Franchise Players- Does Full Control Carry The Weight

So I read all these great franchise reports in the franchise thread. I see peoeple talking trades and such and its to a point honestly I enjoy reading what some of you write just as much as I enjoy playing

But I am curious. Do most of you who play a lot of seasons and write up reports use 30 team control to get the most realistic experience or do most of you just control the one team and let the league play itself out?

I go back and forth so many times. I start one with 30 team control. Then i get about half way in and realise this is a lot of work. Then I change to single team see a computer team make a terrible trade and regret not doing 30 team control

So what controls your universe and stories?

    I just control my team.

I have autosave on, so it saves after I play my game. When I advance to the next day, before I save I check the transaction log for any trades. If there is a trade that doesn't make sense to me, I back out, reload and advance to the next day again.

I do the same as LowerWolf, I let the CPU run the other teams, but if a silly trade occurs I just exit and reload. Other than that, I'm hands off on every teams transactions except for my own.

Re: Franchise Players- Does Full Control Carry The Weight

        I just control one team.

For the first time I let what the AI does bother me to the point that I was stuck in limbo as to how to enjoy my franchise, and still am to an extent.

My issue was using traditional DH rules and AI controlled NL teams seemingly trying to fill the DH role. But after messing around here in the past few weeks, I've found that if I just edit a player's secondary position to be his primary position to stop a good player from being on the bench, it works itself out. Had I not been a knucklehead 6 months ago, my enjoyment with '22 would've been that much more.

Ex: Padres signed Matt Chapman but he was blocked at 3rd by Machado and Rizzo at first. In ST I altered their primary positions as follows:

        3B Chapman
        SS Machado
        LF Tatis Jr

And this worked beautifully. The Padres no longer had a lower rated LF playing over a 93 overall Chapman who they invested tons of money/years into. On DH days, Tatis DHs and the lower rated LF plays the field.

        This worked throughout the league.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I do 30 team control, but I rarely do anything for the teams that I'm not controlling. It's only if I see something crazy happen that I want to reverse.

When you say going back does that mean a replay of the game you just had saved?

No. It auto saves after I play, so the game I just played is saved.

It doesn't auto save when you advance to the next day. So whether you use auto save or not, just make sure you save after you play your game but before you advance to the next day.

Re: Franchise Players- Does Full Control Carry The Weight

I do a full immersive 30 team control. I'm more of a rebuilder and manager. I enjoy tearing down a bad team, or better yet, taking a team that is already bad, making a few realistic trades for my team but mostly, using the draft and free agency to rebuild.

I let the computer handle injuries, rotations, lineups, drafting etc. I control all trades, free agency (mostly).
What I usually do is sim a few weeks at a time, adjust the DL, (for a lot of season long injuries, they keep them on the 15 day DL for some reason). I wish I could control only the first few rounds of the draft for each team. It seems there are a lot of bad choices by the computer. Then, I sim all games to the trade deadline. I look at all the teams that are in the hunt and see what they need. I look at the teams that are out of it and see what they can offer. I try to find realistic fits for both. I try to make equal trades for both squads. This is the longest and most tedious task in 30 team control. I'd say it takes over an hour. I then sim weeks at a time to update the rosters as mentioned before.

After the season I make offers for the top 10 or so free agents on the market. I try to do 1 realistic team, 1 team that has that position need and 1 that is a long shot.
I let the computer decide where they go, then, I turn the free agency from Manual to CPU.
I rarely make an offer for my team to a top player, just a gap filler, usually RP's. Sometimes, if there is a young guy with a A or B potential and he is still available after January, I'll offer them but always add another small market team offer.

SO, an incredible long answer....it's pretty cool to be able to make a realistic sim but I usually get bored with it after 6 seasons of doing this.

I go back and forth so much on what to do. Problem with me is when I do 30 team control then I want to set all the lineups, rotations and it becomes like a full time job in which I do more setting up then playing

I do 30 Team Control, but basically only control my team.

                    1. I make a second profile "CPU" and make those 29 teams all Auto.
                    2. At some point during September, I go through the Sign Draft Picks and sign any remaining unsigned draftees. At times the CPU will leave quality players unsigned.
                    3. Before the final day of the Regular Season, I cut all CPU teams down to 90 players. Teams can only carry a max of 98 players into the start of the Off-Season, so some signed draftees would otherwise be Free Agents.
                    4. In the Playoffs, I turn my CPU profile to Manual for Lineups/Rotations so that teams use a 4-man rotation.

Rarely do I intervene with what the CPU is doing, but these few measures make a long-haul Franchise much more enjoyable and keeps the CPU teams more competitive.

I just control my team and whatever happens with other teams is just whatever. Wacky things they might do don’t bother me, it’s just a video game. Side note I keep auto save off though. I forget which year it was but after I played a classic of a game it froze while trying to auto save. It might have even corrupted my save, not 100% on that though. So ever since I turn auto save off. I also keep two saves at all times in case one corrupts.

This is almost exactly what I do as well. I'll take a few hours and do some trades at the deadline as well to help teams in a rebuild get some young players to tell their system.

Well we get closer and closer to a new edition and another round of franchise. I am trying to decide what to do this year which has many aspects

1- I need to decide what team I want to play that I will not restart. Ofc I want to play with my Mets but at times if they are pissing me off in real life games I will get mad at that player in game. (Yes I know I am crazy)

2- One thing I know for sure I will not like last year keep restarting after future updates. I will start after the first roster update that puts Senga in the game for the Mets. Whether I choose to use them or not. Want the Boston outfielder from Japan in as well

3- I will do 30 team control but how much of each team I will control I am still deciding. I might just watch for wacky trades, run free agency for every team, and just sign their draft picks and handle the cuts so they do not lose any picks

I am working on an excel sheet that has every single player on it. I have every team done now I am just cleaning it up. Looking to use it as a way to keep track of everything teams are doing in the league.

I feel your pain! In addition, the ai doesn't use the bullpen realistically unless you manually place the relievers in specific bullpen positions. I've played against the Angels many times and most of the time Ohtani doesnt get inserted into the batting lineup. So, you have to manually change their lineups so he's in the lineup every day or the ai will remove him because he's in the starter spot. These types of obvious flaws with the ai are frustrating and what need to be fixed in '23.
