Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?

    42

I've been gaming since the 80's, and RealSports Baseball (played it on the Atari 7800 - backwards compatibility fan even back then, lol) was my first baseball game, but the game from my childhood I remember spending the most time with was the original Bases Loaded on the NES.

As for MLB The Show, I've owned a version of the game each year dating back to 08; in many cases I had a handheld (PSP, Vita) and console version of the game. Still remember how bummed I was when they discontinued the Vita versions after MLB 15.

if I'm blessed to live to be ninety and I still have my eyesight and faculties, I still plan on playing video games in general, and baseball video games in particular. (this would be around the year 2060)

I've been playing video games since the days of Pong in the seventies so they are pretty much ingrained into me, except for the period of 1990-1997, when I didn't play any video games (I was busy ''finding myself'' lol)

so, as they say, you can have my controller when you pry it from my old cold dead hands

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?

        I'm 44, almost 45.

First game I remember playing, is Baseball on the Atari 2600, though I don't remember much about that game. When I got the NES, one of the first games I got for it was Major League Baseball (along with Ice Hockey)

However, the first game I played religiously, was Bases Loaded for the NES. I got that game in 1988 or 89, and played it religiously. To the point I would keep score/stats of the games I played. I still incorporate some pf the fictional players from that game into my "Show" frahchises.

I tried pretty much every baseball game on the NES, but kept going back to Bases Loaded, because of the gameplay.

That was, until Ken Griffey Jr Presents Major League Baseball came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994. That became my favorite game. Even through the days of the original Playstation, I would constantly go back to that game for my baseball fix. I tried every game for the Playstation, and Genesis, and SNES, and none seemed to captivate me like that game did.

Once I got the PS2, I became a fan of the Triple Play/MVP series. But, I still struggled to get through an entire season before losing interest in the game.

Then I found the All Star Baseball series. And I was captivated again.

My first experience with MLB The Show, was MLB the Show 06. I basically got it out of necessity, as the previous year's MVP 05 was the last in that series, and I needed my baseball fix.

I was hooked. From that point on, It has been nothing but MLB the Show for my baseball fix.

I started on PONG too. I was five years old, and my next door neighbor gave my family the set that her teenage son didn't want anymore. I remember how absolutely awesome I thought that it was, and how I immediately understood it as kids do.

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?

It's really fun reading all these messages.
            As said i'm almost 52.

I started playing real life baseball when i was 7 years old.
In the Netherlands baseball is not a big sport, but back then it was almost non-existant.
Those days it was not on tv, magazines or anything else. So the only way you got to know baseball is hearing about it from friends, which was what happened to me.
My best buddies' father played baseball, so when i announced that i was going to play soccer he simply said : no way, first you will go with me to try out baseball........the rest is history.
Still playing it on an oldies team, with the same guys i played with when i was 20. We are not that fast anymore, but fortunately baseball is a game where technique and experience matters, so we are still able to beat younger teams, especially since we have some very smart pitchers and catchers.

Anyway, regarding baseball games i have played a lot of them, all the way back to the atari.
The only problem was getting them in the Netherlands.
I remember on all the boxes and posters / promotion material you would see screen shots of baseball games.
But since the sport was not big most stores did not sell baseball games.
This meant you had to go to a story that was specialized in games and import.
Since there was no internet you depended on them.
And when you finally imported a game, it was only to find out it did not work due to the PAL / NTSC difference.
It would not work at all / or it would work in black and white only / or you would buy and adapter.
These were the dark ages, but somehow we managed.

I'm still playing baseball games mostly. Just haven't bought '21 due to the fact that year to year saves was deleted.
This means no classic rosters which is a not an option for me.
Still happily playing '20 on my ps5 and loving it.

            Sorry for the long post

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?

This is a cool thread! I am 43...

...and I am totally new to MLB the Show! I am actually not even a baseball fan. I am a complete basketball junkie. But baseball was the first sport that I actually liked as a kid. The peak of my baseball interest was 1988-1991 (with that Mets team, A's and Dodgers, etc (I just felt like I knew more of the stars back then). Since then I've become much more of a casual observer (if even that). But growing up, I've always found baseball games to be more fun than most other sports video games (especially when playing with my younger brother). I remember baseball being my favorite video game on the atari 2600 and NES.

As a long time Xbox-er, admittedly I have always been a little envious of PlayStation owners because of the praise given to MLB the Show over the years. The last baseball game I've ever played was MVP 2005 for the xbox (the hype was just too strong to resist back then). And that game still remains in my top 5 sports video games of all time.

Ironically enough, with MLB the Show finally coming to the xbox this year, I just purchased a PS4 a few months back and decided to finally see what all the hype was about with this series and decided to purchase MLB the Show 20 (I just felt there was no need for me to spend the extra money on 21 because I don't follow baseball anymore and I have no idea who's who in baseball these days). Being so frustrated with Madden 21 and NBA 2k21 (and the last few years of 2k actually), believe me when I say MLB the Show 20 has completely taken over my video gaming time! I am really having fun with this title. All the hype and praise is well deserved and it's kind of caused me to pay a little bit more attention to real baseball again lol.

I do miss liking baseball as much as I used to and I have to join in on the praise given to MLB the Show for doing the best job of replicating their sport better than any of the other sports video games do with their respective sport.
                        "Basketball is my favorite sport
I like the way they dribble up and down the court
Just like I'm the King on the microphone so is Dr. J and Moses Malone"

In the Show 19 vault there is a killer Bases Loaded full 90 man roster which has all the players from Bases Loaded 1-3.

You can DL that roster and import it to MLB 20!

I'm surprised only 10% are under 27. It seems the emphasis for the game features is toward the younger crowd.

Maybe that's more of a reflection of the age of people posting on this forum?
