    Re: Zone vs directional

Zone is a lot harder in my experience.
    Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

Zone requires more stick skills for sure. If you're looking for more solid contact I'd go with directional.

I don't use zone but I assume if you're really good at zone you can generate a lot more hits than directional, which is more ratings based .

That in theory is true, but it’s much harder or nearly impossible master.

I play legend, zone hiring and put the gameplay style to simulation. What simulation style does is rely more on rating than it does “stick skills” so if you have a bad hitter at the plate, you won’t see him bombing home runs just cause you squared up the pitch. This to me is the perfect hybrid.

I’ve tried directional but can’t get behind it. I like the mechanics of driving the ball the other way or turning on an inside pitch. Left stick is j the barrel of bat, you have it slightly off and it’s a pop out. I have the pci off mainly because it’s distracting to me as well.

To answer if you get more hits, that’s subjective. Do you have more influence as the user? Yes. Is it easy to master? No.

Coupled with the simulation gameplay style and output is probably very close to directional with slightly more control over that said outcome.

            Re: Zone vs directional

Its more a preference of the user than one being better, producing more hits, versus the other. The game is balanced extremely well for which hitting mechanic the user chooses to use coupled with play style and difficulty level.

I've only dabbled in using directional/timing hitting but I didn't feel as though the results were different than what I experience using zone. Its more that I just prefer moving the PCI myself versus the game "simulating" it for me.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I used timing exclusively up until 2013 when the timing window was changed. I switched to zone then and it was..fine. I used zone basically just leaving the PCI in the middle of the plate without moving it. So, as you would imagine, I would crush most pitches in the middle of the plate but get a ton of weak contact when it was in other spots of the strike zone. Ended up moving back to directional/timing in 2019 (I think) and just lived with the random PCI that happens with it. I've seen from some people here that they separated directional and timed hitting so it may be ok again. I dunno.

The point of that long diatribe is that timed/directional hitting is mainly based on attributes. I believe zone takes a more nuanced skill to master. A lot of the top online players use zone.

Okay well then I'll reword what I actually meant. You have a lot more control using zone than you do using directional.

No worries brother. I knew what you meant. Agreed, a bit more control with zone.

Thank you guys for all your answers. I stick with zone. What I do which probably isn’t the smartest but I guess down right and leave pci in the middle and if it doesn’t guess right I just swing down the middle if possible. I’m not quick enough to move the pci.

I feel like zone relies heavily on stick skills and is a little too easy for me. I prefer timing and utilizing the ratings more.

The right answer is to play the game however you like. It’s supposed to be fun, after all.

That said, the efforts of the developers are clearly towards zone in the same way that their efforts are towards online play. Doesn’t mean directional is a bad experience. If you prefer ratings to matter most, go directional. If you prefer user skill to matter most, go zone. For those who play 2k, think of it as shooting with the meter vs real player percentage.

So zone is my more user and directional is stat based so if your stats for your team is low then directional would be bad then right ?
