Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Injuries are really ramping up on us throughout the organization causing roster management nightmares.

On a somewhat surprising note, the Cardinals have dealt Paul Goldschmidt to the Diamondbacks for prospects.

Goldy will return to the organization in which he started. He’s hitting just .195 with 5 homers and 16 RBI. He’s striking out at a 30% clip. Change of scenery may help. D’Backs need a first baseman as their prospect who was slated to be the every day player is gone for season with shoulder injury. D’Backs are just 5 games out in the west and 3 back of wildcard.

The Cardinals will put Gio Urshela at first base and Edmundo Sosa will now be the every day shortstop. Sosa is hitting .310 thus far and we’ve been trying to figure out how to get him in the lineup every day.

That would be so on brand for the Diamondbacks to trade prospects to get Goldy back. SMH. It sucks to be a DBacks fan IRL.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just had a come from behind win against the Mets in the final game before the All-Star Break where I somehow drew 11 walks (including 6 in 3 2/3 off Scherzer). Ended up scoring 6 runs on only 2 hits. Scored 2 runs on 0 hits and 4 walks (2 sac flies) in the bottom of the 8th to take a 6-5 lead.

Swept the Mets to get a 1/2 game lead over them heading into the All-Star Game. Despite being in 1st place with the 2nd best record in the NL, I only got 1 All-Star (Michael Harris is starting in CF). Despite the fact that he leads the league in HR, made it to the finals of the HRD, and is currently top 3 for the MVP, Matt Olson was snubbed.

There are some fun All-Star selections, though. 32 first timers made the roster, including Adley Rustchman and Bobby Witt, and 2 players drafted in 2022 (the representatives for the A's and Nationals) who skipped right by the Futures Game.

And Christian Yelich, hitting .270/.372/.437 with 10 HR and an impressive 23 SB in the first half, made the All-Star team. He's not prime Yelich, but it's nice to see him being productive again, reinventing himself as a leadoff hitting DH.

I love storylines like this! Hoping the prospects pan out for you as well.

The Nationals took one of three from the Braves, but once again were within reach in all three games. The season seems to be falling into a pattern whereby the Nationals can stay close but just can't get over the hump to compete against better teams.

To be honest, I have no notes for that series because I haven't been playing as much and I totally forgot what happened, but I can say I also started the four game series against the Phillies last night and gave up three runs in the ninth to blow what would have been a great victory. Bryce Harper tying the game on the first pitch in the 9th in Washington was rather fitting as well.

No real news to speak of, except that I was so close to sending Cesar Hernandez down to AAA due to constant struggles, and right before I decided to do so he got hot. So the roster remains the same for now.

              September 9-11: PRESCOTT (54-90) @ FLAGSTAFF (74-70)
              Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 9,486)

              September 9: Hops 3, Hot Shots 1
              September 10: Hops 4, Hot Shots 0
              September 11: Hot Shots 2, Hops 0

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops took two for three from the Prescott Hot Shots to finish the home stand at (5-1) and move themselves back into the middle of the Wild Card chase.

In the opener the Hops got a great pitching performance from Ryan Pressley on a rainy evening as they defeated the Hot Shots 3-1. Robbie Westbrook went 2 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBIs in the victory.

This one was scoreless into the sixth inning with Pressley and Arturo both pitching well. But the Hot Shots went to the bullpen and the Hops capitalized. Art Mason doubled to open the inning. Leandro Lugo singled him home to put the Hops in front 1-0. Robbie Westbrook then hit a majestic shot onto the patio over the bleachers in right to make it 3-0.

Juan Corona would hit a laser over the wall in left center in the top of the seventh to get Prescott on the scoreboard.

Ryan Pressley (10-11) picked up his tenth win on the season in a dominant performance. He went 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run on just three hits. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter. Aldo Osuna and Vic Miller finished off the Hot Shots with Miller picking up his 37th save.

Robbie Westbrook is having quite the rookie year, hitting .305 with 26 home runs and 74 RBIs to go along with his 45 stolen bases. He would be in the conversation for Rookie of the Year if it wasn’t for Randy Klaus in Fort Worth.

On Saturday evening the Hops ran their winning streak to five games with a 4-0 victory over last place Prescott. Roberto Geronimo homered twice and Sam Herzog tossed a gem as the Hops inch closer to the Wild Card leaders.

Roberto Geronimo was moved up to the three hole in the lineup as Josh Ortega suffered an injury during batting practice, and he made the most of it. He hit a solo home run in the first and a two-run shot in the third to put the Hops up 3-0. They were his 36th and 37th on the year. Rookie Shoe-Lace O’Tying would add a solo home run in the seventh, his fifth on the season to cap off the scoring.

Sam Herzog (10-6) picked up the win with a great pitching performance. He went made it into the eighth innings, allowing just three hits and striking out seven, showing the form that made him an All-Star. Pedro Macias got the final six outs to close this one out.

There were just 11 hits combined in this swiftly played game.

Kolby McAlister (4-9) took the loss for Prescott. He went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits.

In the finale, the Hot Shots got a masterful pitching performance from Dave Powers and a couple of bit early hits to defeat the Hops 2-0. Powers pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just five hits and striking out one.

Prescott (54-90) grabbed the lead in the top of the first on a Josh Carroll solo home run deep to right. Juan Corona would add an RBI single in the third to make it 2-0, and the Hot Shots would make that stick.

Dave Powers, Wolf and Xavier Doyle would combine on the five hit shutout, limiting the Hops to just one extra base hit, an Art Mason first inning double. Powers won his tenth game on the year to improve to (10-10). Xavier Doyle earned his 35th save.

John Benitez (4-6) was saddled with the loss despite a nice outing. He went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. He struck out three and walked one. Oliver Benedict and Russell Fluty pitched the final three scoreless innings in relief.

The Hops (74-70) are four games out of a Wild Card spot with 18 games left. They will now hit the road for two games in Phoenix (77-68) and four in El Paso (71-72).

Around the League: Red hot Phoenix continues their drive towards a DL Central title as they shutout San Diego 9-0. Josh Crutchfield (11-7) tossed a complete game six-hitter as the Firebirds improved to (18-7) in their last 25. They still have six games left with Surprise and Glendale in that wild race.

Tucson scored five in the tenth to stun Long Beach 10-5. The Surf Dawgs lead in the DL West is down to two games over Las Vegas.

Colorado Springs scored ten runs in the top of the ninth to stun St George 11-1 in a huge series opener atop the ML West. Mike Stoneridge (11-9) tossed a complete game four hitter and got some help from a Juan Caceras ninth inning grand slam as the Snow Sox moved back to two games ahead of the Archers.

Las Vegas scored three in the tenth to win a 13-10 slugfest over Yuma to move into first place over Long Beach. Herb Clark led the way with a three-run triple and a three-run homer in the game. Vegas is now (6-1) in their last seven while Long Beach is just (2-7) in their last nine.

Colorado Springs completed the sweep of second place St George with a 9-3 victory on Sunday afternoon to move four games clear of the Archers.

Braves take Game 1 of World Series in instant classic

Dansby Swanson homered with two out in the bottom of the 14th inning as the Braves took a thrilling Game 1 of the 2022 World Series from the Yankees, 3-2.

Marcell Ozuna tied it with a solo shot in the eighth. And the game then went on well into the night.

Mike Ford, pinch-hitting for the pitcher in Ozuna's spot, nearly ended it in the 10th when he hit a shot to deep center with two men on. But Aaron Hicks grabbed the ball at the top of the wall for the final out.

Gleyber Torres hit a two-run homer in the second for the Yankees' only runs. The Braves threw a mid-game no-hitter as New York didn't get a hit after the 4th inning until D.J. LeMahieu's two-out single in the 14th. It was the only hit the Braves bullpen allowed.

Joc Pederson also homered for Atlanta.

Aaron Judge didn't do much at the plate, but he gunned down three runners. He nailed Ozzie Albies trying to go from first to third; got Swanson at home; and after making a diving catch, caught Pederson wandering too far off first.

Diego Castillo got the win with two innings of relief work. He also got his first career postseason at-bat in the 13th as the Braves were out of position players to pinch-hit for him.

Domingo German took the loss. The home run to Swanson was the only hit allowed in 2.2 innings of work.

Max Fried faces Luis Severino in Game 2.

                  September 13-14: FLAGSTAFF (76-70) @ PHOENIX (77-70)
Stadium: Southwest Airlines Field (Capacity: 21,073)

                  September 13: Hops 9, Firebirds 1
                  September 14: Hops 1, Firebirds 0

Phoenix, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops opened up their road trip with a sweep of the short two game series in Phoenix. The two wins keep the Hops alive in the ML Wild Card chase while the losses dropped the Firebirds out of first place in the DL Central.

The Hops grabbed the opener 9-1 behind three home runs and a strong pitching performance from Angelo Chacin. Chacin tossed six shutout innings, striking out five to pick up his seventh win on the season.

Flagstaff jumped on the Firebirds early, scoring two in the top of the first on a two-run double from Robbie Westbrook. Arturo Mardones added an RBI triple in the second to make it 3-0. Roberto Geronimo and Arturo Mardones each hit RBI doubles in the fourth and Art Mason added a two-run home run to right in the fourth to increase the Hops lead to 7-0.

In the fifth, Robbie Westbrook and Rodney Millar added back-to-back homers to increase the lead to 9-0. It was Westbrook’s 27th on the year and Millar’s 40th.

Phoenix would get one back with two outs in the ninth as Bobby Gates homered to center off of Samuel Espinoza.

In Wednesday evening’s finale, Shoe-Lace O’Tying tossed a gem, striking out ten in eight innings of shutout work. He allowed just three hits in the Hops 1-0 victory.

This one was a pitchers duel as the game went to the ninth scoreless. But in the ninth, pinch hitter Isaac Nettles lined a base hit to left, scoring pinch runner Skyler Lyons with the go ahead run. Lyons was pinch running for Emmitt Hampton, who had lead off the ninth with a double.

Vic Miller would come on and send the Firebirds down in order to pick up his 38th save.

Steven Evans (9-7) picked up the loss out of the bullpen for Phoenix. He gave up the run on thiree hits in 1.2 innings of work. Shoe-Lace O’Tying picked up his 11th win on the season in his 118 pitch outing.

The Hops (76-70) will have tomorrow off as they head east to take on El Paso (72-74). The Blue Rocks are just (19-30) since the All-Star Break when they lead the ML Central at (53-44). They are currently ten games back of first place Santa Fe and 7.5 games out of a Wild Card.

Notes: Pedro Macias came on in relief of Angelo Chacin and had to leave the game after just seven pitches with tightness in his shoulder. An MRI revealed a tear in his shoulder. He will be done for the season and the team has placed him on the Injured List. They have recalled reliever Adrian Spanos from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Around the League: Tucson’s Peter Suzuki lined an RBI double in the 11th inning to help the Roadrunners win 6-5 in walk off fashion over Salt River. The Roadrunners have won seven straight as they try to keep their faint Desert League Wild Card hopes alive.

Left fielder Herb Clark doubled, homered and drove in all three runs as Las Vegas slipped by Glendale 3-2. The Nuggets have won six straight and eight of nine as have opened up a 1.5 game lead on Long Beach in the DL West race.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Got to the trading deadline, and didn't really get the pieces I was hoping for. Wanted Liam Hendricks, but he ended up going to the Angels. An injury to Daulton Varsho created a need in LF, but I was unable to acquire Ian Happ, as he also went to the Angels. Was able to pick up Lucas Sims, which expanded my bullpen arsenal. Also gives me someone for 2024, as Jansen, Yates, and McHugh are all free agents and over 35.

Some other noteworthy moves. The Twins added Carlos Rodon. The Brewers added Christian Walker, Bryan Reynolds, Kiké Hernandez, and Andrew Chafin, so they're looking strong. The Angels also added Pablo Lopez and Jacob Stallings from the Marlins. Amed Rosario and Joe Mantiply stayed in the division, moving from Arizona to Colorado as they make their playoff push.

Cedric Mullins was moved to Toronto. The Rays picked up Josh Bell, Tyler Stephenson, and Nathanial Lowe (which means they have 3 Lowes on the team, two of whom are brothers). The Mets are over budget, so couldn't do much. But they were still able to add Garrett Crochet, who was much needed.

Dodgers added Adalberto Mondesi and Eloy Jimenez to shore up an offense that struggled somewhat in the first half. The Padres had added Ramon Laureano as a stop gap, but he ended up in Triple A after deadline upon them acquiring J.D. Martinez from Baltimore and Daniel Vogelbach from Kansas City.

The Astros picked up Jose Abreu from Detroit; Miguel Sano had a strong start but had been fading (same thing happened in 2022). The Mariners had been having trouble at DH since Judge got injured, so they acquired Brandon Belt and Michael Chavis to platoon there.

I was disappointed I wasn't able to get Happ, but it shouldn't be too big of an issue. Drew Waters has had a good season, and he'll just have to play more LF rather than DH, and Varsho should be back in late September. But thankfully, no one else in my division took big strides either. The NL Central looks like it's Milwaukee's to take. The Dodgers already had incredible pitching, and now they look like they could push 110 wins.

AL East looks like a toss up. The Rays look like the best team on paper, but they're 6 games behind Toronto. The Yankees are only 2 back, but they lost both Cole and Montas to injury, and couldn't replace them the way they wanted to. AL Central is really tight with one 1 game separating Minnesota (who only added Rodon) and Cleveland (who didn't add anybody). The AL West looks like the best division in baseball, and it's likely that both Wild Cards will come from there. Angels weren't able to extend Ohtani, so they have that spectre hanging over them for the stretch run. The Mariners, without Aaron Judge, have the best record in the AL.

2023 Arizona Diamondbacks end of May

Overall Record: 35-21 (2nd NL West)

D-Back's close out May with series win Vs. the Braves.

The Arizona Diamondbacks ended the month of may with a series win against the Atlanta Braves. That win including wins in game one and three of the series by the scores of 7-4 and 8-1. Atlanta won game two 8-3 behind a strong pitching performance by Huascar Ynoa who pitched nearly eight full innings of shutout ball before allowing his only run and being pulled from the game.

Arizona had a scary moment in game one of the series when Ketel Marte was hit by a pitch and had to be removed from the game for an injury to his finger. Luckily, x-rays after the game were negative and he was able to play for the rest of the series.

The second month of the season ends with the Dodgers riding high with the best record in the league, 40-16. Arizona isnt far behind at 35-21 but seem to drop another game each series. San Diego had a rough overall and fell from their second place spot to third at 28-27 and in face have won just three times since getting swept by Arizona in their three game series in the middle of the month.

The teams will not transition to June as Arizona opens the month with a four game series against the Nationals.

It only took about 16 years of playing the show but today, my opening day for a new franchise…..I threw my first no hitter. IMG_5452.jpg

Yankees pull even as World Series heads to New York

Surprise starter Rio Ruiz had a two-run double and Luis Severino struck out eight in 6.1 innings of work as the Yankees evened the World Series at a game apiece with a 5-3 win.

Just a frustrating game. New York didn't have many hard hits, they just blooped us to death.

Off to New York now for Game 3. Jose Berrios, who has been spectacular in the playoffs so far, takes the mound for the Braves. New York is going with German Marquez.

Unfortunately, that bad luck continues. In the 2nd of a game against the Dodgers, Austin Riley tore his shoulder on a check swing. After a horrid start to the season, he turned it around and was having a nice season. He had amassed 8 HR and 37 RBI in the previous 41 games. He is sitting at 3rd in the NL with 30 doubles (2 behind the lead), and 4th in all of MLB with 80 RBI (behind just Danny Jansen with 84, Matt Olson with 86 and Paul Goldschmidt with 88). We're at August 15th and he's out 1-2 months. So there's still a chance he could rejoin the team in the postseason, or maybe even at the end of the regular season. Here's to hoping, since Riley, Olson, and Harris have really been my only consistent hitters (though Acuña has been heating up a bit).

With 40 games left to play, I'm 1 1/2 games behind the Mets, but I'm 9 games up on the Cardinals for the Wild Card spot and 6 up on the Rockies to host the Wild Card game. So I still feel good about my chances to make the postseason at least.

On the plus side, Matt Olson hit his 40th HR, becoming the first Braves 1B to hit 40 since Andres Gallaraga in 1998. With 40 games to play, he's got a real chance at Andruw Jones' franchise record of 51 HR. This despite the fact that he still can't hit lefties at all; he's only hitting .154 against them with 3 HR and 8 RBI. And hes somehow second in baseball in RBI despite only hitting .216 with RISP. He's also been hit by a pitch 14 times after getting hit 19 times last season. Apparently, he stands too close to the plate.

Franchise update on my Braves: I'm still grinding it out with it if i can. We are 24 days from the All-star game.

We just completed a 6-game road trip sweep, vs. the Nats & Cubs respectfully. Our record sits at 44-28, 2.5 gms up on the Mets for 1st place in the NL East.

Headed back to home base for a 7-game homestand. Giants for 4 & Dodgers for 3.

                                All-star hopefuls includes: C d'Arnaud(8HR,28RBI), 1B Olson (23HR,48RBI), 2B Albies(15HR,26RBI), 3B Austin Riley(16HR,38RBI), LF Rosario (13HR,32RBI), SP Fried(9-2,2.53ERA) SP Wright (7-1,1.95ERA), RP Strider (38K,31.2IP) & CP Jansen(17SV/20SVO).
