PADRES POUND D-BACKS INTO SUBMISSION IN QUICK 2 GAME SWEEP

GAME 1: On to the second home series at Petco Park, the San Diego Padres showcased their prowess and secured an emphatic 9-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Padres' explosive offense and stellar pitching combined to dominate the game, leaving the Diamondbacks struggling to keep up.

The star of the game was none other than the electrifying Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis Jr. who displayed his immense talent and played a crucial role in the Padres' triumph. He launched a powerful home run, contributing to the team's offensive onslaught. Tatis Jr. also demonstrated his consistency at the plate, going 3-5, with three hits on the night.

Another standout performance came from Ha-Seong Kim. Kim showcased his versatility and offensive prowess, going 2-5 at the plate. His hits included a double and a triple, further adding to the Padres' offensive production. Kim also contributed two RBIs, amplifying his impact on the game.

Not to be outdone, Manny Machado and Gary Sanchez also played pivotal roles in the Padres' offensive outburst. Both players notched two hits, joining the hit parade and consistently finding ways to put pressure on the Diamondbacks' pitching staff.

On the pitching side, Seth Lugo was exceptional. Lugo took the mound and delivered a masterful performance, shutting down the Diamondbacks' lineup for six innings. He exhibited great control and command, surrendering no runs while striking out four batters. Lugo's exceptional outing set the tone for the Padres' dominant performance.

To close out the game, the Padres turned to their formidable bullpen. Brent Honeywell Jr. and Luis Garcia took the mound, showcasing their talents and preserving the lead. Together, they successfully shut down the Diamondbacks' offense and secured the impressive 9-1 victory for the Padres.

GAME 2: In an impressive display of dominance, the San Diego Padres secured a commanding 5-0 shutout victory over the struggling Arizona Diamondbacks. With this win, the Padres improved to an impressive 5-1 record, while the Diamondbacks remained winless, dropping to an unfortunate 0-6 start to the season.

The standout player of the game for the Padres was Jake Cronenworth, who delivered a stellar offensive performance. Cronenworth went 2-4 at the plate, making a significant impact with four RBIs. His most memorable moment came in the sixth inning when he launched a three-run home run, accounting for the majority of his RBIs. Cronenworth's clutch hitting played a pivotal role in the Padres' offensive production.

Contributing to the Padres' offensive outburst was Matt Carpenter, who belted his first home run of the season. Carpenter's solo shot added to the team's run tally, further cementing their control over the game. Trent Grisham also had a strong showing, going 2-4 with solid contributions at the plate.

On the other side, the struggling Juan Soto continued to face difficulties at the plate. Soto's struggles persisted as he is now 1/22 on the season, resulting in a meager .045 batting average. Despite Soto's struggles, the Padres remain hopeful that he will find his form soon and contribute to their offensive efforts.

Pitching-wise, Yu Darvish delivered an exceptional performance for the Padres. Darvish improved his season record to 2-0 as he took the mound and dominated the Diamondbacks' lineup. Over the course of 6.2 innings, Darvish allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out an impressive seven batters. His excellent command and ability to stifle the opposing offense played a crucial role in the Padres' shutout victory.

The Padres' bullpen proved to be just as formidable as their starting pitcher. Nick Martinez, Tim Hill, and Josh Hader combined to pitch 2 1/3 scoreless innings, preserving the shutout and ensuring the victory for the Padres.

      2023 Pittsburgh Pirates 09/01-09/03

Overall Record:75-62 (1st NL Central/6.5 over Milwaukee Brewers)

      Game Results

      Game 1
      Pirates-6
      Cardinals-2

      Game 2
      Pirates-4
      Cardinals-3

      Game 3
      Pirates-3
      Cardinals-2

Pirates end season series vs. Cardinals with a three game sweep

The Pirates and Cardinals ended their season series with the first series for to start September. Their series was owned by Pittsburgh who finished 12-1 on the year against their divisional foes.

This most recent sweep was mostlyl attributed to great starting pitching. However, game one did see Pittsburgh put up one of (if not THE) their highest single game hit totals (21). That game was won 6-2 and could have been a lot worse had the Pirates been able to not strand so many on base. Vince Velasquez was solid on the mound (8.0, 6 H 2 R, 1 BB, 7 SO) to compliment the teams offensive performance.

Game two was all Roansy Contreras who added 12 strikeouts to his season total as he creeps toward the coveted 200 K's on the year (195, 2nd behind Spencer Strider's 214 in the NL). Mitch Keller was also good in his start as he allowed just one run in seven innings of work.

The scores for games two and three came in one inning. In game 2, Jared Triolo hit a grand slam the 7th inning that led to Pittsburgh's 4-3 victory. The game three runs were scored in the 3rd inning off of a bases loaded two rbi single by Bryan Reynolds and another RBI single by Kevin Plawecki as Pittsburgh completed the sweep with the 3-2 victory.

Termarr Johnson made his MLB debut in the third game. It didnt go as well as he would have liked (0-4, 1K) but he did hit some balls hard and looked really good at second base.

Pittsburgh will now close out another divisional season series as they return home in a pivotal three game set Vs. the Milwaukee Brewers (68-68/2nd NL Central).

I'm only 6 games in...thinking of starting over to add all the new 1st round picks. But not sure yet. Not deep enough in yet where I'm too overly into my franchise but also not sure I want to set everything up again.

At this point, I'd wait until post TDL. See if this one grabs you. I had a chise from when the game came out that got corrupted back in the beginning of May. Played about 80% of the games and was in the beginning of July in it. I started a new one, figuring I'd just mess around and eventually start another one as the summer went. However, so far, I have just continued that one. I'm now in the 2024 playoffs, and have had a lot of fun building the team, watching guys grow etc. It's become my own little world. I have extreme rosteritis so it's hard for me to not match up exactly with the real world.

I'm even hesitant if I'll start a new one at this point. Part of me is considering waiting until post TDL, and the other part is saying just wait until the end of the MLB season and start there. Up to you, but that's my 2 cents.

I’d like to see the game improve the way the cpu handles being in a pennant race in the future, they don’t seem to have any situational awareness. The Braves have the #2 wildcard spot locked up with nothing to play for and they’re scheduled to have Max Fried pitch a meaningless game instead of lining him up to pitch the first game of the wildcard series. Fortunately I have 30 team control and can fix this

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

I'm in year 2 of my legends based Cubs franchise. I went 97-65 in year 1 but got knocked out by the Cardinals in the playoffs. Year 1 Sandberg was my standout. Finished with a .301/.373/.542 slash with 120 runs, 39 HRs, 110 Rbis and 36 steals. Also brought home a gold glove. Dawson finished with a .235 ave with 23 HRs and 95 rbis. Sosa was at .247 with 38 Hrs and 115 Rbis. On the pitching side Kerry Wood won the Cy Young with a 21-7 record, 2.55 era and had 297 K's. Maddux was 17-9 with a 3.89 era.

Currently in year 2, I'm sitting in first place with a 51-37 record and a 1.5 game lead over the Cardinals and Pirates. Sandberg has been kinda struggling in year 2. Slash is .236/.355/.404 with 56 runs, 11 HRs, 46 Rbi's and 32 steals. Dawson is having a nice year sitting at .285 with 22 Hrs and 66 Rbis. Sosa missed 35 games with a forearm fracture. He is currently at .227 with 10 Hrs and 30 Rbis. Pitching is carrying the day as Wood is currently at 11-1 with a 2.82 era and Maddux is 11-2 with a 2.25 era.

I suspect Sandberg is gonna heat up and get that ave in the .280+ range and be knocking on 30 homeruns. It just been a weird year...was sitting at .175 going into May and just hasnt had that crazy 2 week stretch yet. He's rated too high to be performing where he is right now. I have rated him more in line with his 1989-1992 prime.

Chicago White Sox Franchise: 2023 ALCS Game Five vs Los Angeles Angels

                Series: White Sox 3-1

With a chance at the World Series, the White Sox are throwing out ace Dylan Cease; who has been far from an ace so far in the postseason with a 7.15 ERA. The Angels, with the season on the line, are throwing out three year lefty Reid Detmers in his first start of the postseason. Detmers was fantastic in 2023, posting an ERA of 3.52 over 181.1 innings.

Both pitchers started the game on fire, with Cease controlling the strike zone and working around a few hits, while Detmers utilized a lethal curveball to keep White Sox potent offense completely off rhythm. Both worked through some struggles in the third inning, but we got to the bottom of the fifth before any major action took place.

Chicago stepped to the plate in the bottom of the fifth with a belief that a few runs may be enough with the way that Cease was dealing on the mound. After Yoan Moncada grounded out to start the inning, Tim Anderson would reach first on a blistered single. Andrew Benintendi would follow him with a single on the next pitch, putting Eloy Jimenez to the plate in a major moment. Jimenez would do what he has done so much this year and this postseason, making Detmers pay on a fastball left up in the zone and putting the White Sox up 3-0, just 12 outs away from the World Series.

Cease would take the mound full of confidence, but suddenly began missing his spots by walking Taylor Ward on four pitches to start the inning. Mike Trout would then appear to ground out, but instead reached as Moncada committed an error at second. Now with two on, Cease thinking he was about to get two outs on his last pitch,, lost control again and walked Hunter Renfroe. Now the bases were loaded with nobody out. Jared Walsh would step up to the plate and get exactly what Cease was looking for: a 6-4-3 double play. While a run scored, Cease was now one out away from getting through six with a 3-1 lead.

Then Brandon Drury made his mark, taking a dead-down-the-middle changeup 412 feet to tie the game at 3-3. Cease would finish off the inning and end his day with six innings pitched, allowing only one earned out of three runs total, four hits, walking three and striking out nine, an overall great performance.

Now in a bullpen game, the White Sox still had plenty of reasons to feel optimistic that they could come out on top with how the bullpen had been pitching in October.

The White Sox would appear to get things rolling again in the bottom of the seventh, as Jimenez and Luis Robert would each reach with singles, putting up Oscar Colas with a chance at glory with two outs. Instead, Carlos Esteves would strike Colas out with a slider, leaving the score at 3-3.

The White Sox would enter Reynaldo Lopez to the mound in the eighth, and the hard throwing righty would quickly get a line out from Ward. Up would step Trout again, and just like had done several times this series, he made Lopez pay with a missed spot, launching a fastball into the night. Angels up 4-3. Lopez would get through the rest of the inning unscathed.

Now trailing, the White Sox managed to get two base runners on as Yasmani Grandal and Gavin Sheets were hit by back to back pitches and only one out. Nothing would come from it, however as as Jimmy Herget would get Moncada to fly out to center, and then AL batting champ Anderson would strikeout on a low changeup.

Then, things would completely fall off the rails in the ninth for Chicago. With Kendall Graveman on the mound, Jake Burger would commit an error to put Brandon Drury on. Anthony Rendon would get a single, Urshela would get a single to knock in Drury. Burger would mishandle the next ball hit to him, but still get Max Stassi out at first. David Fletcher would hit another single, now 6-3. Garrett Crochet would step on the mound and immediately give up a double to Ward, scoring Urshela, 7-3. Trout would walk, and Renfroe would put the game on ice with a grand slam, with a final score of 11-3.

While a terrible defeat, the White Sox are still in control here by being up 3-2. The bad news is that the series is now heading back to Los Angeles for game six. The offense struggled with runners on, leaving 10 total, but it was the bullpen that imploded, as well as the defense of Burger at third. Momentum has swung back the other way seemingly in the series.

Angels win 11-3, White Sox still up 3-2 in the series.

                  CLEVELAND GUARDIANS 2024 UPDATE:

HERE WE GO!!!! Year 2 and the Guardians are in the playoffs. I really think I have a legit shot to win it all if I can manage the pitching staff well enough. My team's hitting has been VERY good for the last 2 months of the season.

I also attached the photo of JRAM's MVP season. In the years and years of playing this game I don't recall ever having one of my players get the MVP of the league. Pretty cool.

It took all 162 games, but the Mets are the 2023 NL East champions. My offense had been slumping for about a week but the day after managing just one hit in eleven innings the offense exploded against Zach Wheeler for a 10-1 victory to wrap up the east and a first round bye. Francisco Lindor led the charge with 2 HR, a double, and 7 RBIs. I'm facing the Giants in the divisional round, in game 1 I faced a pitcher with an ERA of infinity for the first time which made me laugh seeing it in his stat line

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

Happened to make it to All-Star week in my A's franchise today. Finished the 1st Half 30-62, just 28.5 games out of first. Tony Kemp was my lone All-Star with his .636 ops and 0.8 WAR. Willson Contreras, who has a .999 ops (1st in the NL) and 17 HR in the first half was the biggest snub.

Mike Trout won the HR Derby (beating Brandon Lowe in the finals), and Shohei won All-Star Game MVP by going 2 for 2 with 2 solo HR (my Xbox crashed right after I finished the game, but I'm just going with my original result instead of replaying the game).

Speaking of Shohei, he's leading the league with 29 HR and 78 RBI (and has a 1.035 OPS) at the break. He's leading the AL MVP race over Trout (1.009 ops and 23 HR) and Stanton (.909 and 22 HR). In the NL, it's Betts (.887 with NL-leading 23 HR and 70 RBI), Goldschmidt (.957, 22), and J.D. Martinez (.916 and 19 HR). Jon Gray (2.57 era) and Max Scherzer (1.72) are the Cy Young favorites. Alex Lange for the Tigers had an incredible first half, going 21/22 in Saves only allowing 1 earned run in 28 outings.

In the standings, the Rays, Twins, and Rangers lead their divisions with the Yankees, Angels, and Mariners currently occupying the Wild Cards. In the NL, the Braves (despite Acuña, Olson, Harris, and Arcia all missing significant time), Cubs, and Dodgers are all in 1st place, with the Mets, Cards, and Padres sitting as the Wild Cards. The only teams that look totally out of the race at this point are my A's, Red Sox, Reds, and Nationals. And maybe the Guardians and Royals. Everyone else is within 7 games of a playoff spot.

Got 2 weeks to decide how much I want to sell, though I don't think I have a lot in terms of good, tradable assets. Aledmys Diaz seems like a good trade pieces.

Dodgers had a 3-1 lead into the 8th when Gabriel Moreno hit a two run blast to tie the game. Jake McCarthy would drive in a run in the 10th to give the Dbacks a 4-3 win.

In an impressive performance, Blake Snell of the San Diego Padres pitched a no-hitter against the Atlanta Braves, leading his team to a dominant victory. Snell threw a complete game and struck out an impressive 15 batters, showcasing his exceptional pitching skills. The Padres' offense was also on fire during the game, with several players making significant contributions. Juan Soto went 2-4 and hit his first home run of the year, while Fernando Tatis Jr. had a stellar performance, going 3-5 with 2 RBI. Rougned Odor also had a notable game, going 2-4 and hitting a 2-run home run. Additionally, Trent Grisham went 2-3 and drove in 2 runs. The Padres' strong performance continued throughout the series, as they won the first two games and disrupted the Braves' opening home stand. In the opening game, the Padres staged a comeback, scoring 2 runs in the 7th and 8th innings, thanks to home runs from Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr., ultimately securing a 5-4 victory. In the second game of the series, the Padres dominated with an 8-0 win.

Pirates take series and season series by winning two of three Vs. the Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have been the Pirates biggest competitor for the top spot of the NL Central all season. However, with just 22 games remaining in the season, the Pirates are in good position to reach the post season for the first time since 2015.

The most recent series saw Pittsburgh win two games out of three which gave them the 7-6 season series victory. The wins also came despite Pittsburgh being out hit 31-15 in the series.

Milwaukee took game one 4-2 and then the Pirates were able to sneak in wins in games two and three 3-2 and 2-1.

The Brewers pitching staff had success against the Pirate hitters thoughout the series but despite being hit around a bit, the Pirates staff was also able to limit Milwaukee's runs scored.

Game three saw some late inning heroics from a unlikely source. Miguel Andujar hit a 8th inning homerun (only his second on the year since being recalled from triple A. Kevin Plawecki who has been pretty clutch then hit a rbi sac fly in the bottom of the 9th to walk it off.

Roansy Contreras will be up next and will be looking to eclipse the 200 K milestone for the season as the Pirates travel to Atlanta to take on the Braves (69-70/4th NL East). Game one is set to be a matchup with Contreras and the current Cy Young favorite, Spencer Strider (13-4, 2.99 ERA 214 SO). Contreras is currently second in strikeouts behind Strider with his 195.
