Re: MLB The Show 23 Trade Discussion

Alright, so I am the White Sox and I am looking into the possibility of trading Dylan Cease. Here is the context:

We are at the end of July and are currently 37-68, which is 26 games behind the first place Twins. The Cubs are 60-44, which has them in first place of the NL Central (by 6.5 games over the Cardinals).

    The Cubs would get:

    SP Dylan Cease - 27 years old - 92 overall - A potential - Currently has a 2.16 ERA and a 7-6 record.

    The White Sox would get:

    CF Pete Crow-Armstrong - 21 years old - 69 overall - A potential - Currently in AAA
    1B Matt Mervis - 24 years old - 68 overall - B potential - Currently in AAA
    SP Cade Horton - 21 years old - 68 overall - B potential - Currently in AAA

Another possible trade I was looking into was with the Cardinals, who are 54-51 (6.5 games behind the Cubs in the Central, and 2.5 games behind the Marlins in the Wild Card).

    The Cardinals would get:

    SP Dylan Cease - 27 years old - 92 overall - A potential - Currently has a 2.16 ERA and a 7-6 record.

    The White Sox would get:

LF Jordan Walker - 20 years old - 69 overall - A potential - Currently batting .277 with 4 HRs and 15 RBIs in the majors
    C Ivan Herrera - 22 years old - 64 overall - B potential - Currently batting .252 with 1 HR and 14 RBIs in the majors
    SP Tick Hence - 20 years old - 65 overall - B potential - Currently in A ball

Do either of these seem like a good deal for both teams?

My 2 cents : I feel like no chance the Cardinals would trade Walker at this point.

I also feel like the Cubs wouldn't make that trade since they're sort of in rebuild mode and they love PCA.

CWS are a great candidate for a rebuild though, have you considered locking up Cease long term and building the pitching staff around him?

Yes, I have definitely considered that, and it could easily end up being the way that I go. I just figured trading Cease would give me an opportunity to jump-start my rebuild by getting a few significant pieces.

Totally get it. I tend to think of what the other team would do when seeking trades. Unrealistic trades tend ruin my franchise experience.

thread is very dead. i think a big reason of what killed it off was having those with the "this trade works/doesn't work and youre wrong if you disagree" posters sitting around here so long in the past, too much reliance on BTV instead of opinions.

Or, people just don't use it as often?

With the website I posted in the first post, it makes it easier to see a fair deal without gathering others' opinions.

This thread was at its peak when we were all about data and doing our thing, giving opinions.

I don't think anyone ever said you're wrong if you disagree... There were just a lot of, "Well, I'm going to do it anyway!" Which got annoying and wasn't the point of this thread.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Trade Discussion

I have a really stupid question, but I've only been in baseball for three years
I decided to roll a 30 teams control franchise because I'm just sick of seeing stupid cpu trades
but and now the question is how do I trade sensibly
I'm feeling a little lost on how to go about it. I am aware that teams that are not doing well halfway through the season often give up players to prepare for the future, but how should I approach the whole thing so that it is realistic..
                    90s player for 3 prospects or 2
                    80's 2-1 prospects etc
Or to put it another way, how do you go about it?
it's actually more about between cpu and cpu trades

Are you looking to make trades on behalf of the cpu or do you just want to know which trades to reverse?

I thought about taking it over completely for the cpu because I personally think it makes little to no sense
maybe I feel the same way
Of course I let myself be taught a better one

i did a few test runs until the deadline to check if the behavior of the cpu has improved

let me give you an example, the orioles gave up their three best players for absolute rubbish and they did extremely well halfway through the season

i was already completely in a franchise with the tigers but without 30 team control but i quickly felt the bad trade behavior there so i said i can't continue playing like this

I'm looking for house rules or tips on how to approach this

                        forgive my bad english

I use 30 team control, but have the CPU stuff set to "Auto". I find that by letting the CPU do it's own thing on minor trades, it creates a bit more action on the waiver-wire.

Any time that I see a top prospect or major piece moving, I'll reverse it, or, alternatively if the acquisition makes sense, I'll work out the value going back and make it work.

For deadline stuff, I usually do a quick list of "Buyers" and "sellers", and typically move players that are on expiring contracts. If the CPU does something by itself, I'll review it with the same parameters as above.

I also try not to make prospect for prospect trades, because they're extremely rare in real life.

The most important thing (IMO) is before completing any trades (Whether it's CPU to CPU, or Human to CPU), "Why would the other team do this?", or "Does this prospect fill a hole, or should it be a prospect from another position?". For example, someone like Baltimore isn't likely going to acquire a top catching prospect over a top pitching prospect.

Value-wise, I typically use baseballtradevalues.com, but you kind of have to be a bit loose with their rating system because it doesn't take into account the players production in game (ratings are currently as of May 1st).

                          Hope this helps!

I think I can work with that

can i ask you another question about 30 teams that has less to do with trades

in order to see the game ticker on the screen, you have to have simulated the games of the cpu beforehand, right?

Is there a difference in the results if I press the simulate per individual
or should I do without the ticker and simulate the entire day of play after my match with "advance the next day"
                            ???
                            Or is there a difference
I tested around a bit and had the feeling that if I simulate the games of the cpu individually, I often have games in the high point range

I might be wrong, do you have any experience with this or how do you go about it?

For realism’s sake. What prospects should be considered untouchable in trades? I generally operate on the idea of common sense ( a team isn’t gonna trade a generational CF when they have a glaring hole at CF)

                              But what else applies?

Got a question about the Braves.

I'm using the Live roster w/ the Tatis update, and I'd like to move off of Ozuna for off-the-field reasons.

I'd be perfectly happy getting anyone in the 65 OVR + range with DH platoon potential in return, so I'm wondering who some good targets might be to fill that role on the team, and I'm wondering what teams might benefit from adding Ozuna, in a world where they're not concerned about the history.

Thanks in advance for the thoughts!
