Re: MLB The Show 22 Features New Commentary Team of Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton

I have faith in this might consider buying after launch because I have been playing with the commentary off for the last 3 years. I hope what they are saying is true because even though they talked about your RTTS players progress it did not work for player lock through out the season. So I remain hopeful.

Edit: Ultimately what I am trying to say is will the same level of detail be applied to CAP's and player lock'd players! If yes then this would be very interesting.

I think would be extremely cool if we could get home team announcers every game. I'm Phillies fan and think would be awesome if could have J Kruk calling games. The home team would be the announcers you get. Probably too much work but I would like it!

I don’t think I’m explaining it very well but maybe you know what I’m trying to say.

For those who haven't heard Boog's play-by-play before, the Cubs-White Sox game today on Marquee is free on MLBtv (I think you have to create an account though), and he's in the booth.

Note there are two split-squad games, and the other is a Sox-themed broadcast.

What's everyone think of the commentary now, that we've actually experienced it?

I wanted a change. Release day it was rough, but it’s improved with patches, so the team is working on it. I’m okay with it as…I wanted a change.

Sounds more natural but seems like they repeat lines just as much as the old crew if not more. Love hearing the conversation about crab cakes over and over playing at who with the O's or the "is there a little wrinkle that" or whatever that line about a slider is [emoji849]

To bad they didn't just record all the names that were previously in the database but maybe that will come in time.

Overall the novelty of new commentary wore off pretty quickly and I turned it off fairly quickly. Maybe next year it will have a bit more diversity in the lines.

After finally playing 22 I prefer Matty V but I'm biased. Matty V has been the play by play guy since I started playing the show and I'm not big on changes.

It’s good for the first year of it being implemented. It’s tough to compare to previous years due to length Matt V was doing it.

I still prefer ‘21 but mainly due to the overall presentation package

I will say for a first year with a new crew, it's pretty darn good.

Last year was my first year with the game, so commentary wasn't as stale for me coming in. I much preferred the old team (especially Matty V). Turned commentary off much faster this year than I did last.

I'd much rather a one man booth, I think. I don't have need for a color commentator in a video game, especially since there's a lot less downtime between pitches and plays compared to real life. So the analysis runs way too long and tramples over the next play. So I'd much rather just have a one man, play-by-play heavy commentary style. But that's probably never going to happen.

yeah, I would much rather have a one-man booth,
two is unnecessary, three is overkill,
and when they had a fourth, on-field, that was flat-out insanity.

I don't even think they need a real broadcaster like Vasgersian or Sciambi,
just a voice actor who is always readily available for commentary updates and such

Unfortunately, it'll never happen. Madden did a 1 man booth with a voice actor for years, and most people (including this forum) hated it. I liked it and was sad to see it go, but I was very much in the minority. I don't see another mainstream sports game going that route any time soon, unfortunately.

                                1 or 2 man booth doesn’t matter.

Commentary needs to be more stat oriented and less story driven in my opinion.

Player specific commentary needs to be triggered less often.
