    Re: Check Swings

I saw someone say something about SDS saying check swings being tied to vision to a degree this year, but I don't have any clue where they got that (or why it would be vision and not discipline).

If anything it would be discipline, and they made a big deal last year about detaching the rating from check swing success so I doubt they've reverted that. They probably just globally made them slightly easier to execute than last year.

Correct. I have increased my focus on pitch recognition to an even higher degree due to the inconsistency with check swing success. I literally can have some successful checks and the same exact animation will be called a strike as well. There is no rhyme or reason where prior to 21 it was heavily weighted on the discipline rating in combination with your pressure of the button press and swing type.

Contact swings will have a slightly better success ratio on check swings than a normal swing.

My last game was a 65/45 strike to check ratio which is far more palatable.

But they did tune it better for 22. I just think it needs a little bit more and we will be good.

21 was a total abortion with check swings.

Only thing I’m noticing through 10 games in my franchise is that the CPU rarely has a check swing ruled as a strike ( HOF default).

I had two strikeouts on check swings in my last game.

22 far from perfect….85/15 swing to check.

              Still needs work.

This has been my experience, 20 seemed perfectly balanced. This year's game it seems like more times than not it's a swing because the animation kicks in. On 20 if you released the button in time you got a swing stopped but that same timing on 22 a lot of times results in an animation kicking in and a swing is the result.

I should note that all my experience is from playing DD. I have not fired up exhibition or franchise to see how playing the games there compares to DD. I should have made that distinction in my original post.

I've seen plenty of cpu check swing strikes this year.

Yeah...total difference....DD is on comp settings (apparently for offline as well) it definitely has a different vibe to it.

                    Re: Check Swings

While I don’t feel it’s game breaking, the check swings are definitely a bit too sensitive this year. There are times where I get caught and I say to myself, “alright you got me”.

But there are also times when I don’t commit to the swing and the animation kicks in where my guy winds up all of the way in the other batters box.

It’s not perfect and they seem to be having trouble finding the right balance. Definitely has lead to more strike outs for me than years past

Thank you, finally someone understands what I'm talking about with the animation kicking in and causing a swing that otherwise wouldn't be a swing. It's extremely annoying. I'm just going to have to stop attempting check swings cause I almost always get rung up on it. It used to be about 50/50 and now it's more like 80% or 90% of the time I get rung up.

Also, in the past it used to factor in how hard to pressed the button but that seems to no longer be a part of the equation.
