Re: What’s everyone going to do being the lock out

The dynamic and continuing stories of my 2014 carry over still becon in The Show 20.

Tanner Manzanillo having an insane rookie season, solving the hole at 3rd base I had.

Miguel Blanco rocking his sophomore season, creating the most insane 1, 2, 3 combination of any rotation ever in history with Lozano and McMullen.

Moreno absolutely rocking it behind the plate, with a rock solid glove and one of the most frightening arms in the game. Oh yeah, he also hits well and... Can steal bases?

Of course noone knows who these people are but me. At this point, most of the players in my universe are computer generated. But that just gives me more opportunity to feel attached to my team. Lozano, Manzanillo, Moreno... I drafted those three. Guided them through my minors to eventually become stars on my team, all while playing every pitch of every inning (in the majors at least). How cool is that?

Sure, the IRL Jays are an exciting team, but it's hard to let go of finding out how the likes of Steven Haas (switch-hitting potential 5 tool RF), Brady Lynx (speedy CF), or Jose Valenzuela (big, BIG slugging 1B) turn out in the next few years.

That’s what I was kinda leaning towards doing. I’m not one that needs a perfect roster all the way through AA. As long as my mlb teams and some of the top prospects are right I’m good. Just don’t know how I’m gonna come up with who goes where etc… maybe go by rumors or by who he would help out the most. Maybe like Baltimore signing a couple SP’s (position they need) etc… I’m sure that’ll be fun. Just curious how other people are handling it. Thanks

100% with you on this. I used to be that obsessed guy and then I realized that everything in the game is on a suspended plane of reality.

Nothing wrong with wanting to start with up to date rosters, but the fun of franchise is letting the world you’re playing in develop its own story.

The problem is, people put limitations on what is realistic - until what was once thought of as unrealistic becomes real life.

I always like to use the example of the Devil Rays “Hit Show” lineup that debuted in 2000. The organization went all in to generate a winning record by brining in Jose Canseco, Greg Vaughn and Vinny Castilla to team up with Fred McGriff to create a formidable middle lineup.

I remember how excited the area was and how the “Hit Show” ended up being a total joke and didn’t work. My point though, is if it didn’t happen IRL, people would complain “The Devil Rays would never be able to sign and trade for that kind of lineup….UNREALISTIC!!!”

Bottom line, I start my franchise and I go from there. Whatever happens…happens.

Yeah but like Knight was saying a few posts ago, if you're not doing multi-year franchise, then I could see wanting rosters to be like the real thing.

I’m going to put them on teams that makes sense/rumored to go to.

I used to be a true to life franchise player but this year I’m going to start it and let it ride.

I remember there was one year when Stanton hit 59 home runs in real life and in my franchise i player locked on Stanton for 2 weeks on beginner difficulty to have him end up with 59 HR and MVP…..

Yeah it was silly and pointless in hindsight. This year (especially with the lockout) I’m going to play it out and make my own storylines

I have printed a list of current free agents and am deciding where I will place them. I'm going through and marking down 3 other teams in addition to their current/previous team. The 3 other teams include rumors, my thoughts and just for fun/because.

This is what I do with every team with 30 team control. Check out the braves file and go to the third tab depth charts and contracts and you get an idea of how I keep track of all 30 rosters, Players in pink are considered top 10 prospects

Nice! Lot of good information here. I do 30-team control too and have a spreadsheet that I use to keep track of the games I play to make sure I play with different teams/players, and I also tracked the Awards, Draft, Prospects and trade deadline moves I made.

Any underlined text I have a video clip saved from PS and uploaded to my computer

I was only able to get 1 year in on this save and '21 was a hectic year for me so didn't get this deep but hoping to return to it in '22

Yeah this is kind of what I am leaning towards. Just going by some rumors and having fun with it without getting too crazy. One thing for sure though is Anthony Rizzo will be back in Chicago in my fictional universe.

I'll probably use a random number generator for some guys like Correa and Bryant and some of the other big name guys who are left

I like to keep my rosters up to date and to mimic real life to some degree. If a prospect pops out of nowhere and is not on my roster, but he gets called up and is making noise... I don't want to continue my franchise without him. If a player like Eugenio Suarez or something just tanks it and becomes a bench player in real life , I don't want to play hm and he be an mvp candidate because last years ratings said so.

Also lets be honest, nothing about the shows roster management is dynamic so I like to see that a player got benched irl and ill see if he's playing well in franchise. If he isn't ill bench him. I will also go through the MLB the show rating updates and edit those in my franchise as I see fit. For example someone like Devin Williams , probably started the year in the 60's as an unknown player and ended the year with an 80+ rating and had one of the best change ups in baseball. The show would never let a player come out of nowhere and be good so I use real life to determine those things.

Understand. I check on all teams stats, and like you, if a SP pitcher on a certain team is 1-6 with a 6.75 era I might send him down, make him a relief pitcher, etc. I do try to keep the rosters as accurate as I can, but there’s leeway. My dictatorial GM side. If a player goes on the 30 day DL, OFS, I put him down in A ball. Fun.

Absolutely it’s different if you do a si gel-season replay, but I was addressing the franchise crowd that feels a need to re-start each time a minor move is made for the sake of realism. Once you start the franchise, it becomes its own world.
