Talking about old gen visuals…the “breadcrums” on the dirt were added as a next gen feature when the ps4 came out. Now I wasn’t blown away back then but now coming in on the 3rd year on the ps5 and it hasn’t changed one bit.


I think it might even look better without the random breadcrums on top of the tarmac like infield.

This comparison I made highlights a number of improvements to the look of uniforms. First of all just getting an new overall style, with the collar and looser fitting pants is a new template. They've even added old-style equipment like the glove and cleats. The texture is much more apparent and looks like it is actually made of wool. The older model looks like clay in comparison. The cloth also appears to sit on the body much more naturally and doesn't look stiff or bulky.

Still have yet to see how it animates but from these stills, it already looks like a massive improvement. Excited to see if they've added real-time cloth simulation so it can react to movement or even the wind realistically. Overall I'm very happy with how this looks, considering the look of the uniforms in previous games never looked great to me. Good job SDS

Thank you OP for posting these comparison shots. I had, of course, noticed the added old time gear, baggy pants, and collared jerseys, but hadn't really noticed the general uniform improvements.

But seeing those shots of MBTS22 next to MLBTS23 really makes the improvement stand out!

Of course, I'm eager to see these uniform improvements present in other game modes other than just this Storylines mode.

These new jerseys are looking pretty phenomenal. Too bad the grass and dirt didn't get any love from graphic designers on those screens.

Fingers still crossed over here that next year (MLBTS24) will be the full next/current gen graphical leap. I'm hoping that this is the last year that this game is held back by last gen consoles.

Video games are going to continue being held back until developers leave the past in the past.

XSX, and especially PS5, are going to be much easier to cop in the next 12 months leading up to the release of MLBTS24, so millions of people will have current gen consoles in their homes.

SDS will still be able to do crossplay between XSX and PS5. You can tell that they really love to beat the crossplay drum now between old gen and current gen, but time to move on. Let's focus on the future.

I can't understand how they could have new uniform models for the Negro Leagues but not also do the same for the MLB/MiLB. Yes, it would have to be an additional template from the Negro League one to account for the modern unis, but the latter would be applied to all modern teams. It wouldn't be that much more work.

I'm hoping there's still a chance they do so, but if they don't, that would be very disappointing.

Cloth physics is not a deal-breaker for me but a noticeable change in the regular uniforms from last year absolutely is. I've got enough other stuff to play if the negro league uniforms look really good but the modern stuff still looks basically the same as it did on PS3.

I'm also of the mindset that the cover athlete reveal trailer might have been using quite an old build of the game (basically MLBTS22 build with updated MLBTS23 branding).

Hopefully we'll see some nice gameplay of the newer build of the game during some of these upcoming Developer Deep Dives.

And speaking of the updated uniforms present in the Storylines game mode, hopefully these uniforms really do have some nice cloth physics implemented.

The numbers are in the right spot on the negro league uniforms. Up between the shoulders. If that doesn’t transfer over to the Yankees uniforms I’m going to be pretty disappointed.

Can’t help but anticipate the usual suspects defending the indefensible.

If 8 players most people have never heard of is all they upgraded and the rest of the game looks like the Ian Kinsler pic, that is inexcusable.

Looking like a hard pass so far.

Yeah I’ve had enough myself. A majority of last gen games have better character models, hair, and facial animations than the Show has on current gen

That Kinsler shot is the kicker. I know some people were hoping that teaser was old footage but that pic confirms that the modern unis aren't changing.

It's honestly baffling that they would go through the trouble and put in the work to make a whole new, beautiful uniform template, only to restrict it to 8 specific players in a single mode, and not do anything to update them for the modern players that make up the vast majority of the game's content and appeal. This just proves they have the capability to do it, and still choose not to. It's a huge bummer.
