For me, I think the graphics look great and I have no real problem with them. However, if they were to make the player models more realistic, then I don't think people would complain about the graphics anymore.

These graphics aren't exactly PS3-level, but considering a lot also hasn't seen upgrades since that time either, consider other games that were on PS3 at the same time (even if looking inferior to The Show) and the leaps that we've seen since then.

This game won't see a drastic visual change unless they replace the engine, though. I think they've been running with the same engine since MLB 2004, no joke (but has had same-y feelings since adopting the "Show" brand title).

I think he just means how good is good enough to still make a quality game. Like will someone actually pass on the game because the grass doesnt look like real grass, even though the game play is quite good. For some people if the game plays well but the grass doesnt look real, they seem to be not willing to purchase the game.

I think those of us that know we're buying the game, are basing it on some improvements here and there, and the continuing gameplay that we like on the field. Regardless of the graphics being "behind" other PS5 games.
Correct they were good enough for me on the 21 version I dont need to see the chain move, I need improvements to franchise mode.

I would never complain if the graphics were amazing. As long as the game still played well. I think the graphics on Madden are great, but the game only lasts about a month and half for me and then I get bored with it EVERY year.

I think strides need to be made to justify sensing improvements for the next title to be purchased, and the visuals can be included there.

Like, for example, I've been waiting fourteen years for a proper broadcast fielding camera and moderately accurate dusk-to-night sky transitions since their inclusion. I've mentioned them literally every year, and they go untouched or made parallel changes around them. They have added the dynamic cameras, but haven't allowed us to use the defensive dynamic camera on offense. They have added the retro camera, but haven't allowed for the same camera transition latency on offense that every other camera has. They have changed the dusk skies from gray to brown to purple to who knows what, but haven't yet just done a dark blue.

I'm going to pretend to not know how the lighting system works for the skies to be an easy fix, but the broadcast camera is and has always been a creative decision. Since they have some decent version of a broadcast camera akin to that of MLB on FOX Saturday broadcasts (the one you see with no-doubter home runs and in every ball hit in Home Run Derby, given the broadcast camera choice), they don't let it be a playable in-game camera. They state that it makes balls disappear in the corner in some stadiums. To that effect, I say either: (1) give me that option and let me deal with it (and hardly any stadiums have this concern); (2) give me that option on offense only at the very least since there are okay defensive camera alternatives in dynamic or retro; (3) this is a video game, so make the ball show up like an x-ray through the crowd and glow when it disappears like a Batman game; (4) have a "down the line" camera, but only for balls down the line and at the same height as the other broadcast camera.

Then they started messing with the ball. They've changed it to a fat white circle in some instances when playing, even when the ball enters a shadowy region. Not only does it mess with my depth perception when watching it on offense with the dynamic cam (which is among the reasons I don't use it), but it also messes with me when batting to the effect that I can't read pitches the same way that I used to be able to. Their lighting engine doesn't allow the ball to maintain a pearly white look when entering shadows, and when the Vita version came around they decided to make these adjustments to the console version. These creative decisions have stayed in the game permanently without any way to adjust them, and I watch the beauty of the game in CPU vs. CPU mode get tarnished when humans are playing.

The grass has always been a touchy subject. I don't necessarily need 3D grass, but I would like for them to get rid of the splotchy look for sure. They have gotten better in giving the grass a proper vivid sort of green, and though it looks better in some stadiums (Oakland and Pittsburgh) than in others, it still maintains the splotchy pattern that just isn't needed. I'd say that the dirt bothers me more, but I still have other concerns, such as above, that I would love to see addressed even before those (or at the same time).

They have a lot of room to grow, and hardly anything I mentioned has to do with the game's fidelity or animations. I've been sitting on a lot of these stagnant issues since MLB '09: The Show. They're stuck in their creative mold or with this engine or whatever it is, and it's not like some of my ideas are gospel but I have always delivered suggestions that are keeping the game a little more stale than not.

But again, I'll reiterate... if I want to see these changes made, they'll have to throw away the current game they're working on and rebuild, not copying over any old code. I just don't think it was in their best interest to do so in a generation when they were bringing in Microsoft and Nintendo, especially when they are a smaller studio with a limited budget and time. If you can't find enough reasons to dip into the next purchase that tailor your needs (like I'm a franchise guy myself), then it's hard to justify actually purchasing that next game.

That is where I stand right now.

Why do people put so much emphasis on graphics, especially in sports games? Graphics are liking judging a book by its cover. Sports games should be about gameplay (includes physics, etc.) and AI.

Many of the top games in recent memory have less than stellar graphics. Games like Minecraft, Hades, It Takes Two, and other GOTY winners don't put much emphasis in the graphics compared to gameplay and other game mechanics. On the flip side, some of the biggest flops in history have had a great graphics...FO76, CP2077, etc.

                I just don't get it...

People don't just look at graphics. There are numerous mentions regarding gameplay, franchise, presentation, etc. that remain untouched in this game or aren't improving to their standards.

However, given the lack of evolution in this game's visuals in the past decade or so while other studios are upping with the power of their games in the new console generations, I think it is worth noting. Why is this game identical looking on PS5 (besides framerate, anti-aliasing, and resolution) as it was on PS4? That isn't a ridiculous question.

Visuals aren't everything, but when Diamond Dynasty is, some folks are seeing their priorities get shuffled in a way where they don't feel the game is improving to their needs. Even DD players might want to see a game improve visually.

Also, your examples of games don't take place in our real world. This is an MLB simulation, and our minds know what the real life counterpart looks like. That subconscious effect matters quite a bit when it comes to overall expectation. I might not expect the same from Super Mega Baseball, but that is a different art style completely.

You make good points when talking about the series graphics, for sure. I think they mean more to some than others. And that's okay either way.

I think what’s missing is another mlb game to push them. They had their best financial year last year and now it’s also coming to the switch so it’ll probably sell more. I wish we still had mvp baseball or something else to push them.

In all fairness mlb the show on next at 4K 60fps isn’t a bad looking game by any means. It’s just that it doesn’t look next gen and is graphically behind the other sports titles. I enjoy the game because I love baseball and run leagues with close friends but I wish they would push the graphics a little more.

Dang it Blzer, I dont think ever consciously noticed that about the in-play broadcast camera, but now I'm not going to be able to unsee it!

A more true-to-real-life broadcast would definitely bring some new life into the game. I agree about the visuals of the ball as well, something is definitely a bit off about it and its especially noticeable in the shadows.

Overall I feel like the game looks fine, I played the ps3 version of 16 for 4 years though, so it's certainly possible it made me easy to impress once I jumped to ps5. But there certainly are areas that the visuals could improve

Same here. If the play by play reaches MLB 2K levels, and Matt Vasgersian is replaced, it will feel like a new game. Especially if they include dialogue pertaining to current stats/records etc enthusiastically. That would change my stance on not purchasing.

I’ve wanted the dynamic defensive camera for offence for years! That’s such an easy thing to add IMO but they don’t.. you also forgot to mention an option for the HR no doubt camera.. give us the option again yet they don’t.. some of this stuff is just a lack of willingness to accommodate any request from us “dinosaurs” here at OS
