Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

It's now mid-May in my Cleveland Guardians franchise and the club is red hot. They swept the Padres in a two game series, took three of four from the Blue Jays, swept the White Sox in three, and took two of three from the Twins in Minneapolis. Three minor league pitchers have made their debuts in this stretch and were able to keep the games close enough for the offense to pull out a win. Cal Quantrill is now off of the IL and is scheduled to start the next game, against the Reds.

Jose Ramirez is, not surprisingly, the centerpiece of the offense. He got off to a cold start but is now sitting at .270/.631/.997 with 13 HR and 30 RBI.

On the pitching side, Shane Bieber and Aaron Civale are both on the IL for at least another month. Tristan McKenzie has been the best starter so far, with a win-loss of 5-1, an ERA of 1.72, and a WHIP of 1.06. The bullpen has been pretty consistent, although not as strong as expected. They can still be counted on more often than not, even if the starter falters.

Current standings in the AL Central:
    Twins: 26-15
    Guardians: 23-18
    White Sox: 21-20
    Tigers: 20-22
    Royals: 17-22

2022 Arizona Diamondbacks World Series Game 7

      Final Score:
      D-Backs-2
      Angels-1

      ARZ wins series 4-3

The Arizona Diamondbacks are World Series Champions!!

What an improbable ending to the 2022 MLB season. The Arizona Diamondbacks are your 2022 World Series Champions. The D-Backs overcame a NL West division that includes power house teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres and worked their way through difficult post season opponents to include the afore mentioned Dodgers, the Milwaukee Brewers and finally, the Los Angeles Angels to win the World Series.

The World Series it's self was a phenomenal group of games that saw the world's best player, Mike Trout shine. But in the end, Trout's performance was not enough to deny the Diamondbacks from winning the series, twenty-one years after their only other championship season.

Game seven was the first real pitchers duel as Luke Weaver and Michael Lorenzen battled it out. Both pitchers were so good that the Angels' 5th inning run after Anthony Rendon and Brendan Rodgers hit consecutive doubles looked like it could be the only run of the game.

But managerial decisions would prove to be the difference in the series deciding game seven. In the 7th inning, David Peralta led off with a double that put the tying run in scoring position. That was followed up by a Christian Walker single that put runners at 1st and 3rd. During Walker's single, Anthony Rendon dove for the ball as it passed through the infield. As a result of the dive, Rendon was injured and removed from the game with Tyler Wade coming in to replace him. After the at bat, Buddy Kennedy struck out in one of the results that Arizona just couldn't afford. At that point, there was one out with the runners still at 1st and 3rd.

Here is where the managerial decisions came in to play. The next batter, Daulton Varsho had performed pretty well in the post season and the world series. He was good for a hit or at least a sac fly that would have scored the game tying run. However, he was given the drag bunt sign and bunted a ball down the third base line, almost automatically testing Tyler Wade who replaced Anthony Rendon. Wade fielded the bunt as Peralta raced toward home. With a split second to decide his course of action, Wade threw the ball to 2nd, getting Walker on the force out. Brendan Rodgers received the accurate ball from Wade and fired to first basemen, Jared Walsh but the throw was too late as Varsho beat it out easily and Peralta scored tying the game, 1-1.

Another managerial decision would come into the play in the 8th inning. In that inning, Mike Trout came to bat with two outs and a runner at second. With the key at bat set to take place, Arizona's manager decided to bring in Zac Gallen. Gallen battled through the at-bat and eventually resulted in Trout flying out to right center as Pavin Smith was able to reach the fly ball just a few milliseconds before it fell to the ground.

The game would eventually get to extra innings for the second consecutive game. Zac Gallen continued to pitch into extra's despite pitching and quite frankly getting handled just a couple of days earlier. Gallen held strong in the 10th and got the Angels to go three and out.

In the bottom of the 10th, another managerial decision came into play. Early, in the later innings, Jordan Luplow pinch hit for Wilmer Difo to face the lefty, Cesar Valdez. A pinch hit that resulted in a hard hit ground out.

In the 10th, Luplow faced off against righty, Aaron Loup. Luplow is great against lefties, not so much against righties. But at that point, there was no one on the bench that could replace him and remain at third base if the game was to continue on into the 11th.

Jordan was able to overcome the odds however and hit a ground rule double that dropped just out of the reach of Angels' left fielder Jesse Winker. After his double, the next hitter, Pavin Smith was able to hit a ground ball into center field that brought Luplow home for Arizona's second straight extra inning walk off victory.

Luplow was mauled by teammate's at home while in perfect synergy, Smith was surrounded by his teammates at first as the festivities started.

The end result is the Arizona Diamondbacks are your 2022 World Series Champions!

**Thank you very much for those who have followed along. Posting in this forum gives me purpose and keeps me going through a digital season in which I played all 162 games (although admittedly, I may have simmed one or two when the nights got long and I didn't feel like finishing the games.)

I will continue on with the franchise and very much hope that SDS brings back year to year saves as I am really enjoying my D-Backs squad.

***special note, the game automatically put us in the 2001 uniforms. I kept them as I thought it was fitting since that was the last time the D-Backs won the world series...in the end, it worked out and it was cool to see us win the series in the same uniform as twenty-one years ago.

****last note, I picked the D-Backs for two reasons, 1-they are not great and had one of the worst season's in 2021 and 2-My city, Amarillo, TX has the Arizona Diamondbacks AA team, the Amarillo Sod Poodles. So, I have seen quite a few of their players come through AA to include Corbin Carroll who tore it up down here before getting moved to AAA, Reno. Ironically, I was able to call him up for game seven. In the game, he went 1-4.

Again, thanks for following along. Now on to our attempt to repeat in 2023!

      World Series MVP
"Freight Train" David Peralta .385 AVG 1 HR 5 RBI

      Post Season MVP
      Christian Walker-.328 AVG 5 HR 15 RBI

It was a tough break lol. Marte was our star all season and it was tough to lose him for the last game. Although I could have came up with a better scenario for him breaking his hand. I guess catching it on the catcher's leg didn't make that much sense. He was really injured on the slide into home and did receive a broken hand but I didn't know how to describe how it may have happened. Guess I could say he landed on it awkwardly. Oh well. Thanks for following along and good luck in the final stretch of your Braves franchise!

Guardians put AL Central on Notice with 4 Game Sweep of White Sox

The Guardians sent an early statement to the rest of the AL Central sweeping away the White Sox and showing they plan to be a force in the division this season

            Game 1- Dylan Cease (2-0 4.22) vs Shane Beiber (1-2 5.49)
Shane Beiber put the talk of him losing his ace status to rest coming out firing on all cylinders. He threw 8 innings of 1 hit baseball while striking out 10. Backed by home runs form both Jose ramirez and Josh Naylor the Guardians cruised to victory 6-0

            Game 2- Michael Kopech (2-1 2.70) vs Tristan McKenzie (2-0 0.00)
The Guardians jumped out fast in this one with a 2 run homer in the second from Nolan Jones and a 2 run homer in the thirs from jose Ramirez to jump out 4-0. Tristan McKenzie would start the game with 3 scoreless innings running his scoreless streak to start the season to 20 innings. That would end in the 4th when the White Sox would put up 4 runs to tie the game capped off with a bases clearing double by Tim Anderson. However the Indians would break the tie in the 6th on a 3rbi double by Framil Reyes and a 2 rbi single by Nolan Jones and secure the 10-4 victory

            Game 3- Lucas Giolitto (2-0 1.13) vs Cal Quantrill (1-0 1.20)
This was a gem of a pitching matchup that we did not get to see to the end. Guilitto was blanking the Guardians through 4 when he had to come out with a finger nail issue. After he left with the game scoreless the pen would give up two rbi singles in the 5th and that would be all the Guardians would need as Quantrill was amazing once again throwing 7 and a third of scorelss innings allowing only 6 hits while striking out 5. Emmanuel Clase would pick up the save his 6th on the year in the 3-0 Victory

            Game 4- Johnny Cueto (0-2 1.89) vs Zach Plesac (2-1 5.50)
Plesac who has been shakey to start the season went a strong 6 innings allowing only 1 run. Jose Ramirez hit yet another homerun and the bullpen was able to hang on with Clase getting his 7th save of the year and the Guardians completed the sweep with a 4-3 win

Guardians Notes- Jose Ramirez is on an MVP pace. 18 games into the season he has a .393 BA with 11 homers and 27 rbis. Coach Legend had this to say "I have been playing this game for aslong as I can remember. Never have i been able to perform with a player like this. " Anotehr positive note has been Nolan Jones. The number 6 Guardians prospect was hitting .180 after 14 games and was being considered to be sent down. Last 4 games he has been red hot hitting 2 homeruns , 7 rbis and has his average up to .231

White Sox Notes- Some bad news from the series with the Guardians. Jose Abreu who left in game three of the series has a ACL issue and will be out 2 months. Tough break for a team predicted to win the AL Central. After the game Larussa had this to say" Its a really tough break for him. He has hit his prime and was clicking on all cylinders" Yermin Mercedes was called up to take his place.

            AL CENTRAL STANDINGS
            Guardians 13-6
            Royals 8-11
            White Sox 8-11
            Twins 8-11
            Tigers 8-12

Next up the Guardians (13-6) start an 11 game road trip. First stop to the Bronx to take on the Yankees (12-8)

I had a bit of a weird one today. I recently stopped playing every game and I'm now playing one out of every three and Quick Managing the others. Had a game against the Nationals that I Quick Managed, and apparently they just decided Patrick Corbin was gonna take his lumps. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 17 runs on 22 hits. Including 10 runs in the final 2 innings when he was gassed. I'm assuming it was just some sort of bug that prevented him from getting pulled, as I don't believe I've ever seen that.

Cardinals take series against Reds to increase divisional lead

The Cardinals (82-71) took 2 games of a pivotal 3 game series with the Reds in St.Louis to begin the week. The series win extends the Cards leads over the Reds to 1.5 games in the NL Central Division.

The Cardinals won Monday night behind Jack Flaherty. While Flaherty wouldn't earn the win he did keep the Cardinals in the game until the bats woke up in the bottom of the 7th. In the 7th of a 1-0 game, where the Reds led, the Cards put up 4 runs thanks to a 3 run homerun by Harrison Bader and then a RBI single by Goldschmidt. The Cards would win 4-2.

Tuesday night was all Cards as they rallied to a 6-1 win as Kwang Hyun Kim would earn the victory, going 6 innings allowing the one run on 6 hits. Tyler O'Neill's bases clearing 3 run double in the first set the tone. The Cards would be up 5-0 after 5 innings en route to the 6-1 win.

Wednesday's afternoon game was flipped as the Reds put up 4 runs in the first en route to a 13-4 victory that kept them within 1.5 games of the Cardinals in the division. Carlos Martinez was roughed up going 3.2 innings giving up 8 runs on 11 hits.

The two teams will meet in Cincinnati for a 3 game series on the final regular season weekend series.

For now the Cards will remain home for their final 4 games with the Mets at Busch for the regular season. The Mets have clinched the NL East and are on the verge of wrapping up the best record in the National League.

                Remaining Schedule:

                4 vs Mets
                2 @ Royals
                3 @ Reds

Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers have clinched playoff spots

The Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers have punched their tickets to October baseball. The Yankees have won the AL East and earned the best record in the American League. The Mets have wrapped up the NL East and likely the best record in the National League. The Dodgers have clinched a playoff berth and lead the Padres by 4 games with 10 days left in the regular season.

                  New York Yankee Franchise

Long story short I since I now have two franchise reports. My cousin and I take turns playing, He does not have a playstation so he needs my PS5 to play. He is a Yankee fan, I am a Met fan who hates the Yankees but he gave me the puppy dog eyes to let him play with his team so here we are with a Yankees Franchise. He told me we would split time between Yankees and the other Franchise but do not be surprised if that was a lie he told me lol. I did tell him though I can not sit doing write ups 4 hours a day so I am going to update this one every 10 games or so

                  Rosters- Latest by SDS
Settings- Hall of Fame with True's sliders for relistic game play

                  Opening Day Roster
SP- Cole, Montas, Cortes Jr, Tallion, Severino
RP- Chapman, Luetge, Green Effross, Loaisiga, Peralta, Trivino
                  CL- Holmes
                  C- Trevino, Higashioka
IF- Rizzo, Torres, LeMahieu, Carpenter, Donaldson, Kiner-Falefa
OF- Benintendi, Bader, Hicks, Judge, Stanton

Yankes Open Season @ Texas,@ Houston, Home against Boston. Start out 7-3

4 Game Series at Texas (Yankees take 3 out of 4)
                  Scores- 8-1, 6-2, 4-6, 9-1

Rangers are obviously not a deep pitching team and it showed. Yankees outscored them 27-10. Yankees hit 12 homeruns in the series, Rizzo hit 3, Torres 3, LeMahieu 2, Judge 1, Stanton 2, Carpenter 1. All Yankee starters pitched really well except for Cortes Jr who was roughed up and was the one Yankee loss in the series.

3 Game Series at Houston (Yankees take 2 of 3)
                  Scores- 4-2, 4-2, 2-3

Very close series between two teams who expect to be in it to win it. The yankees got a strong start from both Severino and Cole and the pen running the 7th, 8th, 9th of Chapman, Green, and Holmes were lights out the first two games for the Yankees. Yankees could not get the sweep as in game 3 Verlander went 6 strong limiting them to 4 hits. Anthony Rizzo hit anotehr home run and has 4 through the first 7 games.

3 Game Series vs Boston (Yankees take 2 of 3)
                  Scores- 3-1, 1-3, 3-0

Pitching on both sides was very strong and the games always came down to the final few outs. Game 1 of the series Cortes Jr rebounded from his first start to go 7 strong for the win. Game 2 Boston jumped on Taillion for 3 in the first on home runs by Devers and Story and Pivetta was lights out and aside from a Higashioka home run that is all the Yankees would get. Game 3 Severino was strong for the second straight start going 6 and a third for the win. After two games his ERA is 1.45. Holmes is 4 for 4 in saves

                  Yankee Player Notes

Starting pitching has been very strong with Cole (2-0 1.42) and Severino (2-0 1.46) leading the way. The bullpen also has been very strong. In 22 innings the bullpen has only allowed 2 runs.

On the offensive side it seems we hit homeruns or strike out. Team has 20 homeruns through 10 games but only Matt Carpenter is hitting .300 or better. Aaron Judge is off to a really bad start. He is 6 for 38 with only 2 homeruns hitting .158. Also struck ut 15 times. Rizzo leads the team with 5 home runs. He and LeMahieu tied with 10 RBI each for the team lead.

Next set of series for the Yankees. 4 at home against Toronto (1-8), 3 at Baltimore (7-2), 3 at Detroit (5-5)

                  AL EAST STANDINGS

                  Baltimore 7-2 (HUH?)
                  New York 7-3
                  Tampa 6-3
                  Boston 3-6
                  Toronto 1-8 (YIKES)

We decided to go with Mike Ford as one of our September call-ups. After sitting on the bench a few games, we gave him a start at first so Freddie could have a day off.

He went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and a three-run homer as we completed a three-game sweep of the Cubs (you're welcome, CB) with a 3-2 win.

Suddenly, Mike Ford is an option to make the postseason roster as a pinch-hitter.

Just 30 games to go to finish out the regular season.

I've seen that happen every now and again. Also happened in MTO when I'd be player-locked on a pitcher; they'd keep me in the game well past emptying the fatigue bar.

The 2022 Guardians season continues to be an enigma. Following their hot stretch against Toronto, Chicago and Minnesota, they were swept in a two game series by the lowly Reds and lost two of three against the average Tigers. The only win in that series was a 9th inning rally against Andrew Chafin. The next series was against the Houston Astros, who are leading the AL West at 24-22. And, what would you know? The Guardians swept them, with each game going back and forth and the first two ending up in extra innings. No one knows what to expect from this club, but the next five series are against average to bad teams (Detroit, KC, Baltimore, Texas and Oakland) before going out west to face Colorado and LA. If the trend of losing against bad teams continues...this could be a rough stretch. Or maybe fortunes will turn and the Guards can take the lead in the AL Central.

In injury news, rookie starting pitcher Carlos Vargas suffered a broken hand against the Astros. This makes him the third starter to suffer a broken or fractured hand in the last few weeks...he was filling in for Shane Bieber. It looks like another callup will be needed unless the Guardians can find a veteran free agent they like.

The grind continues, and it is only late May.

                          2022 Arizona Diamondbacks Off-Season

Diamondbacks go pitcher heavy in free agency

The Arizona Diamondbacks landed three pitchers in the 2022 Free Agency period. The two biggest signings by the team were Aaron Nola (5 years 30.9 M a year) and Edwin Diaz (5 years 15.3 M a year).

Nola will slide into the top spot of the rotation while Gallen will take the second spot. It will be interesting to see how Gallen takes the slight demotion as he was promised an ACE role when he resigned with the team on a three year teal worth 12 Million.

Diaz will automatically take the team's closer role, moving Mark Melancon to a regular bull pen role in his last year on his current contract with the team.

Arizona also added Chad Green as a bullpen arm on a three year contract worth 6.6 million a year. He pitched in 39 games for the Yankee's in 2022 and had a 2.84 ERA.

The Diamondbacks went after a few non pitchers to include Joey Gallo who eventually elected to sign with the Oakland A's. The one positional player added was Michael Brantley who will likely slide into one of the starting outfield roles in his age 35 season.

Minnesota Twins Sign Aaron Judge on a 8 year deal worth 275 Million

Dodgers resigned Tre Turner on a 7 year deal worth 217 Million

White Sox signed Max Muncy on 4 year deal worth 67 Million

White Sox signed Clayon Kershaw on a 1 year deal worth 24 million

Athletics signed Joey Gallo on a 5 year deal worth 70 million

Cardinals drop series to Mets in final regular season home series

The Cardinals (83-74) dropped 3 games of a 4 game series against the NL East champion Mets over the weekend to close out the regular season at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals have 5 games left on the season, all on the road (2 @ KC, 3 @ CIN)

With the series loss the Cardinals find themselves not in first place of the NL Central for the first time since early May, as they trail the Reds by 1/2 game heading into the seasons final 6 days.

The Cardinals won the series opener on Thursday, but lost Friday as Jacob deGrom shut them down and then lost Saturday and Sunday due to blown saves in the 9th inning. Its been a frustrating stretch for the club over the season's final few weeks as they are playing below .500 and are struggling with hitting and pitching. Goldschmidt has watched his average drop from over .300 to .270. Arenado is down from .280 to .240. DeJong, O'Neill, Edman all are struggling to get consistent good plate appearances.

On the flip side the pitching has been terrible. Starting pitchers are getting rocked early, the bullpen can't keep games close and closers can't close games. The frustration within the clubhouse and organization is nearly at a boiling point.

The Cardinals have 5 games left as mentioned and if they want to be playing postseason baseball this year, they'd be best served to win all 5 games. The only spot open in the National League is the winner of the central division as the Braves and Padres have locked up the wildcard spots.

                              Remaining Schedule:

                              2 @ Royals
                              3 @ Reds
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I used to post here all the time, but I haven’t bought a new MLB since 2020 because I just couldn’t let go of my franchise that I had been running since the year carry overs was first introduced. I’m kinda getting the itch to finally upgrade though, especially with my beloved Cubs being in rebuild mode.

Do y’all think the jump is worth it?
