Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
2023 National League Championship Series Game 7
Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves
Game Seven Starters: Lucas Giolito vs Aaron Nola
Both teams scored in the second: Washington got a run on a Brandon Nimmo single while Atlanta scored two runs; one on a single from William Contreras and the other on a double from Ozzie Albies. Brandon Nimmo drove in two with a double in the third, and Atlanta tied the game with a double from Jose Iglesias in the fifth. Stephen Strasburg was called in after Lucas Giolito went 4.1 innings, but the Braves were able to take the lead when Ronald Acuna hit a sac fly to right, scoring Iglesias and Matt Olson singled to drive in Austin Riley. Washington responded again, Keibert Ruiz and Brandon Nimmo singled with two outs and Kike Hernandez was able to drive in Ruiz with a third consecutive hit, ending the day for Aaron Nola, who turned the ball over to Jameson Taillon. Taillon would go 1.1 innings, giving up one hit before Raisel Iglesias came on in the eighth, striking out one. The Nationals bullpen was constantly sending out different arms: Strasburg went 0.2 innings, Victor Arano went an innings, Carl Edwards Jr. went 1.2, and Sean Doolittle came on for a third of an inning, getting an out on just one pitch. The Braves would turn to AJ Minter leading 5-4 in the ninth, and he would give up a game tying solo home run to Kike Hernandez to start the inning. Brady House (who entered the game batting .308 in the postseason, but was 0-4 in this game) struck out before Luis Garcia worked a walk. CJ Abrams would be called in to pinch run, and Yadiel Hernandez was pulled back to allow Victor Robles to hit. It all fell apart, as Abrams was picked off and Robles grounded out to third. Josiah Gray would be called on to pitch the ninth in a tied game…and on his first pitch, a fastball in, Dansby Swanson ended the Nationals’ fairybook story, depositing the ball into the bullpen and sending the Braves on to the World Series.
The Braves will now take on the Cleveland Guardians, who defeated the Astros 4-2 in the ALCS. Cleveland will have home field advantage.

As someone who enjoys playing video games, not on a gamer level, but I play a lot...I don't think I've ever had as much fun and as much disappointment as that series, especially the last three games. That home run from Swanson, I actually laid back in my computer chair, looking at the ceiling saying "oh my god...dude seriously? Really? Unbelievable". That was the most awesome ending to a game, as someone who loves the drama and storylines of the game. Poor Josiah Gray, who had a great season, but wow...just awesome.
To add insult to injury, the Braves would go on to win the World Series, causing further heartbreak with memories of 1995 as they defeated the Cleveland Guardians 4-1.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
Chicago White Sox Franchise: 2023 ALCS Game Two @ Los Angeles Angels
This matchup featured Lucas Giolito on the mound for the White Sox against Patrick Sandoval for the Angels. Both pitchers had major breakouts for their teams this season, with Giolito even getting a three year extension in August.
The game got off to a very rude start for Sandoval, as his first pitch of the game got planted in the left field seats by AL batting champ Tim Anderson, who has struggled mightily in the postseason. That one swing would foretell the story of the game, as the White Sox would cruise in a big way.
The offense was outstanding, consistently putting pressure on Sandoval and then the relievers that Los Angeles threw out there. Fifteen hits and nine runs later, the White Sox bullied their way to tying the series. Anderson’s homer was followed up by a double, two steals, and scoring four runs in total for the leadoff hitter. Andrew Benintendi, Jake Burger, and Gavin Sheets would all join Anderson in the home run column.
As good as the offense was, Giolito was perhaps even better. After allowing a Taylor Ward single and a Mike Trout double in the first inning with only one out, Giolito would strike out Shohei Ohtani with a disgusting curveball and then would get Hunter Renfroe to ground out. He would not get into trouble the rest of the game, working seven innings, striking out seven, walking zero, and allowing no runs on five hits. A tremendous performance that included striking out Ohtani three times. Yency Almonte, the lone deadline piece, came in and closed out the last two innings. After crushing us for three homers and a double combined in game one, Trout and Ohtani combined for just one hit
The White Sox tie the series 1-1 with their 9-0 win in game two, and now head home to attempt to take over the series in Chicago.
Good luck!

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
When I put a player up for a trade and have the CPU suggest trades from other teams.. Is there a way to easily cycle through the suggested player's stats? I'm starting to want to bring prospects into my franchise but man.. I can't seem to find an easy way to look these players up without exiting out of the trade, finding them in the other team's rosters, and then cycling back into the trade.. super cumbersome if this is the only wayComment

September 8-10: FLAGSTAFF (79-65) @ COLORADO SPRINGS (73-71)
Stadium: Security Service Field (Capacity: 13,587)
September 8: Snow Sox 1, Hops 0
September 9: Snow Sox 4, Hops 0
September 10: Hops 4, Snow Sox 2
Colorado Springs, CO (AP) - The Hops rallied to capture the finale and avoid a three game sweep, but saw their lead in the ML West drop to just two games over Salt Lake.
The Snow Sox took the opener 1-0 in a classic pitcher’s duel. Mike Stoneridge outdueled Ryan Pressley to help keep the Snow Sox faint playoff hopes alive.
Stoneridge (12-11) tossed the complete game, scattering nine hits and striking out four. His counterpart, Ryan Pressley (14-8) was even better, allowing the one run on five hits while striking out seven in tossing the complete game in the loss.
The lone run of the ballgame was scored in the bottom of the fifth on a Robby Blair two-out, solo home run to left, his 12th on the season.
Oscar Aleman and Donnie Roland each went 2 for 4 for Flagstaff, which left eight men on base in the loss.
The Hops struggles continued on Saturday evening as Brian Chen tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout as Colorado Springs won 4-0. The Snow Sox broke a scoreless tie with three seventh inning solo home runs to move closer to a Wild Card spot in the crowded ML picture.
Juro Yamaguchi was tossing a gem for Flagstaff, allowing just two hits and striking out eight through six innings. But in the seventh, he gave up back-to-back home runs to Jamie Case (20) and Donnell Marcus (18) to open the frame and spell an end to his night. Oliver Benedict came on and served up a solo home run to Mike Rock (15) as the Snow Sox built a 3-0 lead.
The Snow Sox would add another run in the eight on a Donnie Samuels two-out RBI single.
Brian Chin (10-9) was masterful for the Snow Sox, mixing in a devastating curveball with his 99 MPH fastball that kept the Hops off balance all night, leading to their second straight shutout loss. Chin struck out five and did not issue a walk.
In Sunday’s finale, the Hops pulled out a big 4-2 win to avoid the three game sweep and kept their hold on first place in the ML West.
The Snow Sox would grab a 1-0 lead in the first after Donnie Samuels lead off the game with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly.
The Hops responded in the top of the second as slumping Roberto Geronimo blasted a two-run home run to center to put the Hops up 2-1.
Alex Farmer (10-10) was pitching well, but had to leave the game in the sixth with shoulder tightness. He went five plus innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out three.
A Donnie Roland RBI single in the seventh put the Hops up 3-1. Art Mason then hit a solo home run in the eighth to stretch the lead to 4-1.
A Miguel Gonzalez solo home run in the bottom of the eighth cut the Hops lead to 4-2. But Vic Miller came on in the ninth and sent the Snow Sox down in order to pick up the save.
The Hops (79-65) will now head to Salt Lake (77-67) for a huge three game series before ending the road trip at St George.
Around the League: Red-hot Glendale scored three in the top of the ninth, only to give up three in the bottom half to Goodyear, then won it in the 14th inning on an Adrian Beltran solo home run in a 6-5 victory over the Jack Rabbits.
Las Vegas and Henderson both won on Friday night, and both closed ground on suddenly slumping Mesa, which lost at Chandler. Vegas took out Surprise 13-4 with Henderson doubling up Salt River 8-4. Mesa dropped a 5-2 decision to Chandler.
Elvis Valasquez hit a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth as Rio Rancho defeated Albuquerque 11-9 for their seventh straight win. The Owlz are now just 1 1/2 games back of Salt Lake for the second ML Wild Card spot. The Chukars needed extra innings to defeat Prescott 4-2, on a Robby Payne two-run home run in the tenth.
Mesa avoided a sweep at Chandler as they scored five in the top of the ninth on Sunday afternoon, to win 7-2. The Solar Sox huge Wild Card lead has been whittled down to three games in the Desert League.
Santa Fe completed a huge three game sweep of El Paso to pull to with a 1/2 game of the Blue Rocks in the ML Central. A 10-4 win on Sunday afternoon was lead by Sergio Sierra, who went 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs.
Sergio Pinto’s three-run double in the first inning keyed Salt Lake to a 6-5 victory over Prescott on Sunday afternoon. The Chukars took two of three from the Hit Shots as they edge closer to the Hops for first place in the ML West.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
As we begin the 2023/2024 offseason, let’s take a look at some of the big names who retired at the end of the year:
Miguel Cabrera
Zack Greinke
Justin Verlander
Mark Melancon
Mitch Moreland
Charlie Morton
David Price
Albert Pujols
Oliver Perez
Andrelton Simmons
Justin Turner
Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera were both inducted into the Hall of Fame upon retiring
Free Agency
The Los Angeles Dodgers make the first big splash, or huge splash, by signing Shohei Ohtani to a 7 year contract worth $240.1M. In late December they would also sign Jack Flaherty (6 years/116.4M)
Other major signings include the Mets signing Josh Hader (3 year/33.6M) and later Harrison Bader (3 years/25.8M), the Twins signing Jorge Alfaro (3 year/26.1M), the Yankees signing Ian Happ (5 year/64M), the Marlins signing Amed Rosario (4 year/35.6M) and the Rangers signing Hunter Renfroe (3 year/20.7M). The Guardians signed SP Jordan Montgomery (4 years/56.8M), the White Sox signed Rafael Devers (4 years/38.4M)
In January, Julio Urias finally settled on his new home, choosing to sign with the Astros (7 years/238.7M)
The Nationals targetted Hunter Renfroe, but just could not pull it off. They did sign Mitch Haniger (2 year/ 7.0M) and Anthony Rizzo (1 year/4.1M) to add some pop to the lineup. They also signed Lucas Giolito to a 4 year/ 47.2M contract, and Andrew Vaughn to a 3 year/8.4M deal. The Nationals acquired CP Zach Warren in the Rule 5 Draft. Warren is a 27 year old leftie with B potential and an overall of 64, but has good stuff and racked up plenty of strikeouts in the minors (81 K/9 rating).
Trades
The Rockies got busy during the Winter Meetings, trading away 1B Grant Lavigne and Kris Bryant to the Angels in return for CF Monte Harrison. They then made a big splash by trading CF Benny Montgomery to the Braves for Dansby Swanson and CF Justin Dean.
The Reds traded Starling Marte to the Marlins for SP Bruce Zimmermann and RP Sherman Silva
Major trades went down in January:
The Tigers traded SP Wilmer Flores (I had to double take) to the Cardinals for Brendan Donovan)
The Orioles traded 2B Nick Dunn, CP Todd Martinez and LF John Cloven to the Cubs for RP Taylor Rogers
The Twins traded RP Jhoan Duran to Milwaukee for SS Cadyn Greiner and RF Joey Wiemer
…and the one that set the internet ablaze: The Yankees traded Giancarlo Stanton to the Red Sox for RP Kodi Whitley.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
So, I wanted to play some Spring Training games, but I'm much too excited to start the 2024 season...so I simmed it. Sorry....
Some major roster changes from last year to start this campaign: most notably CJ Abrams and Joey Meneses will be starting the year at AAA. CJ Abrams struggled all season last year, and while Meneses had a nice year, his power was way down and his plate discipline was lacking at times. Yadiel Hernandez, who consistently batted in the third spot in the lineup last season, will also be at AAA, as he cannot play the field and the DH spot will mostly be filled by Anthony Rizzo. All three of these men have a good chance at being called up at some point during the year.
Other names made the MLB squad following Spring Training: Cade Cavalli will be the number five starter, with Zach Davies starting as a bullpen arm. Hunter Harvey and Rule 5 Draft pick Zach Warren have taken the place of Kyle Finnegan and Victor Arano in the bullpen.
Other names to keep an eye on: James Wood and Felipe Escalona. Wood played during the 2022 season, and did pretty well, but the Nationals want to him to spend more time honing his skills at AAA. The Nationals have some depth at the outfield positions, and don't want to call up Wood just to have him sit on the bench. As for Escalona, he was kept at low-A last season, and will be starting the year at AA, but he seems to be nearly MLB ready, even at the age of 21. He is another talent that the organization does not want to rush, but it really is just a matter of time before he sees his first major league game.Last edited by dragster646; 07-04-2023, 09:18 PM.Cleveland Guardians - MLB The Show 25

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
I've done a poor job updating my franchise. I'm going to try to get back to my old ways and update after each series, but for now here's a summary of what has happened as I've completed May of 2025.
Redbird Report - Cardinals finish May still under .500 and still underwhelming
The Cardinals have finished the month of May with a dismal 13-14 record, after finishing March/April with a 15-17 record, to now carry an overall record of 28-31 into the month of June. The only silver lining to that poor record is that the NL Central is easily the worst division in baseball as the Cardinals are just 1.5 games behind the leading Cubs who sit at 29-29.
The bullpen continues to be the biggest issue as the Cardinals have the 2nd most blown saves with 12 in the majors, behind only the Yankees who have 13. Ryan Helsley, A.J Minter, and Johan Oviedo have been solid, and Alex Reyes has been good. Other than that, its a group of arms that have little to no trust from Oli Marmol, and that includes Jordan Hicks who the Cardinals signed to a richer contract than they anticipated after losing Giovanny Gallegos to the Braves in free agency last winter.
Starting pitching has been good at best, but even the signings of Max Fried and Tyler Glasnow appear to have been one contract, or two, too many. The Cardinals significantly increased their payroll signing both and aren't getting back in return what they had hoped, as both have ERAs north of 4.50 and WHIPs above 1.30. A lot of grumblings within the clubhouse and surrounding the organization, fans included, that maybe the chemistry of this team is completely off kilter, and that maybe the front office should take a hail mary and do what is necessary to find that team chemistry and hopefully get this team back to where they were expected to be this time of year at the beginning of the season, coming off a World Series appearance.
The lineup has been good, although Tyler O'Neill continues to strikeout at an extremely high rate. Brendan Donovan suffered a leg injury in April but should return in the next week or two to help bolster the lineup. With that coming about, the Cardinals are openly shopping Edmundo Sosa for any type of pitching help. Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado are having MVP type seasons thus far, and Nolan Gorman has been a big boost in the lineup providing left handed pop.
The Cardinals have about 30 days to really decide what type of season they are going to have, and what they want to do for the trade deadline. Other teams are making moves now to get setup, although none of the trades are significant. The Cardinals are only 1.5 games out in the division, so its not like they are completely out of the playoff hunt yet, but unless they do something to turn this around and soon, winning the division will be their only path to the playoffs.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion
I decided to run with the White Sox this year and they have been a blast! They simmed really well for me offensively, pitching was so so as Cease struggled, oddly with almost the exact WRa he has in real life. I enjoyed playing with them as well, currently in the ALCS, so much better than real life for them lolComment

Gotta get those Cards turned around Cowboy! What’s your sim/play style to be in 2025? I’m trying to speed up my seasons but I play different games with more limited time than I would like. I’m hoping to get three or four seasons in this yearComment
