Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

My 2024 Nationals season is continuing to move at a snail's pace...I can't even remember when I last updated but I've completed like 6 games since then...winning 2 of three against the D-Backs and just barely winning the final game in a three game series against the Astros.

The Nationals are now 66-63 and hold the second Wild Card position, but San Diego, Philadelphia and Miami are all within a game.

In other news, our starting catcher Keibert Ruiz has been lost for the rest of the year. We have called up 2023 fourth round pick Damien Thompson to replace him. He is splitting time with Wilmer Perez, and while both are decent behind the plate, neither can be expected to replace Ruiz's bat.

2024 Pittsburgh Pirates NLCS Game 4

      Final Score:
      Dodgers-6
      Pirates-1

Dodgers stave off elimination with game four victory

Well, it wont be a sweep. Lucas Giolito and the Dodgers held off the sweep with a game four victory in the NLCS. Giolito was great as he pitched six innings and struck out eight Pirate hitters.

Mookie Betts got the game rolling in the first inning as he took a Blake Snell pitch deep for his second HR of the postseason and 2nd in the last two games.

The Pirates were able to tie it up in the top of the third when Endy Rodriguez knocked in Yoennis Sherry who doubled earlier in the inning.

The Dodgers took the lead back in the bottom of the third and didnt look back as Giolito and company did what was necessary to hold off any Pirate attack.

The Pirates will again look to wrap it up as the two teams head to game five.

        APRIL 15-17, 2024: ROSWELL (11-8) @ FLAGSTAFF (10-10)
        Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 13,406)

        April 15: Hops 8, Aliens 6
        April 16: Hops 2, Aliens 0
        April 17: Hops 3, Aliens 1

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - Flagstaff broke out of their early season doldrums with a sweep of the Roswell Aliens.

On Jackie Robinson Day, the Hops rallied late for an 8-6 victory top open their series against the Aliens. The Hops and Aliens combined for 10 home runs in a game with a gusty wind blowing straight out to center.

Flagstaff would open the game up with a solo home run from Robbie Westbrook, his first on the year. Josh Ortega would add a solo shot late rin the first as Flagstaff went up 2-0.

The Aliens would tie it up on back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth from Blake Pacinelli and Danny Watson. But a two-run home run from Roberto Geronimo in the bottom half put the Hops back up, 4-2.

The Aliens would then hit three solo home runs in the sixth off of Juro Yamaguchi. Steve Fuzz and Blake Pacinelli hit back-to-back shots to open the inning to tie the game, and then one out later, Hudson homered to put the visitors in front 5-4.

Roswell would add yet another solo home run in the top of the seventh as Justin Gellman hit his first on the season to extend the Aliens lead to 6-4.

But the Hops, who have struggled all year at the plate, got the offense going in the bottom of the eighth off of Aaron Moore, making his 2024 debut. He would strike out Robbie Westbrook to open the inning, but walked Isaac Nettles. Josh Ortega would single to left before Art Mason flew out to center. Roberto Geronimo then came through with a clutch two-out, two-run double to tie the game at 6-6. Kunzia then came on in relief of Moore and Donnie Roland hit his first pitch deep over the wall in right to put the Hops up 8-6.

Vic Miller would come on and send the Aliens down 1-2-3 in the ninth to pick up his third save on the season. Samuel Espinoza (1-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen, pitching the eighth inning and sending the Aliens down in order.

On Tuesday evening, the Hops used five pitchers and came away with a 2-0 victory over the Aliens. Alex Farmer (3-0) picked up the win, going 5.2 innings and allowing just on ehit while striking out five and walking two. He lowered his ERA to 1.35.

The Hops would break a scoreless tie in the fifth inning on a weird play. Robbie Westbrook doubled to right with the bases loaded. But since it was a high fly ball, thye runners had to hold up until it hit the ground. Oscar Aleman scored, but Bradley York was thrown out at the plate and Forrest Owen got thrown out in a rundown. The Hops managed just one run in the inning.

In the seventh, the Aliens would load the bases with no outs on back-to-back singles from Blake Pacinelli and Danny Watson and a walk from Damien Hudson. But Pedro Macias had to leave the game with an arm injury. Oliver Benedict cam eon and struck out the side to get out of the jam.

The Hops would get a big insurance run in the eighth on a Josh Ortega RBI double.

Vic Miller would come on and set the Aliens down in order to pick up his fourth save.

Zach Richards (2-2) took the loss for Roswell, tossing seven innings and allowing just one run (none earned) while striking out three and walking two.

In Wednesday afternoon's finale, the Hops hit three solo home runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally for a 3-1 victory.

Ramon Garcia was scratched in pre-game warmups so Kenneth Valdez got the start and he was great, pitching five innings and allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out seven and not issuing a walk. The lone run allowed was a Blake Pacinelli solo home run in the second inning, his sixth on the year.

Samuel Espinoza (2-1) came on in relief and tossed three shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two. Vic Miller came on and worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his fifth save on the season and third of the series.

Hendricks pitched into the eighth, but gave up a lead off solo home run to Roberto Geronimo (5) that ended his afternoon. Robert Yamada came on in relief and surrendered solo home runs to Oscar Aleman (2) and Forrest Owen (1).

Roswell has now lost six of seven after starting the season 10-2.

The Hops (10-10) will have Thursday off before hosting Prescott (10-9) in a three game weekend series to close off the home stand. They will play Roswell again next week on the road.

Around the League: Gus Woodson improved to (3-0) as Surprise got by Scottsdale 4-3 on Monday evening. Woodson tossed seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits for the first place Saguaros. Ricardo Rodriguez keyed the offense with a three-run home run in the third, his second on the season.

Randy Klaus homered and drove in five as Fort Worth won a 12-7 slugfest over St George at Globe Life Park. The Kings pounded out fifteen hits and hit four home runs in the victory.

Scottsdale knocked out 23 hits and scored 21 runs in a 21-3 victory over Surprise on Tuesday evening. Rudy Powell went 4 for 7 with two home runs and seven RBIs to lead the offensive onslaught for the Scorpions in a first-place battle in the DL Central. The Saguaros jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning on a Ken Hollinger three-run home run, then watched as Scottsdale scored the final 21 runs.

Felix Ramirez went 5 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs as Scottsdale defeated Surprise 9-0 to tie the Saguaros atop the DL Central.

Mikey Fisher went 2 for 5 with a double and home run to extend his hitting streak to 20 games in St George's 8-0 victory over Fort Worth. The Archers hit five home runs in the victory.

Salt Lake scored four times in the bottom of the ninth to rally for a 5-4 victory over Amarillo to run their winning streak to five games as they sit atop the ML West. Darell McCloud's two-run home run with two-outs in the ninth won it in walk-off fashion for the Chukars.

2024 Pittsburgh Pirates NLCS Game 5

          Final Score:
          Pirates-8
          Dodgers-1

Pirates are headed to the world series!

The Pirates beat the Dodgers four games to one in the NLCS and are headed to their first world series since 1979. The Pirates will face off with either the Blue Jays or Guardians. Toronto is currently ahead in the ALCS, 3-1.

Oneil Cruz again had a leadoff homerun in the Pirates game five clinching win. That is is second this postseason and both games have been the team's highest scoring (last was 7-4 victory in game 3). The Dodgers did tie the game in the 2nd inning after a Will Smith double and an Edward Olivares triple but from there, the Pirates dominated.

Roansy Contrearas started the game and pitched six strong as he struck out eight and allowed just three hits. Oneil Cruz and Yoennis Sherry were the top producers at the plate with Cruz and his two rbi's and Sherry and his three.

Sherry is interesting as he was the Pirates #1 overall pick in 2023. He only played one game in the 2024 regular season but was called up for the playoffs and he has been really good. His .346 BA is second on the team only to another rookie (who had a rough regular season) Termarr Johnson with his .370.

          ALCS Game 5
          Blue Jays-6

          Blue Jays win series 4-1

2024 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Game 1

            Final Score:
            Pirates-1
            Blue Jays-0

Pirates win in typical Pirate fashion

Julio Urias and Alek Manoah were superb in game one of the 2024 World Series. The only difference was the Pirates had some great at bats that led to Manoah pitching just 5.1 innings.

Urias pitched 8 full as he allowed just 3 hits,1 walk and struck out 9.

The only offense was an eighth inning homerun by none other then the Pirates #9 hitter and catcher, Endy Rodriguez, his 1st of the postseason.

While the Pirates will appreciate any win that gets them one step closer to a world series victory, they would like to get more offense in game 2.

*Note* Frustration..... I dont know how or why but my ps5 reverted back to game two of the NLCS against the Dodgers. How is that possible after I saved over the file from January 6th. That same issue happened once or twice in the regular season and I just dont get it. The most frustrating part is I lose my stats...my hits my pitching...etc.

Anyway, I simulated the NLCS and made sure that I beat the Dodgers 4-1 like I did. I also made sure I faced the blue jays in the world series and that I won game one.

I just dont understand why that happnes. I even started saving two files for each save and neither could be found....any way on to game two.

2024 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Game Two

              Final Score:
              Pirates-5
              Blue Jays-0

Pirates get second consecutive shutout to take 2-0 series lead

The Pirates have now outscored the Blue Jays 6-0 in the world series. Obviously, the Pirates pitching staff has been great and Blake Snell was no different in game two. He pitched 7 innings, allowed just three hits and struck out 10.

On the other side, Kevin Gausman wasnt as good. He allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in just 4 innings of work.

CJ Cron's bat finally came alive this postseason as he posted a three hit performance to include a three run HR in the first, a double in the 3rd and a single later in the game. Unfortunately, he did not get his triple to complete the cycle.

The Pirates will look to carry this momentum as the series heads to Toronto for three.

Both teams lost significant players to pregame injuries. The Pirates lost Termarr Johnson who has been hot this post season and the Blue Jays lost Vladimir Guerrero JR. Both are expected to miss 1-2 games.

That's decidedly odd. The only thing I can speculate is that maybe the file saved on your hard drive and the one on the PSN cloud (not the one you interface with in-game) are not syncing - maybe the cloud-based one is somehow getting used instead.

Not suggesting a resolution or anything, but stuff like this always scares me as I get deeper in my franchise (not to mention CBs issue with his franchise).

Thanks for the reply. Thankfully it hasnt happened often but it is annoying when it does but yes that is a possibility. I do for whatever reason get a lot of out of synch saves between hard drive and cloud saves but those usually let me pick which one to use.

I do recall that the show couldnt connect to online features when I loaded up the game that time. Although I was signed in to PSN.

2024 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Game 3

                    Final Score:
                    Pirates-4
                    Blue Jays-2

                    Pirates lead series 3-0

Pirates will look for a sweep on Tuesday

Much like the NLCS, the Pirates find themselves up 3-0 in the World Series. The same formula of excellent pitching and enough hitting has carried the Pirates through the regular season and the playoffs to this point.

The Pirates actually got out to a hot start in game three as Oneil Cruz hit his 3rd homerun of the playoffs, on the first pitch from Jose Berrios. Anthony Santander then followed suit in the 3rd and also hit the first pitch of that inning, out of the park, his 5th.

Finally, the Pirates hit their third homerun off of Berrios in the fourth inning. That ball also came off of Santander's bat.

Roansy Contreras was good for the Pirates as he pitched 6 innings, allowing just 1 run in that 6th inning. Domingo German came in after that and also allowed a run of his own. Thankfully, Joe Jiminez and David Bednar were able to hold the Jays at bay to put the Pirates up 3-0 in the series.

The Pirates did lose game four in the NLCS before winning game 5 to advance. They will obviously be looking to close it out in game 5 this time as Jack Flaherty is set to face off with Alek Manoah who is already pitching his second game of the series.

Oneill's big day keeps Jays alive

Thanks St. Louis! The Cardinals traded Tyler Oneill to the Blue Jays in 2023 and he just about single handily kept the Blue Jays in the world series on Tuesday.

Oneill went 3 for 4 with two homeruns and four RBIs to lead Toronto to the victory in game four of the 2024 world series.

The Blue Jays got out to the early lead on Oneill's first homer of the day in the second inning.

That lead held until the Pirates had what was thought to be a magical world series clinching 7th inning. Jack Suwinski who has struggled all post season led that inning off with his second homer of the postseason. Rodolfo Castro and Andrew Mccutchen then pinch hit for Termarr Johnson and Matt Frazier and both also hit home runs to go back to back to back. At that time the Pirates took the 3-1 lead late in the game.

Oneill and company had different ideas as they scored two of their own in the bottom half of the 7th and Oneill again came through in the 9th with a two rbi walk off homerun that kept the Jays alive.

The Pirates will again look to close it out in game five when Mitch Keller faces off with Chris Bassett.

2024 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Game 5

                        Final Score:
                        Blue Jays-6
                        Pirates-0

                        Pirates lead series 3-2

They want to finish at home, right?

The 2024 World Series is headed back to Pittsburgh. The Blue Jays have now won two straight after the Pirates went up 3-0 in the series.

Game five saw Chris Bassett (Jays) and Mitch Keller (Pirates) face off. Bassitt ended up getting the better of Keller as he pitched a complete game shutout to keep the Jays' hopes alive.

Of course, Tyler Oneill was responsible for the first run of the game, a second inning rbi single that put the Jays up 1-0. That would be all they needed thanks to Bassitt's performance but they added five more in the 7th to take the lead to 6-0 and they would eventually win by that score as the Pirates never got on the board.

The Pirates are licking their wounds but now, the series will return to Pittsburgh with the home team needing just one win to lock up the series victory.

The Nationals went into a four game series with the lowly Diamondbacks looking to seperate themselves from other teams in the Wild Card hunt. Instead, they saw themselves take Game 1 on a walk off base hit from Nolan Jones only to lose the next three games, including an absolute beatdown in the finale. Josiah Gray was the unfortunate victim in that game, giving up 9 runs in just four innings of work, and it seems that the front office may let him walk at the end of the year. Gray has talent, but just hasn't been able to put it together for the Nationals.

A positive for Washington is the bat of Nolan Jones, who has driven in seven runs in just 12 games. He came to Washington from Cleveland along with Justin Dunn in exchange for Zach Davies; a trade that is looking really good for the Nats at present.

The Nationals now find themselves at 66-65 and three games back in the Wild Card hunt. They will now face the Red Sox in a quick two game series.

I would like to get back to my more detailed reports, but life has been super hectic for the past month or two so...we will see.

                            APRIL 19-21, 2024: PRESCOTT (13-9) @ FLAGSTAFF (10-13)
                            Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 13,406)

                            April 19: Hot Shots 6, Hops 5 (13)
                            April 20: Hot Shots 2, Hops 0
                            April 21: Hot Shots 2, Hops 0

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops finished off a ten game home stand by getting swept by Prescott, getting shutout in the final two games to drop three games below .500.

In the opener, the Hops rallied late to tie the game, then lost it 6-5 in thirteen innings. Ceaar Zambrano was a one man wrecking crew for the Hot Shots. He went 3 for 7 with a double, two home runs and four RBIs including the game winner in extra innings.

Prescott jumped out to a 4-0 lead in this one on two-run home runs from Noah Wilson in the second and Cesar Zambrano in the third inning.

Flagstaff would get solo home runs from Isaac Nettles and Art Mason in the sixth to cut the lead in half.

Cesar Zambrano's second home run of the game, a solo shot, in the eighth put Prescott up 5-2.

In the bottom half, Josh Ortega would hit a game-tying three-run home run to left off of reliever Mays. It was his sixth on the year and we were headed for extra innings.

In the thirteenth inning, Noah Wilson opened it up with a single to center. He was sacrificed over to send. Cesar Zambrano then doubled him home to put the Hot Shots up 6-5.

Lester Madrano came in to close the game out. He walked Isaac Nettles with one out and then got Josh Ortega to fly out to the warning track in right, before striking out Art Mason to end it. It was Medrano's fifth save on the season.

Also Osuna (0-3) took the loss, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing on run on three hits.

The Hops now have four starters hitting below .200: Robbie Westbrook (.193), David Benitez (.172), Oscar Aleman (.179) and Bradley York (.191). They are hitting .224 as a team, worst in the 30-team IBL.

On Saturday afternoon, the Hops stranded 14 runners on base including eight in scoring position in a 2-0 loss to the Hot Shots. Ken Smith (2-1) kept the Hops off balance just enough to pick up the win, tossing 6.2 innings and scattering eight hits, while striking out seven and walking two.

Prescott would grab the lead off of Ryan Pressley in the fifth with a two-out RBI single from J.J. Ruiffing. They would add a huge insurance run in the top of the ninth as Josh Carroll hit a solo home run to end Pressley's afternoon.

Pressley (1-2) was brilliant, tossing eight plus innings and allowing the two run son eight hits. He struck out five and walked two, while keeping the Hops in this one.

The Hops had their chances in this one but could not come through. Donnie Roland bounced into a 5-4-3 double play with the bases juiced in the seventh. Forrest Owen struck out with Jimmy James at third in the eighth. Robbie Westbrook popped out and Josh Ortega grounded out with runners on second and third in the ninth against closer Emil Medrano. Medrano picked up his sixth save on the season.

Robbie Westbrook went 3 for 5 in the game after manager Blake moved him from the top spot in the order down to third. The top three men in the order, Roberto Geronimo, Bradley York and Westbrook, went 6 for 14 in the game, yet the Hops failed to score a run, despite ten hits.

In Sunday's finale, Matthew Cairo was excellent, tossing eight plus innings and scattering four hits, while striking out six and walking three, allowing no runs in a 2-0 victory for the Hot Shots as they completed the sweep.

The Hot Shots would get both of their runs on solo homers. Josh Carroll (his 7th) and Noah Wilson (5) hit the home runs in the fourth and fifth innings respectively off of Juro Yamaguchi.

Yamagushi (0-3) tossed eight innings, allowing the two runs on just three hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Flagstaff has scored more than three runs in a game only six times in 23 games to start the 2024 campaign. The Hops (10-13) didn't lose their 13th game in 2023 until May 19, when they were (33-13).

They will now hit the road for an eight game stretch at Roswell (12-10), Santa Fe (10-13) and Surprise (12-10).

Around the League: Mesa (12-7) completed a three-game sweep of Tucson on Thursday afternoon with a 10-8 victory. The Solar Sox scored 27 runs in the three game sweep.

Colorado Springs (8-12) broke a five game losing streak with an 11-3 victory over West Texas. The Snow Sox were lead by Mike Roack, who went 2 for 5 with a double and three RBIs in the victory. They pounded out 15 hits and 11 runs after scoring just six runs during their five game losing streak.

Albuquerque blew a four run ninth inning lead to Santa Fe, then rallied for a 9-8 walk off victory in 11 innings on a Matt Beckman RBI triple.

Fresno (11-11) had five pitchers combine on a five-hit shutout of San Diego to move up into third place in the DL West. The 1-0 victory saw Percy Sievers hit a solo home run in the third inning for the lone run of the game. Sievers has hit five home runs and drove in 16 runs to lead the Bears.

Bruno De La Cruz (3-1) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out nine as El Paso disposed of Amarillo 14-0.

Fort Worth's Gabriel Carmona (4-1) tossed a complete game six-hit shutout as the Kings slipped by Colorado Sprinsg 1-0. Mike Stoneridge (0-5) took the loss for the Snow Sox, but was excellent, allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out nine in seven innings of work.

David Lee (1-2) picked up his first win of 2024 as Gilbert defeated Surprise 6-5 in a battle of division leaders. Lee went six innings, allowing one run on three hits and the Barnstormers handed Gus Woodson (3-1) his first loss since arriving fron San Antonio.

Glendale's Dale Bridges hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth as the Desert Dogs rallied to stun Las Vegas 3-1. The Nuggets' Ricky Salinas was lifted after eight shutout innings, scattering nine hits and striking out five. Closer Nigel Blake (0-1) came on in relief and allowed three runs on two hits without recording an out. He was 7 for 7 in save opportunities before blowing his first save on Saturday afternoon.

Surprise scored nine times in the top of the ninth to pull out an 11-6 victory over Gilbert to avoid a sweep. Steve Mihelich doubled twice in the ninth and drove in five runs to help the DL Central leading Saguaros. The Barnstormers hit four home runs in the game, with the loss dropping the DL East leading Barnstormers to (15-8).

Mark Donnellon (3-0) tossed a complete game one-hitter, striking out eight and walking none, in El Paso's 3-0 victory at Hodgetown over Amarillo.

2024 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Game 6

                              Final Score:
                              Pirates-3
                              Blue Jays-2

                              Pirates win series 4-2

                              Pirates Are World Series Champs!!!

Let the black and gold confetti fly! The Pittsburgh Pirates have won the 2024 world series, the teams first since 1979! The championship puts the Pirates in sole possession of 7th all time between all MLB teams. The win puts the Pirates franchise at six total, just one behind the Dodgers.

The Pirates scored their three runs in the first three innings. The first two came via a Termarr Johnson two rbi double that knocked in CJ Cron and Jack Suwinski. The third run scored in the third when Anthony Santander knocked in a run even though he grounded into a double play.

The Blue Jays managed two runs. One game in the fourth off of a Alejandro Kirk rbi single and the second came on a balk of all things. That balk by Chase De Jong scored Teoscar Hernadnez who had tripled.

Fittingly, David Bednar saved the game as he finished off the 9th with sitting the Jays down in order while he struck out two. The save gave Bednar his 9th save of the postseason.

The Pirates probably wont make many major moves during the offseason. They will look to bring Bryan Reynolds back who is set to become a free agent after he missed most of 2024. From there, they may pick up a free agent or two but dont plan on being a major player in the market this offseason.
