When MLB announced the new schedule last year I pretty much stopped playing 22 and am looking forward to launch day more than I have in years.

It’s that much of a game changer for me, I enjoy sports through the lens of my favorite team and playing all teams in a season will vastly increase playability for me as I considered it insanity to play almost half your schedule against 4 teams.

Besides the video game I’ll also watch and go to more games, can’t tell you how many times in the past I’ve looked at who my favorite team was playing that night, and it would be a divisional opponent they had played 95 times the last five seasons, and I’d watch something else.

I'm a 99 percent RTTS player.Started with 12. Even though I have a PS5 I don't plan on replacing 20 unless they bring back Y2Y.I'm having too much fun with my 43 year SP that is now learning how to play LF in between starts!
I'm sure SDS really doesn't care much about customers like me.We buy the game once(sometimes we even wait for a sale!) and buy nothing afterwards. In the meantime they have acquired all sorts of new DD players from the the Xbox and Switch communities who have no idea what RTTS used to be.
SDS could have kept the option to have an instant GOAT and monetized the mode for those who preferred to go that route.

I am in Year 7 of a franchise….I guess I am finding plenty of depth in franchise mode.

For me the depth is in the story’s that evolve from my roster construction.

        Scouting works
        Draft works
        All CBA rules are present

So I want more? Yeah of course. But I function fully with 30 team control and love playing the Show (20).

It needs some AI logic fixes and
Bullpen management, needs expanded rosters, bigger draft, international free agency and full league history and full minor league historical stats on the player cards.

        Not much more is needed.

Yet here we are and we have not gotten any of the things I mentioned above which this community (and the franchise community in general) have asked for over a decade now.

        Oh well.

Back to the joy in my life that is MLB 20.

          Ok….I can almost assure you:

          No expanded rosters
          No international Free Agency
          No historical minor league stats
          No League history page.

That’s how confident I am non of those things have been added.

If one of those is added…just one…we would have already known.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Road to the Show & Face Scan Details Revealed

I'm going to focus on the RTTS aspect of the stream and save my thoughts on the rest of game for now but all in all, this stream was really underwhelming.

I stepped away from RTTS when they introduced the Ballplayer, Archetypes, Perks and all the other junk they added. Relationships, mini games, generic podcast clips. Bringing this into DD ruined the mode and took away the fun and grind. The equipment makes no sense. Why would I wear diamond Nike Batting gloves and Diamond Under Armour cleats? No player in baseball mismatches their brands, there should be equipment sponsors that you earn as your progress. In the minors, you are given silver everything, pick a brand. Make an all-star team and you get gold. Win MVP and you can start wearing diamond equipment. Better yet, if you like how a diamond cleat looks more than a silver cleat, you should be able to keep the diamond attributes and still wear the silver model.

The old style of RTTS was so much more engaging and fun to me when you played the games, you earned points and you decided where to allocate those points. The transition to a simple "storyline" when compared to other games was comical, a voice actor when the other games had actual conversations and cutscenes.

Having "+Vis" pop up on the screen every time I take a ball, or a red box appear over a pitcher every time I got a hit is such a horrible eyesore. Not only that, those big bulky challenge completed overlays that happen when you reach base without swinging at a ball outside of the strike zone. I couldn't imagine if I was at 2,999 career hits, got a dynamic challenge and that thing popped up during my 3,000th career hit.

No impactful gameplay taking place before the draft to build up a story or type of player you want to be. I purposefully tanked the showcase and first year of AA ball and still made it to AAA in my first season as an 18-year-old. Being rushed to the big leagues is not something I want personally. I want to grind the minors and when I'm ready, give me a chance to fail.

In conclusion, I will be playing my version of RTTS again, until they overhaul the direction they take this mode. I put my created player in a franchise file, player lock all of their games like you would do in RTTS, however, I pick my team, equipment, my screen is clean from any clutter, I don't worry about dynamic challenges throughout a game or the AI trading away our top player/prospects, I determine when I get called up to MLB, if I see fit for an attribute change, I upgrade, if not, natural progression will make sure my stats increase over time based on my stats.

Just really sad about how they've handled their most popular mode (as of a few years ago)

The best gameplay at it's not close? Yeah I don't think so. SMB3 is much more fun. Especially the fielding, it's miles better than the show. I also enjoy the hitting more in SMB3, though them putting pitch speed and hitting difficulty together ultimately ruined the game for us. But I still play SMB3 every now and then. Show usually gets played a little bit each year because it's free. It might be more realistic than SMB3, but it sure the hell isn't as fun.

Oh and when I pop out or miss my pitch. I know exactly why in SMB3. Instead of perfect perfect that are lazy fly outs for some reason. Or releasing a pitch late that some how makes it go right down the middle instead of low and outside for some dumb *** reason.

Seems RTTS has really lost popularity, I’m not seeing it discussed much at all on message boards like it used to be.

I absolutely loved this mode 08 to 17, it’s about all I played. I put up with it 18 to 20 when archetypes were added and then couldn’t take it anymore when they tied it to DD in 21.

I’m curious why SDS gutted this mode and put in features most RTTS fans didn’t want, it’s like they didn’t ask anyone why they were playing the mode.

As someone who has played the NBA 2k version, it just seems to be a rinse and repeat, essentially losing luster IMO. Even 2k adds stuff to their mode but it seems like after 10 years of playing the same thing, kinda gets stale.

Simple, because an RTTS players isn't going to drop a couple hundred to over a thousand dollars the day the game drops the same way a Diamond Dynasty only player might. It's why EA, and 2K put so much resources into their card collecting modes, the revenue they generate is absolutely insane, so when these devs decide what gets worked on during the dev cycle, it's absolutely no surprise when these modes get most of the love year after year. Seriously, how long did it take for SDS to even try to do something with franchise mode? And guess what? There's still no awards page on player cards, and for some crazy reason, I still can only see the 3 previous award winners. I'll stop here before I go on a complete rant about how low effort franchise mode is.

                      TL;DR
                      Money.

These games with the card packs and gambling should be rated Adults only 18+. In theory this would dry up the customer base where the gaming companies had to go back to improving franchise modes.

Will never happen, ESRB not doing this is as bad as Fannie/Freddie slapping AAA on mortgage backed securities in the 2000’s.

One has to wonder if their continued neglect (and some might argue degradation) of the RTTS mode is to justify not putting much money into it. SDS can just point to the hours played (and revenue generated) and shrug their shoulders.
The new customers coming from from XBOX have no idea how engaging a mode RTTS used to be so they certainly aren't going to complain much.
SDS could earn SOME money if they brought back stubbs for those who want a GOAT on day 1(Full disclosure-not me).Y2Y saves is also a deal breaker.
I really hope I'm wrong and SDS is working hard behind the scenes with great(not half baked) plans for RTTS If not then 20 is my last purchase.Life goes on.

Of course there is, both are badly faulted ratings where it causes a certain subset of the population money and benefits another.
