It's always been a show issue of needing to rest players too often. I dont mind it too much because it forces me to use my bench. Durability rating of the players matters a ton.

      CLEVELAND GUARDIANS 2024 UPDATE

We've reached July 1 and the Guardians, after a very weak start to the season, are heating up here in year 2. It helps that the AL Central is weak, but there is no doubt that the offense has really started to tear it up. The Twins have led the division all season but are now looking over their shoulder.....

Our goal was to reach the WS by year 3, but the players think we're ahead of that pace.

I attached the current standings as of July 1, 2024, and some current league leader info.

April 2024 my first round draft pick - starting pitcher - tore his rotator cup on his second start of the season. Out for the season.

I wonder how far his attributes will decline with a year off.

          August 25-28: FLAGSTAFF (76-56) @ WEST TEXAS (65-68)
Stadium: Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark (Capacity: 13,329)

          August 25: Bison 5, Hops 1
          August 26: Bison 6, Hops 1
          August 27: Hops 6, Bison 4 (10)
          August 28: Hops 4, Bison 2

Lubbock, TX (AP) - After dropping the first two, the Flagstaff Hops rallied to win the final two games of this four game series against West Texas to open up their road trip. Big picture is that the Hops still have a seven game division lead with only four and a half weeks left in the regular season.

The Bison rallied late in the opener for a 5-1 victory.

Oscar Aleman got the Hops on the board in the first inning with a solo home run off of Jim Valencia. That would be the lone run for the Hops in this one. The home run was Aleman’s 17th on the season.

Alex Farmer (9-9) cruised through the first five innings, but ran into trouble and didn’t make it out of the sixth. Carlos Quinones drew a walk, and advanced to third on a David Razae single. Bobby Rayburn then blooped one to right that got past Emmitt Hampton as he dove to make the catch, resulting in a two-run triple. Rayburn then scored on a David Petrovski groundout to make it 3-1.

Quentin Henley (14) and Chase Ponder (19) then hit back-to-back home runs to open the bottom of the seventh to extend the Bison lead to 5-1.

Jim Valencia (5-7) earned the win, tossing 6 1/3 innings and allowing one run on six hits. The Bison bullpen got the final eight outs without allowing a hit.

On Saturday afternoon, Lowell Alan Pressley dominated the Hops, tossing a complete game as the Bison won easily 6-1. Pressley allowed five hits and struck out nine, allowing only a solo home run to Arturo Mardones in the third inning as the only run.

West Texas grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Bobby Rayburn RBI double.

After Flagstaff tied it up in the top of the third on the Mardones solo home run, the Bison struck back for four of their own. Both Carlos Quiñones (25) and David Razae (18) hit two-run home runs off of Ramon Garcia and the Bison were on their way.

Ernesto Lucero would add a solo home run in the seventh, his 20th on the season.

Lowell Alan Pressley improved to (13-5) on the season, while Ramon Garcia dropped to (9-7). Garcia allowed five runs on six hits in five innings of work.

Robbie Westbrook stole his 30th base on the season in the losing effort.

On Sunday afternoon, the Hops rallied late to tie it and then won it in extra innings, 6-4. Roberto Geronimo had the big hit, a two-out RBI single that scored Isaac Nettles with the go ahead run.

Flagstaff would grab a 2-0 lead in the second on an Art Mason two-run home run, his 27th on the year. But West Texas immediately responded with three runs of their own, off of Shoe-Lace O’Tying, in the bottom half. Bobby Rayburn lined an RBI double that scored David Petrovski. Ernesto Lucero followed that up with a two-run single to give the Bison a 3-2 lead.

The Hops would get one back in the top of the third to tie it back up. Robbie Westbrook singled, and stole second. Isaac Nettles then laced a double off of the wall in right to score Westbrook and tie the ballgame.

Bobby Rayburn would untie the game in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to left off of Shoe-Lace O’Tying. It was Rayburn’s 21st on the season.

In the top of the eighth, Josh Ortega singled back up the middle with two outs. But that was huge as Donnie Roland hammered a ball off of the wall in left center that allowed Ortega to come all the way around and tie the game at 4-4.

West Texas had a great chance to win it in the ninth as Ernesto Lucero doubled to right to open the inning. But Aldo Osuna would wiggle his way out of trouble, striking out Vega looking to end the inning with Lucero on third.

Back-to-back singles from Isaac Nettles and Emmitt Hampton opened the tenth for Flagstaff. Josh Ortega and Donnie Roland would strike out. Roberto Geronimo, who has been in an awful slump, came through with an RBI single to score Nettles and put the Hops ahead. Art Mason would then reach on a throwing error from Carlos Quiñones that allowed Hampton to score a big insurance run.

That was all that Vic Miller would need, as he sent down the Bison in order to pick up his 39th save on the season. The win moved the Hops seven games clear of Salt Lake with 31 games left.

David Benitez left the game in the bottom of the ninth as he injured his knee trying to catch a foul ball. The team has placed him on the 10-day Injured List and recalled Kiko Pressley from Triple-A Albuquerque. Pressley played 59 games with the Hops last season as a rookie, hitting .238 with one homer and 15 RBIs.

In Monday afternoon’s getaway day special, the Hops won a hard fought 4-2 victory to split the four game series. Ryan Pressley (14-7) tossed seven solid innings, allowing two runs and scattering five hits, while striking out eight and walking two.

Flagstaff would take a 1-0 lead in the third on an Arturo Mardones RBI single to center that scored Roberto Geronimo. The Bison would immediately answer back with a Carlos Quiñones sacrifice fly following a Padilla triple.

In the fifth, just called up third baseman Kiko Pressley made an impact as he tripled home Isaac Nettles. Nettles replaced Arturo Mardones, who had to leave the game with a leg injury. Robbie Westbrook would ad a sacrifice fly and the Hops went up 3-1.

Chase Ponder would get the Bison a run closer in the bottom half with a solo home run, his 20th on the year.

A Robbie Westbrook sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth would give closer Vic Miller some breathing room. But Miller would not need any help as he sent down the Bison in order to pick up his league leading 40th save.

Kiko Pressley, making his season debut after his call up from Albuquerque, had an impact in his first game. Batting leadoff, he went 2 for 5 with a single, triple, run scored and an RBI.

After the game Arturo Mardones was evaluated and it was determined that he would not have to be place on the Injured List, but would likely get a day or two off.

The Hops (76-56) will now head to Hodgetown to take on the Amarillo Honey Hunters (54-78), currently sitting in last place in the Mountain East.

Around the League: Ken Hollinger homered three times and drove in all seven runs as Surprise won in Tucson 7-1. The defending Desert League Champions are currently seven games out of the lead in the DL Central and 12 games out of a Wild Card spot.

Catcher Mike Anderson tripled and hit a go ahead solo home run in the ninth as Chandler won 4-3 at Las Vegas. The Chiefs are now 37 games over .500 at (83-46). Josh Hawk homered twice, including a huge three-run blast in the top of the ninth, as ML Central leading El Paso rallied to defeat Fort Worth 7-6.

Roswell scored nine times in the third inning, as they pounded out 19 hits and five home runs in a 15-8 victory over last place Albuquerque. The Aliens are just four games out of a Wild Card spot in the Mountain League.

Mesa rallied late, scoring the go ahead run in the top of the ninth on a Josh Nichols RBI single, to defeat Gilbert 8-7 and move to with two games of the top Wild Card spot in the Desert League.

Freddie Hewitt lined an RBI double to help Las Vegas to a walk off win over Chandler on Saturday evening, 6-5. Junior Lima’s solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning tied the ball game to setup Hewitt’s big walk-off hit.

Rafael Geronimo hit two home runs and drove in four as surging Salt Lake rallied to defeat Surprise 8-7. The Chukars are now four game over .500 and sit in the second Wild Card spot in the Mountain League. Glendale pounded out 21 hits as they demolished Henderson 17-2. Edgar Cabrera went 4 for 6 with a home run and drove in three in the win.

Amarillo’s Lincoln Farmington (9-10) tossed a complete game, three-hitter, striking out 12 and walking two as the Honey Hunters defeated Prescott 5-0.

Gilbert walked it off on Sunday afternoon at home with a 5-4 victory over Mesa on a Steve Heupel RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning. The win moved the Barnstormers five games clear of Mesa in the Wild Card race. The Barnstormers did lose left fielder Brian Valenzuela to a broken shin, which will likely end his season.

Las Vegas walked it off again on Sunday afternoon as Stanton Brickman lined a bases loaded double in the bottom of the ninth to help Las Vegas to 4-3 victory over Chandler. This was a great three game series with each game being decided in the final inning.

Salt Lake scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for a 6-3 victory over Fort Worth. Robby Payne hit a two-out grand slam, his 19th home run on the season, to put Salt Lake ahead for good as they improved to (17-10) in August.

Look at the durability ratings of the position player's. Adjust them higher if you want or just play them through til the next scheduled off day. It is a risk and reward in doing that. Put in the DH position for a game, it will some juice back in em'.

Pirates suffer another probable season ending injury as regular season creeps towards end

Endy Rodriguez, the Pirates likely catcher of the future suffered a fractured foot in game two against the Reds as he slid into home plate and got his foot caught on the catchers leg.

Rodriguez joins Andrew McCutchen, Ke'Bryan Hayes and Oneil Cruz on the injured list. All of those players aside from McCutchen are likely out for the year with Cruz being a definite with his torn ACL.

At the moment, Anthony Santander and Bryan Reynolds are the keys to Pittsburgh's offense and they are performing well but it would be nice to have the teams other key players as the season gets closer and closer to the end.

Miguel Andujar got a second chance in the MLB thanks to Hayes' injury and another former MLB player got his with Rodriguez going down. Austin Hedges got the call back to the majors after he spent the first half of the season down in triple A. He has taken over Rodriguez's role as the backup catcher to Kevin Plawecki. In his one game thus far, Hedges went 1 for 3. The Pirates do lose Rodriguez's ability to also play in the outfield but Hedges can sub at third if the need comes up.

The Pirates next series will send them to Minnesota to face off against the Twins (65-57/1st AL Central). The series will be the first and last meeting between the two teams in the 2023 regular season.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

Running behind again on updates so we'll do it this way.

                  Redbird Report - Offseason Wrap-Up

The Cardinals have completed the offseason and are heading to Florida for Spring Training. The Cardinals didn't make too many changes to a club that won the NL Pennant and lost the World Series in 7 games despite having key players injured. They will get back Dylan Carlson and Tommy Edman to start the regular season, so that is like an offseason acquistion in itself.

The biggest splash the Cardinals made was to the pitching staff, primarily the starting rotation. The Cardinals signed both Max Fried (1 year) and Tyler Glasnow (2 years with player option) to bolster their rotation to be strong throughout and hope they have the balance within the team to get back to the postseason for another deep run. They added AJ Minter to the bullpen as well as Michael Fulmer after losing Jose Alvarado (Guardians) and Giovanny Gallegos (Braves) in free agency.

The other big move was the Cardinals traded two players away from the World Series roster. Jordan Montgomery was sent to the Rays for pitching prospects, most notably Mick Abel. Montgomery became expendable, also his $18M salary, when the Cardinals signed Fried. Adding Glasnow wouldn't have been possible without the Montgomery trade, as well as the second player, Willson Contreras. Contreras was traded to the Guardians for more prospects. Contreras struggled as his time with the Cardinals never hitting above .220 in either season. With his $17.5M on the books, the Cardinals made the move to get rid of the salary and will turn to Ivan Herrera as their everyday backstop. Ali Sanchez was signed in the offseason to serve as his backup and mentor.

The Cardinals did re-sign Jordan Hicks, Paul Goldschmidt, and Tyler O'Neill from the World Series roster.

Other than that, the Cardinals stood pat aside from minor league moves to balance out the roster and move guys who were "stuck" for other prospects that may be a little bit further away from the big leagues or for positions of needed depth.

Not the most exciting offseason for the Cardinals, but acquiring Max Fried, Tyler Glasnow, and AJ Minter to help strengthen the pitching staff is a big boost, even if Fried and Glasnow may only be in St.Louis for one season. Add them to Julio Urias and Jack Flaherty and you have a dominant 4 arms in the rotation.

Other Notable Signing Around the League

                  Juan Soto - Twins
                  Shane Bieber - Diamondbacks
                  Danny Jensen - Cubs
                  Brandon Woodruff - Orioles
                  Pete Alonso - Mets (re-signed)
                  Jose Altuve - Astros (re-signed)
                  Walker Buehler - Dodgers (re-signed)
                  Gleybar Torres - Tigers

There were obviously others, but this is all I can recall at the moment.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Holy smokes what a start to the ALDS vs the Astros

Lost 3-2 in 15 innings on a silly bloop single that never usually drops.

Won game 2 11-9 on a walk off 2 run homer. I was down 7-3 and had given up hope but tied it 7-7 then Altuve hit a 2 run homer to go up 9-7 then scored 4 in the 9th to win

                    Won game 3 2-1.

Altuve is killing me, he’s 6-12 with 2 homers and 4 doubles!

I’ve noticed I rarely have errors and now I’ve had 4 in 3 games which 1 of them straight up lost me game 1. Kind of frustrating

Trout and Ohtani went 0-13 in game 1 which sunk me.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

My team sucks right now. Went on a 6-game road trip out West and got swept by both the Dodger and Angels, and I have now lost seven in a row. I only scored a total of 10 runs and my team is striking out 10 plus times per game. My pitching hasn't been terrible, but I just lost Pablo Lopez for 6 plus months with a torn labrum. I would have called up Louie Varland but he just tore his labrum two days prior, so I recalled Bailey Ober, who has struggled at St. Paul, but was good earlier in Minnesota this year.

Trevor Larnach seems to be my only bright spot hitting .260 and a team-leading 8 homeruns. Buxton and Correa are both hitting around .220. Austin Martin is tearing it up down at St. Paul and he will be called up soon. I should also be getting Royce Lewis back from injury as well.

                        August 29-31: FLAGSTAFF (76-59) @ AMARILLO (57-78)
                        Stadium: Hodgetown (Capacity: 6,169)

                        August 29: Honey Hunters 7, Hops 2
                        August 30: Honey Hunters 4, Hops 3
                        August 31: Honey Hunters 5, Hops 3

Amarillo, TX (AP) - The slumping Flagstaff Hops were swept by the lowly Amarillo Honey Hunters to end the road trip and end the month of August. The Hops are in full on panic mode as the calendar turns to September with Salt Lake now breathing down their necks.

In the opener, the Honey Hunters hit four home runs on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Hops. Brothers Bobby and Joe Huff each hit home runs for Amarillo as they outhit the Hops 12-6.

Flagstaff would grab a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Donnie Roland RBI single.

Jesus Baez would tie it up with a solo home run to open the third. Joe Huff would then blast a two-run home run off of Juro Yamaguchi to put the Honey Hunters up 3-1.

Emmitt Hampton would hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth, his 28th on the season, to cut the Amarillo lead to 3-2.

A Daryl Sweet solo home run in the sixth off of Angelo Chacin put the Honey Hunters back up by two. Then in the eighth with Chacin tiring, manager Matt Blake left him in to face the lefty Bobby Huff and it was a mistake as Huff turned on a 2-2 fastball and blasted a three-run home run to put this one away.

Blake said afterwards, “I like Angelo in that spot to get that out. I guess next time I need to be more mindful of his pitch count that late in his outing and make the move.”

Robert Ozone (6-14) picked up the win for Amarillo, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out six. Juro Yamaguchi fell to (9-9) on the year, allowing three runs on six hits in only 4 2/3 innings. He threw 90 pitches.

On Wednesday evening, the Honey Hunters rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Hops. Chris Fuentes two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh off of reliever Aldo Osuna proved to be the difference for Amarillo.

Once again, Flagstaff would grab an early lead in this one as Oscar Aleman singled home Art Mason in the top of the second inning.

Amarillo would get that run back in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run from Todd Hughes. It was his third on the season.

The Hops would retake the lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run from Emmitt Hampton, his 29th on the season, and the Hops lead it 3-1.

Mike Hendricks would get one back in the bottom half of that inning with a solo home run to right off of the foul pole, his third on the season.

The game would stay that way until the bottom of the seventh. Last night manager Matt Blake left Angelo Chacin in for one batter too long. Tonight he pulled starter Alex Farmer with two-outs and a man on first, for reliever Aldo Osuna. The first batter that he faced, Chris Fuentes, made his pay as he blasted a two-run home run to right to give Amarillo the lead at 4-3.

The Honey Hunters bullpen then closed down the Hops with Luke Clements picking up his 11th save. It was just another galling loss in a season that is coming off the rails after an incredible start. The Hops had a 16 games lead at the All-Star break and now their lead is down to five games as the season turns toward September.

In the finale, the Hops would once again grab an early lead on an Emmitt Hampton two-run home run in the third, his third of the series and 30th on the campaign.

But the Honey Hunters would whittle away at that lead. Chris Fuentes lined a two-out RBI single in the fourth. Bobby Huff homered in the fifth to tie it, and Luke Brady homered in the sixth to put the Honey Hunters ahead 3-2.

In the eighth, Leif Radford would hit a huge two-run insurance home run off of Sam Varela to put the Honey Hunters up 5-2.

In the ninth, the Hops would load the bases with only one out. Kiko Pressley would get a run home with an RBI ground out to cut it to 5-3. But Luke Clements got Robbie Westbrook to line out to short to end it and complete the improbable sweep for Amarillo.

Flagstaff (76-59) will now return home to open September against red-hot Colorado Springs (66-69) and St George (68-66).

Around the League: Las Vegas won for the 14th time in 18 games and moved into first place in the DL West with a 6-4 victory over Austin. Jose Lima went 2 for 5 and drove in two in the win.

Brian Viña hit a walk off home run as Salt Lake won their fourth straight with a 3-2 victory over Fort Worth. The Chukars are squarely in a Wild Card spot in the Mountain League with only a month left in the regular season. On Wednesday afternoon, the Chukars then completed the sweep of Fort Worth with an 8-2 victory. The Chukars hit four home runs as they pulled to with five games of first-place Flagstaff.

Derek Hills doubled, homered and drove in six as the red-hot Chukars took down Santa Fe on Thursday evening by a 7-4 score. The Chukars finished August with an IBL best (19-9) record and now have the Hops clearly in their sights. The teams still have six matchups remaining in September.

Is there a sweet spot that people put the trade slider at depending on the time of the season?

I’m getting close to June and thinking I need to up my slider at some point. I put it almost all the way down in April after I saw a couple erratic trades.

Even when you're terrible, a walk off feels good. Playing the defending World Series Champion Astros, the lowly A's were down 5-4 in the bottom of the 9th. Backup catcher Carlos Perez (2 days before Manny Pina comes off the IL and his inevitable optioning to AAA Las Vegas) drew a 2 out walk. Tyler Wade pinch ran and collected his 15th Stolen Base. Then Tony Kemp, who already had an RBI single, belted just his 2nd HR of the year to win the game.

Exactly ⅓ of the way through the season, my A's are sitting at 15-39. It's not pretty. I'm dead last in the league in batting average, hits, strikeouts, slugging, OBP, era, and walks allowed. There's only 3 hitters in my lineup with even a .700 ops, and only 7 position players with a positive WAR (and one of those got injured in the second game of the season, and another has 13 plate appearances). It's been rough.

But there's a little hope. Drew Steckenrider has been really good since getting called up. Seth Brown, Manny Piña, and Aledmys Diaz are all due to return from injury in the next 3 days.

First time in a long time I've taken over a team that needs so much work, but so far it's been a lot of fun.
