I just finished my first regular season with the cubs and had to share the stat line that Ohtani had with the angels:
.349 53 home runs 180 RBI (180!!) which resulted in him winning the triple crown. Pitching wise he went 19-3 3.26 era and over 200 K's

Won the MVP and the CY Young.

ALDS Game 4 - vs Guardians

Series - 2-1 White Sox

Shane Beiber vs Michael Kopech

What. A. Game.

The first three innings had this game pinned as a pitcher’s duel, as two of the AL’s best pitchers this year were dealing, only allowing two hits between them. Things would begin to unravel a hit for Kopech, who was getting results but was missing spots at times, and he got popped for a two run homer by none other than Jose Ramirez, who was only 1-10 in the first three games. Kopech would also struggle through the fifth and give up another run, putting the White Sox down through 5.

The offense was scuffling to this point, with a few nice pieces of contact only leading to wasted opportunities as the team started 0-5 with runners in scoring position. This would change in the 6th, as an Andrew Benintendi double would be followed a few batters later by a Luis Robert single to move him to third. Oscar Colas, the AL Rookie of the Year, would lift a ball deep to right to score a SAC fly. Then stepped Yoan Moncada, the team’s hottest hitter in this series, and he would make Beiber pay on a hanging breaking ball, smashing a 426 foot shot to dead center to tie the game.

Reynaldo Lopez would be brought in during the seventh and cleanly get through the inning, with Beiber matching him. Lopez returned to the mound in the eight and got Kwan and Rosario down in two pitches before giving up a roped double to left from Ramirez. With the go-ahead run at second, Aaron Bummer would get his third appearance of the season against Andres Gimenez. Bummer, a much maligned reliever all year, would again come up clutch, striking out Gimenez in four pitches to send us to the bottom of the eighth tied at 3.

Trevor Stephan would step on the mound for the Guardians looking to keep the game tied. He would be rudely introduced to Benintendi, would got a first pitch fastball and drilled it for a double. This would bring up Eloy Jimenez, the team’s offensive star, who would battle through six pitches before drilling a double in the right center gap to give the White Sox their first lead of the game. Stephan would manage to get through the rest of the inning unscathed and the White Sox headed into the 9th up 4-3.

Liam Hendriks took to the mound for only the second time all postseason. Hendriks was ready to take the mound and it showed, striking out Josh Naylor and Josh Bell in quick succession. Up would step George Valera, who would mash a ball up the middle for a single. He would make a fatal mistake though, trying to take second and being gunned down on a very strong throw from Robert, ending the game.

The White Sox win 4-3, and finish up the series 3-1, making their way to the ALCS!!

I should not have won that game. I was off on my pitching the whole game, but the baseball gods were shining on us. I got away with a few hard shots by Cleveland that found my guys.

I know one thing, despite this series result I have a hard time with them. I badly need another lefty reliever (and a starter for that matter) specifically for the matchup with them. I really relied on Bummer and Crochet a lot in this series.

September 5: Hops 2, Archers 1
September 6: Hops 4, Archers 2

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - Flagstaff lost the opener, but then grabbed the final two games of a huge series with St George to stay atop the Mountain League West. The Hops wrapped up the home stand (2-4), but will still has a three game lead in the West with 21 games remaining.

The Hops dropped their seventh straight on Monday as they fell 6-1 to the Archers in the opener of a three game series at AutoZone Park. Angel Montes went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the way for St George as they keep their Wild Card and Divisional hopes alive.

St George would grab a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an Angle Montes two-out RBI single. Montes would then hit a two-run home run off of Alex Farmer in the third to make it 3-0. IT was his 14th homer on the season. They would extend that lead to four in the sixth on a Sam Robinson RBI single.

The Archers would pick up two additional run sin the seventh with an Angel Montes sacrifice fly and Jamaal McCormick RBI ground out to run their lead to 6-0.

Flagstaff would score their lone run in the bottom of the eight as Josh Ortega homered off of Lamont Lawrence. It was Ortega’s 37th on the year and spelled the end for Lawrence. Lawrence (11-9) pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing the one run on eight hits, while striking out three and walking one. He lowered his ML best ERA down to 2.67.

Alex Farmer (9-10) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Russell Fluty came on in relief and surrendered two runs in 1 2/3 innings of work. His ERA is 11.81 this season in four appearances.

On Tuesday evening, the Hops ended their seven game losing streak in dramatic fashion as Art Mason hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to send Flagstaff on to a 2-1 victory.

This one was a pitcher’s duel with Ramon Garcia and Andrew Gellman battling each other.

The Hops would grab a lead in the bottom of the sixth on an Isaac Nettles solo home run off of Gellman. It was his third on the year and put Flagstaff up 1-0.

St George would get that back in the top of the seventh off of reliever Aldo Osuna. Chris Taylor homered to left, his 24th on the season and we were tied at 1-1.

It would remain that way until the bottom of the ninth when Mason lead off with the home run to right off of Tom Gifford. Gifford (9-9) took the loss, throwing two plus inning and allowing the one run on three hits. Andrew Gellman had thrown six innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out eight and walking one.

Pedro Macias (7-2) picked up the win for Flagstaff, throwing two scoreless innings. Ramon Garcia threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five. Also Osuna was charged with a blown save, his fifth, allowing the home run in the seventh.

The Hops only managed six hits, but Isaac Nettles had three of them, going 3 for 4 with the home run and a double.

In Wednesday afternoon’s finale, the Hops jumped out to an early lead and then held on for dear life at the end in a 4-2 victory over the Archers to secure the series win.

Flagstaff would go up 4-0 with single runs in each of the first four innings, highlighted by two solo home runs from Forrest Owen.

Shoe-Lace O’Tying (12-8) was in total control, tossing seven shutout innings and allowing just two hits, while striking out nine and walking three. Samuel Espinoza, who has been very reliable as of late, came on and worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning, that earned him a chance to go back out in the ninth with the Hops up by four. He allowed a single to Angel Montes and then a two-run home run to Jamaal McCormick, his 33rd, that cut the Hops lead in half.

Vic Miller came on and allowed a runner to third before managing to wiggle out of the jam and pick up his 41st save. The game ended with Juan Diaz flying out to the warning track in right.

The Hops (78-63) will now head out on the road to face Colorado Springs (71-70) and Salt Lake (75-66).

Around the League: Rickey Ferreira went 3 for 6 with two home runs and drove in six as Rio Rancho pounded Amarillo 12-1. The Owlz have won four straight and are just three games back of Salt Lake for the second ML Wild Card spot.

Colorado Springs rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the red-hot Salt Lake Chukars 4-3. Jamie Case’s solo home run in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the game winner as Colorado Springs moved above .500 with the victory.

Glendale saw their eight game winning streak come to an end as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Dust Devils in Yuma.

Junior Lima homered and drove in three as Las Vegas dismantled San Antonio 9-2 to move back into first place in the DL West.

Rio Rancho built a 15-0 lead after three innings, then sweated out a furious Amarillo rally and held on for a 15-11 victory on Tuesday evening. The Owlz’ Darrick Larkin went 4 for 5 with a double, two triples and three RBIs to lead the offense.

Mike Rock hit a sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the 11th as Colorado Springs defeated Salt Lake 1-0. The Chukars managed just four hits in the loss as they failed to pick up ground on the slumping Hops.

Salt Lake’s Thor Odinson (13-9) helped the Chukars avoid a sweep as they downed Colorado Springs 10-2 in Wednesday afternoon’s finale. Odinson tossed seven strong innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, while striking out nine.

Well it took me about 3 months to finally get stuck in on a franchise. Dragster was the inspiration, so thanks. I gave The Nats a try and haven't looked back. Didn't want to be th eguy restarting his franchise on here every couple weeks so I made sure I got a few months into it before I started posting here. I am currently 2 weeks from the trade deadline but have about 8 pages of notes ready to go. MLB The Show has been rejuvenated for me with this Washington Nationals franchise. It's been a blast. Playing 1 game of every series. Trying to slow down a bit though as I am trying to make a few trades, but want to make sure I don't do anything that will ruin my sense of realism and my enjoyment of my franchise. I posted in the trade thread if anyone wants to offer advice or ideas. But anyways without further ado.

Long Season Incoming For The Nations Capital

2019 seems like decades ago, after a World Series win with the likes of Juan Soto, Stephen Strasburg and Anthony Rendon, things have quickly crumbled. Three straight years as the floor mats of the NL East, the rebuild is in full effect. Most forecast 65-70 wins for the young team lead by breakout player Joey Meneses. The main point of this season will be to watch how CJ Abrams, Mackenzie Gore, Keibert Ruiz and Josiah Gray continue to grow alongside Meneses and Lane.

Chicago White Sox Franchise: ALCS Preview vs the Los Angeles Angels

As Major League Baseball headed into the postseason, very few experts, if any really, predicted the matchup we have gotten for the American League Championship Series between the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels. The White Sox snuck into the postseason as the final wild card team, while Angels were the four seed as the best wild card team.

This series is shaping up to be a good one with plenty of stars on both sides. The White Sox boast the AL batting title winner in Tim Anderson, the best display of power with Eloy Jimenez (league leader in homers and RBI), and others that led to a top 10 spot in the league in ERA and the fourth most runs scored. The Angels of course boast a once in several lifetimes talent in Shohei Ohtani, the two way player who produced a slash of .251/.334/.532 with 28 homers, 88 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. Of course; that is not his only talent, as Ohtani posted a pitching season with a 15-4 record, a 2.68 ERA; and 159 Ks in 167.2 IP. He finished second for both the MVP and Cy Young to Jacob deGrom. The Angels have played seven postseason games so far, with Ohtani already mashing four homers and 10 RBI, though he has struggled on the mound.

Ohtani is not the only star of the Angels though, as the generation’s greatest player is still manning center field at an elite level in Mike Trout. Trout was excellent yet again in 2023, with a .282/.378/.571 slash with 35 homers, 96 RBi, 90 runs, and 10 stolen bases. He is still that guy and is hitting .414 in the playoffs.

One of the biggest surprises for the Angels has been the supporting cast, as Taylor Ward produced an exceptionally strong regular season and has crushed in the playoffs so far with a .516 average. Mainstays Brandon Drury and Jared Walsh produced arguably their best seasons, while off-season acquisitions Hunter Renfroe (27 homers, .821 OPS) and Tyler Anderson (2.64 ERA, 18-8 record) have been just as critical to fill out the roster behind the stars.

These are the first three projected starting pitching matchups of the series.

Game One @ LAA: Dylan Cease vs Shohei Ohtani

Cease missed his last start with an injury and was disappointing in the regular season, relatively speaking, but was solid in his lone postseason start against the New York Yankees. Will Ohtani’s postseason struggles on the mound continue?

Game Two @ LAA: Lucas Giolito vs Patrick Sandoval

Giolito was good enough for the White Sox to give him a three year extension in August, but has been roughed up a bit this postseason in two starts (12 innings, 4.50 ERA). Sandoval was rock solid all season, with a 14-8 record and a 3.40 ERA over 204 innings, but struggled in his lone postseason start badly. Sandoval produced the most innings of his life, 55.1 more than in 2022, and may be running out of gas.

Game Three vs LAA: Michael Kopech vs Tyler Anderson

Kopech was good in his first start of the postseason and a little inconsistent in his second, much like his regular season. Anderson has been exceptional in the postseason, throwing 20 innings already with a 1.80 ERA. He has put this rotation on his back.

Pirates back in win column with series victory over Cardinals

The Pirates needed a series win and they got it as they won two of three vs. the Cardinals. St. Louis may be in last place but they have certainly under performed this season.

The Cardinals took game one thanks to a 6th inning Alec Burleson two rbi single. That 3-2 lead would hold through the rest of game as the Cardinals added two more in the 8th the bring the Pittsburgh losing streak to four games.

That streak then game to an end in games two and three as both Roansy Contreras (8.0 IP 4 H 2 R 9 SO) and Mitch Keller (6.0 ip 6 H) were solid in their games two and three team victories.

During the series, Anthony Santander finally hit his 100th and 101 career homeruns that will hopefully quiten the announcers and their talk about his 100th.

The Pirates will stay at home to face off against the Cubs who are tied for 2nd (63-64).

Chicago White Sox:ALCS Game One @ Los Angeles Angels

Throughout the entirety of the first two series, the White Sox have been able to play, relatively speaking, with little pressure outside of game three in the wild card series with the New York Yankees, a game in which they got up early and cruised. They had won five of their first seven post season games and never trailed in a series.

Things looked as if they may work out in their favor in this one, as Luis Robert took Shohei Ohtani’s first pitch of the second inning to dead center for a home run and the early lead. The White Sox were feeling good after a very strong first inning from Dylan Cease.

Ohtani would get his revenge quickly, however, as he smashed a fastball into the left field seats on a 3-2 count off of Cease to tie the game up. From there, the pitchers would get through the third inning quickly and it seemed as if we were settling into a pitching clinic, but Mike Trout had other plans. Trout would double to start off the fourth and score two batters later off of a Hunter Renfroe single to go up 2-1. The Angels would keep the offense rolling though, with Gio Urshela hitting a single later in the inning that would score Renfroe and Brandon Drury.

Now down 4-1, the White Sox would quickly find themselves down two outs in the top of the fifth before the offense would shine through. Yasmani Grandal would find a single into right field. Next, Gavin Sheets would step up to the plate and deliver in a clutch spot, taking Ohtani deep with a no doubt homer to right field. The White Sox were down 4-3 and had momentum.

With Cease still pitching in the bottom of the fifth, Mike Trout would strike again. Stepping to the plate after a David Fletcher single, Trout would take a Cease fastball 410 feet to left field, reasserting the Angels lead up to three. Cease would be taken out, with Joe Kelly coming in and immediately striking out Ohtani to get to two outs in the inning. Disaster would strike again for the White Sox, as a Renfroe double would be immediately followed by a single to score him from Jared Walsh.

The White Sox, still down 7-3, would again see Trout step to the plate with David Martin on the mound, and Trout would strike yet again, pulverizing a ball to left field for his second homer of the game and giving the Angels an 8-3 lead.

Throughout the offensive onslaught, Ohtani was pitching well, having only made a few mistakes. He entered the eighth inning having only given up the three runs, but would give up a quick double to Grandal that was followed by another single from Sheets. With two runners on and no outs, his night on the mound was considered over and in stepped Jamie Barria. He would get a pop up from Elvis Andrus before Tim Anderson found a base knock to make it 8-4 with two runners still on. Andrew Benintendi stepped up in a big moment, and was unable to help the team by grounding into a double play.

There would be no more offense, as the White Sox went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth and fall to the Angels 8-4, and now down 1-0 in the series.

The big stars really played their parts for the Angels, as Trout dominated the game with a double, two homers, three RBI and three runs scored, while Ohtani was largely very good and provided a homer himself. Add in good games from Walsh, Drury, and Renfroe, and you get this result. The White Sox simply struggled to string together offense today, and will look to rebound in Game Two.

Final: Angels Win 8-4

Standings Update

With their sweep over the Yankees, the Tigers (111-23) clinched the A.L. Central division, and ended their 8 year playoff drought.

The Blue Jays lead the East by 11 games over the Rays. The Astros lead the West by just a half game over the Angels. The Rangers are just 2 games back. The Twins (81-53) have a comfortable lead in the Wild Card race. The Rays (73-61) and Yankees (72-62) hold the last 2 Wild Card spots, with the Angels just a game back, and the Rangers just 2.5 games back.

In the National League, the Braves (88-46) lead the East by 14 games over the Mets. The Pirates (79-55) have a half game lead over the Brewers (78-55). In the West, the Dodgers (83-50) lead the Padres by 11 games. The Brewers, Mets (74-60), and the Cardinals (74-60) hold the Wild Card spots. The Padres are just 1.5 games back.

September Callups

With the calendar rolling to September, the MLB rosters expand from 26 players to 28. Each team is able to call up one pitcher, and one position player. The Tigers called up pitcher Jason Foley, and IF/OF Tyler Nevin. Foley started the season in Detroit, but was optioned to Toledo after a 6.86 ERA in 21 innings. Nevin played 18 games in Detroit earlier this season, hitting .283 with 4 HR and 8 RBI.

The Tigers begin September with a three game series on the road against the Chicago White Sox (50-84). Matt Manning (10-2, 3.22) faces Michael Kopech (9-9, 3.72) in game 1. Eduardo Rodriguez (15-4, 3.48) faces Dylan Cease (6-13, 3.36) in game 2. Spencer Turnbull (17-2, 2.86) faces Chris Rodriguez (1-3, 2.25) in game 3. A Brutal April for Washington
(May 1, 2023)
Every team goes into the season with hopes that this might be that magical season, even the teams in rebuild hope for a bit of magic. That was quickly dashed for The Washington Nationals. With one month down, The Nationals appear to be headed towards the much predicted long season. With only 8 wins out of the first 27 (8-19) they still showed a few sign of improvement as a franchise. Josiah Gray, although 0-4 heas kept the ERA low and trails only the resurgent Patrick Corbin with 23 K's. At the plate Joey Meneses picked up where he left off in his rookie season, with a .307 AVG. Luis Garcia is also having a strong start to the season, hitting .333.

I simmed a season messing around in the draft I drafted an 83 potential 3B with the 13th pick. The Nats drafted an 80 overall 99 potential 3B with the 2nd pick. We get to the off season and I really wanted that guy so I was seeing what it would take to get him and they accepted a deal straight up for the guy I drafted lol trade logic is so ***. Give us a slider already to make it harder.

I feel for you, the first season was super tough for me too. I played every pitch of every game and by the time August rolled around I was questioning my sanity. It's funny that Patrick Corbin is doing so well for you, becuase he was horrible in both '22 and the start of '23 for me. Then I sent him back to AAA and THEN I onloaded his contract on the White Sox, who at the time were in fourth place in the AL Central but ended up with a wild card spot. I should actually see how Corbin did for them...

Here's hoping for another successful Nationals rebuild!

Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves

Game One Starters: Stephen Strasburg vs Max Fried

Kike Hernandez strikes again! After Brady House doubled on the seventh pitch of the at bat, Hernandez took Fried deep to left, and the Nationals once again strike early. Dansby Swanson answered in the bottom of the first with a solo home run, and then both pitchers settled down for the next three innings. The Nationals would get three runs in the fifth, all after there were two outs and following a rare throwing error by Jose Iglesias that allowed Kike Hernandez to reach first. Andrew Vaughn singled to score Brady House, and Gleyber Torres doubled to score Hernandez and Vaughn. That would be the end of the line for Max Fried, as the Braves would go to the bullpen for Jameson Taillon. Taillon would give up two runs in the seventh, after allowing a walk to Brady House and a double to Kike Hernandez, he then intentionally walked Andrew Vaughn to load the bases with nobody out. Gleyber Torres came through with a two run double, forcing Atlanta to turn to Kirby Yates, who would get out of the inning without further damage. Stephen Strasburg went six innings, giving up a run on four hits, walking two and striking out four. Sean Doolittle, Kyle Finnegan, and Victor Arano pitched three shutout innings and the Nationals take a very important Game One victory

Don’t defend this. It wasn’t a franchise I’m keeping just messing around. I love mlb the show but the ‘just avoid this’ crowd is why nothing changes
