Franchise Players - How do you franchise?

I’m kind of all over the place when I play franchise. What I’m hoping to do this year is play a franchise with the Braves and play a game each day to keep up with the actual season. Then have another franchise going where I play a game here and there, mostly simming or quick manage. I like to try and burn through the season with one franchise to see what the off-season brings.

I play as the Angels (favorite team) and play ALL 162, including Spring Training games. I use FAST PLAY, WITHOUT quick counts (I don't like quick counts), and my games usually take 30-45 minutes. I aim for about 7-10 games a week, depending on how close I am to the real life MLB schedule. In most cases I get burned out by August, and year-to-year saves were my thing, but they blew that.

I’ve been reading everyone’s replies and it’s cool to see the variation in the ways we all play through franchise.

Like I said I used to be an “all 162” player and I’d usually get through a season and a half, but I feel like I’m missing out on a huge chunk of franchise by not seeing my prospects develop.

I always play as the Cubs so I’m usually battling for division titles and playoff seeding. This year will be different so I think I’ll end up playing one, sim 5 for the first two seasons, and then start playing more and simming less.

Ultimately I’d like to get to year 5 and then play all 162. That way I’m playing with a team that I’ve completely assembled.

I love rebuilds so, it's really not possible without year to year saves to NOT sim or quick manage. So like you, as I first go in to the rebuild I have to do a decent amount quick managing until my team is ready to contend, and then I play every inning once the team is ready, usually middle of year 2 of the rebuild or the start of year 3.

            My In-House play rules:
            1. I play every 11th game, every pitch. This cycles my SP. In a 162 game year, I will see every SP three times, or 15 total games.

If I have a bad team, it's not particularly fun playing 15 games a year before I can possibly significantly upgrade it. So I'm forced to build.

            2. I play every playoff game.

For me it gets the sweet spot. I get very used to my players and attached to them (in 10 years I may play over 100 games with certain guys). It forces me to build a team I enjoy playing with, but will also Sim well. Losing the playoffs is painful as it restarts the grind. I build rivalries and see league evolution. (I also do things like edit prospect ages and appearances to create a diverse and appropriately aged league, quality of life things).

Now that Y2Y saves aren’t a thing and I don’t have the same amount of time to play The Show I did 10 years ago, this seems like the perfect solution. Thank you!

Re: Franchise Players - How do you franchise?

I typically do a couple different franchises each year:

In my main one, I usually play one game, simulate once through the rotation and then play the next game with the next starter in my rotation. I Usually do this with the Yankees. Try to keep it somewhat realistic in this.

I also like to do a fantasy draft franchise.. Similar to the above one.

If I get bored, I'll do a rebuild or two, but mostly sim those games..

Then sometimes around like the trade deadline of the real baseball season, i start up a new franchise and play as many games as I can until I lose interest.

I never used to use QC but I got pretty good at the strike zone and taking the pitches I should, the game could get pretty long. Since I changed to quick counts I have really enjoyed coming to the plate with various pitch counts.

I also have two franchises going on, a historical one and a current one to break up the monotony.
Same about now using quick counts. Play every game with 1 team(yanks). Keep the roster close to real life with some minor moves if necessary due to injury but I will always give a prospect a chance b4 looking outside the organization. Quick counts basically cuts the game time in half, games now take around 30-35min so I can usually get 2 games in when I sit to play. Also after a few games of full broadcast I switch it to hybrid. The quickest broadcast, forget the name is a little too bare bones for my tastes.

Re: Franchise Players - How do you franchise?

So for me i always lower attributes and potentials across the board if they are a 75 ovr and higher. Under 70ovr I'll give a slight boost to all players. I do this because I feel like players are way to good and stats aren't realistic or that they seriously underrated the lower guys. I have a system so that it is a equal lowering or adding of attributes. So that's step 1 lol

Step 2 is I always do a fantasy draft because if I don't I get caught in in trying to follow real life and I end up never playing. I do 30 team control for franchise but only for the fantasy draft portion because otherwise the CPU will only draft like 2 of a position and have 10+ in another (so annoying, plus I like to make sure full 40man is up first ST) I stop myself from abusing the CPU in the Draft by limiting myself to only a certain amount of each overall. (For example I'll setup a test franchise and in increments of 5 OVR so 95-99, 90-94, 85-89. Count how many players are in each category and divide by 30. So in my roster there is only 11 total players 90+ OVR. So 11÷30=.36 so since it's not at least .5 it means I can't get no one 90+ OVR. I do the same with potentials. So I limit myself to only couple A potential etc.) Also my team has to consist of 45 players 26 and younger and 45 players 27 and older

Step 3 is I play every other game, so that way the stats end up somewhat balanced from me being 2 good or 2 bad lol I haven't Decided if I'm gonna try QC or not I usually don't.

This year I'm gonna do something I haven't done before which is I'm gonna stick with this game and not upgrade for the whole console cycle so that way I'll get the multiple seasons and actually see the league grow and players retire etc. I've Decided to do this since so lil has changed for franchise in years and I'll save money not buying every year lol

I always sim 5 years (but doing all the roster sculpting) and then play my 2nd season. Allowed me to have my prospects a chance to make it and it's cool to see my 26 year olds as they're now 31. Bogaerts part time DH and 3rd instead of short, etc.

In franchise i play alwasy first and last game of a series with Quick Counts. When i see at the middle or end oft the season i cant make it to the Playoffs etc. i only play the last of every series.
                        Playoff then every game.

I love Quick Counts, because my discipline is bad so the Pitch Counts are most better at the end of the game.

I like to create a player (like a RTTS guy) and put him on the roster and then use Player Lock for the games. It plays just like RTTS, but I control the roster, transaction, scouting and training. It’s like the best of both worlds, in my opinion. I end up playing like 155 games or so because every once in awhile I’ll sim a game if my created player needs to rest.
