The Mets have advanced to the NLCS to take on the Dodgers after sweeping the Giants in the divisional round

Game 1 the Mets got on the board early after a Jeff McNeil HR in the first inning got things started and they never looked back on their way to a 9-2 victory

Game 2 the Mets jumped out to a 5-1 lead but their bullpen imploded in the 7th inning allowing SF to score four runs and tie the game. In the bottom of the 7th Francisco Lindor would lead off with a double, advance on a wild pitch and score on a sacrifice fly. Edwin Diaz was able to close the game out for a 6-5 win

Game 3 Logan Webb baffled the Mets for seven innings with his slider as the Giants took a 1-0 lead in to the 8th when the Mets were finally able to get two runners on base against Webb. Gabe Kapler went to the bullpen and they did nothing but throw fuel on the fire as the Mets put up for in the8th and two more in the 9th for a 6-1 victory and a trip to LA

Game 1 of the NLCS will feature Justin Verlander vs Shohei Ohtani at Dodger Stadium. Starling Marte will rejoin the Mets after missing nearly two months with a broken ankle

I’ve blown back to back 5 run leads in the final 6 outs of the ballgame against the Cubs.

        So frustrating and gut-wrenching

Yu Darvish and Zac Gallen were both dealing early in the game, but the Padres would get on the board first with a Sacrifice Fly from Nelson Cruz to put the Padres up 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th

The Dbacks would score a run of their own in the top of the 5th off of an Alek Thomas bomb to RF

They would continue scoring in the top of the 6th with a 2-run Blast from Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

In the bottom of the 6th the Padres would tie the game up in the bottom of the 6th with an Adam Engel 2 RBI single.

Tyler Gilbert would give up what would be the winning run in the bottom of the 8th on a Nelson Cruz RBI Double.

Josh Hader would come in an nail down the save leaving Alek Thomas on 3rd.

Tyler Gilbert took the los and moves to 1-1 on the season

Drew Pomeranz would pick up the win with Hader the save.

Next Up is the (1-5) Los Angeles Dodgers for another 4 game set. The (5-1) Dbacks swept them last series in Los Angeles. Now the Dbacks will finally make their home Debut.

PADRES WIN ALL 4 IN THE ATL

In a thrilling four-game series, the San Diego Padres dominated the Atlanta Braves, sweeping them and showcasing their power on both offense and defense.

After a slow start to the year, Juan Soto came alive and led the Padres' charge against Atlanta. Soto, who had previously struggled with a 1-for-22 start to the season, exploded by going 9-for-17 with two home runs in the 4 game set in Atlanta. This impressive performance raised his average from a paltry .045 to a solid .256.

Moving on to Game 3, the Padres continued their winning streak with a resounding 4-0 victory. Building upon the excitement from Blake Snell who had thrown a no-hitter in the previous game, Michael Wacha delivered another exceptional performance. Wacha and the pitching staff allowed just one hit throughout the game. Fernando Tatis Jr. also contributed significantly, going 3-for-5 with a home run. Gary Sanchez added a crucial home run in the top of the 9th inning to provide insurance for the Padres. Wacha pitched five strong innings, striking out seven while surrendering only one hit. The bullpen, consisting of Wilson, Suarez, Martinez, and Cosgrove, continued their dominance, throwing four innings of no-hit ball.

In the series finale, the Padres showcased their pitching prowess once again. The team triumphed with an 8-2 victory, propelled by an outstanding performance from Juan Soto. Soto went a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. He also drew a walk during the game. Fernando Tatis Jr. added to the offensive onslaught, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run of his own. Manny Machado also contributed a home run to the Padres' impressive offensive display.

However, the Padres faced some pitching challenges in the final game as scheduled starter Seth Lugo was unable to play due to an injury suffered during pre game warm ups. Brent Honeywell stepped in and pitched 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out two batters. The bullpen, consisting of Luis Garcia, Tim Hill, Steven Wilson, and Tom Cosgrove, stepped up to the plate and held it down, throwing multiple innings and combining for eight strikeouts.

Overall, the San Diego Padres showcased their dominance throughout the series, with Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr. leading the way on offense. The pitching staff, including Michael Wacha, played a pivotal role in securing the victories, delivering impressive performances and shutting down the Atlanta Braves' offense.

                2024 Washington Nationals

Washington Nationals (6-6) vs Miami Marlins (5-6)

Game One: Trevor Rogers vs Lucas Giolito
Neither team would get a hit until Jazz Chisholm singled in the fourth. Trevor Rogers did not give up a hit until there were two out in the fifth, then Brandon Nimmo hit a solo home run. Rogers would leave after just five innings, giving up the one run on one hit, walking four and striking out four. Lucas Giolito would go six shutout innings, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out four. Gleyber Torres hit a solo home run off of Elieser Hernandez in the sixth, and the Nationals held in to win 2-0.

Game Two: Pablo Lopez vs Josiah Gray
The Marlins scored a run in each of the first two innings: Jazz Chisholm hit a solo home run for the first run of the game and Joey Bart singled to score Jorge Polanco, who had tripled in the previous at bat. Pablo Lopez did not allow a hit until Mitch Haniger hit a solo home run in the fifth, but Miami would score again in the sixth. Josiah Gray walked Jazz Chisholm to start the inning, and Jake Fraley doubled to chase Gray from the game. Sean Doolittle came in and gave up a sac fly to CJ Cron followed by an RBI single from Jesus Sanchez. That would close the book on Josiah Gray, who went 5 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out five. The Nationals would only get one more hit, a single from Luis Garcia; but they could not get him across and the Marlins take a 4-1 victory that felt more like a complete blowout than the score indicates.

Game Three: Jesus Luzardo vs Cade Cavalli
Jesus Sanchez hit a solo home run in the second, but Washington for the run back when Brady House grounded into a double play with the bases loaded. Washington would score two more runs in the fourth: the first on a throwing error and the second on a groundout by House. Miami would answer with another solo home run, this one by CJ Cron, but Washington for the run back when Brandon Nimmo and Kike Hernandez hit back to back doubles in the bottom of the fifth. Miami got a run back in the sixth when Jazz Chisholm hit an RBI double, although he should have been called out on strikes, but a poor call by the umpire led to an extra pitch and Chisholm took full advantage of it. That would end Cavalli’s day, his final line reading: 5.2IP, 3R, 6H, 2BB, 4SO. This was his best outing of the year, as there are rumblings abound that either he, Josiah Gray, or both, may be losing a starting spot in favor of Zach Davies; although he has also struggled out of the bullpen. Felipe Escalona is coming, most likely before the September callups.

The Marlins would tie the game in the seventh following a triple from Jesus Sanchez and groundout from Jorge Polanco. That would set up a wild ninth inning: Aaron Bummer would give up back to back singles to Jake Fraley and CJ Cron before Sanchez hit into a fielder’s choice. That would give the Marlins men on first and third with one out, but Jorge Polanco, on a squeeze play, would pop up a bunt attempt that Bummer made a lunging grab for, followed by a throw to first for an unassisted double play, ending the inning. Then, in the bottom of the ninth, Keibert Ruiz would pinch hit for fellow catcher Wilmer Perez. He singled, but was called out at second on a sac bunt attempt by Victor Robles. Robles then stole second, advanced to third on a ground ball by Brandon Nimmo, and scored when Luis Garcia (pinch hitting for Kike Hernandez despite his early season struggles) hit a single to right for a walk off victory. It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win.

Game Four: Sixto Sanchez vs Stephen Strasburg
The Marina scored in the second on a base hit from JJ Bleday, but Washington responded with two runs on a home run from Gleyber Torres. The Nationals added two more in the fifth as Brandon Nimmo and Andrew Vaughn each drove in a run. Sixto Sanchez would leave after just 4.1 innings, giving up four runs (only two of them earned) on six hits, no walks and six strikeouts. Stephen Strasburg would go six innings, giving up the lone run on six hits, walking one and striking out five. The Nationals added three runs in the eighth; Keibert Ruiz drove in a run on a double and Brady House added two more with a double as well. The Nationals sent out Victor Arano, Carl Edwards Jr and Zach Warren for an inning each, and none of them would allow a run. The Nationals win going away, 7-1 and take three of four from their division rivals.

The Nationals (9-7) will have a day off before playing Milwaukee (8-7) for three games at home.

The NLCS is heading to Queens with the series tied 1-1. In game 1 it was a pitcher’s duel with the Dodgers getting on the scoreboard first with a run in the 6th inning. The Mets were finally able to get Ohtani in the 7th behind doubles from Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, and Omar Narvaez. A Brandon Nimmo RBI single game the Mets a 3-1 lead. They would add two insurance runs in the 9th for a 5-1 victory.

In game 2 the wind was blowing out as evidenced by the Mets five solo home runs in the first five innings. That wasn’t enough as the Dodgers were relentless at the dish against both Kodai Senga and the Mets bullpen as the Dodgers win 9-6. The probable matchups for games 3 and 4 are Tony Gonsolin vs Max Scherzer and Walker Buehler vs Tylor Megill

Chicago White Sox Franchise: Game Six @ Los Angeles Angels

                        Series: White Sox 3-2

With Lucas Giolito on the mound for the White Sox, Chicago came into this game with ample confidence of finally notching their first World Series appearance since 2005. On the mound for the Angels would be Patrick Sandoval with their season again on the line.

The story of this game would be performances of those pitchers, with one putting in a complete game shutout, while the other labored through the first few innings before settling down entirely too late for his team.

Unfortunately for the White Sox, it was Sandoval who was dominant. Having struggled coming into this game, Sandoval put on a performance for the ages, completely shutting down the premier offense of Chicago. His changeup was as good as it has ever been, as Chicago posted a 2-12 performance with five strikeouts against that pitch. Sandoval’s rebound was not expected and another reason the White Sox had confidence. Sandoval’s final line was nine innings of five hit ball with zero walks and nine strikeouts.

As for Giolito, the first three innings in particular were a struggle, giving up homers to Jared Walsh and Taylor Ward, along with a Hunter Renfro single to knock in Shohei Ohtani. He would dominated the fourth through the sixth, going nine-up-nine-down on a grand total of 19 pitches before giving up an additional run in the seventh on a David Fletcher single before being pulled. He ended the game with 6.1 innings pitched, four runs allowed, and seven strikeouts.

The White Sox are now reeling, having been outscored 15-3 over the last 18 innings, as the offense has gone completely flat at the worst time, as seemingly the only guy to even bring his bat to this one was Andrew Benintendi, who notches two doubles.

Up next is Game Seven in Los Angeles, with the projected starters being Michael Kopech against Tyler Anderson with the World Series on the line.

It’s not looking good for the Mets in the NLCS as the Dodgers have jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Game three Scherzer allowed four runs over six innings including a back breaking two run HR to Ohtani as the Dodgers would go on to win 5-1. Game four was the real heartbreaker. No score in the bottom of the 8th and we finally get to Walker Buehler with a Lindor lead off double and Dave Roberts yanks him. Pete Alonso greets Jimmy Nelson with an RBI single and we take a 1-0 lead to the 9th with Edwin Diaz coming in. He gives up a lead off single and the next batter squares to sacrifice, which I’m thrilled about but the ball lands in a spot where I can’t get to it in time to throw out the runner. First and second with no outs and they sacrifice again, this time I’m able to get the runner at second but Freddie Freeman is coming up with a man on third and one out and there is zero doubt he’ll get the run in just like he has done in every big spot against the Mets for the past ten years. He gets a sacrifice fly to tie the game, we do nothing in the bottom of the 9th and our bullpen implodes in the 10th. Dodgers win 5-2. My bullpen has played above their skill level all season and things seem to finally be swinging back in the other direction.

Chicago White Sox Franchise: Game Seven @ Los Angeles Angels

                            Series: Tied 3-3

In one of the biggest games in both of these franchises’ histories, the pitching matchup was Michael Kopech versus Tyler Anderson. Both entered the game having been stellar in the postseason, arguably being the best pitchers during the postseason for either squad.

Things would get off to a tough start for Kopech, as a leadoff single for David Fletcher would lead to a massive two run homer from Shohei Ohtani, who has been essentially either striking out or hitting the ball 500 feet all series, putting the Angels up 2-0 in the first inning.

Kopech would get into a groove after that pitch, managing to keep the Angels off the scoreboard. His own team, however, was struggling to create any offense themselves. Chicago had improved their approach from Game Six and were putting together really strong at bats, but had nothing to show for it though four innings. Things would change in the fifth, as Yasmani Grandal worked a 2-2 count and caught an Anderson fastball over the middle of the plate and finally put the White Sox on the scoreboard again, making it 2-1 in the Angels favor through five innings.

The sixth would start out hot for the White Sox, as Tim Anderson and Andrew Benintendi would start the inning off with doubles, tying the game at 2-2. The inning was not over though, as after Eloy Jimenez lined out to left, Luis Robert would be intentionally walked with one out to get to Oscar Colas. Colas would work a 2-2 count and then hit a ground ball that looked like would end the inning, but pure hustle down the line allowed Colas to beat the throw. Runners on first and third, Jake Burger would step to the plate. Burger, who who hit a massive grand slam in game three of the wild card series against the New York Yankees, would come through for the road team with a massive double down the left field line, scoring both Benintendi and Colas and putting the White Sox up 4-2. Grandal would come up huge again with a single up the middle, and Burger would beat out Mike Trout’s throw home to put the White Sox up 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

With Kopech dealing, Chicago threw him out there again. After getting a Trout line out, Kopech’s command would start to falter as he walked Ohtani. After a Hunter Renfoe single that Colas almost caught on a dive in right, Kopech was replaced by Yency Almonte with runners on first and third and one out. Jared Walsh would greet him with a single to left field, scoring Ohtani. Brandon Drury would immediately follow with a single as well to score Renfroe from second. Almonte would get Gio Urshella to strike out before forcing a lazy fly ball from Max Stassi. White Sox led 5-4 after six innings.

The White Sox would manage to get the bases loaded in the top of the seventh with no outs after a Yoan Moncada single, Anderson single, and Benintendi being hit by a pitch. Eloy Jimenez would step to plate in a crucial at bat, and would successfully put the ball in play, getting a run across to make it 6-4 but grounding out into a double play. Luis Robert would end the inning with a ground out.

Almonte would get Renfroe out to start the bottom of the seventh before being replaced by Garrett Crochet. Crochet would force two quick ground outs from Ward and Trout.

The White Sox would fail to score in the top of the sixth, putting Ohtani to the plate with Crochet still on the mound. Lefty on lefty crime would be committed, as Ohtani turned on a fastball and hit his fifth homer of the series 426 feet to right field. Kendall Graveman would enter the game with no outs and Chicago clinging to a 6-5 lead. Renfroe would immediately hit a smoked double, and the pressure of a potential tied game was on. Graveman would not buckle, getting a ground out of Walsh, a strikeout of Drury, and a ground out from Urshella to put us to the ninth with a White Sox lead still intact.

The White Sox would flirt with blowing the game open in the ninth, largely due to what could have been a catastrophic error by David Fletcher. After a Gavin Sheets reached on a single and a Moncada strikeout, Anderson would hit a soft grounder to Fletcher at short, and Fletcher would promptly boot it and get no outs. Now two runners on and one out, Benintendi was again hit by a pitch. Bases loaded, Jimenez at the plate….. and he popped up. Robert would then smoke a ball right to Ward in left.

In would go Liam Hendricks for the save to send the White Sox to the World Series. First pitch: pop up from Stassi. Second pitch: Fletcher lineout to Anderson at short. Ward would then work a full count with Trout in the on deck circle. Hendriks threw his best fastball, getting a fly out towards Colas in right…… sending the White Sox to the World Series!!

After blowing a 3-1 lead to force this massive Game Seven, the White Sox found enough offense to put the hard hitting, constantly battling Angels down finally with a 6-5 win.

Up next, the White Sox will take on the New York Mets in the World Series. Until then, the Southside celebrates!

What started out as a promising post season for the Mets, with a three game sweep in the NLDS and a convincing win in game 1 of the NLCS has come to an abrupt end with the Dodgers winning the NLCS four games to one. The Dodgers took a 5-0 lead in to the 8th inning when Pete Alonso brought the Mets back from the dead with a grand slam but the Dodgers added an insurance run in the 9th and held on to win 6-4 and punch their ticket to the World Series.

Now the tough part begins, I need to figure out how to rebuild my pitching staff with minimal money to spend and huge salaries tied up in Verlander and Scherzer who will only continue to decline more
