Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
After 30 games into my franchise playing every inning, my biggest gripe is the CPU hitting is very weak. I really don't fear any CPU hitter during my game, I could be rolling with a 65 ovr reliever vs Trout and expect to strike him out. I feel like I only give up crooked #'s when I'm actively trying to get them to hit the ball hard.
I usually wait a month into franchise before messing with sliders but I've already notched up CPU hitting a few clicks in hopes of having pitching be more of a challenge. I play on Legend - Classic with fade marker.Seattle Pilots GM (2011 - ) Record: 152 - 195

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
205 hours later, I have to say It's the most fun I had with MLB The Show since MLBTS20. The game seems to match my liking, and I've found a balance easily with the way I play the game.
I only play RTTS. I have 8 players and I roll around playing a series with one, then switching to the other.
I don't remember who wrote this, but I had difficulties with the hitting sliders (I only play hitters) and someone told to go with All-Star and tweak a bit a few ones. Since then, all his fine for me.
There's improvements needed, MLBTS 23 ain't perfect, but with the custom stadiums, the variety of equipments and the fun I have, there's a chance MLBTS 24 will be skipped.
Biggest gripes with RTTS? Support from players around, that run mayhem after an error, and the stale commentary. Turning them off is the way to go for me."Ice hockey is a form of disorderly conduct in which the score is kept." - Doug LarsonComment

I miss the days of players playing to ratings and being able to manage games and be GM.
MLBTS has become a online video baseball game. The days of Sim baseball are gone.Really wish sports games played to ratings!
Only thing SIM about sports games now, are the team name and players
CFB 25 The absolute GOAT!!!
MLB 23 FOREVER 20 is better, 23 just for Guardians
Madden get rid of the extras (SS/XF, HFA, media, scenarios, game plan) or turn them down considerably.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
Before one of the recent Shows, I had not played a baseball game since MLB 2K7. I've been in the Xbox ecosystem for so long, and had not owned a PlayStation since the PS2, so I was excited for The Show when I found out it was on Game Pass when I returned to playing video games after a lengthy hiatus.
Solid gameplay. I dislike the dull announcers. The play-by-play guy reminds me of the way people used to whine online about Joe Buck announcing games, because he's dull. I audibly laughed out loud when one of my games culminated in an 11th inning walk-off homer and he dryly said, "And this will end in a walk-off." LMAO. Commentary lines became repetitive by the second game. That's always a factor in sports games, however, so not a big deal, but my goodness but the play-by-play and color guy are terribly boring. I miss Jon Miller and the late Joe Morgan.
I used to play MVP Baseball and the 2K baseball games online, but I don't think I'll ever bother with The Show because my skill level, from having not played a baseball game from half my life ago, is in the dumpster. The PCI zone hitting is something I tried picking up on for hours in practice mode, but I could never get the hang of it. Don't even get me started on pinpoint pitching; I think it's horrid. However, The Show pros online, who I suspect have been playing the game loyally for years, make it look like second nature controls. I don't have the discipline to become obsessed with learning the hitting or the pitching to the point of being able to play online.
Road to the Show is a major disappointment. It's such a dull, barebones mode. There's no layers to it, or am I wrong? I can't stand the awful story and storylines from NBA 2K, but at least in some respects it feels lively. Road to the Show doesn't have any juice to it. I feel like the studio could pack so much into this mode and make it feel like you are really living it up as a ball player trying to grind your career up to the majors, but it just feels so empty and bland. I thought it would be a highlight of the game. I was mistaken.
Haven't started a franchise. I've played some of the March to October mode. Had a good time with it.
Diamond Dynasty is OK. I'm a casual player of modes like that. Could never bring myself to spend actual money on it when it doesn't carry over from year to year. DD seems to be much more user friendly than Madden and NBA 2K when it comes to giving high quality cards with minimal grinding.
C+ game is my personal grade. Fun. I'm glad it's on Xbox Game Pass and I didn't spend money on it, though. It just doesn't reel me in like I expected it to.
I have been having a lot more fun playing Super Mega Baseball 4. What's sad is that I wrote the SMB games off for years, because I figured the were cartoony arcade caricatures of baseball, but in all actuality it's pure fun and that's why I prefer it to The Show, and I can't believe I'm saying that. Even the online play is smooth and a total blast! Especially because the matchmaking is dead on at putting you up against other players at your subjective skill level. I enjoy its fast paced setting. No fluff, no frills, no BS. Still enjoy The Show, moderately, however, but being away from baseball gaming for over a decade and a half put me back into a newbie category when I was semi-competitive in baseball gaming in 2007.Last edited by ClassActFan; 06-13-2023, 09:17 PM.Comment

Am I the only one that hates the new options layout? I spend like 5 minutes trying to find what I’m looking for. No idea why they changed it.Comment

I had Clyde behind the plate again in my series opener vs the Cubs.
Leadoff at bat with Trea Turner, clear ball 4 called a strike and I pop up the next pitch. He missed at least 6 calls throughout the game. I thought he was calling more low pitches strikes and then as I’m closing it out, he called a clear ball on the outside for Strike 3 to my benefit.
I give up on figuring out his pattern. The Show clearly does a good job programming him to be a terrible umpire even if I struggle to figure out the others.Last edited by phenom1990; 06-18-2023, 10:07 AM."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
I'm not debating, just making an observation: It's easy to be critical of ball/strike calls on television (video games) thanks to that box. You take that box away and it depends on which dugout you're in whether it's a good call or not. I find myself squawking at a call that misses by millimeters whether I'm sitting in my recliner or 500 feet away from home plate.I had Clyde behind the plate again in my series opener vs the Cubs.

But, then you have the Clydes and Angels and CBs...
I guess my point is what you said, you give up figuring out Clyde's pattern is what makes baseball special. There's good calls and bad calls depending which seat you're in.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
I bought the game for PS5 so mostly play on that. I do have gamepass for my Series S as well (got Series S for Halo and the Bethesda exclusives going forward) and I gotta say, I think this game plays better on the Series S than on the PS5. Just the input and way it plays just feels like a better game
PS5 is smoother for sure, but otherwise I prefer the Series SComment

I'm not a baseball fan AT ALL. But, since The Show is on Game Pass I figured I'd download it and try RTTS. It's pretty fun actually. Now I need to decide if I want to buy it for the Switch before the sale ends tonight. It's 30 bucks.

I tried on the Switch during the Open Beta, it's MUCH lower quality.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Impressions (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5)
I upgraded from PS4 to PS5 over the weekend. I feel like the sound of the ball coming off the bat was way better on PS4. I do enjoy the quicker load times and lack of lag on the cutscenes though. I can’t tell if it’s from not playing for two weeks or playing on a different system but my timing is way offComment
