    2023 Arizona Diamondbacks 05/19-05/21

Overall Record:28-18 (2nd in NL West)

Nola's second straight CG SO leads Arizona to series victory over Miami

The Marlins won game one of their three game set with the D-Backs 5-0 thanks to a near complete game (8.1) by Trevor Rodgers. That performance was backed up by home runs by Jazz Chisholm and Avisail Garcia.

Arizona however was to take the series victory with a 3-1 victory in game two and a 8-0 win in game three. That game three was highlighted by Aaron Nola's second straight complete game shut out. His last came on May 15th in a 4-0 victory over the Padres. Nola appears to have found his groove after struggling early on with his new team.

Zac Gallen will look to match that strong performance as Arizona travels to Milwaukee to face off with the Central leading Brewers (28-19)

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Nationals won two more series, one against the Reds and the other against the Marlins. That makes three series wins in a row, all three saw them take the series in the first few games and lose the final game. For some odd reason they just cannot get a sweep.

The team continues to come together, and Joey Meneses made his return in the finale against the Marlins. He would leave with an undisclosed injury in the sixth however. After the game it was revealed to be a minor biceps strain and he will only miss a few days. Infielder Lucius Fox was sent to AAA to make room for Meneses. There just wasn't enough playing time for Fox, and when he did get time, he struggled.

Luke Voit continues to slug at an incredible pace, he now has 22 home runs (leading the NL) but only 40 RBI to show for it. It seems he is hitting a homer in just about every game lately. Yadiel Hernandez has also found his grove lately, adding two home runs and five RBIs in the past handful of games.

On the pitching side, not too much to report. MacKenzie Gore finally picked up his first career win against the Marlins, although he has pitched fairly well all year. The rest of the staff has been adequate albeit not stellar (outside of Strasburg).

The Nationals, now 21-43, now return to DC for a 10 game homestand against the Brewers, Braves, and Phillies. Ten games in ten days against three playoff hopefuls will be a real test for this team.

Ouch! That's some tough luck! Have you pitched with Fried before? He's a stud when he's on! Best of luck to you.

Split the first two games of the NLCS in Atlanta, winning 4-2 and losing 4-3. We need to get the offense going as all of our runs have come off home runs. But we face Flaherty in Game 3 in St. Louis.

In the AL, the Yankees took the first two games in Chicago.

I got to September last year before restarting; definitely could have gotten through that one, but I wasn't going to make the playoffs, and I was attached to the team irl and didn't want to lose guys in free agency. I wanted more time.

This year I was playing every game for the first 80 games. Then I switched to playing 1 game per series, and I find that I enjoy that a lot more.

Yeah, this is year 2. He had something like 210 innings and a 2.60 era in y1 for me. He was a beast. Hopefully he can get on track.

We took 2 out of 3 from the Braves in Atlanta and followed that up with 2 out of 3 from the Cubs as we've expanded our early season lead in the NL Central to 6 games over the Reds. We are now hosting the Pirates as the month of April comes to a close.

Nolan Arenado continues to be a concern as he's hitting just .156 thus far with 4 homeruns and 6 RBIs. He's hitting below .100 with RISP. He has also committed 4 errors thus far this year. Tommy Edman is another concern as he's striking out way too much for the top of the order and we have Edmundo Sosa hitting nearly .350 and could move Edman out of the lineup. I try not to make any moves of the sort until May as I don't want knee jerk reactions to early season hot streaks/slumps.

Genesis Cabrera is out for 6-8 weeks after being hit by a line drive comebacker that broke his hand. Nolan Gorman injured his knee down in Memphis and will be shelved for 2 months, likely meaning he won't see the big leagues this year unless something drastic happens.

Matthew Liberatore was optioned to Memphis after his last start as he continues to get knocked around at the big league level. Liberatore may have exhausted his last chance and could be on the trade block come July if he doesn't show drastic improvement while in Memphis.

I'm more than halfway through season 3 of mine (started in mid-April) - played every pitch of every game. I'll be done with season 3 sometime in November I'd guess and then on to season 4. I played a fair bit of DD early on in the cycle as well as I enjoy that too; if I had not, I'm guessing I'd be in season 4 right now.

With no new releases that have tickled my fancy this year, it's been really easy to fully immerse myself in my own world.

Max Fried made it through an entire start healthy for the first time all season for me. It wasn't a pretty outing, but a pinch hit grand slam late from Adam Duvall got the win.

The flip side, however, is it looks like Kenley Jansen's time as closer has come to an end. After a really good start to the year (1.01 era and 14/15 in sv opp in his first 18 appearances), things have come undone. In his last 11 appearances, he has an era over 12 (bringing his season era to 5.20), and has 3 blown saves (with a 4th being prevented by him getting pulled in favor of Dylan Lee, who got the save). Going with a committee for now and might look to address closer at the deadline. For now, Kenley is moving to more low leverage work. If he can get it going again, maybe he'll earn some save opportunities again.

We were swept by the Pirates to close out the month of April as we ran into a buzzsaw this series and our pitching was inconsistent at best. Matthew Liberatore, Jack Flaherty and Madison Bumgarner were all knocked around this series, as well as the bullpen. Our bats were dormant outside of game 1 of the series and we'll take a 3 game losing streak into a 9 game road trip with stops in New York (Mets), Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia.

And the injury bug struck again on the final game of the series as Tyler O'Neill finds himself on the IL again, this time with a pulled hamstring. O'Neill missed most of last year with a shoulder injury. Joshua Baez was recalled from Memphis and since he's out of options now and cleared optional waivers period has ended, he'll be with the big league club the remainder of the season as him clearing waivers is virtually impossible.

Cardinals are going to have to start making a few roster decisions this month and next as guys start returning from the IL.

The Nationals dropped two of three against Milwaukee, despite having an early lead in all three games. They were unable to hold the Brewers offense in check for a full nine innings. In game two, Stephen Strasburg racked up 12K's in five innings before giving up five runs in the sixth to ruin his best start of the year. Washington is not quite ready to go head to head against the best teams in the NL as of yet.

Unfortunately, they will have to continue to do so, as Atlanta now comes to town for three, followed by Philly for four.
