Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
Going to be 54 this JUNE 5th.
I've only been playing MLBTS since Show 19. Last year was my FIRST gaming console in a LONG time.
Only other one I can remember is playing SPACE INVADERS on the Atari system.I am the way
I am the light
I am the dark inside the night.
I hear your hopes
I feel your dreams
And in the dark I hear your screams
Don't turn away, Just take my hand
I'll never leave, All I ask of you, Is Believe.
Believe

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
I'll be 43 this October.
I grew up on Atari 2600 as Baseball was my first baseball game. I remember my brother and I playing, and I only knew how to control the catcher so he fielded everything. Thankfully the field wasn't that big.
I remember my brother and I creating real life teams on Baseball Stars for the NES. Such a great game wasting summers on.
I am a collector of video games, especially baseball video games. Bases Loaded series, RBI series, All-Star Baseball series, High Heat series, MVP series and now MLB The Show series. Of course I had the ones that weren't a "series"; Tony LaRussa, Tommy Lasorda, Hardball, Baseball Simulator 2000 (space field), Sportstalk Baseball on Genesis, and everything else.
Some know, or may not, but my love from baseball stemmed from my Grandpa. He played in the minor league organization of the Cardinals back in the day and at the time, Louisville was the Louisville Redbirds, so my being a Cardinals fan was sort of a given.
I played the game from T-Ball all the way thru college, but that is where my career ended. Now I help coach my 5 year old son in Little League and he has the same passion for the game as his old man, and like his old man, he's a Cardinals fan, because well he didn't have a choice.I hope he continues to enjoy it as much as I do as a fan, but as his Dad it really doesn't matter. He's also a fan of golf and I like that sport as well.
So many Spring, Summer, and yes fall nights spent at the ballpark. Its my sanctuary so to speak. The dirt, the grass, the crack of the bat (aluminum or wood), the pop of the glove and the smells of the concession stand. Its the best sport, in my opinion of course, and when the season ends, I anxiously await the next season to begin.
The game has brought me many memories, family bonding nights, and some of my dearest friends. No matter the ups and downs of life, baseball has always been a constant in some form or fashion. And I expect for however more trips around the sun I have, it will continue to be there as either an escape or guilty pleasure.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
I was wondering how much of a reflection these results are overall on who is playing the game, and how much of it is the nature of message boards as a whole. While I still love boards as much as I did twenty years ago, the younger crowd clearly has very little time for them. On most of the ones I visit, the overwhelming bulk of posters are between 30-55. Basically, those of us who were really into new tech at the turn of the century.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
In older versions of the show, I would press up and power swing when I thought that a high fastball was coming, but somewhere along the way the effectiveness of that seems to have gone away, and I've found that my player's power is mostly uneffected by it, so I stopped. It was causing many more swing and misses than it was home runs. I dabbled with trying to pull inside pitches or hit to the opposite field back in the PS3 era, but I always sucked at it, and was hurting myself more than I was helping, so I gave up.
Now, with fewer than two strikes, I try to just only swing at pitches that I think are up in the zone, and let the rest go. If its a low strike, so be it. Hopefully its a ball, but a strike is better than a weak ground out.Last edited by Unlucky 13; 05-23-2021, 10:33 PM.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
I turn 25 on June 1st, so it seems I'm the youngest to answer so far unless I missed someone else.
I can't remember what my very first baseball game was, but I'm pretty sure it was on the SEGA and had Griffey Jr. on the cover, and I've played The Show on each gen so far. I got into baseball from my parents, both huge Yankee fans. My dad and I used to play The Show together but as he's gotten older he can't really keep up with the new games anymore, but he likes to watch me play a game every now and then.
I'm not a strictly sports gamer kind of guy, but I am strictly SIM with sports games, and The Show and NFL2K5 are both games I play frequently, and I'd say that NFL2K5 and probably The Show 07 are my favorite sports games ever.

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
51, I absolutely love this game and franchise, hitting-I use zone button, play exclusively simulation, quick counts-franchise, pitching- use buttons, hitting and pitching view custom behind pitcher. I have played video game baseball since early 80s Atari 2600. Played most of them all (console-can't comment on PC), never cared much for anything else besides realism when playing, the only game franchises prior to show that were satisfactorily realistic to me (at the time) have been: Tony Larussa-Genesis early 90s, and high heat-PS 1 early 2000s. RBI baseball Nintendo late 80s? and Genesis sports talk baseball early 90s? were great fun, and are 2 honorable mentions for me.Comment

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
Mid 30's here. Got into baseball gaming with KGJ's MLB Baseball for N64.
After MVP '05, I suffered through a few years of MLB 2K, before getting a PS and the Show in '08.
I use directional hitting and meter pitching+ the clean screen approach as it adds a layer of realism to the game, and don't find the feedback helpful at all.
The amount of time that I can put into the game has decreased significantly over the past few years, but I still love firing up my Jays franchise, and picking away when I can. I've pretty much gone from splitting time bigger, open world games like RDR2, the Farcry series, etc., to putting the majority of my gaming time into baseball.2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
Wow these results.
This is to mean no offense but it goes to show how sports forums and forums in general have changed over the years. All of the younger demographic must be on Reddit, Twitter, etc. The game boards are not much of a thing anymore. I was all over these boards, VSN, etc, when I was as young as 14 years old. Born in 1995 and signed up in January of 2010. Time flies.
Reddit truly is a different audience if anyone has ventured that way.
My baseball journey started with some of the All Star baseball games, and some of the EARLY show games when they were just called MLB. Never became a huge sports nut until around MVP 05 (The G.O.A.T) came along. Been here ever since.Last edited by eric7064; 05-24-2021, 11:21 AM.Comment

Re: How old are you, MLB the Show fan?
I would give this game alot more time if we had better customization options, specifically with the rosters.
I'm a retro guy only. It is beyond stupid to have to create 1-player at a time. Its like a time warp back to Baseball Simulator 1.000 (1989!, 16-bit..)
.. I hope baseball can capitalize on what they have going right now. They seem to have overcome the money discrepancy that plagued the sport for so long. And there are a TON of young stars that can carry the sport. They just don't seem to be capturing the younger audience though. (disclaimer, I'm up in Seattle, the fanbase is jaded by one of the worst run organizations in world history..)You want free speech?
Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.Comment
