Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

My Braves franchise update: 34-26, 2.0GB of the 1st place Mets! 0.5GB of the top Wildcard seed.

Just finished a 7-game West Coast trip going 3-4 vs the D-backs & Rox! Colorado series was pretty interesting. I was out of town on vacation and I have a traveling T.V. I take with me. It messes with my pitching mechanics using the meter actually a little more challenging hitting the marks while meter is in motion. Anyways... They were competitive games; 2-3,4-0(W),4-5 & 6-5(W). No blowouts but there were HR's hit.
Also Acuna Jr. struggled big time in this series going 1 for 15, avg fell from .292 to .274. Plus he bruised his leg and is day-to-day.

Roster move made Pirates placed SP Jose Quintana on waivers. I put in a claim on him & he's a Brave now! The counter move for now was optioning RP Chavez(17G,1-2,3HLD,18.2IP,3ER,16K &1.45ERA) in the LRP role. Quintana & Luzardo are batting for the 5th spot in the rotation. Luzardo 4SFB & 2SFB are flaming at 97mph.. The rotation is solid as of now: Fried 8-0,2.41ERA, Soroka 4-3, 3.10ERA, Anderson 7-4, 3.18ERA & Wright 5-1, 2.01ERA.

6-game homestand incoming, 2 gms vs. the A's & 4 gms vs. the Pirates. Quintana will start game 2 vs the A's dabaa4c3-a73b-4e61-86f8-ca86c59cfc02.jpeg313cd8f9-0794-4d7b-8455-8660dfb1543f.jpeg23c3dd72-ec01-4909-a8f8-0e3209344d15.jpegf7377d37-67f8-46df-99a3-b4b9dc6c42de.jpeg

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Made it through my first offseason. Realized I never did the offseason last year because I was attached to Soler, Joc, Eddie, and Duvall and knew I could keep them all. So I just started the season over.

It was a wild one. I kept it simple. Brought back Jansen on a 1 year deal with a team option. Brought back Adam Duvall and Luke Jackson (who missed all of 2022 with Tommy John) on 1 year deals. Brought in Craig Kimbrel to add a little more depth (and for the feels) and added Michael Brantley on a 1 year deal to cover for Acuña while he's out until the All-Star Break. Made a trade with the A's, sending Drew Waters (who I didn't really have a spot for short or long term) to Oakland for Drew Jackson and A.J. Puk. And then added some depth in the minors with guys like Zack Short, Tim Locastro, and Sam Haggerty. For some reason the Guardians non-tendered Bo Naylor, so now I have a young catcher in the system that might turn into something.

But the AL West went crazy. The World Champion Astros lost Urquidy to an elbow injury during the ALCS, and they reloaded their rotation in a big way, adding Clayton Kershaw (1 year, $25m) and Luis Severino (5 year, $107m) to a rotation that already included Lance McCullers, Framber Valdez, Christian Javier, Luis Garcia, and the AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander. They're absolutely loaded now. They replaced the retiring Yuli Gurriel with Miguel Sano, and the departing Michael Brantley with Raimel Tapia and Franmil Reyes (coming off a 37 HR season).

The Angels brought back Syndergaard and added some bullpen arms like Keone Kela and Chad Green, along with Danny Duffy in the rotation. But they really fortified the lineup. They added Michael Conforto, Nelson Cruz, and most notably Trea Turner for 7 years, $180 million.

The Mariners weren't to be outdone. They added a couple backend lefty arms in Zack Britton and trading for Aaron Bummer. But the big addition was Aaron Judge of an 8 year, $262 million deal.

The Twins loaded up to try and catch the Guardians, adding Edwin Diaz (6 years, $99.6m) to give them a devastating 1-2 punch with him and Duran, who had 39 saves and a 1.61 era himself last season.

The biggest contract of the year was given to Aaron Nola, who got 9 years, $314 million from the Red Sox.

The Dodgers were pretty roughed up this offseason. They lost Kershaw to Houston, Turner to the Angels, Muncy to Kansas City, and weren't able to add back much, with their biggest signing being a 1 year, $6.9 million agreement with Jesse Winker.

Couple big names were traded. Brooks Raley and Andrew Vaughn (among others) were swapped for each other. Matt Chapman was sent to the Brewers. And Salvador Perez stayed in the division, going to the Guardians.

The Cardinals went crazy on 1B. They brought back Pujols (who didn't retire), but also signed Brandon Belt and Jose Abreu. That's the only real head scratcher for me. Not sure why the CPU signed 2 more 1B when they already had two.

Should make for an interesting season. The NL looks as wide open as it has in years. The Yankees are another team that looks like they're in rough shape. And on paper, the AL West looks really strong. In my division, the Phillies look a little weaker overall with the loss of Nola. The Mets are definitely weaker in the bullpen.

National League defeats American League in All Star Game

The National League has gotten the monkey off their back with a 3-2 victory over the American League in Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The NL pitching staff was brilliant holding a potent AL lineup to just 2 runs on 2 hits. The AL staff wasn't bad either holding the NL lineup to 3 runs on 3 hits.

The NL got the scoring started in the Top of the 3rd when J.T. Realmuto hit a 2 run homerun off of Lucas Giolito to put the NL up 2-0. In the 4th, Juan Soto would hit a solo homerun off of Garrit Cole to push the lead to 3-0. The AL would get a run back in the 5th when Kyle Tucker hit a sac fly off of Austin Gomber, scoring Giancarlo Stanton to make it 3-1. The AL would get one more when with 2 outs J.P. Crawford belted a solo homerun in the 9th off of Josh Hader to cut the lead to 3-2. Lucas Sims would come in and throw one pitch to Byron Buxton who grounded out to Ke'Bryan Hayes to end the ballgame.

Now the league will shift its focus to the second half of the season and the second half of the month of July as the trade deadline approaches.

Cardinals acquire Matt Strahm from Diamondbacks for Juan Yepez and prospects

The Cardinals have made a trade with the Diamondbacks to improve their bullpen for the second half of the season. The Cardinals have acquired LHP Matt Strahm in exchange for 1B/OF Juan Yepez and 2 prospects.

The 32 year old Strahm has pitched well this season in his 40.2 innings of work. Strahm has 5 holds, 1 save, an ERA of 2.82 and a WHIP of 1.01. Strahm was acquired to be another left handed arm in the pen as Zach Thompson seems to be a year away from consistent contribution. Strahm will join fellow lefty Genesis Cabrera, and spot starter Kwang Hyun Kim. Strahm is a free agent after this season so there are no long term committments between the two parties unless they want to renegotiate this winter.

The Diamondbacks are getting Juan Yepez who is stuck in the minor leagues for the Cardinals with no proven avenue to the majors. Yepez will likely be the D'Backs everyday first baseman the remainder of the year and with 3 years of team control left, could prove to be a nice acquisition in the long term for the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks also got two prospects that are likely several years away from reaching the majors, but do add depth in the system that can develop with the D'Backs organization.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Quick update on my MLB 21 Braves franchise.

We're down to the final week of the 2022 season. At 106-50, we've won the NL East and clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

We still have some things to play for as we wind down the season:
            • Max Fried needs two more wins to hit 20 for the year. Fortunately, he's scheduled ot make two more starts.
            • Ronald Acuna Jr. needs four home runs for 50 on the year.
            • Jose Berrios and Kyle Wright continue to battle for the fourth spot in the playoff rotation. Berrios has taken the edge with a solid start against the Yankees his last time out. They each get one more chance to make an impression.

Not a lot of intrigue in the playoff races.

The Padres and Dodgers have each clinched playoff berths. With a four-game lead, the Padres are likely to win the West and get the second seed with the Dodgers hosting the wild-card game. Not going to lie, the prospect of facing LA in a short series in the Division Series has me a bit uneasy.

The Mets have locked up the other wild-card spot. Only the NL Central remains undecided, but the Cardinals have a 4.5-game lead over the Cubs.

The White Sox have coasted since winning the AL Central. The Yankees, who have clinched the East, have pulled into a tie for home-field advantage. The Astros have clinched the West and will be the third seed. The Angels had moved to within a game of first, but have lost nine straight to fall completely out of the playoff picture.

The surging Twins and Rays are tied atop the wild-card standings. The Blue Jays still have an outside chance, but they'll need a lot of help.

              August 1-4: FLAGSTAFF (56-55) @ ST GEORGE (56-56)
Stadium: Bank of Utah Park (Capacity: 8,877)

              August 1: Archers 9, Hops 8 (10)
              August 2: Hops 5, Archers 4
              August 3: Hops 5, Archers 3
              August 4: Hops 10, Archers 5

St. George, UT (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops took three of four from St. George in a huge series in southern Utah. The Hops were an inning away from a sweep, but blew a huge ninth inning lead in the opener. Still, taking three of four from the Archers has the Hops right back in the thick of the wild card race.

In the opener, he Archers rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth and won it with a walk off home run in the tenth to stun the Hops 9-8. Scottie Hager’s second home run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the tenth was the winner as the Archers moved four games ahead of the Hops in the ML West.

This one was a game that featured the long ball as each team hit four home runs with the ball just flying out of Bank of Utah Park. Emmitt Hampton hit two home runs for the Hops and rookie pitcher Shoe-Lace O’Tying hit a pinch hit solo home run in the ninth to put the Hops up by four in what looked like a sure win.

Samuel Espinoza came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth and it was a disaster. He gave up a leadoff single to Jamaal McCormick and then hit Sam Robinson. Scottie Hager singled to load the bases. He was able to strike out Marquez, but then gave up a double to Powers to cut the lead to 8-6. They intentionally walked Gehringer to load the bases and manager Bud Black brought in closer Vic Miller. He struck out Reyes and got Dias to bounce to second that looked like it would end the game. But Robbie Westbrook tried to bare hand it and the ball got by him allowing Hager and Powers to score to tie the game at 8-8. It was ruled a base hit but likely a favorable call by the home scorer.

That setup Hager to win it with his second home run of the game in the tenth.

It was a bitter loss for the red-hot Hops as they look to climb back into the wild card chase. To top it off, Leandro Lugo, who just signed an five year contract extension left the game in the fifth inning after an awkward swing. He was taken for x-rays and it was announced that he has a broken arm and will be out 4-8 weeks. The team has promoted Isaac Nettles from Triple-A Albuquerque to take his place on the 26-man roster.

On Tuesday evening, the Hops rallied late to pull out a 5-4 victory over the Archers. Oscar Aleman’s two-run home run in the top of the eighth put the Hops in front for good as they evened the series.

St George would grab the lead in the third inning on solo home runs from Rolando Powers and Harper Reyes. A Rodney Millar two-run home run in the top of the fourth would tie the ball game at 2-2. Millar moved back to the top of the Mountain League in home runs with his 32nd. Rodney Powers would put the Archers back in front in the bottom half with an RBI single.

The Hops would tie it back up in the top of the fifth on a Skyler Lyons solo home run.

A Percy Sievers homer in the bottom of the fifth put the Archers back in front. It was Sievers fifth home run on the year.

That setup Oscar Aleman with the late inning drama as he blasted a two-out, two-run home run off of Taylor Austin in the top of the eighth to put the Hops in front for good. The homer was Aleman’s 17th on the season. Aldo Osuna came on to work the eighth, sending the Archers down in order and he got the first two outs in the ninth before giving up a couple of singles. Vic Miller was called on to get the final out and pick up his 26th save on the year.

On Wednesday evening, the Hops rallied from an early three run hole to defeat the Archers 5-3. A Josh Ortega RBI single with two outs in the eighth gave the Hops their first lead of the ball game as they once again got back to .500 on the season at (55-55).

The Archers would score three runs in the bottom of the first off of starter Angelo Chacin. A Dias RBI single to left and a Rolando Powers two-run double staked the Archers to the early lead.

Flagstaff would respond with a three-run third to tie the ball game up. Art Mason singled home Forrest Owen, who had doubled. Skyler Lyons ripped an RBI double to right, and Oscar Aleman grounded out, scoring Art Mason to tie the game.

It would remain that way until the eighth when Oscar Aleman doubled to center with two outs and then Josh Ortega singled him home. Rookie pitcher Shoe-Lace O’Tying would then homer in the ninth, his fourth on the year to provide some cushion.

Vic Miller came on and sent down the Archers in order to pick up his 27th save in 30 opportunities.

In the finale, the Hops brought their big sticks, hitting four home runs as they powered past the Archers 10-5. Arturo Mardones hit two home runs and added a double as he scored three times and drove in four runs to help pace the victory.

Josh Ortega got things going in the first with an RBI single that score Skyler Lyons. Robbie Westbrook followed that up with a two-out double to score Ortega as the Hops grabbed a quick 2-0 lead.

Steve Marquez would hit a solo home run to left in the third off of Shoe-Lace O’Tying to cut the Hops lead in half.

Arturo Mardones hit his first home run of the game in the top of the fifth to extend the Hops lead to 3-1.

Shoe-Lace O’Tying pitched well again, but got into trouble in the fifth. He walked Sam Robinson and gave up a double to Scottie Hager. After getting two outs, he walked Rodney Powers. That brought up light hitting Percy Sievers. O’Tying hung a slider and Sievers made no mistake hitting it over the wall in left for a grand slam and the Archers grabbed a 5-3 lead.

But this resilient Hops club got all four runs right back. Arturo Mardones hit a three-run home run to left and Art Mason followed with a solo shot, his 20th, as the Hops went back in front 7-5.

Rodney Millar would add a two-run homer in the seventh to put this one away. It was his 33rd on the season.

Show-Lace O’Tying (9-4) picked up the win, pitching seven innings and allowing the five runs on just three hits. He struck out seven and walked two.

The Hops (56-55) are now above .500 for the first time since June 16th and will now travel to last place Prescott (43-66) for a three game weekend series.

Around the League: Tucson scored five times in the top of the ninth to rally and defeat Salt River 10-5. The Roadrunners are now just two games out of a Wild Card spot in the DL.
San Antonio rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Fort Worth 6-5 with a walk off sacrifice fly from Gonzalez. The win moved the Javelinas to with a half game of first place in the ML East.

Dante Coleman hit three home runs and drove in four runs as Gilbert got by Long Beach 7-4 in a battle of division leaders.

San Diego’s Ken Morris carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning before a Fritz Wiggins RBI double broke it up as the Seals defeated the Nuggets 3-1.

I’ll ask it here as this is an active thread whereas Armor’s setting thread seems dead, but I’m not getting many, if any, injuries in my franchise. I have 30 team control set up with two profiles and no injuries in game or dimmed games.

I have in-game injurires set at 9 and simmed game injuries set at 6, and with two different franchises I've seen a rather realistic amount of injuries for my team and the simmed teams. I can't remember what Armor's numbers were, but I did use his sliders for a past franchise and saw plenty of injuries there too. It may just be a luck of the draw/roll of the dice situation? How far along in the season are you?

I recently restarted a franchise but did have one go the first month without any injuries.

It would be interesting to see if injuries pick up in the second or third month. I'm about 3 weeks into a franchise and there aren't too many injuries, but enough to be realistic. In my other franchise there are plenty, but I'm also in August on that one. I'm not as experienced as most people on here, but I'm guessing it's an odds thing.

The Nationals are now 6-17 after splitting a series with the Diamondbacks and being swept by the Giants. They now have the second worst record in the majors and the least productive offense thus far.

Not all is doom and gloom, however, as Mackenzie Gore had another stellar outing, but still could not get his first career win. Stephen Strasburg had his best outing of the year as well, and outduelled Carlos Rodon, but went away empty handed due to a bullpen meltdown.

On the offensive side, rookie and recent call-up Donovan Casey continues to swing a hot bat, including a walk-off base hit against the D-Backs. Lane Thomas has been consistent in the middle of the order and has delivered in some big moments.

The Nationals now open up a series against the 12-10 Marlins, a team that wasn't expected to do much this year but is off to a surprising start.

                            August 7: Hot Shots 4, Hops 2

Prescott, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops ended the road trip by losing two of three to last place Prescott. The offense, which had been on fire, cooled off in the series, managing just nine runs in the three games.

The Hops dropped the opener of the three game weekend series 4-2 on Friday evening. The Hot Shots jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back as they picked up the victory. Matt Olson went 2 for 4 with a home run and two runs scored to help pace the offense.

Prescott got on the board in the first as Harwill O’Kane lined a two-out RBI single to left, scoring Matt Olson. They would make it 2-0 in the second as Darren Gomes hit a solo home run, his 17th on the season. Matt Olson (14th) and Josh Carroll (20th) each hit solo home runs in the fourth to move Prescott out to a 4-0 lead against Ryan Pressley and the Hops.

The Hops would try to get back into the game in the sixth as Arturo Mardones hit a two-run home run, his 17th on the season. Mardones had a chance to tie it up in the seventh but he grounded out to short with runners on second and third.

Ryan Pressley (7-9) pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on ten hits. He struck out five.

On Friday night, the Hops rallied from an early deficit to post a 5-2 victory. Josh Ortega’s huge two-run double in the eighth broke a 2-2 tie and sent the Hops onto victory.

The Hot Shots grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Josh Carroll hit a two-run, no-doubt home run over the scoreboard in right off of Sam Herzog.

The Hops would get one back in the fifth on doubles from Shoe-Lace O’Tying and Isaac Nettles, and would tie it up in the seventh on a sacrifice from Forrest Owen.

In the eighth, Art Mason doubled to open the inning. Oscar Aleman drew a one-out walk. Josh Ortega then doubled home both runners to put the Hops in front 4-2. Robbie Westbrook would add an RBI single to put the Hops up by three.

Pedro Macias (5-4) earned the win, pitching a scoreless seventh. Aldo Osuna worked a scoreless eight and Vic Miller worked the ninth to pick up his 28th save. Sam Herzog pitched six innings, allowing the two runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked one.

Shoe-Lace O’Tying got the start at DH and went 2 for 4 with a double and run scored. He also hit into a double play. He is now hitting .349 and slugging .767 in 43 at-bats used as a pinch hitter and designated hitter. He has appeared in 10 games at the plate and has four homers and seven RBIs.

In the finale, Noah Wilson was the story as he blasted two home runs for Prescott as the Hot Shots won it 4-2. Wilson went 3 for 3 with a double and two home runs, driving in three runs as Prescott won the weekend series.

Wilson homered to left in the second, then doubled home a run in the fourth before scoring on a Rodriguez RBI single to make it 3-0.

Skyler Lyons had an RBI single and Shoe-Lace O’Tying added a sacrifice fly in the fifth as Flagstaff cut the lead to 3-2. But Noah Wilson’s second home run of the game in the sixth put the Hot Shots back up by two and the Hops could not find an answer.

Matthew Cairo (6-9) picked up the win, pitching a solid seven innings and allowing the two runs on seven hits. He struck out eight and walked two. Xavier Doyle sent down the Hops 1-2-3 in the ninth to pick up his 29th save.

John Benitez (0-4) was saddled with the loss for Flagstaff. He pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out four, while walking two.

Flagstaff (57-57) returns home to face Roswell (61-52) and Prescott (45-67) and will play 11 of their next 14 at Autozone Park.

Around the League: Surprise’s Alberto Ruiz went 4 for 5 with a double and home run, driving in five as Surprise blasted Tucson 16-3. He leads the Desert League in home runs with 28 and is fifth in RBIs with 71.

A Chris Taylor solo home run in the 11th helped Yuma to defeat Glendale 1-0. Taylor, one of the lone bright spots for Yuma has 22 home runs and has driven in 63 to lead the team in both categories. Blake Pacinelli hit two home runs and drove in seven as Roswell crushed Mesa 12-2. Pacinelli is now second the Mountain League with a .334 average, second in home runs with 32 and first in RBIs with 94.

Clinton Lake hit a walk-off home run for Glendale in a 1-0 victory over Yuma. It was his 22nd on the year.

Las Vegas pounded out 13 hits as they blasted rival Henderson 13-0 to pull back in front of the Silver Knights for an DL Wild Card spot.

10/4/2022-Cleveland surprised the league, taking the AL Central with a 91-71 record. Their reward is a trip to The Bronx to face the AL East winning New York Yankees (96-66). Seattle (97-65) ends the drought and awaits the winners of the wildcard matchup, Toronto and Houston. Meanwhile on The NL side of things it's San Diego vs Atlanta to face the 3 headed monster and class of The MLB, The 102 win Milwaukee Brewers. The Mets will travel cross country to Los Angeles to face The Dodgers in the other matchup. Tampa Bay will miss the playoffs by .5 a game as the injuries to Franco and Baz were just too much to overcome even with the 22 win, 2.01 ERA, MVP Shane McClanahan.

Their starter Kapriellan came in sporting an ERA under 2.12 and lowered it to 2.04. Going 7.0IP,3H,1R,1ER,0BB & 3K. Giving them a 6-1 win!

Game 2: we moved Ky.Wright up to the no.2 starter and he didn't disappoint. He had a no,no through 6 innings. [7.0IP,1H,0R,0BB & 8K]. Our offense scored 2 runs early in the 1st, 2-run 1B by DH Contreras and 3B Riley capped off the scoring in the bttm 8th with 2RHR. Deep LF bomb!. We won 4-0! Wright lowered ERA to 1.84,6-1 record.
