somewhere, there's a 14 year old who's been playing baseball video games practically his whole life, which probably pretty much consist of mostly, or more likely only, MLB the Show lolOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Can't believe less than 1% of people here are 21 and under. I guess modern teens don't go on message boards/forums. I was always on message boards as a teen in the 2000s.Comment

As a parent of two teenagers, they do every thing in 30-second blasts. My son follows a few MLBTS things on TikTok and my daughter is an avid viewer of BookTok. Thankfully my son loves going to games and my daughter likes to read novels lolComment

I would assume Reddit and Discord are where more of them go.

36. I first played RBI on the NES all the while I saw my father play Micro League Baseball and keep his own stats on his hideous green/yellow and black computer screen. Other notable titles growing up are Sierra Front Page Sports: Baseball Pro 96/98 (in two active leagues currently!), ASB series was a favorite and ESPN Baseball before jumping to MVP baseball 2003-2005 and finally the MLB 989 series and MLB The Show until now. Dabbled a bit in OOTP but being tied to a computer was always an issue.

49 here. I remember playing "Baseball" on the old Atari 2600 with my dad. I moved on to Micro League Baseball and kept my stats in a notebook. Moved on to RBI Baseball and Baseball Starts on the NES. Then Tony LaRussa baseball(both on the Genesis and the more complex PC version). Also played a lot of High Heat Baseball on the PC and Front Page Sports Baseball 98 and then moved to MLB The Show 06 on the PS2. Have bought every version of the Show since 06 until this past season. I'm still playing my franchise on The Show 20 on the PS4 and am waiting to hear if there any additions to Franchise Mode before I decide to by The Show 22. If PS5 or XBox Series X ever becomes easier to find, I'll eventually get one of them and get the latest Show but until then, unless there are some good improvements to Franchise Mode this year, I'll stick with 20. Oh and Manage Only Mode for me all the way. Love the strategic side of the game. I know there aren't that many of us MOM players and we don't get much love from SDS but I love this mode.Last edited by triplela; 02-07-2022, 09:52 AM.Comment

Geez...51 here...My first baseball game was the hand held Mattel Electronics...I don't know if that one counts[emoji51]...then a school mate lent me a cartridge for the Atari 2600, I don't remember the name of the game...that one I could't figure it out...then I shut down gaming decades until the PS2, and got back with MVP 2003, 2004 and the greatest 2005, that one I got it for PC also and enjoyed a lot of historical mods...then in 2007 I shut down gaming again until The Show 2013 on PS3, been buying every year edition until 2021...man it's now a whole generation of 'Dad Gamers'...my OS membership it's now like 18-20 years old[emoji33]

Early 50s gamer here
First game was Hardball on my dad’s C64[emoji817] in my teen years
Not much gaming until my late 20s…
VR Baseball 2000 on PC, loved that game!
Then over to console gaming in the early 2000s:
ASB 03
MLB 2K3-7 (sans 05, played MVP 2005)
First time I played/owned The Show 2008
Played The Show yearly until ‘17 then a 5 year hiatus
Just played Tech Test last week on PS5…. Wow…..vast improvements since ‘17 (most of which im sure is next-gen related)

same age range. I was practically weaned on video games from their birth and played heavily until I graduated school. I spent the next ten years out of the loop video game wise until Madden 99 and Metal Gear Solid
and the original PlayStation 1 sucked me back in. by that time I had a son of my own and video games were a great way to bond
Might help to view current gaming from that perspective.Comment

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
What a fun thread, and as a longtime member of OS but mostly a lurker, this definitely felt like one to chime in on. I am 42.
Lifelong Marylander here so the Orioles are my bread and butter. All my baseball game love has been tied all them, and that's the only team I ever play as.
It all started back on the NES with the simple Major League Baseball. (Also had the Game Boy version just titled "Baseball", which was basically a port) But I HAVE to mention BaseWars as well, since that game was such a goofy blast and I was willing to gobble up anything baseball-related.
The SNES came along and I graduated to Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball, and what a fun cartoony game that was. That was the fun arcade game I played, but when I wanted more simulation-style, I also had Tecmo Super Baseball since I had the correct players. (Was always sad that Cal Ripken's game was not good.) My friend was a Genesis guy, so I got exposed to Triple Play 97 thanks to him and would play it whenever I was at his house.
I was one of the select few (and definitely the only one of my friends group) to jump on the Sega Saturn train, so World Series Baseball 1 and 2 became my go-tos. I got a ton of mileage out of WSB2, and didn't like 98 as much.
When the Saturn slowly became irrelevant, I had to migrate to the PlayStation, and that's where I found MVP 2004 and 2005. My life changed, and I got so much from those games, and eventually stumbled upon this forum as a way to keep the games alive with updated rosters since I never was interested in MVP 06 with the college teams. I also dabbled with the 2K series (mainly because voice of the Orioles at the time was Gary Thorne, so it was fun to hear him on the game), as well as the silly Slugfest as a way to fill the gap.
And while that lasted me a couple years, I finally bit the bullet and got MLB 07 The Show to try it out. And then I never looked back. Been buying the Show every year since, and always got the next system when it made the jump.
Every year I would play Franchise and take my up-to-date Orioles (and I updated during the year thanks to OS) through that year's season, and somehow always managed to do better than the real-life team, except when they finally got good during the Showalter years and then real-life outpaced me for once! (Definitely been a comedown the last few years in real life, but I've still managed to somehow get the Orioles to way better records in the game)
Oh, and since people are asking, I use Directional Hitting and have since day one (could never get Zone right, and once they came up with new ones I was too locked in with what I'd been doing for years) and while I started as a Meter pitcher, I have to say that I fully converted to Pulse pitching when they rolled it out and my pitching has improved by leaps and bounds, pretty impressive since the Os are never really known for that recently.
This also may now be my longest post ever here. I will say, the golden era for me was those 15-18 games, coinciding with the best Orioles talent years as well as my complete immersion with Sounds of the Show, which I greatly miss now because I took the time to make sure every team I could manage in the AL had their right music and sounds. That is my biggest critique since the game moved on from Sony exclusive. But I guess you can't have everything, and as others have said, comparing it to what games we had in the past, the Show is still the absolute best.Comment
