Re: MLB The Show 23 Releases on March 28, Xbox Game Pass on Day One

Very happy it is on Gamepass again. The Show is one of my favorite sports games and I feel the gameplay is great. However, I also feel the game has essentially been the same for over a decade (I popped in MLB 2014 a few weeks back and it wasn't really much different). Baseball is baseball....I get it. But other than the stadium creator (which I've never used) the only other significant development to me was bringing game to XBox and Switch.

NBA2K23 hit a home run with ERAs. Something truly new. MLB needs to provide some significant feature. Whether that be an ERA mode, a revamped franchise mode, a custom league mode (let us create our own ERA league), maybe some new mode involving RTTS (would a mode like NBA Rec work for a baseball game?), etc.

So far they haven't which makes this game great value for me on Gamepass otherwise it would have been either a pass or a wait for price to drop purchase.

I still find myself playing some MLB 20 the show even though I like MLB 22. I can't really say one is even better than the other. That shouldn't be the case.

I think what he is trying to say is once NCAA releases next year a massive portion of MLB The Show's player base will disappear. Some for good and others will come back in the winter or the following year. People are going to have more options when it comes to sports games next year. Pick and choose your battles basically.

It's aggravating to have that itch to play and then I try to download my franchise save and it doesn't work. I usually just play something else. Playing on the XBSX is a one stop deal and it's on gamepass. Plus I will be only be playing "next gen" version with all the bells and whistles.

Not debating whether to buy or subscribe, its a personal preference. I prefer gamepass for the show now because I am certainly not going to buy a game I play for a few weeks then discard when I can just "rent" it for the year on gamepass. I still buy plenty of games. It's just the Show just doesn't have the staying power it used to for me like OOTP does (which I buy yearly). I don't play diamond dynasty, I'm a franchise only player, and its been pretty much the same mode for a long long long time.

          count me in that boat.
baseball is my favorite sport but I only started playing Show year round with Show 14 and I didnt have a new cfb game every fall. if ea's new fb game is comparable to the old cfb, thats cutting my Show time completely in half

I think that Gamepass makes a lot of sense for many here who feel like The Show has gotten a bit stale. I enjoy The Show. I really do. I probably play hundreds of games a year. But I agree with many here on the issues with the game. For me personally, immersion is my number 1 thing. If Show 23 could marry up with MLB2Ks presentation it would be perfect for me. I'd have no issue paying 70$ for The Show because I know I get the value back. But if it's basically the cost of a Gamepass subscription and I don't have to deal with the rigamarole of uploading/downloading my franchise then it's a no brainer.

If that holds true this may be the first year I skip release and I have paid for every version from the beginning!

This game still does not look anywhere near what a sports game on PS5 should look like.

The great gameplay improvements every year is just not enough for me anymore.

                Makes me sad!

LOL it is digital!!! how does one 'import' a digital game and change you more?? just so you know our digital version of games is always $20 sometime $30 more then physical copies but MLB the show we NEVER get a physical copy so I don't want hear that excuse either.

my trick is to use my US account and pay for the game and I save a lot of money that way buying amazon PSN cards.

I'm also in that same boat. Once NCAA drops MLBTS will be on the back burner for me depending on what develops next year.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Microsoft wants a baseball game for gamepass and is fine just taking a fraction of the microtransaction money; they just want gamepass subscriptions, period. Playstation wants to kling to the business model of previous generations.

As someone who used to buy The Show day one on playstation for like a decade, getting this game on gamepass is like getting 6 mo of gamepass + the show for the cost of what I would have gotten the Show for. That’s the beauty of gamepass. Only 2 good day one games a year, and it pays for itself. On the otherhand, if it weren’t for gamepass, I’d never buy this game day one anymore, franchise hasn’t evolved since like the PS3, its getting beyond ridiculous how long its been since they’ve done anything with it and still are charging 70 for a roster update. I haven’t played the Show more than a month after its release in years. So it being on gamepass now serves more of like a trial for me to get my baseball fix in early in the year until I get bored of the same franchise experience and quit before May.

I didn't have a game console for 2 1/2 years and I wanted a PS5 for my birthday in 2020, but I said 2022's birthday I am getting a gaming console no matter what. I didn't pay for the scalping or the bundles for PS5. I got my Xbox Series S for $239 on Black Friday, my birthday is December 1st, so I get the incentive of taking advantage of the deals just on this alone.

I did my research on Xbox Series X/S and I had no idea about Game Pass, but I kept hearing about it. I got the monthly deal for $1. I compared PS Plus and Game Pass (I got Ultimate) and it is not even a contest with the subscription services. Hundreds of games for multiple gaming systems, you get day one access to AAAs and more, WTF?

Getting my Xbox Series S was the best birthday gift I ever given myself plus the 18 games I got for Black Friday, and I got some free stuff because I am in a rewards program at my apartment, so I bought a Shock Blue controller and two charge kits with rewards points that I didn't pay a dime for.

Long story short, I got to play MLB the Show 22 for free. I was going to do the two-year cycle for these games and now I don't have to buy the games at all if they keep putting them on Game Pass. I was going to buy MLB the Show 23, but why now? I don't have to invest 70 dollars plus tax. I will just WWE 2K23 now since that comes out a week or two before this.

We now have a choice on Xbox Series X/S, we can spend the money on the game or play it as a trial or keep it as long as you have the subscription. I have more control of my purchases now and the games are now 70 so I can pick and choose what games are worth it. This game is worth the money to me, but I am going to vote with my wallet again and not buy it. I am going to play the hell out of it for the next two years unless 24 is finally next gen.

Competition is good, so is having options. The best financial decision I ever made in my life too is getting Series S and Game Plus Ultimate. Also, I do online surveys so I just pay my subscription with it. Just 4 or 5 days doing online surveys, that's $16.29, easy decision!

You don't get it for free you are paying a monthly subscription just to play a licence. I understand the mentality here what people think as free but over the long term it all added up to what you would pay anyway for a physical owned copy.

I mean do you pay to get netflix for free too?

You bring this up all the time, man. Nobody thinks they’re literally getting games for free - they all know it’s part of a service they’re subscribing to.
