Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
The Cardinals finished with the exact same record as they did in 2022, 93-69. I played all 162, it was a great season.
Unfortunately, just like 2022 we get the Phillies in the Wildcard.
Zach Wheeler would pitch 7.2 innings, only allowing 1 run, which was Jordan Walker's first homerun in the majors (I send him down after 10 games into the regular season). Mikolas only lasted 2 innings, giving up 6 runs and 9 hits.
The Final was, Phillies 7, Cardinals 1.
Game 2 will be Jack Flahtery vs Aaron Nola.Comment

2024 Pittsburgh Pirates 04/15-04/17
Overall Record: 13-6 (2nd NL Central 0.5 behind Milwaukee Brewers)
Game Results
Game 1
Pirates-4
Giants-0
Game 2
Pirates-7
Giants-4
Game 3
Giants-5
Pirates-4
Pirates and Brewers continue to pace Central in mid April
Blake Snell continued his strong start to the year (now 3-0) in game one vs. the Giants, last years NL West winners. Snell pitched a complete game shutout versus the Brewcrew and allowed just four hits and one walk while he struck out nine. The game also saw red hot CJ Cron knock his sixth ball out of the park as the Pirates took the 4-0 victory.
Game two saw the Pirates finally deliver for Roansy Contreras as they got to Milwaukee's pitcher, Mike Clevinger very early. Due to playing eleven games in a row to that point, quite a few starters were rested one would expect a drop in production but that wasnt the case against Clevinger. The Pirates erupted for seven runs in just the first two innings and Clevinger was pulled before that second inning could finish. The lineup did cool off after that however and in fact, only managed one more hit and no runs against Milwaukee's relievers. The Pirates were however able to hold on for the victory 7-4.
The Giants did take game three after Jack Flaherty had the shortest start for a Pirate pitcher this season. He lasted just four innings while he gave up seven hits, a walk and three runs. The Brewers added on a fourth in the fifth inning on Mitch Haniger's fourth homer. The Pirates were able to fight back but eventually lost it in the 9th inning when Thairo Estrada hit a go ahead single that led to San Francisco taking the game 5-4.
The Pirates will now embark on a nine game road trip with their first stop being in Oakland to take on the A's (7-12/5th AL West).Comment

Cardinals avoid sweep against the Reds in Cincinnati
The Cardinals (36-31) dropped their first full series without Nolan Arenado, but at least avoided being swept by winning the series finale. The Cardinals are actually a half game ahead of the Brewers after they were swept by the Yankees.
The Cardinals are still finding their footing post Nolan Arenado. Tyler O'Neill with all of his struggles has slid into the cleanup spot in the lineup. Alec Burleson, who was recalled from Memphis due to the Arenado injury, has been tasked with hitting 5th. Both struggled in their new roles the first two games, but had a great day on Wednesday.
The pitching staff wasn't bad this series, but it is concerning that for the 2nd straight start, Jack Flaherty got knocked around and exited before getting to the 6th inning. The Cardinals need him to eat up innings and basically put up a Cy Young caliber year for this team to have a chance to get to October and make a deep run.
The Cardinals are off again Thursday as they travel to Pittsburgh for a 3 game weekend series with the Pirates, who just snapped a 6 game losing streak and are right in the mix of things for the division lead (1.5 games back)I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Cardinals take series against Pirates
The Cardinals (38-32) took two games of a three-game series from the Pirates in Pittsburgh. The Cardinals now hold a one game lead over the Brewers in the Central.
After the bullpen blew up on Friday night, losing a 6-1 lead in the final 4 outs of the game, the Cardinals won a 1-0 game on Saturday as Matthew Liberatore had maybe his best start as a Cardinal. Liberatore went 7 innings allowing 2 hits, no runs and fanned 11. Liberatore was lifted after 7 innings due to reaching 111 pitches on the night. This time the bullpen Jordan Hicks and Ryan Helsley would close out the game pitching a perfect final two innings. On Sunday the Cardinals bats awoke putting up 10 runs on 12 hits in route to a 10-3 victory.
The Cardinals will now head home as they welcome the Reds to town for their 2nd 3 game series in a week.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

2024 Washington Nationals
Game One: Phil Bickford (2-3, 2.92) vs Stephen Strasburg (4-3, 2.86)
Washington chased Bickford from the game after just 1.1 innings. They scored three in the first on back to back home runs from, who else, Anthony Rizzo and Mitch Haniger and then scored three more in the second via a base hit from CJ Abrams and a two run homer from Luis Garcia. That would be more than enough offense as Stephen Strasburg pitched six shutout innings, striking out six and Josiah Gray went the last three, giving up just one hit and striking out two as Washington blanked the Dodgers in game one.
Game note: Anthony Rizzo’s home run gave him 1,000 RBI in his career.
Game Two: Walker Buehler (4-2, 3.31) vs Felipe Escalona (2-1, 3.86)
The Dodgers scored in the top of the 1st on a Freedie Freeman double, but the Nats answered right back when Brandon Nimmo led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a single from Luis Garcia. Anthony Rizzo and Mitch Haniger would both work walks, although Garacia would be thrown out on a wild pitch during Haniger’s at bat. Brandon Drury would come through, however, roping a double to score Rizzo and Haniger. The Dodgers would get back to back doubles from Trea Turner and Yandy Diaz to score a run in the third, but Andrew Vaughn got the run right back with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning. Walker Buehler would settle in, but could only go five innings, giving up the four runs on five hits, walking four and striking out four. The Dodgers would bring Shohei Ohtani out of the bullpen, as he is coming back from a broken arm. Ohtani pitched the final three innings, not allowing a hit, walking two and striking out six. Meanwhile, Felipe Escalona dominated the Dodgers offense. He would go eight innings, giving up two runs on six hits, striking out nine and not allowing a walk. Trevor Rosenthal would work the ninth, finishing the game on just nine pitches.
Game Three: Dustin May (6-2, 3.45) vs Cade Cavalli (0-3, 5.44)
Cade Cavalli got absolutely lit up early. He would leave after 1.1 innings, giving up nine runs on eight hits, no walks, a hit batter, and no strikeouts. Zach Davies would be called upon and would give Washington 4.2 innings, giving up a run on five hits while striking out three. Zach Warren pitched an efficient three innings allowing one hit and striking out one. Meanwhile Dustin May went seven innings, allowing two runs (another Mitch Haniger home run) on five hits, one walk, two hit batters and five strikeouts. Kaleb Ferguson pitched two perfect innings in relief. The only bad news for LA was the loss of Freddie Freeman in the ninth, with what appears to be a shoulder injury*.
*The Dodgers confirmed Freeman suffered a dislocated shoulder on a check swing attempt and will miss 1-2 months.
**Cade Cavalli was sent back to AAA Rochester after the game, Joan Adon has been called up to fill his spot and Zach Davies will be inserted into the rotation for now.
Game Four: Tyler Anderson (7-2, 2.59) vs MacKenzie Gore (4-3, 5.86)
Mookie Betts started the scoring with a two run home run in the fourth, and Washington would get a run on a throwing error by Trea Turner in the bottom of the inning. LA would get a solo home run from Michael Perez in the fifth and a lead off solo home run from Mookie Betts in the sixth. Tyler Anderson would leave after five, giving way to Shohei Ohtani, working out of the bullpen again. MacKenzie Gore would leave after six innings, giving up four runs on six hits and striking out six. The Nationals had a great opportunity slip away in the eighth, they managed to score one run on a double from Lane Thomas, but Brady House would pop out with two runner stranded. House slammed his bat to the ground in frustration, which is understandable but not what Dave Martinez wants to see. The Dodgers added an insurance run in the ninth when Gavin Lux singled and Evan Phillips would come in to get the save and earn LA a series split.
Brady House has been sent back to AAA. He has continued to struggle and was not going to be recalled, but was given a chance with Gleyber Torres going down with his injury. House was not producing and his frustration and outburst during Sunday’s game was the final straw. He is only 21, and has shown much promise, but the Nationals really want him to be able to play everyday while not being a liability to a team that has the chance to make the postseason. For now AAA seems to be the best option for him. Lucius Fox has been promoted in House’s place. He played in 25 games during the 2022 campaign but spent all of 2023 at AAA. It remains to be seen how much playing time he will get.
The Nationals (31-28) will have an off day before taking on the Mets (30-31). Both teams are trying to figure out what their season will be…they are fourth and fifth in the division, respectively, but are well placed for a wild card spot.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
I haven't posted any updates, but I'm in June of "YEAR 2" of the Rockies Rebuild (year 1 of my rebuilds are done using quick manage)
It's been a blast so far. Trading away or dumping these high contract, average players has not been easy at all. Colorado has very little to use especially when it comes to pitching. I've stocked the lineup with guys like R. Laureano, E. Florial, J. Adell, A. Stevenson, R. Castro, E. Sosa, V. Brujan, etc. Guys that I could get for cheap, or that teams were trying to sneak through waivers, while I try to rebuild the pitching staff.
Colorado is a small market, so was able to use the salary that I cut to spend a lot on J. Urias and J. Flaherty (doesn't everyone on these boards sign Flaherty?), for 2 year deals. Also traded for J. Urquidy, who was on Houston's trade block. Made a few deals to try to bolster the bullpen. And have a handful of young future stars marinating in AA, and hopefully a few of them will be ready to roll by YEAR 3.
We're in dead last place in a tough division. So my goal of getting Colorado in legit contention by YEAR 3 will not be easy.Attached FilesJUUUUUUUST A BIT OUTSIDEComment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
Game 2 of the NL Wildcard, Phillies lead 1-0.
Flahtery would pitch 5 innings only allowing 1 run and the Cardinals would score 5 on Aaron Nola early. The Cardinals bullpen would only allow 1 more run in 4 innings and the Cardinals would cruise to an 8-2 win.
Homeruns from Gorman and O'Neill.
Game 3 for the chance to play the Mets in the NLDS will feature Adam Wainwright vs Taijuan Walker.
Does Wainwright still have Postseason magic in him or will this be his final game as a Cardinal or even possibly his career?Comment

Cardinals take series from Reds in St.Louis
The Cardinals (40-33) took 2 games of their 3 game series with the Reds in St.Louis. The Cardinals now have a 2 game lead over the Brewers in the NL Central.
The series was low scoring with the Cardinals winning the first two games 3-1 and 2-1, and losing the series finale 2-0. Alec Burleson showed that he belongs in the big leagues collecting 7 hits in the series. Tyler O'Neill got his bat somewhat going recording 3 hits with 2 homeruns in the 2 games he played in the series.
The Cardinals will now travel to New York for a 4 game weekend series with the Mets in Queens.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
Cardinals take 3 of 4 from Mets in Queens
The Cardinals (43-34) took three games of a four game series with the Mets over the Father's Day weekend in New York. The Cardinals now lead the NL Central by 4 games over the Brewers.
The Cardinals won both Thursday and Friday night behind solid pitching from both Matthew Liberatore and Dakota Hudson. Nolan Gorman and Dylan Carlson helped fuel the offense with each knocking in 4 runs in the two games. Saturday saw Jack Flaherty get a no decision as the Cardinals bullpen was unable to maintain a one run lead in the 7th inning and then eventually lost in extra innings. Sunday, Cooper Hjerpe continued to be solid earning the victory as the Cardinals used a 5 run 5th inning to take a 7-3 lead. They would go on to win 7-4. Jordan Walker hit his 1st homerun of the season on Sunday, as shocking as that may be.
The Cardinals are off on Monday as they fly back to St.Louis (weird scheduling) to face the Giants for a 3 game series.
Reid Detmers activated from IL - Hjerpe sent down
LHP Reid Detmers has been activated from the 60 Day IL after suffering a shoulder injury back in April. Detmers who was acquired in the off-season has had a rocky start to the season, but the Cardinals are confident that he can produce the same dominating stuff he did last year in Anaheim. With Detmers returning, the Cardinals had to decided who from the rotation would be replaced, and decided to send Cooper Hjerpe down to Memphis for the time being. Hjerpe has been good at the MLB level, but with Liberatore out of options and Hudson pitching well, Hjerpe was the viable option.
Detmers isn't expected to make his first start until this weekend.
Cardinals acquire Edmundo Sosa from Braves
The Cardinals aren't sitting on their hands and waiting until July to kick off trade season. The Cardinals brought back a familiar face to the organization by acquiring IF Edmundo Sosa from the Braves in exchange for 2B/UT Irving Lopez (2026 AL Rookie of the Year) and 1B prospect Giancarlo Robles.
Sosa is expected for now to play the reserve role, as he was in Atlanta, backing up Tommy Edman, Brendan Donovan, and Oswald Peraza. But...that role could change depending on what other moves the Cardinals make at the deadline. Sosa is hitting .262 on the year in his limited playing time, and will at the very least provide veteran leadership to a team that has some younger guys on the roster as they gear up for the 2nd half of the season and a run to the postseason.
Irving Lopez is 30 years old, but won the AL Rookie of the Year last year with the Royals. With the impending free agency of Ozzie Albies and Vaughn, the Braves needed a player that is controllable and can make an impact at the big league level, even if a reserve role.
Giancarlo Robles is 21 years old and was bouncing from Palm Beach (Single A) and Springfield (AA) this year for the Cardinals. At Springfield he's hitting .254 with 3 home runs and 20 RBIs. He has upside and the Braves aren't very deep at the first base position.
This is likely the first of several moves for the Cardinals as we approach the trade deadline.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Cardinals take series against Giants
The Cardinals (45-35) took the series against the Giants in St.Louis. The Cardinals now hold a 4 game lead in the NL Central Division over the Brewers. The Pirates have fallen back as they had lost 6 in a row before winning Thursday.
The Cardinals won on Tuesday in style when Harrison Bader delivered a 3 run homerun in the bottom of the 9th to walk it off. The Cardinals trailed 2-1 heading into their final at-bats, but were able to pull off the dramatic comeback. Wednesday saw the Giants get the better of the Cardinals as the offense was non-existent. Thursday the Cardinals got a strong performance from Dakota Hudson on the mound and the bullpen was perfect across 3 innings as the Cardinals won 5-1.
The Cardinals will stay at home for the final home series before the All-Star Break. The Pirates will visit for a 3 game weekend series. Afterwards the Cardinals will head to San Diego for a 4 game series with the red hot Padres and then finish up the first half with a 3 game trip to Colorado.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Adam Wainwright was stellar in Game 3 of the NL Wildcard. He went 6 innings and gave up only 1 run.
The Cardinals would go on to win 4-1 and win the series vs the Phillies, 2 games to 1.
Next up, the Cardinals head to NY to take on the Mets. Scheduled starters are Jordan Montgomery for the Cardinals and Kodai Senga for the Mets.Comment
