I want so much to be proven wrong. I still need a reason to get a PS5.

And the stadium creator was built by like one guy, haha. I think the bigger time spent was porting this game over to Xbox, and nabbing that parity that they always like to go for.
Whatever upgrades are planned have to be programmed for 4 platforms thanks to microsoft elbowing their way in. It took several months for them to patch the game crashing in manage mode and then it took multiple attempts for them to get it right.

Same dynamic still exists. Developer time is spread thin. I don't expect much. The good news is it was a great game before microsoft showed up.

It could be a great game again if they would just release it on PC already. Let the modding community get their hands on it. Then again, the devs/publisher probably don't want to be shown up by said modding community, which is why it may never see the light of day on PC. Sad times.

If you think 120fps/4K is next gen, you are going to be thoroughly disappointed for the entire generation. Next gen is aiming for the unreal demo graphics and that demo has zero interest in 120fps or 4K because they are a complete waste resources. 1440P/60fps with all the bells and whistles is miles better than what you want and actually achievable. You won't get 120fps this gen in anything above 1080P that isn't just an upscaled previous gen game.

The Show is a pretty substantial way behind FIFA and Madden when it comes to graphics and player models, and even NHL is pretty much right there as well, not to mention The Show is lightyears behind PS5 games like Ratchet and Clank and Returnal and what Horizon Forbidden West looks like.

Their priorities are pretty clearly on the DD train and just maximizing resources for that. SDS also has gotten worse and worse at adding in new features and overall improving the game. On the field it plays well but every year we're treated to a rotating version of RTTS, 0 franchise improvements whatsoever and a million new ways to spend your cash on player cards.

          It is what it is.

The graphics developers team for MLB The Show must really be bored with their jobs these days.

But with the added income from Xbox users they “should” be able to expand their developer team shouldn’t they?

Every single year I hear the EXACT same thing. Don't worry, it'll happen next year. It's not happening next year.

SDS has made it CLEAR for years that their focus is on DD as that's their money-maker. Franchise has barely been touched. The gameplay engine is the EXACT same engine since basically show '07. The graphics are light years behind other major sports titles. I don't wanna hear they don't have the resources anymore. They have the resources, they're simply focusing those resources on multi-platform so they can, once again, maximize their revenue by maximizing their clientele base.

Re: Will MLB The Show 22 look like a PS5 game?

Sadly the Show has grown stale for me. Season mode and true online leagues/franchise have been long gone. Sounds of the show disappeared last year too.

But Retro mode is still there (last time I actually checked) along with a bare bone online leagues mode that has no resemblance of a true online franchise mode. Of course DD continues to get love…really enjoyed facing DeGrom every other game or sometimes consecutively.

The game looks like it did in PS3 with the exception of birds flying in the background. It’s baseball so it’s expected to play similar Y2Y, but there are still bad animations with balls hit down the line at corner infielders and fielders just not reacting as quickly to balls as they should. Frustrating.

I miss the days of Rex Hudler, customizable seasons, and a fully featured game that pushes the envelope and imagination. Seems to be the case with most of the major sports titles now.

With Ohtani on the cover, it would be amazing to see innovation and excellence be a top priority. We’ll see what’s new/old/same, but my expectations are at an all time low.

just wondering what are theses 'other' sports titles that show better graphics?? because ALL sports games have the same issue focusing on the card game crap modes. like MUT mode etc

I do agree about the focus on DD but I am tired of talking about it every year. but I don't agree about the same gameplay engine. I do see changes over the years there.

The fact that this game is still being made for last gen consoles shows that we’ll not have a true PS5/XBSX game. All SDS cares about is having this game on as many consoles as possible so they can monetize Diamond dynasty. Good thing Starfield is coming out this year. This could possibly be the first year I pass on The Show.

Plus, they are adding the Switch to the mix which isn't exactly moving technology ahead with its specs.

Apart from the hair madden looks no different and the animations are still the 'getting sucked into one' that we seen for the last 15 years

FIFA is laughable they even admit EA they make the same game.. although DD mode I hate the show is the only game where they do make a effort to make changes.. (but are dangerously taken things out EA style each year) and that is my issue

I'm hoping that we will get some kind of graphical jump, even if it's a minimal one like 2K had, Commentary really needs a refresh and I hope we get it with 22.

Rtts is my go to mode the new additions that were made in 21 didn't really put the mode on par with MyCareer it's still lacks a lot to be desired. I was not fan of the loadout and perk system it wasn't a natural progression imo and I hope the mode returns to the way it was in the show 20.
