Re: MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
1080p , 1440p and 2160p (4k) are resolutions. The higher the resolution the more pixels are on the screen. Images on the screen are made by coloring the pixels different colors.
FPS = frames per second. The more the better. Think about drawing stick figures on sheets of paper and flipping through the papers to create the effect of the stick figure moving. The faster you are able to flip though the papers, the more individual sheets of paper you can flip through in a given time frame which results in a smoother image.Comment

Re: MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
They seriously need to SCRAP EVERYTHING they have going with grass and dirt and just START OVER. Hire somebody else. It's not okay anymore, and it's not getting better. These guys need to go the fields, take hi-res shots of each field, and then transport that data to an in-game look. This just isn't it anymore. Sorely disappointed after waiting from last year's horrible version. It feels like I am playing a 1080p version of a base PS4 game from 6 years ago upscaled and then dumped. It feels like these devs honesty watch a 720p feed of the game and then build their look around that or something. This is archaic and awful to look at right now. On a PS5 I expected so much more. I was hoping PC modders could make things right, but that too seems a stretch now I guess.Comment

MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
I honestly don’t understand the praise about the crowd, they still don’t react to some plays like hits or strikeouts. I really don’t feel the crowd improvements personally
Pinpoint pitching on legend is again a cakewalk. Honestly disappointed after my first gameComment

Re: MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
PROS- Playability (awesome point! really smooth and great animations)
- Crowd sounds and pictures
- New booth
- New overlays
- Great display for fielding (with ratings and such)
- HR camera is a nice touch (but sometimes...)
CONS- Huge lack of accessories (Silver Slugger batting gloves and fielding gloves, Mizuno cleats, classic Nike and Jordan cleats, Nike catcher gear... just to name a few... Reebok is still an absence)
- Removal of many batting stances (Garciaparra, accurate Rickey Henderson, Sammy Sosa, etc...)
- Removal of many pitching windups
- Removal of too much names and lastnames
- Lack of legends (Andruw Jones, Ty Cobb, Steve Finley, Albert Belle, Yastrzemski, Ichiro...?)
- HR camera sometimes is annoying
- Dirt and grass graphics
- Lack of uniforms
- Lack of an external editor
- Medium camera

Re: MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
Playing on Ps4Pro
This is easily the smoothest version yet. I could probably get away with Balanced, but it's so smooth on Fastest (likely 1080p/60fps as far as I can tell), I'm gonna leave it there.
Couldn't find a PS5 in time for release, and I was seriously fearing I was gonna be stuck with an inferior, choppy version (as I wasn't terribly impressed with 21's performance) but, nope, this is just fine. Smoothest I've ever seen it.

Re: MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
Smoothest version of The Show yet. It feels like the running speeds are in sync without the forced "warping" of prior years. Both baserunners and fielders. Feels and looks like real life, IMO.
Hitting feels really natural and proper, both user and CPU. The ratio of balls in play, fouls, and strikeouts seems really good and based on where the ball was located. Seems like the old pattern of "8 fouls before finally striking out" may have been fixed. Contact swing seems to result in more balls in play. In the past, it felt more like a foul ball generator. This is leading to realistic strikeout numbers for me and the CPU. I've been playing on Hall of Fame and have struck out 5 times through 6 innings. Last year it would've been like 10 or 11 through 6.
CPU hitters will punish you this year. I've had 3 or 4 upper zone fastballs be crushed for homers. Really felt like the hitters were waiting for those, just like real life. It's going to force me to throw more balls and even give up on 3-0 or 3-1, which I never felt like I needed to do in the past.
My only problem so far is I can't seem to find the old option of making the throw decision but having the throw accuracy be based on fielder rating. It all seems to be user controlled now? I had like 9 errors in 6 innings.
Overall, best Show ever.Comment

First time playing and this happened to me!! Absolutely froze me. I'm blown away by the way it looks.

Yes, there is a throwing problem for sure. My throwing errors are through the roof, and the Throwing Meter setting of “Off” is not registering. It seems like Off and No Feedback are the same.
I sent a bug report, hopefully they can fix it.

Well, this is disappointing, after years of my name being in MLB The Show it's no longer in this year. I guess it's because of the switch in broadcasters. Disappointing.Atlanta Braves

Re: MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
To further clarify, the option to use Buttons vs. Button Accuracy is there, but not Analog vs. Analog Accuracy. Analog is the equivalent of Button Accuracy and there's seemingly no option to use Analog throwing and have accuracy based on fielder ratings. They used to have that option. In the meantime, I'll just roll with button throwing I guess.Last edited by Jolly Roger; 04-05-2022, 03:07 PM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
Only played a handful of conquest games, but initial impression is that you could tell me this was MLBTS20 or 21 with new commentary and I'd not question it. Looks and feels pretty much exactly the same initially, maybe it'll start to feel different over time or if I really dig into the details (admittedly my team is god awful so it maybe plays more differently if you actually have players capable of hitting the ball hard)
It is nice to have new commentary, rather than hearing the same old lines and same old stories from every previous year. Main commentator seems to have weird excitement levels not entirely equal to the situation, but I've heard him in real life and he's a bit like that I suppose. Disappointingly I've already heard the exact same line from the co-commentator about the crowd being distracting for the opposition closer 4 times, in about 6 games, so hopefully the commentary is actually better instead of just different.Comment

Re: MLB The Show '22 Impressions (PS4)
I’m seeing several post about how the game looks great on the “faster “ option. I have mine on “balanced” and it looks dramatically better than faster. As a matter of fact faster looks terrible. I’m not sure if it’s my PlayStation or something with my television.Comment
