Jays as others have mentioned cuz their young core is insanely exciting. I typically like a rebuild but it feels like a middle of the road team may be the way to go?Comment

Why don't you use 30 team control, then you'll be able to play any game you want with any team you want.YouTube: MLB The Show 21 Atlanta Braves FranchiseComment

Re: For the indecisive franchise guy
What are you looking for out of a franchise? Set yourself some parameters so that you don't feel like you've completed everything before you even start playing. Say you're looking to do a rebuild w/ the Rockies or someone along those lines. Give yourself a house rule of "I won't trade Story (or Marquez, or anyone who has solid value) until the trade deadline". I get that house rules are definitely not for everyone, and I'm pretty excessive with mine, but it's kept me a lot more in line with the realism that I need to keep me engaged throughout.
Or, as @knucklecutter says, roll with 30 team control and play with a few different teams at the same time.2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

Re: For the indecisive franchise guy
I'm a Reds fan but they frustrate me year in and year out. Also a big fan of younger teams so I started one with Tampa (had restarted numerous times). So far it's really fun and the amount of young talent they have in waiting is insane.Comment

Re: For the indecisive franchise guy
I'm like a lot of people in here where I've only had xbox so haven't played in a while. I'm doing my franchise with the Phillies and I've seen almost no one even suggest playing with them. I knew I wanted an NL team for the extra strategy involved and wanted a team that could possibly contend and as it stands I'm 44-44 almost to the All Star break so my possibly contend couldn't be anymore spot on.
I also try to use house rules to make it more realistic. I'm not sure what I should do at the trade deadline yet because I don't have a great farm system to try and go for it with trades and don't have all that great pieces to trade to get a better farm system. The bullpen has been my letdown this year. But it's been a lot of fun playing with Bryce Harper.Comment

Re: For the indecisive franchise guy
Was well into a Twin franchise but was a bit too easy to hit with them. Been off the PS5 for 3 weeks, busy with life. Looking to jump back in but contemplating a restart with either Philly (although think its time to rebuild) and getting them back to the playoffs after a decade. Could also try to compete with Milwaukee who doesn't get a lot of love but using Yelich and having a middle of the road team could be fun in a winnable division.Sacramento Kings San Diego Padres Dallas Cowboys Liverpool FC
