"How can you not be romantic about baseball?" Famous quote always rings true.

Seriously the rebuilds coming to fruition can't be beat. Especially since you become sort of emotionally attached to the "fake" players after playing a ton of games with them.

There have been times playing this game where something would happen and I would stand up and pump my fist as if it was a real game, just because of working so hard to reach a goal that's hard to get achieve. And I'm not an overly emotional person LOL.

I love the "fake" players, or even some prospects I've never heard of. For example, I didn't realize Gerardo Carrillo was part of the Trea Turner trade until I google that trade last night. I kind of assumed he was a computer generated player, and here I am calling him up for a start in September LOL. The most exciting thing, other than making these playoffs, are the players I've drafted since starting the franchise. I've kept my number 1 pick from 2022 at single-A all season, and his rating has already gone up to 74...and he's still only 20 years old. I wanted to bring him up and start him for a game but I forced myself to wait. The little things like that make this game just so fun.

I'll echo your comments. I'm using the Cardinals and having Liberatore struggle in his first 5 starts and then pitch an absolute gem against a loaded Astros teams is just one of many great stories I've had since playing every single game in this franchise.

              September 1-3: COLORADO SPRINGS (69-69) @ FLAGSTAFF (76-62)
              Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 9,577)

              September 1: Snow Sox 8, Hops 6
              September 2: Snow Sox 5, Hops 3
              September 3: Snow Sox 11, Hops 1

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops season is spinning out of control as they were swept by the Colorado Springs Snow Sox to run their losing streak to seven games. Their once insurmountable lead in the ML West is down to just two games and it almost would seem like a miracle if this team can even hang on for a Wild Card birth with the way that they are playing.

In the opener, the Hops blew a four run lead with their ace on the mound and fell 8-6 to the Colorado Springs Snow Sox. The Snow Sox scored three in the seventh and four in the top of the ninth to rally and stun the sellout crowd at AutoZone Park.

Flagstaff built a 4-0 lead in the fifth and appeared to be cruising to a win in the opener. Emmitt Hampton homered in the second inning, his 31st on the season and his fourth straight game with a home run. Hampton would add a sacrifice fly in the fourth as the Hops built a 2-0 lead.

Forrest Owen hit his 17th home run on the season, a solo shot, to open the fifth and Robbie Westbrook added a solo shot to make it 4-0.

Juan Primo homered in the sixth for the Snow Sox to get them on the board. Then Shoe-Lace O’Tying ran into a brick wall in the seventh. Todd Austin walked and Robby Blair doubled. James Dudeck then walked to load the bases with no outs. Gonzalez singled home Austin and Blair to cut the lead to 4-3 and that was the end for O’Tying. Pedro Macias came on and gave up a bunt single to Donnie Samuels to load the bases again. Marcus then doubled but Miguel Gonzalez was thrown out at the plate after James Dudeck scored to tie the game at 4-4. Primo was intentionally walked and Macias got Mike Rock to ground out to end the inning.

Then in the top of the ninth, Donnie Samuels tripled to open the inning off of Aldo Osuna. Case, who had struck out three times, hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Samuels and give the Snow Sox the lead. Juan Primo then doubled and Mike Rock walked. Manager Matt Blake then turned to Oliver Benedict and the first pitch that he threw Todd Austin hit over the wall in left for a three-run home run to make it 8-4.

The Hops would get solo home runs from Roberto Geronimo and Robbie Westbrook, his second of the game and 34th of the season, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 8-6.

On Saturday evening, the Snow Sox rallied late again, to pull out a 5-3 victory and send the Hops to their fifth consecutive loss. Miguel Gonzalez two-run home run in the seventh was the difference as Colorado Springs suddenly finds themselves back in the Wild Card chase.

The Snow Sox would grab a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a Mike Rock three-run home run off of Ryan Pressley. It was his 14th on the year.

Flagstaff would get two back in the second on an Oscar Aleman two-run double. They had a great chance to add runs in the fourth after Art Mason lead off with a double and Donnie Roland was hit by a pitch, but Oscar Aleman lined out to short on a double steal attempt that lead to a 6-4-3 triple play.

They would tie it up in the fifth on a solo home run from Arturo Mardones, his 16th.

But the Snow Sox would answer in the seventh. Blair lead off with a single and reached second on a wild pitch. James Dudeck struck out, but Miguel Gonzalez hit a hanging slider over the wall in left. The two-run shot gave the Snow Sox a 5-3 lead and spelled the end for Ryan Pressley.

Pressley (14-8) made two mistakes on the night and they were costly. He tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing the five runs on seven hits, while striking out six and walking one. Samuel Espinoza and Russell Fluty were excellent in relief.

Mike Stoneridge (11-11) earned the win for the Snow Sox. He worked seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out seven. Jeff Cabrera picked up his 34th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

The finale was a disaster despite a great pitching performance from Juro Yamaguchi and the Snow Sox scored nine runs in the last two innings to pull away for an 11-1 victory and a sweep of the reeling Hops. Jamie Case hit two home runs and drove in five for the victorious Snow Sox who are now back to .500 after an awful start to the season.

Colorado Springs got off to a quick start with a Donnell Marcus solo homer in the first inning.

Emmitt Hampton’s solo home run in the second tied the ballgame at 1-1. It was his 32nd on the year and the fifth consecutive game with a home run for him.

Jamie Case would untie it in the fourth with a solo home run to left.

Juro Yamaguchi (9-10) would pitch seven innings, allowing just the two runs on four hits, while striking out six before being relieved. Pedro Macias came on a served up a huge two-run home run to Donnie Samuels that seemed to take the wind out of the sails of the Hops.

Jamie Case then hit a grand slam in the ninth as the Snow Sox scored seven more to pile it on in the 11-1 win.

The Hops (76-62) have now lost six straight and are (18-38) since July 1st. They will host St George (70-67) for a three game series to end the home stand beginning tomorrow evening and sit just two games ahead of Salt Lake and only 5 1/2 ahead of St George for the second Wild Card spot in the Mountain League.

Around the League: Steve Heupel’s solo home run broke a 6-6 tie and sent the Gilbert Barnstormers to a 7-6 victory over Henderson in the opener of a big weekend series. Heupel leads all of the IBL with 45 home runs. Chandler skunked Mesa 11-0 in the opener of another big series. Rookie Reynaldo Pulido went 4 for 5 with three doubles and drove in four runs to help the Chiefs to the series opening victory. Steven Escobar (15-5) tossed a complete game three-hit shutout, striking out six and walking three.

Salt Lake’s Thor Odinson (12-9) tossed seven innings, allowing one run on nine hits, while striking out five as the Chukars won their seventh straight with a 5-1 victory over Santa Fe.
On Saturday afternoon Ron Sposato (15-7) put an end to Salt Lake’s winning streak, tossing seven strong innings as the Silver Bullets pulled out a 6-4 victory.

Chandler completed the three-game sweep of Mesa on Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 victory. The Chiefs are now (88-50) and have a 3 1/2 game lead on Gilbert and are 9 1/2 games up on the Solar Sox.

Surging Salt Lake walked it off n Sunday evening in a 4-3 victory over Santa Fe. John Scott hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to move the Chukars closer to first place. The big news for the Chukars was that Derek Hills fractured his wrist in the game and is likely done for at least the rest of the regular season. Hills was hitting .285 with 23 homers and 79 RBIs for Salt Lake.

Jamie Case homered twice in the finale, including this grand slam as the Snow Sox swept the Hops.

After months of diamond dynasty and getting burned out. I’ve decided to start my franchise with my favorite team the pirates. I tried to sim to the current point. My plans are to be as realistic as trade wise. Currently I’ve brought up Cruz (mimicked injury), Henry Davis, endy Rodriguez and nick Gonzalez. Sitting at 33-44 and 9 GB. Will update weekly. Any SP trade options you guys recommend? Realistically?

The Pirates were one of the teams I thought of going with in my franchise, I think it would be a fun rebuild and PNC Park is just beautiful. Anyway, as for SP options, two names that have come up this year have been Shane Bieber and Eduardo Rodriguez (I know more about the AL Central, living in Cleveland). However, I think to keep it as real as possible, you would have to look at how your own franchise is running: who is on the trading block, other team's records (are they in a position to buy or sell), etc...

I try to run my franchise as realistically as possible, but once you finish the first season and free agency starts, it becomes more of a universe of it's own anyway. My recommendation is to do what feels right to you, it's your league now, do what makes you happy!

                      CLEVELAND GUARDIANS 2024 UPDATE:

We've reached the end of July, trade deadline came and went the Guardians looked for a mid level starter for the stretch run but couldn't come away with a deal that made sense. Instead we gave up a handful of "B" prospects to get Taylor Trammell and Bubba Thompson for some speed and left handed power off the bench.

On to August with the AL Central within reach after a very slow start to the season.

Yeah Dragster has a similar approach to a lot of us on this board when it comes to trading. It's too easy to steal good players from other teams if you really want to. Try to approach trading as the other team, and if the trade you want makes sense for them.

I was targetting ERod as a potential offseason acquisition for my A's. We're 50-55 in year one (We were at .500 a couple of weeks ago, 43-43, but couldn't seem to get over the hump) right now (Our run differential is reallllly bad though), and I figured he'd be a solid upgrade to my very young rotation.

That being said, I'm a couple of days away from the trade deadline, and while I've moved a few expiring guys for fringy prospects, the Rays offered Yonny Chirinos (ERA around 5, pitching out of the bullpen), for Seth Brown to fill their hole at 1B. Trade values lined up pretty good on BBTV, and Chirinos *should* upgrade my rotation a bit.

May jump back to ERod depending on how my offseason looks though. Lots of young pitchers coming up that I figure I'll give some playing time to down the stretch. While not being competitive is certainly different for me, the opportunity to play some young guys, and actually manage the 40 man a bit more tightly because of roster moves, has been a blast.

2023 National League Division Series Game 3
Washington Nationals vs Los Angeles Dodgers

Game Three Starters: Tony Gonsolin vs Lucas Giolito

Lucas Giolito gets the nod here to give Stephen Strasburg an extra day of rest. Strasburg will go in Game 4 if necessary.

The Nationals got off to an early lead when Gleyber Torres hit a three run home run to left in the first. The Dodgers would score in the third when Jorbit Varvas singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a ground out by Gavin Lux. Los Angeles nearly got a second run in the fourth when Cody Bellinger laced a ball to center, but Brandon Nimmo made a great throw home, allowing Keibert Ruiz to get in position and rag out Mookie Betts, who was attempting to score from second. Yorbit Vivas came through again with a two out base hit in the fifth, and came around to score on Michael Brantley’s second double of the game. Giolito would then strike out Freddie Freeman on back to back fastballs out of the zone, a rare bad at-bat for the NL batting champ.

The drama was continuously intensifying all game, as Tony Gonsolin locked in and the Nationals could not get another run in, and each inning the Dodgers inched closer and closer to tying the game. Giolito was pulled after five, and Carl Edwards worked a flawless sixth Colin Poche a scoreless seventh and Aaron Bummer worked a dramatic eighth that saw Gavin Lux get to third base with two down, but an intentional walk to Mookie Betts and a ground ball to third by Will Smith ended the threat. Trevor Rosenthal came on in the ninth, struck out Chris Taylor on three pitches, but then walked Cody Bellinger before striking out Joey Gallo in a nine pitch battle where Cody Bellinger stole second on the strikeout. Yorbit Vivas battled, but flew out to right on a 2-2 slider and the NATIONALS SWEEP THE DODGERS TO ADVANCE TO THE NLCS!!!

The Nationals run continues, and the comparisons to 2019 cannot be overlooked. This team has played hard all year, and even as the pessimists constantly mention the fact that Trea Turner was out for this series, the Nationals are missing their biggest bats in Brandon Drury and Joey Meneses. These same pessimists might also note how the Nationals offense was horrible for the first eight innings of Game Two and the last eight innings of Game Three, but the team ended up winning both and that’s what matters.

The Nationals will now wait to see whether they will play the Cardinals or Braves in the NLCS, and as good as the Dodgers were, both of these teams are much deeper and will pose a real challenge.

I've reached the Championship Series' in the 2023 season. The Nationals will be taking on the Atlanta Braves, who beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 in the NLDS. In the American League, the Cleveland Guardians will be taking on the Houston Astros. Cleveland won on a walk off in Game 5 (I wish I knew who hit it, but can't get the info), and Houston defeated Tampa Bay in Game 5 as well.

I really was not expecting any of this to happen. I was shocked to win the Wild Card game, shocked to come back against the Dodgers in Game Two of the NLDS, and shocked that I held on in Game Three after not scoring after the first inning. I'm not playing the game any different, other than managing my bullpen differently, just like the real Postseason. This Nationals team is not flashy, there isn't much power, and yet they've won every game due to the long ball and pitching. It's unreal, but man does it make this rebuild (is it even a rebuild now?) even more fun!
