Re: MLB The Show 22 Feature Premiere - March to October, Franchise Mode (Discuss Here
Yeah, I get that. Just trying to hold optimism on the logic. Maybe something we didn’t see, was an injury situation forcing the Mariners hand at needing a 1st baseman as they were having a great year? I know I’m likely thinking too far ahead but honestly, I’m just hoping for the best possible thing lol not trying to argue with you

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise and March to October Deep Dive
I really think the offseason free agent stuff in MTO seems fun. That would be a cool feature in franchise. I didn’t see any trades in the offseason in MTO. I was hoping they would have allowed custom rosters and had injuries. Especially since they added the sim injury slider.
I was really pleased on the upgrades in franchise. I like how they said they been working on some of that for two years. So they do have a plan and a direction to go.
This was not a quick add or update to franchise to make us happy.
I like how they tested it and had Barnes test it. They knew what we were seeing and hopefully fixed it.
With the trade logic for Josh Bell going to Seattle. That was the 2022-2023 offseason and Bell could have had an awesome year. And the Mariners only have Ty France right? Maybe for them it was an upgrade.Last edited by bryanm1982; 03-17-2022, 08:39 PM.Follow me on Twitch

Did they get the 2022 playoff format updated or is it still a one game 2 team wild card?Comment

I’m 99% certain it wasn’t. Hope it’s in this year. If so, I’ll give a serious shot at MTO for sure.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise and March to October Deep Dive
Of course they gave franchise players, who have been expecting little or nothing in the way of updates, lots of updates and possible improvements and people still nitpick what was not changed. It may not be perfect but at least in my opinion any forward momentum is better than no momentum.
I was pretty interested in the multi year March to October. If I want to do a full season of franchise, one where I sim the majority of the games, then I will do that in OOTP. So the more streamlined March to October could pull me in.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise and March to October Deep Dive
I am very excited about this year's game and franchise mode going forward. SDS just spent 43 minutes of the feature premiere on core improvements to franchise mode. It appears tBarnes helped change more to the mode in 6 months than SDS did in the previous 5 years. If everything works correctly I will no longer feel the need to use 30 team control. I pre-ordered the game immediately after watching the premiere tonight.Comment

These logic improvements look and sound good to me. Time will tell how they will play out on release day with different rosters.
Sounds like the Day 1 roster might be franchise ready (unless there’s a lot of MLB Veterans missing). With accurate ages and ratings for prospects.
The MTO section really intrigued me with the off-season system. My biggest gripe with off-seasons in franchise mode is like they said players would sign with other teams without giving you a chance. I like the positional needs and target system that allows you to gain interest other than throwing more money and year at a player hoping they sign.
TBarnes clearly made his mark and this is a good foundation.
I was really hoping for improved scouting, progression/regression and bullpen logic but seems like that’s not gonna be in this year.
As someone who plays a lot more than I sim because of the poor logic, maybe I’ll run a secondary franchise and mess around with some long term rebuilds.
Also no mention of expanded playoffs???

As for the Bell/Kirby trade that people keep bringing up, there are a few things here:
1. If their player metric really works like they say it does, then cherry picking one trade from a video with out any context (how was each team playing, how were the players performing) really doesn't tell us anything about the logic.
2. Teams make weird trades all the time. I'm pretty confident the Reds got fleeced for the value they gave up in the Winker/Suarez trade the other day. So as long as the bad trades are somewhat rare and at least somewhat explainable I am fine.
3. Trade logic is something that no sports game has mastered. Not that this means the Show deserves a pass, because IMO they have still been behind the times compared to those other games, but this stuff is much harder to get right than a lot of people realize
Overall I think I have calmed down a bit from being so excited from the stream. It was definitely awesome, but there are still a few things that don't seem like they have been touched (drafting/scouting being one of them). I really do think this a solid improvement over the foundation they laid last year, so hopefully they keep improving each year. TABarnes really did kind of go to bat for some common community requests which is awesome. I think there's more good stuff to come while he is on the dev teamChicago Cubs

Excellent. If the stuff they showed today actually works the way it should, I think this might be enough for me to finally move on from my beloved franchise that I had been carrying over for so long.

I think they did a bit more this year for franchise. I know the whole saying if you celebrate crumbs then you'll only get crumbs part that people are discussing but for me I skipped 21 and I just pre ordered 22.MLB: Texas Rangers

I have to say, more than I expected, definitely not all we wanted. But of course I knew we weren't going to be close to what I wanted. But considering this wasn't even originally on the schedule I'm pleased with what we heard.
My only disappointment is how much more it appears MTO got. I liked some of what they showed for that mode but definitely not nearly enough to make me want to play it. All it did was make me wish they'd put more of that energy into Franchise. Or at least figured out how to share some of the features like the free agent announcement videos.Check out my updated 2017 blog on building a high school football video game:

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise and March to October Deep Dive
Well hopefully they worked on trade and roster logic for this cycle and took their time to make sure they do it right. Maybe this cycle they’ll start working on scouting logic and other logic. So maybe the plan or direction is to work on logic for the next year or two. They kept saying foundation.
If you look at this launch overall, SDS really knocked this out of the park if you take all what they gave us. Gameplay, announcers, presentation, and improved logic. It was really aimed for offline users.Follow me on Twitch
