Fair point. But it is a video game, and I feel like if we really want to outsmart a video game, we probably can.

Side note, you should trade for the guy if you really want him. Just offer more. I think that's what happened with Trea Turner if I'm not mistaken.

Then I sent him back to AAA and THEN I onloaded his contract on the White Sox, who at the time were in fourth place in the AL Central but ended up with a wild card spot. I should actually see how Corbin did for them...

Here's hoping for another successful Nationals rebuild!

Appreciate that! Yea you're franchise has looked like such fun and rewarding I decided to give it a go. I'm at the all star break with like 25,26 wins. Playing 1 game from every series. Knocked out like 2 months yesterday. So invested in my team, have made a couple trades. But really stressing for realism so MLB Trade Value site and thinking Ling and hard about what's happening in my franchise world before I make moves. 2 moves so far grabbing some prospects and probably find a power bat veteran in free agency. I added all the injuries from opening day before I started so was contemplating finding one of the season ending guys that's headed to FA for a prove it deal maybe....idk. I also ended Strasburgs season and dropped his ratings to near 50. Really hoping to have him retire in my franchise as I just dont relaistically see him playing another game. I am losing games in the most brutal ways but it's keeping things fun!
Example: finished a game in Philly up 5-4 going to bottom of the 9th with Finnegan closing and an error by keibert Ruiz and CJ Abrams back to back allowed the tying run to score and then I walked in the game winner.....

State of The Nationals (May 6, 2023)
Nats Snap 5 Game Losing Streak

After losing the series opener Friday to extend the streak to 5 (10-24), Washington got a win with Patrick Corbin on the hill. Corbin went 6 innings of 5 hit ball, and 2 runs was good enough to seal the victory as the Nationals scored 2 in the 7th, and 2 in the 8th off a Keibert Ruiz homerun (7). They'll look to get only their 2nd series win of the year tomorrow, to finish the trip to Arizona before taking on San Francisco in the Bay.

Kike Hernandez strikes again! After Brady House doubled on the seventh pitch of the at bat, Hernandez took Fried deep to left, and the Nationals once again strike early. Dansby Swanson answered in the bottom of the first with a solo home run, and then both pitchers settled down for the next three innings. The Nationals would get three runs in the fifth, all after there were two outs and following a rare throwing error by Jose Iglesias that allowed Kike Hernandez to reach first. Andrew Vaughn singled to score Brady House, and Gleyber Torres doubled to score Hernandez and Vaughn. That would be the end of the line for Max Fried, as the Braves would go to the bullpen for Jameson Taillon. Taillon would give up two runs in the seventh, after allowing a walk to Brady House and a double to Kike Hernandez, he then intentionally walked Andrew Vaughn to load the bases with nobody out. Gleyber Torres came through with a two run double, forcing Atlanta to turn to Kirby Yates, who would get out of the inning without further damage. Stephen Strasburg went six innings, giving up a run on four hits, walking two and striking out four. Sean Doolittle, Kyle Finnegan, and Victor Arano pitched three shutout innings and the Nationals take a very important Game One victory
You've inspired me. When I'm done with the Guardians franchise, I'm going to a complete Rockies rebuild. Completely tear it down and rebuild it.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

In my Braves franchise, we are 9-10 on the season. Bullpen has been giving up the lead or not holding on to them. CP Iglesias has an ERA over 4.50 and BSV (2). SU Jimenez ERA is at 7.94, FA at the end of the season. So, I took a look at the Dodgers roster I noticed a 24-year-old with the Velo of 99 is in AAA. He was Brusdar Graterol just a RP. So, I offered SP Ynoa, RP Jimenez and CF Sierra and they accepted it.

I will insert Graterol into the SU role, but if Iglesias blow more saves Graterol will get the shot as Closer.

I'm glad I can inspire people, I love seeing teams rebuild (as long as it's not a Cleveland team in real life, because I've seen too many of those...seriously Browns...just give up.) Anyway, if/when I ever finish this Nationals franchise I want to do another with the A's or Pirates. Although I would also like to take a winning team to the next step for a change of pace as well.

2023 National League Championship Series Game 2

                Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves

Game Two Starters: MacKenzie Gore vs Aaron Nola

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Nationals again score in the first; Brady House singled, Luis Garcia doubled, and Gleyber Torres hit a line drive to center that scored House. Garcia also attempted to score but Michael Harris made a perfect throw to the plate and Garcia was out by quite a bit. The Braves rallied in the fourth. Ronald Acuna led off with a walk, Austin Riley doubled and William Contreras drove in Acuna with a ground ball to short. Austin Riley advanced to third on a curveball in the dirt and then scored on a sac fly from Ozzie Albies to give Atlanta the lead. The Nationals attempted to play the matchup game, going to their bullpen early and often. MacKenzie Gore was pulled are 4.1 innings and Cade Cavalli went two scoreless innings before Sean Doolittle came on. Doolittle got the final out of the seventh before giving up a lead off hit to Jose Iglesias in the eighth. Dave Martinez would turn to Kyle Finnegan, who retired Dansby Swanson on one pitch before Ronald Acuna Jr launched a moonshot to the second deck, putting the Braves up 4-1. Not to be outdone, Austin Riley followed up with a bomb to left as well. Kenley Jansen would go 1.1 innings and Kirby Yates would pitch the last two outs to hand Washington its first postseason loss and even the series at one game a piece.

2023 National League Championship Series Game 3

                  Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves

Game Three Starters: Spencer Strider vs Josiah Gray

Spencer Strider’s domination of Washington continued for the first four innings, entering the fifth inning without allowing a hit. Brandon Nimmo led off the fifth with a base hit before Andrew Vaughn hit a two run home run. Atlanta countered in the sixth; a lead off single from Robert Neustrom was followed by a line drive to right by Jose Iglesias that Kike Hernandez missed, turning a double into a triple and scoring Neustrom. Josiah Gray responded well, striking out Dansby Swanson and getting Acuna to fly out before he was taken out of the game. Carl Edwards came in and gave up a base hit on an 0-2 count to Austin Riley, tying the game at 2. Edwards would get out of the inning without any further damage. The Braves took the lead off of Colin Poche in the eighth following a double from Dansby Swanson and a single from Ronald Acuna. That would turn out to be the winning run, as Jameson Taillon, Raisel Iglesias, and AJ Minter continued the pitching dominance started by Strider and; not even allowing a runner to reach base in four innings of relief. Atlanta will take the 2-1 series lead with two games remaining in Washington before the series heads back to Atlanta (if necessary)

                      Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves

Game Four Starters: Kyle Wright vs Zach Davies

The Braves continued their hot hitting by taking a 3-0 lead in the second off of a William Contreras home run. Ronald Acuna added another run with a solo shot in the third, but the Nats would fight back, manufacturing two runs in the bottom of the third (groundout by Yadiel Hernandez and sac fly from Gleyber Torres) with the help of a throwing error by Jose Iglesias that allowed Brady House to go from first to third and Luis Garcia not only to reach base but advance to second. Lucas Giolito would come in to start the fourth as Washington continued its all out effort to keep the game close. The Nats had a great chance in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases with two out, but Andrew Vaughn could not come through, striking out and ending the threat. Washington had runners on in the sixth and seventh again but overly aggressive baserunning would be their demise in both innings. Lucas Giolito did his part, going four innings, giving up just three hits and a walk while striking out five. Cade Cavalli would come in to pitch the eighth, and would give up a run on a double from Austin Riley that got underneath a tumbling Lane Thomas, allowing Acuna to score from first. Michael Harris followed with a base hit that scored Austin Riley, and one could almost feel the hopes die for Nats fans everywhere, not just for the game but for the series as well. Not all would go well for the Braves, as Michael Harris would steal second but suffered what originally appeared to be a broken arm on his slide into second*. Both teams would add another run, but Atlanta showed why they are thought by many to be the best all around team in baseball on both sides of the ball, and Washington’s offensive problems and lack of bullpen depth were magnified for all to see.

Atlanta has taken a crucial 3-1 lead in the series

*Michael Harris has a fractured forearm and is out for the remainder of the postseason

                        Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves

Game Five Starters: Mike Soroka vs Stephen Strasburg

Washington scored in the third after Brady House reached on a throwing error by Austin Riley, and Yadiel Hernandez doubled to drive him in. Washington would score their second run in the sixth after consecutive two out base hits from Brandon Nimmo, Keibert Ruiz, and Lane Thomas. Stephen Strasburg went seven shutout innings, giving up a walk and five hits and striking out four, and Aaron Bummer went a scoreless eighth, striking out two. Trevor Rosenthal came on in the ninth and gave up a double to Dansby Swanson, hit Acuna, and walked Austin Riley before giving up a three run double to rookie Justin Dean, filling in for the injured Michael Harris. The Braves would send out AJ Minter with a 3-2 lead in the ninth, only for Kike Hernandez to play the hero once more, hitting a solo home run on the very first pitch to tie the game. The Nationals could not rally further, sending the game into extras. Victor Arano worked around a leadoff double to get out of the tenth unscathed. AJ Minter came back out for the bottom of the tenth, giving up base hits to Andrew Vaughn and Brandon Nimmo before being pulled for Kirby Yates. He gave Keibert Ruiz a perfect fastball to hit right out of the gates and Ruiz laced a base hit to right, allowing Vaughn to score from second and keeping the Nationals Cinderella season going for at least one more game!

Finished all 162 and playoffs with the Angels. Then started one with the Marlins and was 19-15 and of course Cycloniac drops his roster so now have to start over 😂. Think I’m gonna go with the Blue Jays as their young core is something else. It was between them, Orioles and Pirates.

Game Six Starters: MacKenzie Gore vs Max Fried

Atlanta jumped to the lead in the first, a lead off base hit by Jose Iglesias and ground rule double by Dansby Swanson set up an easy RBI groundout from Ronald Acuna Jr. Washington came back in the second with a base hit from Lane Thomas followed by a home run from Anderson Tejeda, getting his first start of the series. Kike Hernandez hit a solo home run, his third of the series, in the third inning. Ozzie Albies hit his first home run or the postseason in the fourth, making it a one run game for a short while. Washington again responded, this time with two in the fifth. Wilmer Perez led off with a single, and Victor Robles followed with a double to score Perez. That was the end for Max Fried, and the Braves turned to Zach Eflin, who got Kike Hernandez and Brady House to record outs before giving up an RBI single to Andrew Vaughn, making it a 5-2 game. Once again Atlanta would score a run in the bottom half, as Dansby Swanson would get his second hit of the game but then end the inning trying to steal second. The seesaw battle continued, with Washington scoring two more in the sixth. Lane Thomas led off with a single, Anderson Tejeda doubled, Brandon Nimmo hit a sac fly and Wilmer Perez grounded out, which still allowed Tejeda to score from third. The Nationals turned it over to Kyle Finnegan for the sixth, and he retired Atlanta 1-2-3. Colin Poche came in for the seventh and gave up a run following doubles from Matt Olson and Jake Marisnick. Carl Edwards pitched a scoreless eighth before Aaron Bummer came on for the save in the ninth. He gave up a lead off home run to Albies, but that was all he allowed and Washington holds off the Braves to force a Game 7!!!

This matchup featured Lucas Giolito on the mound for the White Sox against Patrick Sandoval for the Angels. Both pitchers had major breakouts for their teams this season, with Giolito even getting a three year extension in August.

The game got off to a very rude start for Sandoval, as his first pitch of the game got planted in the left field seats by AL batting champ Tim Anderson, who has struggled mightily in the postseason. That one swing would foretell the story of the game, as the White Sox would cruise in a big way.

The offense was outstanding, consistently putting pressure on Sandoval and then the relievers that Los Angeles threw out there. Fifteen hits and nine runs later, the White Sox bullied their way to tying the series. Anderson’s homer was followed up by a double, two steals, and scoring four runs in total for the leadoff hitter. Andrew Benintendi, Jake Burger, and Gavin Sheets would all join Anderson in the home run column.

As good as the offense was, Giolito was perhaps even better. After allowing a Taylor Ward single and a Mike Trout double in the first inning with only one out, Giolito would strike out Shohei Ohtani with a disgusting curveball and then would get Hunter Renfroe to ground out. He would not get into trouble the rest of the game, working seven innings, striking out seven, walking zero, and allowing no runs on five hits. A tremendous performance that included striking out Ohtani three times. Yency Almonte, the lone deadline piece, came in and closed out the last two innings. After crushing us for three homers and a double combined in game one, Trout and Ohtani combined for just one hit

The White Sox tie the series 1-1 with their 9-0 win in game two, and now head home to attempt to take over the series in Chicago.
