I'm 7 years in to an A's franchise on '20. Still get my kicks. If it's the same franchise mode/game every year, why upgrade? Your wallet is the only thing that matters to them. Vote with it.

I know people don’t want to hear this, but don’t expect much at all, if anything from the franchise stream aside from the new playoff format, scheduling, rules, and a watered down version of the new CBA.

RTTS and franchise mode are not on their priority list for this game and they’ve shown that for over half a decade now. The franchise mode is the most shallow in all of sports games (yes, more shallow than Maddens) and it isn’t even close.

DD is the MAIN focus of this game and it will continue to be every single year. DD makes them so much money it will always be their number 1 focus. The same thing is happening in Madden and has been for awhile.

2K is the exception to the rule. They have their card collecting mode but they also have the deepest franchise mode in the history of sports games. Not to mention the WNBA, the jordan challenges and the ability to literally recreate NBA history. It’s not even close.

People don’t want to accept the fact that this game has become as stagnant and stale as madden has, but it’s the truth. The on field gameplay in Madden is as best as it’s EVER been and it’s not even debatable, but outside of MUT, the other parts of the game are so shallow, so uninspiring, it’s just boring.

If you’re not playing DD on MLB The Show, and you need more than just great gameplay to keep you engaged, the game has become stagnant and boring. If all you need is gameplay, good for you, you’ll love this years game again.

But if you don’t play DD and you need the meat and potatoes of RTTS and franchise mode, you’re going to be disappointed. People want to hang Madden at the stake for never innovating and having a boring as hell franchise mode, and it’s time to start doing the same with SDS and this product.

They don’t innovate, hell, they barely even update or upgrade existing modes at this point. Let’s call a spade a spade… they deserve the exact same criticism the Madden team gets. Hell, at least Madden has updated their player models and the game is absolutely beautiful to look at on next gen. SDS can’t even be bothered to do that.

I’ll be getting the game because I love Diamond dynasty now, partly because I forced myself to try it out because franchise and RTTS are so lifeless and stale. If I was still a strictly franchise guy I’d be skipping this year and wouldn’t think twice about it.

I know it’s blasphemous around these parts to compare this dev team to EA Sports, but you have to be honest with yourselves. Madden plays a great game on the field just like MLB The Show does on the Diamond, but they’ve done NOTHING to update, upgrade or innovate their offline modes.

Thinking back to when I first bought a PS3 just for this game, I cannot believe this is where we are in 2023. People are still playing MLB 20 because it’s basically the same game, with more features for the offline crowd.

      If that doesn’t scream madden-esque stagnation, I don’t know what does …
Keep in mind not everyone enjoys the same things. I couldn't stand the last two years of madden even though it was beautiful to look at, the gameplay on the field wasn't enough to keep me around.

The show franchise mode and on the field gameplay keeps my buying every year and playing it year round.

That doesn't mean I think its a flawless game by any means. But there must be a reason why I stay invested in my franchise for so long.

Because they have made changes to franchise mode that I appreciate and the gameplay now trumps ‘20 imo

Re: MLB The Show 23 Road to the Show & Face Scan Details Revealed

Let's not kid ourselves here. While Madden may have the best gameplay it's ever had, it's not as good as The Show's gameplay with respect to each sport.

Madden plays a good and solid game of football on the field, and The Show plays a stellar game of baseball on the field. It's really not even close. And this is coming from someone who enjoys Madden's gameplay.

I have always, and forever will be a gameplay first guy, and will forever and always be a baseball nut. So for me, the tech test showed enough gameplay improvement to buy the game this year.

I am hopeful for a deep franchise mode, but I also know that isn't going to be, and never will be the main focus of this game. So hopefully they give us just enough to make it exciting for a while.

If anyone doesn't feel like 23 is a worthy upgrade, then more power to you. Vote with your wallet, but in the end, the money in your wallet will never add up to the ridiculous amount of money they make with DD. And that will always be the primary focus of this game whether we like it or not.

Could not agree more anyone expecting anything remotely exciting next week will be very disappointed.

23 will be nothing more then a big “patch” instead of an actual major new version.

But yeah...MLBTS is worse than Madden

Yea I don’t think the situations are comparable.

To me madden is improved but it was an awful game for awhile and now it’s not but there’s still too many issues for me to really enjoy it. In really every area, gameplay, franchise, presentation. Incompetence is the problem not stagnation.

The show is still an amazing game but resting on its laurels. Which in a way is more frustrating because they already have the hard part done you would think they could go all out adding more bells and whistles and really fleshing it out. But at the end of the day you can play an awesome baseball game whether it’s sticking with a previous version or deciding the new one is worth the upgrade.

Both sports suffer from lack of competition but with football I’d be hoping for 2k to make a game so I could buy that instead, with baseball I’d want 2k or ea to make a game to push the show to be better, but I doubt I’d be making the switch any time soon

another thing most people may consider small that is new is this years schedule.
I'm deeply anticipating it as it's a huge selling point for me.
I'm sure I'll play a lot less Play Now games because I'll have every team on my schedule in one long and glorious season

                        I just saw the stream.

Isn't the use of the companion app a bit of a "privacy" concern for people? I couldn't care less about that kind of thing often, but if they collected telemetry data from my button presses unknowingly for years, you can bet they're also receiving every photo we take as well. It's not quite the same thing as the PS2 Eye here.

Anyway, just something I thought I'd bring up. Doesn't faze me, but it did draw my attention.

For me…. Id buy every year just for the new face scans. I can’t stand playing with CAPS. But that’s just me.

We kill madden but at lest they try stuff. It might be buggy and broken but they try. This update is like me with no experience programming. I really think a 5 hour crash course could have netted these results lol

Given that they were Sony branded, they had Move usage and 3D in the past. Hell, that's VR to me. They also adapted to the Vita as Madden did.

They try a lot of things, though. They stuck with Y2Y saves for several years where no other studio has yet to, and their ambition in taking things like community days, audio names, stadium requests, and overall feedback shows transparency at its finest (especially when they livestream their game showing debugging onscreen code).

Their main issue right now though is the same as EA's: money talks. Ultimate Team modes have consumed both groups, and now SDS has also expanded to Microsoft and Nintendo as well. If they were just on the PS5 (not even PS4) and online gambling wasn't allowed (throwing money toward an unknown outcome to gain a competitive advantage), we'd be seeing a whole different kind of product.

Something tells me that they are responding to higher powers for these kinds of things though, and I will bookend this bringing up the Move and 3D again. It's not that they wouldn't ever do those for themselves, but you absolutely know those were mandates from Sony.

RTTS would work perfectly for an online Park/Streets mode. Just make sandlot games the money they could make from selling cosmetics or maybe even building your own sandlot would attract a lot of players.
