Revisiting a 23 Wishlist with Odds for 24

I found an old post of mine for suggestions to The Show 23. I removed some that were addressed from the original post, but decided to revisit with odds of what might make it in 24. Love to see what you guys think as well. Again, this is for fun while we wait on any news for 24. I did remove some items from the original post that have been addressed. Please reply with any I didn't think of with your odds on the features being added.

    Improving Stadium Creator.

    1. Domes and retractable roofs need to be added. This is a no brainer and one that many thought we’d see added this year. A lot of folks enjoy creating classic stadiums. I’ve seen some cool attempts to work around for the Astrodome but we need an actual dome option. And for folks working on future stadiums would love the retractable roof options for the future stadium dreams. Figure out a way. I’d say this one is 50/50. Should already have been added. The fact it hasn’t makes me not hopeful. I should even go 40/60 but with as much as this is asked for I’m hoping.

    2. Moving the bullpens. Bullpens being locked in to on the field was fine last year. But we need to be able to set everything up for our parks. Most ballparks, even in the minors, have moved the bullpens. Give us that option in the creation. This one I put at 40/60. I hope they prove me wrong but they’ve not shown any signs of wanting to bend here.

    3. Wall ads. Outfield wall needs to allow us to add ads on the wall. This is seen in ball parks all around. It should be in the game and seems like a simple fix. Even though this would be an easy one for them I don’t see it as high priority so 30/70 is my odds. Again, easy one to do but just guessing they won’t.

    4. Add Yellow lines on the walls for ground rules. I’ve seen a lot of folks ask for this. We should be able to have the yellow line on the walls and maybe have a wall that the line goes lower than the wall. Give us that freedom to create. 30/70. See above.

    5. Distance markers on the wall, name of stadium on wall, etc. These things are in real ball parks. Allow us that freedom so we can create more of what we want! 30/70. Again, go back to #3 for my reason.

    6. More save slots. If I want to have all the minor league stadiums, give me the slots to have them all and a few for custom and classic. I would like it expanded to 75. (I realize this is a tall order and might not be possible yet so that’s why it is low on the list. And if one of my requests below gets honored this might not even be needed. 5/95. Highly unlikely this will happen. I’d love it, but just don’t seem the expanding it.

    7. Team branding in stadium. I want to place my team's logo if I'm creating their stadium. And this needs to be for existing team too if I want to build a new Oakland A's stadium or move them to Vegas as they appear to be doing, I want to put their logo on the field, on scoreboards. I want it to feel like the home of the A's. 70/30. This one is so easy I’m putting the odds high. But I won’t be shocked it if doesn’t happen yet again.

    8. Stadium ad creator: Taking this awesome suggestion from further in the thread and adding it to the list. It would be great to be able to create our own custom ads. Even more awesome would be to share them in the vault. 10/90. While this one is easy and should be done very easily, I haven’t seen much of a call for it so I rank it really low.

    9. More flags: Why should we only have the American flag and the Pride flag? Why not every state flag? (Or at least every state flag already in another stadium) The POW flag we see in other stadiums. Armed Forces flags (Army, Navy, Air Force, etc.) Championship flags? Maybe even a flag creator if we want to design our own. Bottom line is we need more options than two. 80/20. I only give this one this high of odds because most the other flags are already in the game. But they’ve been there from the start and haven’t been added so I won’t be shocked when it doesn’t happen.

    Franchise Mode improvements

    1. Finally add actual single A teams. Enough of the “single A slot” to dump a few guys. I want a full single A roster and teams. Gives us more spots and more prospects and for those that enjoy playing as the minor league teams, more teams! 30/70. They’ve resisted for this long, why would they change now?

    2. League expansion options. This is a no brainer and long overdue. With the team editor we can even set up our dream expansion city without having to choose from a preset list. And we can have our dream stadium for the team expansion. And MLB is actually talking about expanding. So put in the game. Follow the model that NBA 2K has. It is that simple. 50/50. I don’t bet on this one but with some expansion talk, who knows?

    3. Team re-locator. If I am controlling a team and in year two, I want to move the team, give us that option. Follow the model from other games that makes it hard for a team with a good market to move. But allow me to move the Rays from Tampa to Montreal. Let me get the As in Vegas sooner if I want. Team editor is cute but I want to have the full experience like in other sports titles. And with stadium assignments I can have them move into my newly created stadium. (move bullpens where I want them, damnit! LOL) 35/65. This really should be higher but they’ve seemed to think editing teams is enough. I don’t see them going full relocation this year. But maybe the A’s move will finally make them give us this feature.

    4. More than one broadcast team. We need an A team for the big national games. We need a regional team for the regional games. And I think we need a minor league team (or single broadcaster that is blow the standard of the others.) I want to it to feel different when I’m playing a regional game and a national one. The overlays aren’t enough. I want it to feel different when I’m playing a minor league game and an MLB one. NBA 2K has more than one team so we know this is doable. 45/55. It is said Madden is going to multiple broadcast teams. Could The Show be first?

    5. Custom Draft classes. Why this isn’t already in the game is beyond me. This will be asked for until it is actually added. Let us create and share our draft classes. And if we can create a custom draft class, allow us to create custom international free agents too. 25/75. Again, an easy one they just haven’t seemed to care about. And due to the changes they made to the draft just last year I don’t believe they are in any rush to give editors control.

    6. Rainouts and rescheduled games, including double headers. I have seen some folks try and say this isn’t possible. It is. Just make the rainout games predetermined or something. And allow us to have an expanded roster for the double headers. This is something that would be fun to plan around. 1/99. The devs have crapped on this idea for years. I don’t think they want to mess with this idea.

    7. International free agent signing period. Give us a few “stars” from other countries we can try to sign. They for the most part, they would be MLB ready. 50/50. Due to the offseason featuring a few international stars from Japan, maybe this is the year? I can’t rank it higher than 50/50 because they once again haven’t shown much interest in getting this one done.

    8. New rules voted on at the end of the season. NBA 2K does a great job have this in their franchise. If I want to end the DH across both leagues, add the pitch clock, end the Manfred runner or add it. Give us an owner’s vote. (of course, we can override the vote if we don’t like it.) This would be a cool addition. 20/80. This would be great but I don’t see them adding it. Still has better odds than rainouts with rescheduled double headers.

    9. Multiple team trades. Another feature long overdue for Franchise mode. Allow me to get other teams involved if needed for trades. 50/50. Should already be there but their lack of focus on Franchise won’t let me improve the odds.

    10. Rehab assignments. We need them in the game finally. I don't need to use up a minor league option on a player coming back from injury. 40/60. Should be higher. But I don’t see that happening so I ranked it lower.

    11. Improved Bullpen logic. I've added this one after I've seen it suggested. I completely agree with the need to finally get this one improved. 75/25. They made some tweaks to it so I think they’ll keep trying to improve the logic. Will it be enough to keep us happy? Most likely not but the tweaks will be made.

    Game Features in General

    1. Bring back Sounds of the Show. Figure out a way. This adds so much to the game and longtime fans want it back. It is a feature we miss dearly and want to see back. 0/100. Feature is dead. I hate it but I don’t ever see it coming back.

    2. Bring back year to year saves! This should have never left and should have return this year if the reason was new consoles. Now that Switch has been added it needs to return. This helps the roster builders. It helps the folks that invest a lot into their Franchise to keep them going. And you can add year to year created stadium saves as well now. Bring this back! 0/100. We’re already hearing it isn’t coming back. I’d love it if they at least made the roster vault carry over like they do for logos. At this point that’s the best you can hope for.

    3. More team specific items. The W flag for the Cubs. The drummer in Cleveland. The Yankee Roll Call (it was in the game at one time.) Those are little things that would add to realism. There are others. Get them added to the game. 50/50. After adding exterior shots last year, maybe they make these moves this year.

    4. More song licenses. If we can’t get SOTS back, get the rights to songs like Sweet Caroline and add it in to Fenway, Thank God I’m a Country Boy in Baltimore, Go Cubs Go, Detroit Rock City, Thunderstruck, Cheap Seats are all songs that if we can’t add our self we need in the game. (It would be easier to let us add this so SOTS please!) 10/90. Just don’t think they’ll spend to get the rights.

    5. Real Minor League stadiums. You could and should give us the actual minor league stadiums. If you don’t have time to get them all, at least start and give us some of the bigger ones. This would also mean we’d have more created slots for our created stadiums. COLOR="Red"]5/95. Stadium creator has made this one very unlikely. And it was unlikely before because they love their fictional stadiums.[/COLOR]

    6. More throwback uniforms. Folks love throwbacks and we need more. Get rid of the stupid batting practice uniforms. No one likes them or uses them. Open up more slots by removing the batting ones. 100 percent. They always add some. Only questions is how many.

    7. Make sure you get all the alternate uniforms. All too often, folks complain that an alternate for their favorite team is missing. Make sure this doesn’t happen again. 95/5. This will most likely happen since Nike has cut back the number of uniforms they’ll make.

    8. Weather feature such as deteriorating field. I want to see puddles on the the field. I want it to have an effect play to the the point we are questioning why it hasn't been stopped. Wind that effects where fly balls might drop. Little things that could add to the gameplay. While we're at it, add snow for early season games up North. 1/99. We’re next gen so this should be something they could do. But I don’t see them putting in the work for this.

    9. Over haul the jerseys. The jerseys need to be overhauled. We need better cloth physics. We finally need actually pullover jerseys. It is time to take the jersey to next gen level. 30/70. This being Next gen, it should happen by now. But I don’t seem them doing it.

Re: Revisiting a 23 Wishlist with Odds for 24

I think one thing we sort of forget. This is a business that wants to sell their game every year. They will never give us everything we want. Dangle a carrot. Couple that with not knowing just how difficult it might be with the coding, etc. Personally I could do without all these extra modes, MTO, Negro Leagues, home run derby, etc., etc., but these are business decisions and I understand that.

    Certainly a nice list.

I feel like bullpens should and would be added this year, it doesn't seem like a difficult add, and would be a nice option for someone who is on the fence for buying the new game. Same with team branding in the created stadiums, and more created uniform options.

Expansion i think would really mess up the team schedules every year in franchise. Same with rainouts and re-scheduled games. I doubt those would be coming any time soon. Relocation might be a more logical add.

I'm REALLY hoping for not only better CPU bullpen logic, but overall better CPU roster management. Its a way too common occurrence that the CPU will employ 8 starters on their MLB roster in year 2, 3 of franchise, only because their out of minor league options. While some very good players will be sitting in their minor leagues because they have options left. I know that 30 team control makes this problem fixable manually. I just hope that's not the reason that they won't fix it.

      Great overall list !

I get what you're saying about expansion but other sports games have figured it out so they could too. And for the weather, you just have the rain out games predetermined. Might be new to us when it happens but the way to keep it from breaking anything is to already have it set.

Thank you for the feedback though! This is way I enjoy playing with these types of posts.

In regards to expansion, while other games have figured it out, none of those have the same intricacies that baseball does. Besides the unique scheduling that baseball does, multiple series (2,3,4 games) that occur throughout the season versus one game matchups, you also have to take into account the fact that once you expand the major league teams, you then have to account for the AAA and AA affiliates for that major league team and how they will fit into an expansion of their respective minor league level.

I'm not saying that it can't be done, or won't be done, but I don't think its entirely fair to assume that MLB should be able to easily do it since other games have figured it out.

I was thinking the same thing, like it could be done. But MLB is not like other leagues when it comes to scheduling. The overhaul that would have to occur seems like it would be huge when it comes to trying to incorporate expansion.

It has been done in a MLB game. All Star Baseball had it at one time. Now they didn't have the minors I don't think, but there could be a way. I remember when we were told that we'll never see a create a stadium feature in baseball because "baseball stadium present a larger challenge" and yet now we have the best one out there.

Not saying it is easy but if they wanted to figure it out, they could.

Yes All Star Baseball had it and back then scheduling was different than it is nowadays. And as you mentioned ASB didn't have minor league affiliates, so again we're not comparing apples to apples.

Comments like "if they wanted to figure it out, they could" makes it seem as though they should be able to put it together in a snap. How do we know they aren't working on it, but don't share that information because they can't promise a delivery date, or even a guarantee it will happen? Its what they did with stadium creator. They were working on it while not sharing anything about it until they were ready to unveil it.

And one last thing to consider, SDS doesn't have 100% free reign or final say in what goes into the game. They have to get approval from the MLB. Its why you won't see charging the mound, bench clearing brawls, suspensions, etc...

Not saying that MLB is opposed to expansion within the game, but its something else to consider, along with the technical hurdles of creating such a feature, as opposed to thought that they could do if they wanted, they just don't want to.

I’m obviously not a game developer, so I don’t know what can and can’t be done. But expansion seems like it would be a huge undertaking. I would personally rather them put their resources into other areas of the game, even if it could be done. There’s always the possibility that it messes scheduling up somewhere down the line to the point that it can’t be fixed during that years game. I’m sure if it’s something that can be done, and it’s something that would be worth the time and effort we will have it eventually.

Can we at least get the option to change the season length again? It's also been in NBA for years and EA even added it in NHL 23, yet it went missing in the show after 17. It would make the show a day one purchase for me again.

A lot of what the OG poster said is great and needed.

What is more realistic is them saying.

We added a lot more animations.

Another round of the negro league storylines

And some very small addition to franchise mode

The truth is they do not care about franchise mode as much as the other modes. Now the fans who claim they can do not wrong will say this is not true. But it is 1000% true. More people play diamond dynasty, they make more money off diamond dynasty, and diamond dynasty is what some of the biggest streamers who play the game are playing.

You will not see them have to push franchise to the limit or to come close to matching NBA2K franchise level until another game forces them to do so. Best thing we could hope for is that EA revives MVP and forces them to do better.

None of this stops me from buying the product which i guess makes me part of the problem. No need to urgently change things if sales do not drop.

As someone who was lucky enough to be part of a discussion group that got to speak directly with the source(developers), I can tell you that the bolded part is 1000% not true.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                          1. Newly released games go thru growing pains. The Show is an example of that. We can complain about franchise mode (knowing that DD gets a ton more attention). But I don’t believe EA would put out a game in the first year that would compare to this one. If it was centered only around franchise mode then maybe some would move to the game and STILL want everything that they couldn’t code into the launch of the game. There are so many moving parts.

                          2. Gamers who are unhappy with franchise (and I only play franchise) should step up and not buy the game this release. Will these non-purchases affect the bottom line? Will it force them to move away from the money maker? They sprung the stadium creator on us surprisingly. And they did a pretty good job with it, above expectations. We had zero idea they were even working on it. We complained for years and…..bingo….they listened.

I’m chomping at the bits for release day. Christmas in march.

We better hope they don’t roll franchise into MTO, then what? Yikes.

                          Peace.

For sure it would take EA a few cycles to get it up to snuff for sure

As for the last part that is my worst nightmare. If they did that it would be the first time I am forced to stay with an older version. Let's hope that never happens.

That is good to know and I would be thrilled to see Franchise get a continued boost this season.
