Because players in the show run way too fast. And that's still a thing in the Tech Test. I just times Jose Alive (67 speed) going Home to First in 3.99 seconds. And that's a human using the stopwatch on my phone. And it was on a base hit to the outfielder from a right handed batter. Michael Brantley (29 speed) on a groundball got 4.41 seconds.

For comparison, irl, Altuve averaged 4.22. Brantley averaged 4.65. Byron Buxton even only averaged 4.00 (best in the league). Players in The Show are much faster than irl. So if there wasn't a hesitation by the runner, stealing bases would be trivial. I'd prefer players just ran at realistic speeds, but if that isn't possible, delaying the steal is better than the alternative.

The catcher throw the ball before the actual run. I mean I do get steals I guess it’s a timing thing before the pitcher throws the ball.Sometimes I hit LT way too early and the runner just sit there. So I guess you start when the pitcher is in his wind up?

Does the fielder speed slider help at all?

Thanks Bob, very nice impression piece. The subtle updates were things that caught my eye as well. Things that are really QoL changes, that improve the experience over the long run.

Oh, and the separate toggles alone for 'Pitch Info' and 'Swing Info' made me pre-order right away! [emoji16]

Are you tapping or holding and releasing? If you're holding, then releasing is what triggers the runner going (with a delay based on steal rating). If you tap, they'll just go. Also their steal rating is very important, and speed not so much. With base sliders, you should almost never even try to steal with someone under 80 stealing.

The most effective way against the CPU (in 21 anyway) was to press (not hold) LT/L2 and then take a bigger lead after the pitcher looks over. And only attempt it with 2+ balls or 2 strikes, since the CPU will never slide step once one of those hits 2.

I was just tapping LT. Pretty good points. I was going by their speed rather than their steal rating. Man the computer has no issues stealing third base when you not even expecting it. Lol

I also believe some steal ratings that are low means he is a situational runner.

The absolute best way to steal bases with legit guys is:

First off.....you gotta steal in the right counts and situations....I am not going to go into details....but these counts on “The Show” not necessarily IRL are very good to steal on:

                  2-0

                  3-1

                  2-2

These counts get you in trouble and can get you picked off:

                  0-0

                  0-1

                  0-2

                  1-0

                  1-1

                  Just trust me.

                  So.....the best way to steal.

                  1. Pre-load your intention to steal by pressing the L2 button once

                  2. Now Hold down L1 and release it when the pitcher makes his move to home...literally the moment he lifts his front leg.

You will get most of the time.....a great jump.

You do not need to take more than the default lead to steal effectively in this game.

Also sliders are your friend. I have steal ability/success set at 6 instead of default 5 and that balances it even more if you like base stealing old school style.

On a slightly different note I had a CPU runner steal 2nd even though I threw a pitch out.Even the commentators were amazed.

I've been playing the Tech Test to get a head start on sliders for my franchise (so that I have something of a base an old I'm not starting from scratch on the 5th). And I just had a game where I walked 7 batters. That never would have happened last year. Really excited for how pitching will work next year.

I’ve found a really nice balance myself on 21 whereby I’m actually being punished leaving pitches over the plate. I pitch pure analogue on legendary and had the sliders at default for my pitching & CPU hitting. I found it way to easy to find my spots plus the CPU seemed reluctant to punish bad pitches.

I adjusted to sliders to decrease my control and raised the CPU contact & vision and now I’m being punished accordingly…which means I have to adjust my approach to hit more corners leading to more balls/walks. It’s really satisfying!

I use pinpoint, and even with control and consistency at 0 on legend, I'd maybe get 2 bb/9. Pinpoint is fun, but it was WAY too easy last year. So far in the tech test I'm getting better results. And I'm throwing more pitches over the heart of the plate too as a result. I love the bigger PAR and that it's a little harder to execute fastballs.

Are you using default legend pinpoint in the tech test? Also are you using sim or competitive settings?

Do you have any similar thoughts on CPU 's stealing(besides the obvious ratings tendencies)?
Do they also tend to go on certain counts?
I usually either throw over, step off or pitch out if they take a lead. Some are fast enough to steal without a lead though.

I'm using sliders, have control and consistency both at 0 (and I'm using sim). Liking the results. CPU hitting is getting pretty close to a spot where I like it.

Human hitting I'm still working on. Biggest obstacle is my contact on pitches outside the zone is still WAY too low. I'm thinking I might have to try All-Star (I've been on HoF since that's what I used last year) and see how that works.

Also, foul balls are tuned so much better. Last year even at 0, there were too many. This year I'm between 3 and 4 and getting good numbers.
