Signing free agents in franchise mode

I find the rosters in the MLB the Show very irritating. Is there a way to sign free agents in FM without having the release an MLB player? I can’t sign them to a minor league deal? Feel like I’m doing something wrong.

I'm assuming you have a full roster and that's the reason its making you drop someone. So, its pretty easy just drop a player(s) on your roster that you don't want.

I haven’t found a way.

What’s he saying is, anytime you sign a free agent, it assigns them to your 40 man roster. So if you sign a prospect that you want to develop you still have to DFA someone or cut them to clear a spot.

Oh okay. Got it. I think it depends on the player. Not every FA goes right to your 40 man roster. If I'm not mistaken......but yeah it would be nice if you could designate where you want them to be placed.

There is a way. Go to Free Agents, d pad over to the right and then hit r1 to scroll through MLB, AAA, AA etc and then d pad back over to the left to the free agent you want to sign. Whatever level you have it on on the right that player will be assigned there.

it is very irritating having to deal with 90 players, really miss season mode.

I don't give a rats about the minor leagues at all, such a waste of time. I know some enjoy it but it's a big meh to a lot of us too. Just wish there was options to eliminate them in franchise and just have a prospect list of some kind

Ok well this thread is clearly about franchise mode where the minors are important so not sure what point you’re even making. Eliminate the minors? What?

Yes! Thank you. Now I can sign Cole Hammels to a AA contract.

I’m on Xbox, so I’m not familiar with the Show but never thought of using the d pad.

what I started doing in 18 was just overwrite the Double A & Single A players with blanked out generic players (all attribute ratings set at 25 across the board, even age) in a roster file, then use that roster to start up a season play.
back in 2018 I was really miffed at the Studio for pulling the plug on season mode but once I started playing this way I found it more enjoyable than the old season mode because I can play AAA games now with 50 man rosters whereas with 40 man rosters in the traditional season mode I could not.
I haven't missed season mode since.

it's specifically about free agents in franchise mode but since season mode was removed in 18 some of us have been forced to bastardize franchise into a makeshift proxy season mode
