Another question - Is there any penalty in franchise if I was to sign a player for a big contract (length and dollars) and if my team performs poorly to just trade him away for prospects? Do I get hit with a financial penalty at all? Or does the other team take on the contract?
I've never paid much attention to how the budget plays out but I'd imagine if you start to lose, attendance goes down and so does budget. I do however believe that the other team takes on the entirety of a players contract when they are traded to that team.

2023 World Series - Game 6 - Cardinals vs Astros (Cardinals lead series, 3-2)

Jack would pitch a gem of a game and the Cardinals would get 2 runs in the 5th inning to take a 2-0 lead into the 9th inning. Closer Ryan Helsley would get into trouble and the Astros would walk it off, 3-2 to take this series to a Game 7.

2023 World Series - Game 7 - Cardinals vs Astros (Series tied, 3-3)

The Cardinals would call on Adam Wainwright once again in a Game 7 and the Astros would counter with Lance McCullers Jr.

Tyler O'Neill would blast 2 homeruns and Nolan Arenado would hit 3 doubles and 4 RBI and that would be all Adam would need as he only allowed 2 runs. Ryan Helsley would finish it off and the Cardinals would win Game 7, 9-3 over the Astros.

2023 WORLD CHAMPION ST. LOUIS CARDINALS!!!

      Playoff MVP: Tyler O'Neill (0.348/8HR/18RBI)
World Series MVP: Brendan Donovan (0.423/2HR/10RBI)

Just wanted to say that your posts bring me to this thread multiple times per week. I enjoy your write ups and following along with your seasons. Always makes me want to roll through my franchise and keep track of things in my old notebook like I used to do when I was younger, going back to the Sega Genesis days of Tony LaRussa baseball, or even older, the Nintendo Baseball Stars and Baseball Simulator 1.000 days. LOL Only problem is that now I'm 47, and married life along with 4 kids from age 1 through age 16 make it more of a dream than reality for me. Anyway, thanks for the routine updates. I look forward to them.

Cardinals sign Aaron Nola to a 4yr/$95M deal. He will slide in as the #1.

We also signed Blake Treinen to a 2yr/9M deal. He will be a setup RP.

Other than that, we are all set for 2024 and will try to defend our 2023 World Series title.

(on a side note, is there a way to have the CPU fill in my minor league holes? it's becoming a bit tedious figuring out what each level, AAA, AA, and A needs)

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

Kind of feels like 23 just isn't meant to be for me.

I've had a lot issues in my house this year, so my PS5 was offline for a stretch last month. And so, once again, I haven't played in over a month.

May give it one more go. I'll probably restart with the April 21st roster (the one with Tatis added) and import over Wander and Urias. Will probably import in some minor Braves like Heller as well.

The other option is to go back to 21. I was in late May 2023 on my MLB 21 franchise. I redownloaded it today, so we'll see.

Hopefully all the house issues are done with, so I can settle in with some good gaming time this fall and winter.

                2024 Washington Nationals

Game One: MacKenzie Gore (6-4, 5.49) vs Eric Lauer (6-5, 4.67)

MacKenzie Gore gave the Nationals 8 dominant innings, shutting out the Brewers on just two hits while walking one and striking out six. Eric Lauer had a nice game as well, giving up one run (a solo home run from a slumping Anthony Rizzo) while walking one and striking out six. The Nationals were able to pull away late, getting three runs on a home run from Brandon Drury and two more runs on a bases loaded single from Victor Robles. An all around great team win and hopefully one that can build some momentum in the clubhouse.

Game Two: Lucas Giolito (4-6, 5.50) vs Corbin Burnes (7-5, 3.48)

Corbin Burnes could not find his command earlier, hitting a batter and then walking three in the first, resulting in the Nats’ first run without a single hit. Burnes would settle in after this, but could only go five innings due to throwing nearly 40 pitches in the first. He went five innings, giving up a run on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts. The Nationals would finally get their second run in the sixth via a solo home run from Mitch Haniger (number 35) and would get a huge insurance run in the seventh on a double from Luis Garcia. Lucas Giolito pitched well but left after the fifth due to a high pitch count combined with the fact that it was a one run game and the Brewers lineup mashes against righties. Giolito gave up just two hits, three walks and three strikeouts in his five shutout innings, before turning it over to the bullpen. Zach Warren, Victor Arano, Aaron Bummer and Trevor Rosenthal each pitched a shutout inning apiece, and the Nationals shut the Brewers out for the second game in a row.

*CJ Abrams had to leave the game in the sixth after making a fantastic diving stop at short, he will miss a few days with a lat strain.

Game Three: Stephen Strasburg (5-7, 3.07) vs Brandon Woodruff (5-4, 3.21)
Mitch Haniger hit a two run home run in the first to give Washington the lead, but solo home runs by rookie Tyler Black in the first and Tyrone Taylor in the fourth would tie the game. Luis Garcia broke the tie in the sixth with a solo home run. Stephen Strasburg went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The Nationals scored three runs in the ninth, one on a Lane Thomas single and then the dagger coming from a bases loaded base hit from Lucius Fox to put Washington ahead 6-2.

The Nationals (37-44) get a much needed sweep as they prepare to travel to New York to face the Mets (44-38) to end June and begin July.

                  Rockies-3
                  Pirates-0

                  Pirates streak ends at six

6-1 is a pretty good homestand and the Pirates will take it after being just 10-9 in Pittsburgh thus far going into their series with the Rockies.

Although Pittsburgh and Colorado's records are basically the opposite of one another, Colorado did not go down easily.

The Pirates had a hard time getting anything going in the first game of the series after the Rockies took the early 1-0 lead off of Kris Bryant single in the first. Both teams would be scoreless past that point until the 7th inning and that is when Pittsburgh turned to some small ball tactics or if this was MLB the Show...some one say cheap tactics.

The inning started with Miguel Andujar getting his first hit of the season, a single into the outfield. That was followed by a Andrew Mccutchen single and then the schemes began. What followed was three consecutive bunts that ended up giving Pittsburgh the 2-1 victory. First, Tupipita Marcano laid down a sac bunt moving Adujar to third and Mccutchen to second. Next, Matt Frazier got a bunt single that scored Andujar and moved Mccutchen to third. Endy Rodriguez then bunted into a fielders choice that scored Mccutchen.

Kris Bryant made an valiant effort to take the lead back in the 8th but that same Matt Frazier jumped up and robbed what would have been a two run go ahead homerun to keep the score at 2-1. That would also be the final.

The Pirates then went on to win game two 3-2 and game three 7-2. Their offense was again stifled in game four as they dropped the final game of the series,3-0.

The Pirates will now head to Chicago to faceoff against the Cubs who are third in the division.

My updates may be less frequent as I'm playing other games now, but I'm so tempted to restart my Guardians franchise only to keep Terry Francona as a manager...man I'm going to miss that guy..

Pirates win 5 of 7 in windy city

The Pirates didnt have to travel much after getting to Chicago for their seven game road trip. The Pirates started off with four against the Cubs and won three out of those four. After that, the team just travelled across the city to end the trip with three against the Whitesox. The Pirates also won that series, 2 games to 1. One key brightspot for the team was Jack Suwinski who was recently entered into the starting lineup (against RHP starters). In this road trip, he hit for a .450 avg with 4 extra base hits 3 of which were homeruns.

The Pirates have been enjoying a great second half of May after their early 1-7 start to the month. They will look to continue their momentum as they finish with a two game mini series with the Detroit Tigers (23-31) and will start a big series in Milwaukee on the last day of the month.

Was there a little wrinkle to (this post), I think there was....

I don't hate Boog, but I do agree, Vasgersian is better. I actually play with commentary off on 2022 (although I turned it on for Postseason).

Pirates sweep mini series with Tigers

Unfortunately for Detroit, they had to go up against the Pirates top to arms in their two game series. Julio Urias started the searies with a strong seven inning performance that saw him strikeout 8 to increase his National League and MLB SO lead to 95 (Dylan Cease in the AL has 93). He did allow a few too many hits (7) but allowed just the one run in the Pirates 5-1 victory. Anthony Santander had the big game at the plate as he tallied three hits and was just a double away from the cycle.

Game two saw Blake Snell complete his second complete game shutout as he went the full nine while he struck out seven of his own. He also got hit around a bit (10) but didnt allow any runs. Oneil Cruz and Buddy Kennedy knocked in the runs for the Pirates.

CJ Cron did injure himself in practice prior to this series but he is already ready to go as the Pirates head to Milwaukee to face off with the second place Brewers (34-21). Milwaukee did give the Pirates their only series loss in April when they took three of four in Pittsburgh.

I can't quite figure it out. Every year I say I'm going to play a full season but I seem to spend more time making and updating rosters.

Like my College, Fictional Roster, WBC Roster. Etc

I never seem to be able to PLAY a full season. Does anyone else have trouble finishing a full season?
                                I am the way
                                I am the light
I am the dark inside the night.
                                I hear your hopes
                                I feel your dreams
And in the dark I hear your screams
Don't turn away, Just take my hand
I'll never leave, All I ask of you, Is Believe.
