Just had my best game so far in 23. Against the dodgers I start the game off with a double with Nico Hoerener. The ball hit top of the baske in wrigley but landed in play. Swanson comes up next hits a 2 run homer. Dodgers eventually take a 3-2 lead. In the 7th I haven’t had a hit since Swansons homer in the first just bad luck, was making good contact but couldn’t find holes. Anyways Seiya Suzuki comes up hits his first homer of the year to tie it. Dodgers take the lead in 9th. Ian Happ comes up in the bottom of the 9th leads it off with his first homer. Bellinger gets a single and Mancini comes up and walks it off with a 2 run homer cubs win.

I had 11 homers in 21 games coming into that game and hit 4 that game.

The Good...we are RED HOT and still undefeated and after taking the first 2 vs the Mets, The Padres sit at a perfect 12-0!. The Bad. The LA Dodgers are just as hot and are 11-1.

Joe Musgrove, in his return to Citi field after the playoff incident with Buck Showalter ended up going 7 innings allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, while striking out 14! Juan Soto went 3-4 with 3 RBIs in game 2 vs Max Scherzer and is now hitting .340 with 6 HR and 17 RBI.

I went with Nick Martinez in the rotation over Lugo because Lugo's windup/delivery take FOREVER and I just can't do it over and over. 1 inning in relief is more manageable, however given Martinez's early struggles, I may have to re-consider.

Cardinals continue to win series, take 2 of 3 from Diamondbacks

The Cardinals (14-5) continue to play solid baseball to start the season as they took another series, this time against the Diamondbacks in front of the home fans in Busch. The Cardinals still hold a 5 game lead over the Cubs in the NL Central.

This series was all about pitching. Jordan Montgomery moved to 3-1 this year and a perfect 4 for 4 in quality starts as he baffled the Diamondbacks bats holding the D'Backs to only one run while the Cards bats struggled to muster up any offense. The Cards did win 2-1 in the series opener.

Jack Flaherty was solid in game 2 but was only given one run of offensive support from his teammates as Flaherty took his first loss of the season (2-1) as the Cardinals lost 4-1.

Miles Mikolas again was solid in game 3 as he went 8 1/3 innings before being lifted after walking the leadoff hitter on a questionable ball 4 call. Mikolas didn't allow a run, which was good as the Cards only put up one themeselves to get the 1-0 victory and claim the series.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they travel west for a 10 game road trip starting with 3 games in Seattle.

Lars Nootbaar to 10 Day IL with rib injury

Lars Nootbaar was placed on the 10 Day IL with a rib injury he suffered Sunday against the Pirates. The Cardinals waited to see if he would bounce back in a few days, but with guys needing days off, the Cards decided to place him on the 10 Day IL to let him recover while being able to bring up Jose Fermin to provide depth.

Besides the balanced schedule and new playoff format, is there any drastic changes in Franchise mode this year? Can we still player lock?

DiamondBacks take 2/3 from Marlins(6-10)

The Diamondbacks(8-8) win their second series in a row and now sit tied for second in the NL West, and .5 GB of the Padres for first.

Game 1: If you are a founding member of the Ryne Nelson Fan Club you were a happy camper today. Mr. Nelson, trying to follow up Gallen’s no hit performance in the opener of the last series, carried one himself through 6.2 against the Marlins. Ultimately that would be the end of his road when he lost it, as his PC was quite high, but the bullpen came in and held the Marlins bats relatively quiet giving up 1 ER. The DBacks put up 2 in the first on a Gurriel Jr. Homer, then 3 in the fourth on a Marte homer. They would tack on one more before this one was over to make it 6-1.

Game 2 was a frustrating one for the DBacks faithful. But in a way they were lucky to be in it. The Marlins started the game with 3 straight singles against MadBum. However they escaped with just one allowed. The DBacks smacked the ball all game, unfortunately to the Marlins. Pavin Smith almost played the role of the hero with a solo shot to tie it in the T8, but the Co-Bullpen MVP LHP Kyle Nelson gave up a single to Luis Arraez and then a deeeeep blast by Jazz Chizzolm to blow the game. Marlins win 3-1.

Game 3 was the one of missed opportunities for both teams as they left a collective 23 on base(14 for DBacks, 9 for Marlins). Not what many expected when seeing Gallen and Alcantara starting the games. But however, the escapability is what makes the great ones, well great. Arizona’s early run they got in the first proved to be the decider, as both teams also traded 2 run half innings in the 5th. DBacks take this one 3-2 with Mantiply coming in for a four out save(His first opportunity and save of the year)

Now the DBacks head to St. Louis for a three game series to wrap up the road trip. The Cardinals currently lead the NL Central by .5 so it will be a battle to win the series for sure.

I started my Bravos QC HOF default(just increased pitch speeds) franchise with opening Nationals series. Broadcast on twitch:

3 different games, and loving the gameplay. They shut me out 3-0, I shut them out 4-0, and the final game we both scored 5-2, with me finishing with a series win 2 games to 1. Since I do QC, each broadcast will be the entire series of games usually. At least, that's the plan. Default HOF has been a blast with just increased pitch speeds and loving variety so far. Great variety of hits, some great defensive plays, some errors, some great and not so great pitching. Baseball baby!! Sports games like Madden can suck it with its annoying and frustrating unimpressive gameplay. Luckily, I don't need it now as The Show delivered a way better and fun experience, IMO.

Is there a way to edit the number of options that a player has?

I was debating starting my franchise once a roster update occurred so Tatis is in the game but I may just roll with a live roster that added him. might be annoying for him to not have his previous stats or win ROY but I keep my own spreadsheet so it's not a dealbreaker.

After 395 games on MLB 21, I'm finally ready to move on (I think). Going to try to take the same path as 21 and literally play nothing other than franchise mode on 23.

Thought about taking a different team this year, but ... yeah, it's the Braves. It always has to be the Braves. Looking forward to having Strider and a proper Harris in this franchise.

Going to start out using the settings I primarily used on 21. Basically default All-Star, although I'm putting the timing slider at 0 for me and at 10 for the cpu. If it gets too easy, I'll go up to HOF. I've typically preferred the gameplay on AS in past versions. Classic pitching - always always ALWAYS classic pitching with directional hitting and auto fielding with manual throwing.

I do turn injuries off. I miss the strategy of having to deal with them, but it always seems like the cpu gets hit harder (in all sports games, not just MLBTS) and it's huge bummer to me to play a team without some of its stars. When I build my team though, I do try to build depth as though there are injuries.

I'm going with the universal DH this time around and - as much as I hate it - the extra-inning runner rule. Budgets will be off, but I'll still stick to a self-imposed budget, typically less than what the game gives me. Looks like I have a payroll of $205M, so I'll give myself a budget of $220M to start with. That's $10M less than what the game has for me.

House rule on trades is I have to use the trade block. I can only inquire about players if they're on the block - although I will sometimes make an exception if the Braves acquire a player IRL. And teams have to be interested in a player I put on the block, although I can accept any offer made to me. I do try to make sure trades are reasonably fair. But bad trades do happen IRL. When I advance to the next day, I do check the transactions log to check for any cpu-cpu trades. I'll exit and reload if there's a trade that just doesn't make any sense. I do wish they'd add a reject trade feature like 2K has.

The other house rule for trades is I look at the team strategy to decide which path to take when using the trade finder:

Team strategy is Normal - I use All
Playoff push - MLB ready
Rebuilding - Prospects

Once I start it's my own universe. I'm not concerned with keeping things aligned with real life. So no 30-team control for me. I'm in charge of my team and that's it. But I like I said earlier, I will monitor the transaction log to seek out and destroy really bad trades. And real life does influence my franchise at times (see Joc Pederson in 21).

I typically go by OVR rating since the cpu does too. I just pretend that's a grade my scouts have given me for a player. On 21, I did edit a bunch of potentials for the Braves by swapping them among players to keep things fair. Didn't seem right to me that out of the box Ian Anderson was a C potential on 21 (then again, maybe SDS knew something after all). But on 23, I'm going to leave all ratings alone. I will edit some equipment.

I'm in spring training now. I won't actually play any games until Opening Day; basically just editing equipment and figuring out how I want to set up my roster. Hope to get things rolling by this weekend.

After our red hot start, we dropped 4 in a row and have now lost control of first place. Luckily we were able to stop the skid at 4 and have rebounded with 3 straight more wins. We are 16-5 and 1.5 games behind LA who is 17-3. The west will be a blood bath between the two of us.

Tim Hill has returned from the IL and Ryan Weathers was optioned to AAA El Paso. Xander Bogarts has produced next to nothing for us hitting .225 with 3 HR and 5 RBI with a slash line of .295/.408/.703. X also has 10 K's to 6 BBs. We now begin a 4 game road series vs the AZ Diamondbacks (6-14).

Cardinals drop first series of the year to Mariners in Seattle

The Cardinals (15-7) dropped their first series of the 2023 season as they were unable to topple the Mariners in Seattle over the weekend. The Cardinals lead in the NL Central is at 4 games over the Cubs.

The Cardinals got off on the right foot as they won the series opener 4-2 on Friday night behind Steven Matz. Matz (2-1) went 6 innings giving up the 2 runs on 6 hits. Ryan Helsley would close out the 9th earning his 7th save in as many opportunities. Dylan Carlson and Wilson Contreras each went deep in the game and each put up 2 RBIs to propel the offense.

Saturday was not a good day, as Adam Wainwright (2-2) was rocked from the start. Waino gave up 5 runs in the 1st inning and that was all the M's needed as they went on to win 5-0. Luis Castillo was brilliant for the home team tossing 8 innings of shutout baseball with 11 strikeouts along the way.

Sunday the Cardinals had Jordan Montgomery (3-2) on the mound, but he would end up with his 2nd loss of the year as he was nothing like his previous 4 starts. Montgomery went just 5 1/3 innings giving up 5 earned runs and 5 walks along the way. Nolan Arenado was the bright spot offensively collecting a double and triple along with 2 RBIs

The Cardinals will stay out west as they travel to San Francisco for a 4 game series with the Giants in Oracle Park starting Monday night.
