Anybody able to hit and pitch in the same game with Ohtani?

I posted this to the “Little Things” thread after seemingly not being able to start a thread, but reaching out to wider audience.

I cannot hit AND pitch with Ohtani in the same game. I am glad the issue of fatigue is resolved but it seems weird to me that one of most impactful aspects of Ohtani’s game is having him DH in his own start (and stay in according to the new “Ohtani rule”).

This is a somewhat unique circumstance to him obviously but he is the cover athlete… is there something I am missing?

If I select Ohtani as my starter, I cannot select him within the rotation. I can only select him to DH if he is not selected as the starting pitcher…

Yikes - seems like an oversight.

No, that logic doesn’t exist yet. I figure they would’ve added it this year being the cover boy and they mentioned it in the franchise stream but no there is no way to pitch and hit in the same game from what I’ve noticed.

I have not tried it but someone said on here you can if he’s in
          The 2 slot in rotation

NOPE you can't I just tried. won't let you put him in the lineup when he pitches

I guess if you don't care about burning a bench spot there might be away to get around it.

I'm still on 21 but told the same work around exists. You lose the DH for the game though, so it's not the Ohtani rule.

You put a different pitcher in your lineup at DH and put them wherever you want Ohtani in the lineup (because when Ohtani subs in for them, they're out for the game, so you don't wanna burn a position player on the bench; I'd choose a starting pitcher). Then you swap positions with a position player; so now the pitcher is in the field and the position player is the DH. Start the game. As soon as Ohtani's pitching and you're in the field, you swap the DH back into his fielding position for the pitcher. The game tells you that you'll lose the DH and your pitcher will hit. You say ok. Now your position player is back where he was supposed to be and Ohtani is hitting where the pitcher was in the lineup, at least until you pull him from the game. So you're playing by NL rules pre-universal DH

              The problem
With this I’d Ohtani is usually the lead off hitter so doesn’t quite work well for Away games, a starting pitcher would have To lead off the game before you get to fielding. I dont think
You can swap position when batting.

I’m guessing we can’t just choose Ohtani to
Pitch in the 2nd inning and start as a DH?

That's only to set him as a DH in the main lineups page

I’m just going to set the correct lineup on the lineup screen - Ohtani leading off at DH - and move Noah to #1 in the rotation. The CPU will pick a bench player to DH when Ohtani pitches, but he’ll DH when the others pitch.

Is there a reason, even before Ohtani, that it doesn't let you insert pitchers into the lineup when they pitch?

It's never been against MLB rules. In fact it was required in the NL. Makes no sense.

On 21, set up your lineup ahead of time and then go into the game on player lock as Shohei pitching. Last I checked you get Shohei in the lineup and on the mound although you can only control one unless you use quick manage. But the only way to actually control DH Ohtani is to take pitcher Ohtani out if you don't sim.

Haven't ran into this particular problem yet but in 21 the franchise AI had a nasty habit of doing switching Shohei as DH into another pitcher as DH, usually Dylan Bundy. Who knew he was a switch hitter.

I've had him DH and pitch at the same game in 2021 in exhibition game. Make sure he's not the first starting pitcher and put him on the DH in the lineup. Then load the game, when the pitcher screen comes up select him, then lineup comes up he should still be the DH. I've pitched with him, and pulled him out, he was still the DH till the end of the game.

It's really, really, REALLY easy to do. If you're the HOME team set your lineup as such if you want to recreate the 2022 Angels lineup:

                          1. Syndergaard (or any pitcher) CF
                          2. Trout DH
                          3. Rendon 3B
                          4. Duffy 2B
                          5. Adell RF
                          6. Walsh 1B
                          7. Stassi C
                          8. Marsh LF
                          9. Fletcher 2B
                          Ohtani P

During the game, before first pitch (or whenever), go into "Substitutions" and switch Syndergaard and Trout's positions. Boom. Good to go.

You can also do this in away games but you aren't able to switch Syndergaard and Trout's positions until the Bottom of the 1st, so you should put Syndergaard lower in the order.

Has anyone had Ohtani hit against them as the DH in Franchise Mode?

He appears to be playing in games I'm not involved in (when I check box scores) but when my team plays against him the CPU benches him.

It works in RTTS, I'm chalking it up to inept managerial AI. I've had Ohtani pitch and hit in the same game for RTTS but for some reason, my 2 way player does not get to stay in after getting pulled from the mound.
