I'm 45 and my first baseball games were Baseball on Atari 2600 and Micro League Baseball on the PC. Micro League also taught me about the best teams in baseball history, even though you didn't really "play" in the true sense. Major League Baseball and RBI are a ton of hours in grade school (I'm from the same town and high school as Don Mattingly, so I'd always choose his team). Baseball Stars let me create my Little League team at home (and was impossible to find forever). I had Sports Talk Baseball on the Genesis, which was awesome at the time. World Series Baseball came and stole my heart for several years. I was never a fan of EA"s games until the final MVP, which was amazing. Other than the Show, I played High Heat on my PC for several years. It was the best PC baseball game I'd played since Hardball. Baseball is my favorite sport, and I've played a lot of great (an awful) games.Comment

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
I've seen some surprise about the bulk of the votes coming from people in their forties, but I'm not. If you were born in the mid-70's like I was, that means your formative grade school years were during the golden age of video arcades, and also the the first generation to grow up with video games. And it seems like a lot of us never "grew up" and started dismissing consoles as toys. It's just like any other hobby or personal entertainment.
As long as I'm here, I forgot to mention the Game Boy baseball titles that bided my time while waiting for those damn NES Baseball Simulator 1.000 sim games to play out (ugh)... I got a GB near launch and played the stock Baseball seemingly forever until more stuff came out. Eventually got Roger Clemens MVP Baseball and it's unique fielding perspective. I remember how the fake Matt Williams had an anemic batting average and huge power, yet I never hit a home run with him (the fake names used in that game is another thread altogether). But my go-to was Extra Bases, which was basically RBI Baseball/Family Stadium in a smeary green portable form. Always wished that there was a GB version of BS1.000, though. When the Giants come to town, it's Bye Bye Baby...Comment

49. Been an avid gamer of pretty much sports titles only since my early teens from the Atari days, moving on to Intellivision, and so on...If you keep bowing down and praising the developers, (NHL series) nothing they give us the consumer will ever be a "finished" product. Take a stand, it is your money!!!.Comment

I am 62, I was a hard core gamer for years, played everything I could get my hands on but now that I'm older I just play sports games. Didn't think I would be playing the show but now that it's on the Xbox I have been playing it.Comment

For me, the games seemed to evolve as I was ready for them to for much of that time. The Atari was the big thing when I was really young. And then the NES when I was in grade school, the SNES when I was in high school, the Playstation when I was in college, the PS2 when I was a young adult, and then the PS3 came out the year that I got married. Each step of the way, games got better/deeper/more adult as I was ready. Its been a cool experience, and one that not every other age group got to see the same way. I think that's part of the reason that we didn't "grow up" the same way that our predecessors did, and I also think its why we seem to take games more seriously than the younger generation largely does.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
43 yrs old. Been a playing games since Atari but my real start was the NES in the late 80’s. As for baseball games. I played RBI and Bases Loaded. Bases Loaded, My brother and I would get into fight because he would always plunk Oko for Philly and Oko would charge the mound and get tossed. I would do damage with Oko at the plate and my bro wanted none of that.
My side passion baseball game was Baseball Stars on NES. I created so many teams and leagues in that game. My own little baseball universe. Though, I still this day never threw better than a 5-hitter in that game. It would drive me crazy. To throw a 4-hitter was like having a perfect game for me… sadly it never happened.Comment

I'm 45 and my love of baseball came from my dad. Growing up in North Carolina, you had regional sports on tv and the Braves were the closest so they have always been my favorite team...and Dale Murphy will always and forever be my favorite baseball player/professional athlete period!
As for gaming, my first baseball game experience was on the Atari 2600. I'm a lifer lol!"Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

I've lived in the PNW my entire life. My baseball nostalgia is every bit as strong from Glavine, Smoltz, Gant, Pendleton, Bobby Cox, Leo Mazzone, as it is for Junior, Edgar and the Big Unit.
The run the 1995 Mariners went on is indescribable, for more reasons than I can list here.. but that 1991 Braves team is right there with them. All the way through that World Series. Similar to the Bills losing all those Super Bowls, its fun to think about how much different things could have been if they had just won their first. You want free speech?
Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.Comment

Its funny, thanks to TBS, the Braves became a national team of sorts.

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
I’m 25. The first MLB game I played was MVP Baseball 2004, and I’ve played every EA and Sony baseball game after that. I think my playstyle preferences are generally thought of for older people, though: I don’t do any online play; I’m an offline Franchise player. If I were a little younger and started later, I might be one of those players consumed by Diamond Dynasty, and who knows how much extra money I would have wasted?Comment

38. First year playing a baseball video game since Ken Griffey was playing for the Mariners. Maybe 98 or so. Bought a Xbox one S last year and downloaded the Show 21. Absolutely amazed at the realistic graphics, gameplay, etc. Will be buying this game annually.Last edited by damion2721; 10-22-2021, 04:20 PM.Comment
