Pirates drop series to Reds while offense continues to sputter
The Cincinatti Reds started 2025 off really hot (14-4 through mid April) but then they came crashing back down to reality and have got 18-31 since then. So natually, the Pirates and their fan bases were a bit less amped up for this matchup as they would have been for one that could have been for the NL Central lead.
The Reds took advantage of that as a combination of John Doxakis, Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo and their bullpens held the Pirates to a tie of their lowest three game series run total (five). Natually, the Pirates have lost both series in which they have scored just five runs the other was a 2-1 series loss to the Nationals back in late April.
The Pirates will soon have a chance at revenge but first, they will finish out therihome stand with three against Tampa (27-41/5th AL East)Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
Eight days into the 2025 season, and the Nationals have been dealt another devastating blow. Prized prospect James Wood will miss the remainder of the year after suffering a torn ACL in Triple A. Wood barely missed the major league roster this year, mostly due to the other players not having any options left. He is only 22, but this is a major setback in his development and opens the door for another prospect to potentially make an impression on the front office.
Wood played at the major league level in 2022 and also for the final month of 2024, and has already shown he belongs there.Cleveland Guardians - MLB The Show 25

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
June 14-16, 2024: FLAGSTAFF (31-42) @ SALT LAKE (37-35)
Stadium: Deseret Field (Capacity: 17,423)
June 14: Chukars 8, Hops 0
June 15: Chukars 5, Hops 1
June 16: Chukars 7, Hops 4
Salt Lake City, UT (AP) - The Hops finished off a seven game road trip by getting swept in Salt Lake City by the Chukars as their season is spiraling. The Chukars outscored the Hops 20-5 to earn the sweep as they remain in the race in the ML West.
The Chukars opened up a big weekend series with an 8-0 shutout of the Hops. Len Rainey went the distance, allowing just five hits and striking out two as the Chukars got back to the .500 mark on the season.
Salt Lake struck for three in the first off of Russell Fluty thanks to a J.P. Grant RBI single and Darell McCloud two-run bomb, breaking an 0 for 34 slump. They would extend it to 6-0 in the third on a Geronimo two-run blast and McCloud solo home run.
Larry Butler and Robby Payne each homered in the sixth to make it 8-0.
Russell Fluty (2-6) was shellacked, allowing six runs on 12 hits in just 3.1 innings of work. The Hops had no extra base hits and Roberto Geronimo grounded into two inning ending double plays. The Hops left runners in scoring position in the first three innings.
On Saturday afternoon, the Chukars once again used the long ball to pull out a 5-1 victory. Robby Payne went 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored to help lead the way for the Chukars victory.
The Hops would grab a 1-0 lead in the third on an Arturo Mardones solo home run, his third on the season. But the Chukars answered right back in the bottom half. Robby Payne tied it up with an RBI single that scored Ruiz. J.P. Grant singled home Larry Butler and Darrell McCloud singled home Payne to make it 3-1, off of Flagstaff starter Ryan Pressley.
Larry Butler would hit a solo home run in the fourth to make it 4-1 and Robby Payne would add a solo shot in the fifth.
Thor Odinson (5-5) would shut down the Hops, pitching eight innings and allowing on run on five hits. He struck out five and walked one and got the Hops to bounce into two critical inning ending double plays. Emmett Franco came on with two outs and two on in the ninth to get the final out and record his 18th save.
Ryan Pressley (6-5) took ht sloes, getting roughed up for five runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings of work. He struck out eight and walked three.
On Sunday afternoon, the Chukars used a six run third inning to cruise to a 7-3 victory to earn a sweep of the three game series. J.P. Grant delivered the big blow with a three-run home run to cap off that six run third inning.
Geraldo Rodriguez (1-4) was pretty good outside of that disastrous third, but he took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits, while striking out five and walking none. In that third inning he gave up two three-run home runs, to David Hernandez and J.P. Grant that were his undoing.
The Hops had chances to get back in this one but could not convert. They had the bases loaded with none out in the fifth and failed to score. Roberto Geronimo hit a ball just foul that would have been a grand slam, then struck out on the next pitch.
In the sixth, the Hops would get on the scoreboard. Grant Mitchell hit a two-run home run and Isaac Nettles followed with a solo shot to cut the lead in half. Ryan Kelly would add a solo home run in the top of the ninth, his first since coming over in a trade from Chandler.
The Hops will now return home for a seven game series with St George (37-36) and Amarillo (26-47).
Around the League: Gilbert's Ned Little hit a gland slam in the ninth inning, and drove in five in the game, as the Barnstormers rallied to defeat Mesa 7-5.
Long Beach's Steve Willis (9-4) tossed eight strong innings, allowing one run and four hits, striking out eight, as the Surf Dawgs won their opener at Las Vegas 7-1.
Albuquerque's Gavin Collins went 3 for 5 with two home runs and drove in four as the Mariachis defeated Austin 12-8 to move within a game of first place in the ML Central. The worst team in the IBL in 2023 is now (37-33) and looking like they could contend for a playoff spot.
Surprise outlasted Prescott 4-2 in a 16 inning marathon on Saturday afternoon. Alberto Ruiz's two-run home run (14) off of reliever Miles Coburn (3-1) in the top of the 16th was the difference.
Mesa's Welker Washington hit a first inning grand slam as the Solar Sox scored six times in the opening inning to pace themselves to a 9-3 victory over rival Gilbert. Gilbert starter Chad Melendez (4-6) faced six batters and did not record an out, allowing three hits and walking three.
Glendale's Dan Moore (6-2) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out ten as the Desert Dogs shutout Fresno 7-0.
San Diego stretched their lead in the DL West to a game and a half over Henderson with a 6-4 victory over Phoenix on Sunday afternoon. Dan Rodriguez went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs to help lead the Seals to the victory.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
As we near the release of '24, I took a break from a serious franchise and wanted to just kind of let loose and see what kind of sh*t show I could create in the last few days. I started a franchise, turned the budgets off, force trades on and started going to work. I got a line up of all 99s and a rotation of all 95+ pitchers. Acuna, Betts, Freeman, Judge, Seager, Harper, Rutschman, etc. I wanted to see what kind of havoc could be done and how many wins you can actually get in a season, by just simming. We're halfway through year 1 and our record is around 75-10. I ended up jumping in a few games as well, just to hit some bombs and I was not dissapointed. Past the all star break, I think we have 5-6 guys with 30+ home runs, and 8/9 position players have a .300+ average. Obviously its not realistic and its not meant to be, but just wanted to see what can happen. Before I start playing The Show 24, I want to keep simming this along, see how many World Series in a row are won, how many records are broken and just see if there is anything out of the ordinary than what you would typically see in a franchise.
I know there's alot of adversity surrounding the show 24, and alot of people will not be getting it. Many years I consider not getting it, however, it has become a yearly tradition to me. Its like Christmas day, If the game released and I didn't get it, I'd feel out of the norm. So i'll be getting it, not on the early release, but on the standard release. Looking forward to seeing everyones updates on the new game as well!ATLANTA BRAVES

Probably just going to continue to roll with 22. I am too invested in the franchise now in the middle of year three. It took a ton of work to make all the uniforms and stadiums (downloaded a bunch then edited). Plus I would have to wait for another fantasy roster.
How about you?
I’m still torn at what to do. I like the gameplay changes in ‘24 but I don’t want to start over again

The June Power Rankings are out and here they are:
1. Chandler Chiefs (50-22) (+5): This is clearly the best team in the IBL. They went (26-5) since the May Power Rankings to shoot to the top. They are loaded on offense and have a great pitching staff. They are first in batting average, runs, slugging and on-base percentage and second in home runs. They are led by MVP front-runner Zach Dossett who is hitting .355 with 18 home runs and 56 RBIs. They have five players with at least 13 home runs. Rueben Starr, who came over from Phoenix last season is (9-2, 3.38 ERA) with 65 strikeouts in 78.1 innings of work. Jim Miller has 24 saves and the Chiefs lead the IBL with 34 saves.
2. San Antonio Javelinas (43-28) (+1): This is another team near the top both in hitting and pitching. They are second in batting average, runs, and on base percentage and third in slugging. The Javelinas are second in ERA. They are led by outfielders Kosuke Matsui (.272, 16 HR, 53 RBI) and T.J. Hart (.295, 16 HR, 50 RBI) with second baseman Greg Hunter hitting .322 with 12 homers, 34 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. Will Nixon, acquired from Glendale on April 10, is (8-2, 2.75 ERA) with 71 strikeouts in 104.2 innings of work.
3. Surprise Saguaros (45-27) (-1): The Saguaros have had a nice month going (18-13) but have slipped down to third. They are fifth in OBP and ERA, lead the entire IBL with eight shutouts, and are fifth with 569 strikeouts. They are lead by Donnie McCloud who is hitting .287 with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs. Steve Mihelich has cooled off some but is still hitting .302 with 14 home runs and 38 RBIs. Gus Woodson is dominant at (8-1, 2.72 ERA) with 72 strikeouts in 102.2 innings of work.
4. Henderson Silver Knights (38-34) (+3): The Silver Knights are starting to heat up as the calendar has turned to June. They are third in batting average, runs scored, first in doubles, fourth in triples, fourth in OBP. Albert Zambrano is hitting .271 with 21 home runs and 48 RBIs to lead this offense. Closer Irwin Strawberry has 22 saves and has not allowed an earned run in 2024.
5. El Paso Express (40-33) ( +1): The Express look to be right on track to return to the postseason to defend their ML title. They are fifth in runs scored, second in stolen bases, third in walks, first in complete games, and third in shutouts. Josh Hawk is having a year, hitting .323 with 20 home runs and 56 RBIs. The Express have five guys with at least ten stolen bases, led by Brandon Gayle with 17. Bryan Higgins (8-3, 3.13 ERA) and Mark Donnellon (7-3, 2.99) lead the way on the bump.
6. Mesa Solar Sox (40-32) (+2): The Solar Sox are hanging in there in the DL Wild Card, but still trail Chandler by ten games in the East. They are led by Welker Washington, hitting .350 with 13 home runs and 34 RBIs. Willy Geronimo has 15 home runs and 50 RBIs. Pitching is the reason the Solar Sox may struggle to stay in the race.
7. San Diego Seals (40-33) (NR): The Seals make an appearance in the top 10 for the first time. They lead the DL West in a tight four team race. The Seals are led by Matt Mulder who is hitting just .252 with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs. Fireballer Matt Campbell started out strong but has had a few hiccups but is (6-5, 3.38 ERA) with 99 strikeouts in 96 innings of work.
8. St George Archers (37-36) (NR): The Archers have stormed to the top of the ML West thanks to their offense that leads the league in home runs (131) and is second in slugging (.476). They have eight players with at least ten home runs, led by ML leader Chris Taylor with 23. This is a team that lives and dies by the home run....will it last?
9. Albuquerque Mariachis (38-33) (NR): The Mariachis are shooting up the rankings after a horrendous 2023 in which they finished (55-107). They are led by a suddenly red-hot Eli Medina who is hitting .376 to lead the team in only 34 games. Jeffrey Horner has been hot of late too, hitting seven home runs and 25 RBIs in 27 games. Their pitching has been below average so it remains to be seen if they can stay in the race and if they will be buyers at the deadline.
10. Santa Fe Jays (36-35) (NR): The Jays sit in fourth place in the ML Central, but have the sixth best run differential in the IBL. Offensively they are led by first baseman Corey Barton hitting .296 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs, leading the team in all categories. Pat Mehnutzak (6-4, 3.84), Ron Sposato (6-4, 3.81), Matt Price (6-2, 3.65), and Jared Hughes (6-2, 3.51) make up a nice rotation. Their bullpen has been leaky so they will be looking for help there as we approach the trade deadline.Comment

Pirates first to 50 with 2-1 victory over Tampa
The Pirates lost the first game against the Rays, 6-2 and at the same time, tied their highest losing streak of the season at three games.
That streak did not increase however as the Pirates won the next two, 4-2 and 5-1. Obviously, with the scores, the Pirates got great starts out of Julio Urias (9 innings, 2 H, 2 R, 10 SO) and Roansy Contreras (7 innings, 6 H, 1 R, 10 SO).
The Pirates also got some big homeruns in the two wins. Game two saw Gary Sanchez hit his first of the year in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and eventually give the Pirates the win, 4-2.
Mr. Pirates, Andrew McCutchen Homered in the third inning of Game three (#6) to bring the score to 3-0 and Yoennis Sherry padded his rookie of the year resume with his 7th in the fourth inning as the Pirates eventually took the game 5-1 to win the series.
Now, it is Revenge time as the Pirates go on the road to Ohio to face off with the Reds (34-36/3rd NL Central).Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
I'm curious to know what others are doing with the draft and scouting. My first round pick was a player I discovered. His draft place for me was #1 but for MLB he was listed as n/r.
I picked him at #1 and subsequently signed him. I was curious what would have happened if I had passed over him since he was listed as n/r for the rest of MLB so I went back and did the draft again in a non-save situation and I picked a different player with my first pick. The very next player taken was the player I referenced who was listed as n/r.
My conclusion is the other 29 teams are also doing discovery and this is a way to find some very good players. I'm wondering how many weeks others spend on discovery and what the scouting strategy is for others.≡Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
BLOCKBUSTER TRADES
Phoenix (AP) - There were two blockbuster trades in the IBL on Tuesday afternoon. The first was a three-way trade between Flagstaff-San Antonio and West Texas. The Hops sent star 30-year-old first baseman Josh Ortega (93 OVR, A POT) and minor league pitcher 27-year-old Ricky Webster (73 OVR, B POT) to San Antonio. The Javelinas sent 31-year-old shortstop Manuel Hernandez (89 OVR, A POT) to West Texas, and West Texas sent 25-year-old first baseman David Petrovski (88 OVR, B POR) to Flagstaff.
West Texas then turned around and sent their starting shortstop, 33-year-old Carlos Quinones (88 OVR, A POT) and 25-year-old minor league catcher Carlos Villegas (79 OVR, C POT) to Gilbert for 26-year-old second baseman Tony Nunez (81 OVR, B POT) and 29-year-old left fielder Brian Valenzuela (84 OVR, B POT).
Flagstaff's GM chimed in, “We are looking to the future, but bringing in a player than can also help us now.” When asked if moving Ortega, a popular player, was a salary dump, he scoffed at that, “We are in the business of winning baseball games. Petrovski is a stud and will slide right into the lineup.”Comment
